We obtain from the consistency of the existence of a measurable cardinal the consistency of “small” upper bounds on the cardinality of a large class of Lindelöf spaces whose singletons are Gδ sets.  相似文献

For a non-compact metrizable space X, let E(X) be the set of all one-point metrizable extensions of X, and when X is locally compact, let EK(X) denote the set of all locally compact elements of E(X) and be the order-anti-isomorphism (onto its image) defined in [M. Henriksen, L. Janos, R.G. Woods, Properties of one-point completions of a non-compact metrizable space, Comment. Math. Univ. Carolin. 46 (2005) 105-123; in short HJW]. By definition λ(Y)=?n<ωclβX(UnX)\X, where Y=X∪{p}∈E(X) and {Un}n<ω is an open base at p in Y. We characterize the elements of the image of λ as exactly those non-empty zero-sets of βX which miss X, and the elements of the image of EK(X) under λ, as those which are moreover clopen in βX\X. This answers a question of [HJW]. We then study the relation between E(X) and EK(X) and their order structures, and introduce a subset ES(X) of E(X). We conclude with some theorems on the cardinality of the sets E(X) and EK(X), and some open questions.  相似文献

For a Tychonoff space X we consider the compact-open and the topology of pointwise convergence on the set of all continuous real-valued functions, define a selective version of the Reznichenko property connecting the two topologies and characterize it dually via a suitable covering property of the space X.  相似文献

We show (in ZFC) that if X is a compact homogeneous Hausdorff space then |X|?2t(X), where t(X) denotes the tightness of X. It follows that under GCH the character and the tightness of such a space coincide.  相似文献

We study the cardinalities of countably compact, locally countableT 3 spaces. For alln(<), there exists one of cardinality n . IfV=L, then there exists one of cardinalityx iffx= orx =x. MA implies that there exists one of cardinality>2.  相似文献

It is shown that the category of Urysohn spaces and continuous maps is not cowellpowered. To this end we will construct for each ordinal number β a Urysohn space Yβ with card (Yβ = ?0? card (β) and a continuous map eβ:Q → Yβ from the rationals into Yβ. It turns out that eβ is an external monomorphism in the category of Hausdorff spaces and an epimorphism in the category of Urysohn spaces.  相似文献

Assuming a measurable cardinal exists, we construct a pair of discretely generated spaces whose product fails to be weakly discretely generated. Under the Continuum Hypothesis, a similar result is obtained for a pair of countable Fréchet spaces as well as for two compact discretely generated spaces whose product is not discretely generated. A somewhat weaker example is presented assuming Martin's Axiom for countable posets. Further, the class of strongly discretely generated compacta is shown to preserve discrete generability in products.  相似文献

A Tychonoff space X is RG if the embedding of C(X)→C(Xδ) is an epimorphism of rings. Compact RG-spaces are known and easily described. We study the pseudocompact RG-spaces. These must be scattered of finite Cantor Bendixon degree but need not be locally compact. However, under strong hypotheses, (countable compactness, or small cardinality) these spaces must, indeed, be compact. The main theorems shows, how to construct a suitable maximal almost disjoint family, and apply it to obtain examples of RG-spaces that are almost compact, locally compact, non-compact, almost-P, and of Cantor Bendixon degree 2. More complicated examples of pseudocompact non-compact RG-spaces ensue.  相似文献

We study weakly continuously Urysohn spaces, which were introduced in [P.L. Zenor, Continuously extending partial functions, Proc. Amer. Math. Soc. 135 (1) (2007) 305-312]. We show that every weakly continuously Urysohn wΔ-space has a base of countable order, that separable weakly continuously Urysohn spaces are submetrizable, hence continuously Urysohn, that monotonically normal weakly continuously Urysohn spaces are hereditarily paracompact, and that no linear extension of any uncountable subspace of the Sorgenfrey line is weakly continuously Urysohn. These results generalize various results in the literature concerning continuously Urysohn spaces.  相似文献

