Let p be an odd prime. Let be the fibre space induced from an H-map where K is a generalized Eilenberg MacLane space and X is a simply connected H-space. Such spaces occur frequently in Postnikov towers and connective covers. In this paper, we compute the mod p cohomology of as a ring. The ring depends on the structure of imf* and the structure of subkerf* as modules over the Steenrod algebra.  相似文献

Let be a fibration, the holonomy action of this fibration and the connecting map. It is shown that if the fibre F admits an H-structure ν such that ρ?ν○(1×∂) (principal fibrations of all kinds satisfy such a condition), then i is a monomorphism if and only if it is weak monomorphism, the latter is equivalent to that Ωp has a homotopy right inverse Γ. If in addition Γ is an H-map, then ΩE has the same H-type as ΩB×ΩF.  相似文献

We prove a collapse theorem for the Eilenberg–Moore spectral sequence and as an application we show that under certain conditions the cohomology of a homogeneous space of a connected finite loop space with a maximal rank torsion free subgroup is concentrated in even degrees and torsionfree, generalizing classical theorems for compact Lie groups of Borel and Bott.  相似文献

Let X be a homotopy associative mod p H-space for p an odd prime. The homology H*(X;Fp) is an associative ring, but not necessarily commutative. We study conditions when for elements of H*(X;Fp). Under certain conditions imply for l=p−2 or p−1. These methods can be used to prove results about homology commutators that were previously obtained using the adjoint action [H. Hamanaka, S. Hara, A. Kono, Adjoint action of Lie groups on the loop spaces and cohomology of exceptional Lie groups, Transform. Group Theory (1996) 44-50, Korea Adv. Inst. Sci. Tech.; A. Kono, K. Kozima, The adjoint action of a Lie group on the space of loops, J. Math. Soc. Japan 45 (3) (1993) 495-509; A. Kono, J. Lin, O. Nishimura, Characterization of the mod 3 cohomology of E7, Proc. Amer. Math. Soc. 131 (10) (2003) 3289-3295]. We also generalize results of Kane [R. Kane, Torsion in homotopy associative H-spaces, Illinois J. Math. 20 (1976) 476-485] to nonfinite mod p homotopy associative H-spaces.  相似文献

We define for every so-called admissible relation r in the Steenrod algebra A and for every oriented spherical fibration ξ over a CW-space an exotic characteristic class (mod 2) ε(r)(ξ), which is primitive and vanishes for sphere bundles. The set of exotic classes associated with the universal spherical fibration and the admissible Adem relations are compared with the algebra generators of H1(BSG;Z2) due to Milgram. Moreover, their behaviour under the action of A is computed. Finally, we give a secondary Wu formula for exotic classes of special Poincaré duality spaces.  相似文献

We show that three different kinds of cohomologies - Baues-Wirsching cohomology, the (S,O)-cohomology of Dwyer and Kan, and the André-Quillen cohomology of aΠ-algebra  - are isomorphic, under certain assumptions. This is then used to identify the cohomological obstructions in three general approaches to realizability problems: the track category version of Baues and Wirsching, the diagram rectifications of Dwyer, Kan, and Smith, and the Π-algebra realization of Dwyer, Kan, and Stover. Our main tool in this identification is the notion of a mapping algebra: a simplicially enriched version of an algebra over a theory.  相似文献

Bredon has constructed a 2-dimensional compact cohomology manifold which is not homologically locally connected, with respect to the singular homology. In the present paper we construct infinitely many such examples (which are in addition metrizable spaces) in all remaining dimensions n?3.  相似文献

Let k be a field of characteristic p>0. Call a finite group G a poco group over k if any finitely generated cohomological Mackey functor for G over k has polynomial growth. The main result of this paper is that G is a poco group over k if and only if the Sylow p-subgroups of G are cyclic, when p>2, or have sectional rank at most 2, when p=2.A major step in the proof is the case where G is an elementary abelian p-group. In particular, when p=2, all the extension groups between simple functors can be determined completely, using a presentation of the graded algebra of self extensions of the simple functor , by explicit generators and relations.  相似文献

