In this paper we study the application of boundary integral equation methods for the solution of the third, or Robin, boundary value problem for the exterior Helmholtz equation. In contrast to earlier work, the boundary value problem is interpreted here in a weak sense which allows data to be specified in L (?D), ?D being the boundary of the exterior domain which we assume to be Lyapunov of index 1. For this exterior boundary value problem, we employ Green's theorem to derive a pair of boundary integral equations which have a unique simultaneous solution. We then show that this solution yields a solution of the original exterior boundary value problem.  相似文献

Although the plane boundary value problem for the Laplacian with given Dirichlet data on one part Γ2 and given Neumann data on the remaining part Γ2 of the boundary is the simplest case of mixed boundary value problems, we present several applications in classical mathematical physics. Using Green's formula the problem is converted into a system of Fredholm integral equations for the yet unknown values of the solution u on Γ2 and the also desired values of the normal derivatie on Γ1. One of these equations has principal part of the second kind, whereas that one of the other is of the first kind. Since any improvement of constructive methods requires higher regularity of u but, on the other hand, grad u possesses singularities at the collision points Γ1 ∩ Γ2 even for C data, u is decomposed into special singular terms and a regular rest. This is incorporated into the integral equations and the modified system is solved in appropriate Sobolev spaces. The solution of the system requires to solve a Fredholm equation of the first kind on the arc Γ2 providing an improvement of regularity for the smooth part of u. Since the integral equations form a strongly elliptic system of pseudodifferential operators, the Galerkin procedure converges. Using regular finite element functions on Γ1 and Γ2 augmented by the special singular functions we obtain optimal order of asymptotic convergence in the norm corresponding to the energy norm of u and also superconvergence as well as high orders in smoother norms if the given data are smooth (and not the solution).  相似文献

A boundary integral method is developed for the mixed boundary value problem for the vector Helmholtz equation in R3. The obtained boundary integral equations for the unknown Cauchy data build a strong elliptic system of pseudodifferential equations which can therefore be used for numerical computations using Galerkin's procedure. We show existence, uniqueness and regularity of the solution of the integral equations. Especially we give the local "edge" behavior of the solution near the submanifold which divides the Dirichlet boundary from the Neumann boundary  相似文献

A Neumann boundary value problem of the Helmholtz equation in the exterior circular domain is reduced into an equivalent natural boundary integral equation. Using our trigonometric wavelets and the Galerkin method, the obtained stiffness matrix is symmetrical and circulant, which lead us to a fast numerical method based on fast Fourier transform. Furthermore, we do not need to compute the entries of the stiffness matrix. Especially, our method is also efficient when the wave number k in the Helmholtz equation is very large.  相似文献

In this paper we describe some modified regularized boundary integral equations to solve the exterior boundary value problem for the Helmholtz equation with either Dirichlet or Neumann boundary conditions. We formulate combined boundary integral equations which are uniquely solvable for all wave numbers even for Lipschitz boundaries Γ=∂Ω. This approach extends and unifies existing regularized combined boundary integral formulations.  相似文献

In usual boundary elements methods, the mixed Dirichlet-Neumann problem in a plane polygonal domain leads to difficulties because of the transition of spaces in which the problem is well posed. We build collocation methods based on a mixed single and double layer potential. This indirect method is constructed in such a way that strong ellipticity is obtained in high order spaces of Sobolev type. The boundary values of this potential define a bijective boundary operator if a modified capacity adapted to the problem is not . This condition is analogous to the one met in the use of the single layer potential, and is not a problem in practical computations. The collocation methods use smoothest splines and known singular functions generated by the corners. If splines of order are used, we get quasi-optimal estimates in -norm. The order of convergence is optimal in the sense that it is fixed by the approximation properties of the first missed singular function.  相似文献

In this paper we consider the scattering of an electromagnetic time-harmonic plane wave by an infinite cylinder having an open arc and a bounded domain in R2 as cross section. To this end, we solve a scattering problem for the Helmholtz equation in R2 where the scattering object is a combination of a crack Γ and a bounded obstacle D, and we have Dirichlet-impedance type boundary condition on Γ and Dirichlet boundary condition on ∂D (∂DC2). Applying potential theory, the problem can be reformulated as a boundary integral system. We establish the existence and uniqueness of a solution to the system by using the Fredholm theory.  相似文献

In this paper we will prove existence, uniqueness and regularity of a classical solution to a mixed boundary value problem for Chaplygin's hodograph equation, which is degenerate elliptic on a part of the boundary. This problem is derived from the study of detached bow shock ahead of a straight ramp in uniform supersonic flows in the hodograph plane. The proof depends on Perron's method and some techniques from linear elliptic equations.  相似文献

We propose a new integral equation formulation to characterize and compute transmission eigenvalues for constant refractive index that play an important role in inverse scattering problems for penetrable media. As opposed to the recently developed approach by Cossonnière and Haddar [1,2] which relies on a two by two system of boundary integral equations our analysis is based on only one integral equation in terms of Dirichlet-to-Neumann or Robin-to-Dirichlet operators which results in a noticeable reduction of computational costs. We establish Fredholm properties of the integral operators and their analytic dependence on the wave number. Further we employ the numerical algorithm for analytic non-linear eigenvalue problems that was recently proposed by Beyn [3] for the numerical computation of transmission eigenvalues via this new integral equation.  相似文献

In this paper, we are going to deal with the nonlocal mixed boundary value problem for the Moore‐Gibson‐Thompson equation. Galerkin method was the main used tool for proving the solvability of the given nonlocal problem.  相似文献

Summary Brakhage and Werner, Leis and Panich suggested to reduce the exterior Dirichlet boundary value problem for the Helmholtz equation to an integral equation of the second kind which is uniquely solvable for all frequencies by seeking the solution in the form of a combined double- and single-layer potential. We present an analysis of the appropriate choice of the parameter coupling the double- and single-layer potential in order to minimize the condition number of the integral operator. This research was carried out while the second author was visiting the University of Göttingen on a DAAD-stipendium  相似文献

We consider the scattering of an electromagnetic time‐harmonic plane wave by an infinite cylinder having a mixed open crack (or arc) in R2 as the cross section. The crack is made up of two parts, and one of the two parts is (possibly) coated by a material with surface impedance λ. We transform the scattering problem into a system of boundary integral equations by adopting a potential approach, and establish the existence and uniqueness of a weak solution to the system by the Fredholm theory. A boundary integral equation for the exterior Robin problem for Helmholtz's equation is analyzed in this paper. This integral operator is not compact. A proof based on a suitable regularization of this integral operator and the Fredholm alternative for the regularized compact operator was given by other authors. In this paper, we will give a direct existence and uniqueness proof for the boundary non-compact integral equation in the space settings C1,λ(S) and C0,λ(S), where S is a closed bounded smooth surface.  相似文献
