The 4th concept detector consists of four detector subsystems, a small-pixel vertex detector, a high-resolution TPC, a new multiple-readout fiber calorimeter and a new dual-solenoid iron-free muon system. We discuss the design of a comprehensive facility that measures and identifies all partons of the standard model, including hadronic Wjj and Zjj decays, with high precision and high efficiency. Rare muon processes such as muonium to antimuonium conversion, μ→eγ and μ→3e provide sensitive tests of new physics beyond the standard model. Specifically the left-right symmetric models of weak interaction with a low scale for the right-handedW R boson (in the TeV range) provide a whole range of rare muon processes which are experimentally accessible. In this talk, I discuss the implications of the left-right symmetric models for rare muon processes and also briefly touch on the SUSY models with R-parity violation and their implications for these processes.  相似文献

The experimental status of generation number violating muon and kaon decays is reviewed. We concentrate on three experiments with a large PSI contribution, neutrinoless muon-electron conversion, muonium-antimuonium conversion and the decayK +π +. The SINDRUM II experiment at PSI searches for the coherent conversion of a muon into an electron in titanium. The design and construction of the SINDRUM II detector and the results of the first data-taking period in 89 are presented. In total 3.2 million events have been analyzed and no candidate for the processμ Tie + Ti has been found. Using two independent determinations of the total number of muon stops an upper limit ofB μe <4.4×10−12 (90% C.L.) is obtained. The plans to lower the sensitivity by two orders of magnitude are discussed. A muonium-antimuonium conversion experiment is being set up at PSI using the refurbished SINDRUM I detector. The goal of the experiment is to improve the sensitivity for the effective coupling constant by a factor of ∼100. Finally a new proposal E865 has been accepted at BNL to improve the sensitivity for the branching ratio of the decayK +π + by a factor 70 to 3×10−12. Even tiny lepton flavor violation (LFV) due to some New Physics is able to alter the conditions inside a collapsing supernova core and probably to facilitate the explosion. LFV emerges naturally in a see-saw type-II model of neutrino mass generation. Experimentally, the LFV beyond the Standard Model is constrained by rare lepton decay searches. In particular, strong bounds are imposed on the μ → eee branching ratio and on the μ-e conversion in muonic gold. Currently, the μ→eγ is under investigation in the MEG experiment that aims at a dramatic increase in sensitivity in the next three years. We seek a see-saw type-II LFV pattern that fits all the experimental constraints, leads to Br(μ →eγ) ≳ Br(μμ →eee), and ensures a rate of LFV processes in supernova high enough to modify the supernova physics. These requirements are sufficient to eliminate almost all freedom in the model. In particular, they lead to the prediction 0.4 × 10−12 ≲ Br(μ → eγ) ≲ 6 × 10−12, which will be testable by MEG in the nearest future. The considered scenario also constrains the neutrino mass-mixing pattern and provides lower and upper bounds on τ-lepton LFV decays. We also briefly discuss a model with a single bilepton in which the μ → eee decay is absent at the tree level.  相似文献

The corrected cross section of the e + e → π+π process measured in the spherical neutral detector experiment at the VEPP-2M e + e collider is presented. Monte-Carlo generator with photon jets radiation in collinear regions for the process e + e γγ is described in detail. Radiative corrections in the first order of α are treated exactly. Large leading logarithmic corrections coming from collinear regions are taken into account in all orders of α by applying the Structure Function approach. Theoretical precision of the cross section with radiative corrections is estimated to be 0.2%. This process is considered as an additional tool to measure luminosity in forthcoming experiments with the CMD-3 detector at the e + e collider VEPP-2000.  相似文献

A model based on theSU(2)L×SU(2)R×U(1)B−L gauge group is used to study the lepton recharging processe -μ+e +μ-. It should be possible to observe this process on a muon collider in the fixed-electron-target regime or the electron-beam regime. A search for the lepton flavour violating processes ep→μX and ep→τX is performed with the H1 experiment at HERA. Final states with a muon or tau and a hadronic jet are searched for in a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 66.5 pb-1 for e+p collisions and 13.7 pb-1 for e-p collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 319 GeV. No evidence for lepton flavour violation is found. Limits are derived on the mass and the couplings of leptoquarks inducing lepton flavour violation in an extension of the Buchmüller–Rückl–Wyler effective model. Leptoquarks produced in ep collisions with a coupling strength of λ=0.3 and decaying with the same coupling strength to a muon–quark pair or a tau–quark pair are excluded at 95% confidence level up to masses of 459 GeV and 379 GeV, respectively.  相似文献

We study the decay K +π + π 0 e + e , currently under analysis by the NA62 Collaboration at CERN. In particular, we provide a detailed analysis of the Dalitz plot for the long-distance, γ -mediated, contributions (Bremsstrahlung, direct emission and its interference). We also examine a set of asymmetries to isolate genuine short-distance effects. While we show that charge asymmetries are not required to test short distances, they provide the best environment for its detection. This constitutes by itself a strong motivation for NA62 to study K decays in the future. We therefore provide a detailed study of different charge asymmetries and the corresponding estimated signals. Whenever possible, we make contact with the related processes K +π + π 0 γ and K L π + π e + e and discuss the advantages of K +π + π 0 e + e over them.  相似文献

