In the frame of the Born approximation it was theoretically investigated nonresonant muon pair production in e + e collision in the field of elliptically polarized electromagnetic wave in the general relativistic case. It was analyzed in detail the reaction kinematics. It was derived the expressions for the amplitude and the cross section of the nonresonant muon pair production in e + e annihilation in the moderately strong field. It was demonstrated that the partial cross-section is factorized as a product of the cross section of the muon pair production from e + e pair in the absence of the external field and the probability of emission and absorption of photons from the wave. We present calculations of normalized higher twist contributions in three processes in which the central sub-processes are related by crossing: the production of hadrons at high transverse momentum relative to the thrust axis ine + e ? annihilation, photoproduction of high transverse momentum pions from a proton target, and high transverse momentum lepton pair production in π? p collisions. The last of these is most interesting, not only because the higher twist contribution is significant, but also the QCD interpretation of the data is uncertain.  相似文献

Abstract

Synchrotron-like processes of radiation and pair production in fields of crystal planes are accompanied by large number of polarization effects. These effects can be used for production and analysis of TeV-energy polarized e +, e ?, photon and hadron beams for their use in high-energy physics. The process of e + and e ? self-polarization accomapnies their radiation in bent crystals, where channeled particles are moving in regions having a preferential direction of the electric field. The results of numerical simulation of self-polarization process with both radiation and multiple scattering taken into account are presented. It is shown that the self-polarization process can be observed using present-day CERN secondary positron beam. At TeV-energy region the efficiency of both e + and e ? self-polarization can be considerably risen by making the crystal curvature growing along the crystal.  相似文献

We study the factorization of processes involving two fragmentation functions in the case of very small transverse momenta. We consider two-hadron production in inclusive e + e annihilation and demonstrate a new simple and illustrative method of factorization for such processes, including leading order α s corrections. It is shown that the expected dip in the diffuse photon spectrum above the threshold of e + e pair production, i.e., at energies 1015–1017 eV, may be absent due to the synchrotron radiation by the electron component of the extragalactic ultrahigh-energy cosmic rays (UHE CRs) in the Galactic magnetic field. The mechanism we propose requires small (<2×10−12 G) extragalactic magnetic fields and a large photon fraction in the UHE CRs. For a typical photon flux expected in top-down scenarios of UHE CRs, the predicted flux in the region of the dip is close to the existing experimental limit. The sensitivity of our mechanism to the extragalactic magnetic field may be used to improve existing bounds on the latter by two orders of magnitude. Pis’ma Zh. éksp. Teor. Damping of an electromagnetic wave in a strong magnetic field is analyzed in the kinematic region near the threshold of electron-positron pair production. Damping of the electromagnetic field is shown to be noticeably nonexponential in this region. The resulting width of the photon γ→e + e ? decay is considerably smaller than previously known results.  相似文献

The radiation caused by particles of one bunch in the collective electromagnetic field of the short oncoming bunch is studied. Quantum effects are calculated for the spectrum of radiated photons. Using this spectrum, the dependence of the relative energy loss δ on a quantum parameter K is discussed. It is shown that the behaviour of δ changes considerably with the increase of that parameter. In the classical regime (K ? 1) the energy loss is proportional to the incoming particle energy, while in the extreme quantum regime (K ? 1) the energy loss becomes a constant. The coherent e+e? pair production for γe colliders as cross-channel to CBS is considered.  相似文献

强磁场下的重粒子碰撞激发过程是重要的非弹性碰撞过程, 但相关研究还几乎是空白. 应用经典蒙特卡洛的方法在得到无磁场下He2++H(1s)的碰撞激发截面的基础上, 详细研究了不同强度的纵向和横向强磁场环境下到不同主量子数n和磁量子数m的碰撞激发过程的态选择截面. 同时用非微扰量子方法, 得到了强磁场下靶原子的能级, 并分析了其随磁场强度变化的原因. 对碰撞过程发现由于磁场的引入导致到不同m态的激发截面有较大的分离, 同时在较低入射能区的态选择截面变化行为与磁场方向有很大关系, 这与能级变化及横向强磁场所特有的抗磁项的相互竞争有密切联系. 通过对有关事例、径迹的分析, 解释了这些变化形成的原因. 也发现由于核的运动, 沿磁场方向的轨道角动量并非绝对守恒, 而有微小的变化. 关键词: 重粒子碰撞激发 经典蒙特卡洛模拟 强磁场 态选择截面  相似文献

The possibility of existance is discussed for pulsars emitting soft γ radiation near their magnetic poles upon the annihilation of ultrarelativistic positrons from the magnetosphere and electrons from the surface of a star. With an increase in the energy of incident positrons, the photon energy of this backward radiation tends to a constant value m e c 2/2=255 keV. This radiation is shown to be directed opposite to the positron flux direction.