The concept of p-convergence in fuzzy metric spaces, in George and Veeramani's sense, has been recently given by D. Mihet in [D. Mihet, On fuzzy contractive mappings in fuzzy metric spaces, Fuzzy Sets and Systems 158 (2007) 915-921]. In this note we study some aspects relative to this concept and characterize those fuzzy metric spaces, that we call principal, in which the family of p-convergent sequences agrees with the family of convergent sequences. Also a non-completable fuzzy metric space, which is not principal, is given.  相似文献

There has recently been considerable interest in productively Lindelöf spaces, i.e. spaces such that their product with every Lindelöf space is Lindelöf. See e.g. , , , , ,  and , and work in progress by Brendle and Raghavan. Here we make several related remarks about such spaces. Indestructible Lindelöf spaces, i.e. spaces that remain Lindelöf in every countably closed forcing extension, were introduced in [28]. Their connection with topological games and selection principles was explored in [27]. We find further connections here.  相似文献

We study the properties of weakly continuously Urysohn and continuously Urysohn spaces. We show that being a (weakly) continuously Urysohn space is not a multiplicative property, and that this property is not preserved under perfect maps. However, being a weakly continuously Urysohn space is preserved under perfect open maps. By using the scattering process, we show that the class of protometrizable spaces is also contained in the class of continuously Urysohn space. We also give a characterization of the continuously Urysohn property for well-ordered spaces, and prove that a paracompact locally continuously Urysohn ordered space is continuously Urysohn.  相似文献

One can form a polygonal linkage by identifying initial and terminal points of two free linkages. Likewise, one can form a multipolygonal linkage by identifying initial and terminal points of three free linkages. The geometric and topological properties of moduli spaces of multipolygonal linkages in the plane are studied. These spaces are compact algebraic varieties. Some conditions under which these spaces are smooth manifolds, cross products or disjoint unions of moduli spaces of polygonal linkages, or connected, are determined. Dimensions in smooth manifold cases and some Euler characteristics are computed. A classification of generic multiquadrilateral linkages is also made.  相似文献

If a Tychonoff space X is dense in a Tychonoff space Y, then Y is called a Tychonoff extension of X. Two Tychonoff extensions Y1 and Y2 of X are said to be equivalent, if there exists a homeomorphism which keeps X pointwise fixed. This defines an equivalence relation on the class of all Tychonoff extensions of X. We identify those extensions of X which belong to the same equivalence classes. For two Tychonoff extensions Y1 and Y2 of X, we write Y2?Y1, if there exists a continuous function which keeps X pointwise fixed. This is a partial order on the set of all (equivalence classes of) Tychonoff extensions of X. If a Tychonoff extension Y of X is such that Y\X is a singleton, then Y is called a one-point extension of X. Let T(X) denote the set of all one-point extensions of X. Our purpose is to study the order structure of the partially ordered set (T(X),?). For a locally compact space X, we define an order-anti-isomorphism from T(X) onto the set of all nonempty closed subsets of βX\X. We consider various sets of one-point extensions, including the set of all one-point locally compact extensions of X, the set of all one-point Lindelöf extensions of X, the set of all one-point pseudocompact extensions of X, and the set of all one-point ?ech-complete extensions of X, among others. We study how these sets of one-point extensions are related, and investigate the relation between their order structure, and the topology of subspaces of βX\X. We find some lower bounds for cardinalities of some of these sets of one-point extensions, and in a concluding section, we show how some of our results may be applied to obtain relations between the order structure of certain subfamilies of ideals of C(X), partially ordered with inclusion, and the topology of subspaces of βX\X. We leave some problems open.  相似文献

On linear spaces and matroids of arbitrary cardinality   总被引:6,自引:0,他引:6
In this paper, we study linear spaces of arbitrary finite dimension on some (possibly infinite) set. We interpret linear spaces as simple matroids and study the problem of erecting some linear space of dimension n to some linear space of dimension n + 1 if possible. Several examples of some such erections are studied; in particular, one of these erections is computed within some infinite iteration process.Dedicated to the memory of Gian-Carlo Rota  相似文献