We define strong cofibrations and fibrations in suitably enriched categories using the relative homotopy extension resp. lifting property. We prove a general pairing result, which for topological spaces specializes to the well-known pushout-product theorem for cofibrations. Strong cofibrations and fibrations give rise to cofibration and fibration categories in the sense of homotopical algebra. We discuss various examples; in particular, we deduce that the category of chain complexes with chain equivalences and the category of categories with equivalences are symmetric monoidal proper closed model categories. We study the mod 2 homology of the double and triple loop spaces of homogeneous spaces associated with exceptional Lie groups. The main computational tools are the Serre spectral sequence for fibrations Ωn+1GΩn+1(G/H)→ΩnH for n=1,2, and the Eilenberg-Moore spectral sequence associated with related fiber squares, which both converge to the same destination space H(Ωn(G/H);F2). We also develop the generalized Bockstein lemma to determine the higher Bockstein actions.  相似文献

Let M denote an orientable (n+2)-manifold (n?1) and G an upper semicontinuous decomposition of M into compacta having the shape of the n-sphere. In this context it is shown that the decomposition space is a 2-manifold. Moreover, it is established that the decomposition map is an approximate fibration for n>1, while for n=1 the map is an approximate fibration over the complement of a locally finite set.  相似文献

With an eye towards index theoretic applications we describe a Schubert like stratification on the Grassmannian of hermitian lagrangian spaces in CnCn. This is a natural compactification of the space of hermitian n×n matrices. The closures of the strata define integral cycles, and we investigate their intersection theoretic properties. We achieve this by blending Morse theoretic ideas, with techniques from o-minimal (or tame) geometry and geometric integration theory.  相似文献

We use the duality between compactly supported cohomology of the associative graph complex and the cohomology of the mapping class group to show that the duals of the Kontsevich cycles [Wλ] correspond to polynomials in the Miller-Morita-Mumford classes. We also compute the coefficients of the first two terms of this polynomial. This extends the results of (Combinatorial Miller-Morita-Mumford classes and Witten cycles, math.GT/0207042, 2002), giving a more detailed answer to a question of Kontsevich (Commun. Math. Phys. 147(1) (1992) 1) and verifying more of the conjectured formulas of Arbarello and Cornalba (J. Algebraic Geom. 5 (1996) 705).  相似文献

We introduce equivariant twisted cohomology of a simplicial set equipped with simplicial action of a discrete group and prove that for suitable twisting function induced from a given equivariant local coefficients, the simplicial version of Bredon-Illman cohomology with local coefficients is isomorphic to equivariant twisted cohomology. The main aim of this paper is to prove a classification theorem for equivariant simplicial cohomology with local coefficients.  相似文献

Let X be a 3 local, finite, simply connected H-space with associative homology ring . Some known examples are the Lie group , Harper's H-space X(3) and any odd dimensional sphere . We prove the cohomology algebra is isomorphic to the cohomology algebra of a finite product of and odd dimensional spheres. To a topological group G, we assign a naive G-spectrum , called the dualizing spectrum of G. When the classifying space BG is finitely dominated, we show that detects Poincaré duality in the sense that BG is a Poincaré duality space if and only if is a homotopy finite spectrum. Secondly, we show that the dualizing spectrum behaves multiplicatively on certain topological group extensions. In proving these results we introduce a new tool: a norm map which is defined for any G and for any naive G-spectrum E. Applications of the dualizing spectrum come in two flavors: (i) applications in the theory of Poincaré duality spaces, and (ii) applications in the theory of group cohomology. On the Poincaré duality space side, we derive a homotopy theoretic solution to a problem posed by Wall which says that in a fibration sequence of fini the total space satisfies Poincaré duality if and only if the base and fiber do. The dualizing spectrum can also be used to give an entirely homotopy theoretic construction of the Spivak fibration of a finitely dominated Poincaré duality space. We also include a new proof of Browder's theorem that every finite H-space satisfies Poincaré duality. In connection with group cohomology, we show how to define a variant of Farrell-Tate cohomology for any topological or discrete group G, with coefficients in any naive equivariant cohomology theory E. When E is connective, and when G admits a subgroup H of finite index such that BH is finitely dominated, we show that this cohomology coincides with the ordinary cohomology of G with coefficients in E in degrees greater than the cohomological dimension of H. In an appendix, we identify the homotopy type of for certain kinds of groups. The class includes all compact Lie groups, torsion free arithmetic groups and Bieri-Eckmann duality groups. We examine the dual of the so-called “hit problem”, the latter being the problem of determining a minimal generating set for the cohomology of products of infinite projective spaces as a module over the Steenrod Algebra A at the prime 2. The dual problem is to determine the set of A-annihilated elements in homology. The set of A-annihilateds has been shown by David Anick to be a free associative algebra. In this note we prove that, for each k≥0, the set of kpartiallyA-annihilateds, the set of elements that are annihilated by Sqi for each i≤2k, itself forms a free associative algebra.  相似文献