We consider axion formation processes in the synchrotron (e e a) and annihilation (e e +a) channels in a constant crossed field F μν Fμν=Fμν*F μν =0, which approximates constant fields of other configurations in the ultrarelativistic asymptotic limit. The probability and intensity of axion emission are obtained, and we analyze the energy and field asymptotics. A comparison with the characteristic neutrino channel yields the constraints on the axion mass and the energy scale for Peccei-Quinn symmetry breaking. We investigate selectron pair production and decay in e - e - scattering and e + e - annihilation with polarized beams taking into account neutralino mixing as well as initial state radiation and beamstrahlung corrections. One of the main advantages of having both modes at disposal is their complementarity concerning the threshold behavior of selectron pair production. In e - e - the cross sections at threshold for and increase proportional to the momentum of the selectron and in e + e - that for . Measurements at threshold with polarized beams can be used to determine the selectron masses precisely. Moreover we discuss how polarized electron and positron beams can be used to establish directly the weak quantum numbers of the selectrons. We also use selectron pair production to determine the gaugino mass parameter M1. This is of particular interest for scenarios with non-universal gaugino masses at a high scale resulting in at the electroweak scale. Moreover, we consider also the case of non-vanishing selectron mixing and demonstrate that it leads to a significant change in the phenomenology of selectrons. This report reviews the experimental investigation of high energy e+e? interactions by the MARK J collaboration at PETRA, the electron-positron colliding beam accelerator at DESY in Hamburg, Germany. The physics objectives include studies of several purely electromagnetic processes and hadronic final states, which further our knowledge of the nature of the fundamental constituents and of their strong, electromagnetic and weak interactions. Before discussing the physics results, the main features and the principal components of the MARK J detector are discussed in terms of design, function, and performance. Several aspects of the on-line data collection and the off-line analysis are also outlined. Results are presented on tests of quantum electrodynamics using e+e? → e+e?, μ+μ? and τ+τ?, on the measurement of R, the ratio of the hadronic to the point-like muon pair cross section, on the search for new quark flavors, on the discovery of three jet events arising from the radiation of hard noncollinear gluons as predicted by quantum chromodynamics, and on the determination of the strong coupling constant αs.  相似文献

General expressions for single and pair production cross sections of excited leptons (e **,v *) are presented. Specific results are shown for a realisticSU(2)×U(1) invariant model. Pair production ine + e ? annihilation can measure anomalous magnetic moments of excited leptons. Single production ofe * is dominated by thet-channel γ exchange contribution which makes its detection feasible up to masses just below thee + e ? c.m. energy. Due to this small |t| enhancement effect, contributions from elastic and resonance scattering inep production ofe * are substantial. In total 1317 di-lepton events with significant missing transverse momentum were identified in a total data sample of 680 pb-1 collected at e + e- centre-of-mass energies ranging from 183 GeV to 209 GeV. The number of di-lepton events, the dependence on centre-of-mass energy, and the event properties are consistent with expectations from Standard Model processes, predominantly W + W- production with both W bosons decaying leptonically. This topology is also an experimental signature for the pair production of new particles that decay to a charged lepton accompanied by one or more invisible particles. No evidence for new phenomena is apparent. Upper limits are presented on the production cross-section multiplied by the relevant branching ratio squared for sleptons, leptonically decaying charginos and charged Higgs bosons. The paper deals with studies of the angular correlation of two mono-energetic particles produced in several fundamental processes in quantum field theory. The angular correlation is defined as the average (expectation value) of the cosine of the angle between the momenta of the two outgoing particles. A positive correlation indicates, in a statistical sense, that the particles tend to travel in the same directions (as in beam formation) while a negative one indicates that they tend to travel in opposing directions. The angular correlations for photons and electrons produced by sources, and in quantum eletrodynamics, to lowest order, γγ produced in e+e collision (annihilation), e+e pair production in γγ collision, and finally e+e pair production by a Nambu string are studied in detail.  相似文献

The mechanism of baryon-anti-baryon pair production in e+e annihilation into hadrons has been studied using the TOPAZ detector at the TRISTAN e+e collider at an average center-of-mass energy of 58 GeV. The distributions of various correlations were compared with two prominent models: the cluster-fragmentation model and the string-fragmentation model. We rejected the cluster-fragmentation model at the 90% C.L. Furthermore, in the context of the string-fragmentation model, we favor the “popcorn” model, rejecting the “diquark” model, where a diquark is considered to be a fundamental entity, at the 95% C.L.  相似文献

In investigating the e+e? → e+e?γ process the radiation probability is oberved to be substantially less than that calculated in the standard QED. The effect is due to the fact that the characteristic impact parameters in the process are much greater than the transverse sizes of the colliding beams. The Compton scattering γ-spectrum of the synchrotron radiation by a colliding beam is measured.  相似文献