The influence of resonances on the muon transfer processes from muonic hydrogen to oxygen and neon (pμ)1s + O8+p + (μO)nl7+ and (pμ)1s + Ne10+p + (μNe)nl9+ is considered using the Smith lifetime matrix formalism. It is shown that the existence of a long lived resonance in the case of Ne induces a stronger dependence on collision energy of the muon transfer cross-section for this system. Using the data of about 33 pb-1 collected at and around 3.773 GeV with the BES-II detector at the BEPC collider, we have studied the exclusive semileptonic decays D+→K-π+e+νe, D0→K̄0π-e+νe, D+→K̄*0e+νe and D0→K*-e+νe. The absolute branching fractions for the decays are measured to be BF(D+→K-π+e+νe)=(3.50±0.75±0.27)%, BF(D0→K̄0π-e+νe)=(2.61±1.04±0.28)%, BF(D+→K̄*0e+νe)=(5.06±1.21±0.40)% and BF(D0→K*-e+νe)=(2.87±1.48±0.39)%. The ratio of the vector to pseudoscalar semileptonic decay rates Γ(D+→K̄*0e+νe)/Γ(D+→K̄0e+νe) is determined to be 0.57±0.17±0.02.  相似文献

We study in detail the influence of the nuclear form factor both on the Born cross section and on the Coulomb corrections to the photo-production of muon pairs off heavy nuclei (γ Zμ + μ Z) and in heavy-ion collisions (ZZZZ μ + μ ). Our findings indicate a number of issues which have not been sufficiently described as yet in the literature: (i) the use of a realistic form factor, based on the Fermi charge distribution for the nucleus, is absolutely indispensable for reliable theoretical predictions; (ii) we checked quantitatively that the equivalent photon approximation has a very good accuracy for the discussed processes; and (iii) we present a leading logarithmic calculation of the Coulomb corrections which correspond to multi-photon exchange of the produced μ ± with the nuclei. These corrections are found to be small (on the percent level). Our result justifies using the Born approximation for numerical simulations of the discussed process at the RHIC and LHC colliders. Finally, we calculate the total cross section for muon pair production at RHIC and LHC.  相似文献

We study possible phenomenological consequences of the recently proposed new approach to the Weinberg-Salam model. The electroweak theory is considered as a gravity and the Higgs particle is interpreted in it as a dilaton, without the usual potential of interaction in the Higgs sector. We have taken as a test the process of photon pair production, e + + e Z + γ + γ. In the framework of new formulation this reaction is mediated in the lowest order by the dilaton. The production of electron-positron pairs by a photon propagating in a thermal bath in both zero and strong (B ≫ 4.41 × 1013 G) magnetic fields has been considered. The mean free path has been calculated for the high-energy photon propagating through a thermodynamically equilibrium photon gas along the magnetic field lines so that the γ → e e + decay is kinematically forbidden. It has been shown that the strong magnetic field suppresses the probability of the γγ′ → e e + process. The analyzed process can be useful for analysis of possible mechanisms of the generation of the e e + plasma in the regions of the polar caps of magnetars.  相似文献

Using the technique of helicity amplitudes, the electromagnetic process e + e → μ+μ is theoretically investigated in the one-photon approximation. The structure of the triplet states of the final (μ+μ) system is analyzed. It is shown that in the case of unpolarized electron and positron the final muons are also unpolarized, but their spins are strongly correlated. Explicit expressions for the components of the correlation tensor of the final (μ+μ) system are derived. The formula for the angular correlation at the decays of final muons μ+ and μ, produced in the process e + e → μ+μ, is obtained. It is demonstrated that spin correlations of muons in the process of electron-positron pair annihilation have the purely quantum character, since one of the incoherence inequalities for the correlation tensor components is always violated. The additional contribution of the weak interaction of lepton neutral currents through the virtual Z 0 boson is considered; it is established that, taking into account the weak interaction, the qualitative character of the muon spin correlations does not change.  相似文献

Using a data sample of integrated luminosity of about 33 pb-1 collected around 3.773 GeV with the BESII detector at the BEPC collider, the semileptonic decays D+→φe+νe, D+→φμ+νμ and the hadronic decay D+→φπ+ are studied. The upper limits of the branching fractions are set to be BF(D+→φe+νe)<2.01% and BF(D+→φμ+νμ)<2.04% at the 90% confidence level. The ratio of the branching fractions for D+→φπ+ relative to D+→K-π+π+ is measured to be 0.057±0.011±0.003. In addition, the branching fraction for D+→φπ+ is obtained to be (5.2±1.0±0.4)×10-3.  相似文献

In the frame of the Born approximation it was theoretically investigated nonresonant muon pair production in e + e collision in the field of elliptically polarized electromagnetic wave in the general relativistic case. It was analyzed in detail the reaction kinematics. It was derived the expressions for the amplitude and the cross section of the nonresonant muon pair production in e + e annihilation in the moderately strong field. It was demonstrated that the partial cross-section is factorized as a product of the cross section of the muon pair production from e + e pair in the absence of the external field and the probability of emission and absorption of photons from the wave.
