It is shown that some familiar properties of epimorphisms in the category of frames carry over to the categories of uniform and complete uniform frames. This is achieved by suitably enriching certain frame homomorphisms to uniform frame homomorphisms.  相似文献

A concrete category K is a CCT (cartesian closed topological) extension of the category Unif of uniform spaces if 1. K is cartesian closed, 2. Unif is a full, finitely productive subcategory of K and the forgetful functor of K extends that of Unif and 3. K has initial structures. We describe the smallest CCT extension of Unif which is called the CCT hull by H. Herrlich and L.D. Nel. The objects of the CCT hull are bornological uniform spaces, i.e. uniform spaces endowed with a collection of “bounded” sets related naturally to the uniformity; the morphisms are the uniformly continuous maps which preserve the bounded sets.  相似文献

Let X be a set. A collection Uof subsets of X has subinfinite rank if whenever V ? U, ∩V≠ø, and V is infinite, then there are two distinct elements of V, one of which is a subset of the other. Theorem. AT1space with a base of subinfinite rank is hereditarily metacompact.  相似文献

We study conditions under which the Hausdorff quasi-uniformity UH of a quasi-uniform space (X,U) on the set P0(X) of the nonempty subsets of X is bicomplete.Indeed we present an explicit method to construct the bicompletion of the T0-quotient of the Hausdorff quasi-uniformity of a quasi-uniform space. It is used to find a characterization of those quasi-uniform T0-spaces (X,U) for which the Hausdorff quasi-uniformity of their bicompletion on is bicomplete.  相似文献

Roe [J. Roe, Lectures on Coarse Geometry, University Lecture Series, vol. 31, Amer. Math. Soc., Providence, RI, 2003] introduced coarse structures for arbitrary sets X by considering subsets of X×X. In this paper we introduce large scale structures on X via the notion of uniformly bounded families and we show their equivalence to coarse structures on X. That way all basic concepts of large scale geometry (asymptotic dimension, slowly oscillating functions, Higson compactification) have natural definitions and basic results from metric geometry carry over to coarse geometry.  相似文献

Abstract

It is shown that the forgetful functor from the category of contiguity spaces to the category of generalized proximity spaces is topological, and that the right adjoint right inverse of this functor extends the inverse of the forgetful functor from the category of totally bounded uniform spaces to the category of proximity spaces.  相似文献

We are going to investigate simultaneous extensions of various topological structures (i.e. traces on several subsets at the same time are prescribed), also with separation axioms T0, T1, symmetry (in the sense of Part I, § 3), Riesz property, Lodato property. The following questions will be considered: (i) Under what conditions is there an extension? (ii) How can the finest extension be described? (iii) Is there a coarsest extension? (iv) Can we say more about extensions of two structures than in the general case? (v) Assume that certain subfamilies (e.g. the finite ones) can be extended; does the whole family have an extension, too? The general categorial results from Part I will be applied whenever possible (even they are not really needed).  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to study which quasi-metrizable spaces are monotonically normal. In particular, we provide a sufficient condition for a quasi-metrizable space to be monotonically normal. This enables us to prove the monotone normality of a certain amount of interesting examples of quasi-metric spaces; for instance, we show that the continuous poset of formal balls of a metric space, endowed with the Scott topology, is a monotonically normal quasi-metrizable space.  相似文献

Given two compatible metrics on a metrizable space X. It is well known that they give rise to the same Hausdorff hypertopologies and upper Hausdorff hypertopologies, on the collection of all closed subsets of X, if and only if they are uniformly equivalent. This is no longer true for the lower Hausdorff hypertopology; indeed a weaker condition is needed, and this condition has been found by Costantini and Vitolo.  相似文献

Let T be the class of Banach spaces E for which every weakly continuous mapping from an α-favorable space to E is norm continuous at the points of a dense subset. We show that:
T contains all weakly Lindelöf Banach spaces;
lT, which brings clarity to a concern expressed by Haydon ([R. Haydon, Baire trees, bad norms and the Namioka property, Mathematika 42 (1995) 30-42], pp. 30-31) about the need of additional set-theoretical assumptions for this conclusion. Also, (l/c0)∉T.
T is stable under weak homeomorphisms;
ET iff every quasi-continuous mapping from a complete metric space to (E,weak) is densely norm continuous;
ET iff every quasi-continuous mapping from a complete metric space to (E,weak) is weakly continuous at some point.

Let G be a Hausdorff topological group. It is shown that there is a class C of subspaces of G, containing all (but not only) precompact subsets of G, for which the following result holds:Suppose that for every real-valued discontinuous function on G there is a set AC such that the restriction mapping f|A has no continuous extension to G; then the following are equivalent:
(i)
the left and right uniform structures of G are equivalent,
(ii)
every left uniformly continuous bounded real-valued function on G is right uniformly continuous,
(iii)
for every countable set AG and every neighborhood V of the unit e of G, there is a neighborhood U of e in G such that AUVA.
As a consequence, it is proved that items (i), (ii) and (iii) are equivalent for every inframetrizable group. These results generalize earlier ones established by Itzkowitz, Rothman, Strassberg and Wu, by Milnes and by Pestov for locally compact groups, by Protasov for almost metrizable groups, and by Troallic for groups that are quasi-k-spaces.  相似文献

It is shown that a regular space is collectionwise normal and countably paracompact if every open cover has an open, order cushioned refinement. A sufficient condition for paracompactness, in terms of certain order locally finite covers, is given, and is applied to the problem of the paracompactness of product spaces.  相似文献

This paper develops the basic theory of quotients of uniform spaces via sufficiently nice group actions. We generalize and unify two fundamental constructions: quotients of topological groups via closed normal subgroups and quotients of metric spaces via actions by isometries. Basic results about inverse limits of topological groups are extended to inverse limits of group actions on uniform spaces, and notions of prodiscrete action and generalized covering map are introduced.  相似文献
