We shall present several Hanner type inequalities with a weight constant and characterize 2-uniformly smooth and 2-uniformly convex Banach spaces with these inequalities. p-Uniformly smooth and q-uniformly convex Banach spaces will be also characterized with another Hanner type inequalities with a weight in the other side term. The best value of the weight in these inequalities will be determined for Lp spaces. Also we shall present a duality theorem between these inequalities in a generalized form.  相似文献

The n-step mixed integer rounding (MIR) inequalities of Kianfar and Fathi (Math Program 120(2):313–346, 2009) are valid inequalities for the mixed-integer knapsack set that are derived by using periodic n-step MIR functions and define facets for group problems. The mingling and 2-step mingling inequalities of Atamtürk and Günlük (Math Program 123(2):315–338, 2010) are also derived based on MIR and they incorporate upper bounds on the integer variables. It has been shown that these inequalities are facet-defining for the mixed integer knapsack set under certain conditions and generalize several well-known valid inequalities. In this paper, we introduce new classes of valid inequalities for the mixed-integer knapsack set with bounded integer variables, which we call n-step mingling inequalities (for positive integer n). These inequalities incorporate upper bounds on integer variables into n-step MIR and, therefore, unify the concepts of n-step MIR and mingling in a single class of inequalities. Furthermore, we show that for each n, the n-step mingling inequality defines a facet for the mixed integer knapsack set under certain conditions. For n?=?2, we extend the results of Atamtürk and Günlük on facet-defining properties of 2-step mingling inequalities. For n ≥ 3, we present new facets for the mixed integer knapsack set. As a special case we also derive conditions under which the n-step MIR inequalities define facets for the mixed integer knapsack set. In addition, we show that n-step mingling can be used to generate new valid inequalities and facets based on covers and packs defined for mixed integer knapsack sets.  相似文献

In this paper we introduce a new technique for proving norm inequalities in operator ideals with a unitarily invariant norm. Among the well-known inequalities which can be proved with this technique are the Löwner-Heinz inequality, inequalities relating various operator means and the Corach-Porta-Recht inequality. We prove two general inequalities and from them we derive several inequalities by specialization, many of them new. We also show how some inequalities, known to be valid for matrices or bounded operators, can be extended with this technique to normed ideals in C-algebras, in particular to the noncommutative Lp-spaces of a semi-finite von Neumann algebra.  相似文献

The most effective software packages for solving mixed 0–1linear programs use strong valid linear inequalities derived from polyhedral theory. We introduce a new procedure which enables one to take known valid inequalities for the knapsack polytope, and convert them into valid inequalities for the fixed-charge and single-node flow polytopes. The resulting inequalities are very different from the previously known inequalities (such as flow cover and flow pack inequalities), and define facets under certain conditions.  相似文献

The interplay between the dynamics of a nonsingular Morse-Smale flow on a smooth, closed, n-dimensional manifold, M, and the topology of M, was exhibited in Franks (Comment Math Helv 53(2):279?C294, 1978), Smale (Bull Am Math Soc 66:43?C49, 1960), by means of a collection of inequalities, which we refer to as Morse-Smale inequalities. These inequalities relate the number of closed orbits of each index to the Betti numbers of M. These well-known inequalities provide the necessary conditions for a given dynamical data in the form of a specified number of closed orbits of a given index to be realized as a nonsingular Morse-Smale flow on M. In this article we provide two inequalities, hereby referred to as Poincaré-Hopf inequalities for periodic orbits, which imposes constraints on the dynamics of periodic orbits without reference to the Betti numbers of the manifold M. The main theorem establishes the necessity and sufficiency of the Poincaré-Hopf inequalities in order for the Morse-Smale inequalities to hold.  相似文献

Valid inequalities for 0-1 knapsack polytopes often prove useful when tackling hard 0-1 Linear Programming problems. To generate such inequalities, one needs separation algorithms for them, i.e., routines for detecting when they are violated. We present new exact and heuristic separation algorithms for several classes of inequalities, namely lifted cover, extended cover, weight and lifted pack inequalities. Moreover, we show how to improve a recent separation algorithm for the 0-1 knapsack polytope itself. Extensive computational results, on MIPLIB and OR Library instances, show the strengths and limitations of the inequalities and algorithms considered.  相似文献

The max-cut problem is a fundamental combinatorial optimisation problem, with many applications. Poljak and Turzik found some facet-defining inequalities for the associated polytope, which we call 2-circulant inequalities. We present a more general family of facet-defining inequalities, an exact separation algorithm that runs in polynomial time, and some computational results.  相似文献

This paper presents a new class of valid inequalities for the single-item capacitated lot sizing problem with step-wise production costs (LS-SW). Constant sized batch production is carried out with a limited production capacity in order to satisfy the customer demand over a finite horizon. A new class of valid inequalities we call mixed flow cover, is derived from the existing integer flow cover inequalities by a lifting procedure. The lifting coefficients are sequence independent when the batch sizes (V) and the production capacities (P) are constant and when V divides P. When the restriction of the divisibility is removed, the lifting coefficients are shown to be sequence independent. We identify some cases where the mixed flow cover inequalities are facet defining. We propose a cutting plane algorithm for different classes of valid inequalities introduced in the paper. The exact separation algorithm proposed for the constant capacitated case runs in polynomial time. Computational results show the efficiency of the new class mixed flow cover compared to the existing methods.  相似文献

The stable set polytope is a fundamental object in combinatorial optimization. Among the many valid inequalities that are known for it, the clique-family inequalities play an important role. Pêcher and Wagler showed that the clique-family inequalities can be strengthened under certain conditions. We show that they can be strengthened even further, using a surprisingly simple mixed-integer rounding argument.  相似文献

We generalize the Ap extrapolation theorem of Rubio de Francia to A weights in the context of Muckenhoupt bases. Our result has several important features. First, it can be used to prove weak endpoint inequalities starting from strong-type inequalities, something which is impossible using the classical result. Second, it provides an alternative to the technique of good-λ inequalities for proving Lp norm inequalities relating operators. Third, it yields vector-valued inequalities without having to use the theory of Banach space valued operators. We give a number of applications to maximal functions, singular integrals, potential operators, commutators, multilinear Calderón-Zygmund operators, and multiparameter fractional integrals. In particular, we give new proofs, which completely avoid the good-λ inequalities, of Coifman's inequality relating singular integrals and the maximal operator, of the Fefferman-Stein inequality relating the maximal operator and the sharp maximal operator, and the Muckenhoupt-Wheeden inequality relating the fractional integral operator and the fractional maximal operator.  相似文献

Let T be a Hermitian operator on a Banach space and let P be a real quadratic polynomial. Among other inequalities we give lower bounds for |P(T)x| in terms of |x|, |Tx|, and |T2x|. As a special case we deduce extensions of some classical inequalities involving derivatives of a function and obtain some new inequalities of this kind.  相似文献

The rank-sum, rank-product, and rank-union inequalities for Gondran-Minoux rank of matrices over idempotent semirings are considered. We prove these inequalities for matrices over quasi-selective semirings without zero divisors, which include matrices over the max-plus semiring. Moreover, it is shown that the inequalities provide the linear algebraic characterization for the class of quasi-selective semirings. Namely, it is proven that the inequalities hold for matrices over an idempotent semiring S without zero divisors if and only if S is quasi-selective. For any idempotent semiring which is not quasi-selective it is shown that the rank-sum, rank-product, and rank-union inequalities do not hold in general. Also, we provide an example of a selective semiring with zero divisors such that the rank-sum, rank-product, and rank-union inequalities do not hold in general.  相似文献

The paper considers Volterra type integral operators acting in L2(T), where T is a partially ordered topological space as well as equations and inequalities related to them. For the linear operators of this type it is shown that they are quasinilpotent. Explicit estimates for the solutions of linear integral inequalities have been obtained. Nonlinear equations and inequalities have also been considered.  相似文献

We present a method of lifting linear inequalities for the flag f-vector of polytopes to higher dimensions. Known inequalities that can be lifted using this technique are the non-negativity of the toric g-vector and that the simplex minimizes the cd-index. We obtain new inequalities for six-dimensional polytopes. In the last section we present the currently best known inequalities for dimensions 5 through 8.  相似文献

The principal goal of this paper is to show that the various sufficient conditions for a real entire function, φ(x), to belong to the Laguerre-Pólya class (Definition 1.1), expressed in terms of Laguerre-type inequalities, do not require the a priori assumptions about the order and type of φ(x). The proof of the main theorem (Theorem 2.3) involving the generalized real Laguerre inequalities, is based on a beautiful geometric result, the Borel-Carathédodory Inequality (Theorem 2.1), and on a deep theorem of Lindelöf (Theorem 2.2). In case of the complex Laguerre inequalities (Theorem 3.2), the proof is sketched for it requires a slightly more delicate analysis. Section 3 concludes with some other cognate results, an open problem and a conjecture which is based on Cardon’s recent, ingenious extension of the Laguerre-type inequalities.  相似文献

We introduce the notion of δ-invariant for curvature-like tensor fields and establish optimal general inequalities in case the curvature-like tensor field satisfies some algebraic Gauss equation. We then study the situation when the equality case of one of the inequalities is satisfied and prove a dimension and decomposition theorem. In the second part of the paper, we apply these results to definite centroaffine hypersurfaces in Rn+1. The inequality is specified into an inequality involving the affine δ-invariants and the Tchebychev vector field. We show that if a centroaffine hypersurface satisfies the equality case of one of the inequalities, then it is a proper affine hypersphere. Furthermore, we prove that if a positive definite centroaffine hypersurface in , satisfies the equality case of one of the inequalities, it is foliated by ellipsoids. And if a negative definite centroaffine hypersurface satisfies the equality case of one of the inequalities, then it is foliated by two-sheeted hyperboloids. Some further applications of the inequalities are also provided in this article.  相似文献

This Note is devoted to the proof of convex Sobolev (or generalized Poincaré) inequalities which interpolate between spectral gap (or Poincaré) inequalities and logarithmic Sobolev inequalities. We extend to the whole family of convex Sobolev inequalities results which have recently been obtained by Cattiaux, and Carlen and Loss for logarithmic Sobolev inequalities. Under local conditions on the density of the measure with respect to a reference measure, we prove that spectral gap inequalities imply all convex Sobolev inequalities including in the limit case corresponding to the logarithmic Sobolev inequalities. We show that fractional (p, p)-Poincaré inequalities and even fractional Sobolev-Poincaré inequalities hold for bounded John domains, and especially for bounded Lipschitz domains. We also prove sharp fractional (1,p)-Poincaré inequalities for s-John domains.  相似文献

We discuss and complement the knowledge about generalized Orlicz classes $ \tilde X_\Phi $ and Orlicz spaces X Φ obtained by replacing the space L 1 in the classical construction by an arbitrary Banach function space X. Our main aim is to focus on the task to study inequalities in such spaces. We prove a number of new inequalities and also natural generalizations of some classical ones (e.g., Minkowski’s, Hölder’s and Young’s inequalities). Moreover, a number of other basic facts for further study of inequalities and function spaces are included.  相似文献
