A graph G is said to be retarded regular if there is a positive integral number s such that the number of walks of length s starting at vertices of G is a constant function. We study the abstract regular polyhedra with automorphism groups that act faithfully on their vertices, and show that each non-flat abstract regular polyhedron covers a “vertex-faithful” polyhedron with the same number of vertices. We then use this result and earlier work on flat polyhedra to study abstract regular polyhedra based on the size of their vertex set. In particular, we classify all regular polyhedra where the number of vertices is prime or twice a prime. We also construct the smallest regular polyhedra with a prime squared number of vertices.  相似文献

We study the quasi-strongly regular graphs, which are a combinatorial generalization of the strongly regular and the distance regular graphs. Our main focus is on quasi-strongly regular graphs of grade 2. We prove a “spectral gap”-type result for them which generalizes Seidel's well-known formula for the eigenvalues of a strongly regular graph. We also obtain a number of necessary conditions for the feasibility of parameter sets and some structural results. We propose the heuristic principle that the quasi-strongly regular graphs can be viewed as a “lower-order approximation” to the distance regular graphs. This idea is illustrated by extending a known result from the distance-regular case to the quasi-strongly regular case. Along these lines, we propose a number of conjectures and open problems. Finally, we list the all the proper connected quasi-strongly graphs of grade 2 with up to 12 vertices.  相似文献

This work is devoted to results obtained in the model theory of regular polygons. We give a characterization of monoids with axiomatizable and model-complete class of regular polygons. We describe monoids with complete class of regular polygons that satisfy some additional conditions. We study monoids whose regular core is represented as a union of finitely many principal right ideals and all regular polygons over which have a stable and superstable theory. We prove the stability of the class of all regular polygons over a monoid provided this class is axiomatizable and model-complete. Summary In an earlier paper, a theory of realizations of (finite) regular polytopes in euclidean spaces was developed. Here, the analogous problem of realizing regular apeirotopes (infinite polytopes) is investigated. While no complete theory is expounded, several basic results are established. Among these is the curious fact that, if a regular apeirotope has a discrete realization, then it has one with no translations in its symmetry group.  相似文献

We consider the relations between the lengths of periodic billiard trajectories in regular triangles, squares, and regular pentagons and those of closed geodesics on the surfaces of regular polyhedra. The cases of regular tetrahedra and octahedra are fully resolved in [3]. The cases of cubes and regular icosahedra are treated below. A semigroup is called eventually regular if a power of each element is regular. Regular and group-bound semigroups are each eventually regular. A tolerance relation on an eventually regular semigroup is introduced, and Lallement's result for regular semigroups is generalized to eventually regular semigroups. Weakly compatible tolerances on semigroups are studied. This research was partially supported by the National Science Foundation of Qufu Normal University. The author wishes to thank T. E. We study a class of t-designs which enjoy a high degree of regularity. These are the subsets of vertices of the Johnson graph which are completely regular, in the sense of Delsarte [Philips Res. Reports Suppl. 10 (1973)]. After setting up the basic theory, we describe the known completely regular designs. We derive very strong restrictions which must hold in order for a design to be completely regular. As a result, we are able to determine which symmetric designs are completely regular and which Steiner systems with t = 2 are completely regular. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. It has been observed that the category of all regular rings, when viewed as a full subcategory of the category of all rings, is not an algebraic variety. However if a regular ring is viewed as a ring equipped with a unary operation q such that xxqx = x and 0000q= 0, then the category of all rings with this added structure is indeed a variety but it is not, in any natural way, a subcategory of the category of all rings. In this article regular rings are viewed in this way and the free commutative regular rings are constructed. They are derived from the universal commutative regular ring associated with certain polynomial rings.  相似文献

The most natural seminearrings, i.e., the seminearrings of all self-maps of additive semigroups are necessarily multiplicatively regular but they need not be additively regular. The purpose of this paper is to investigate additively regular seminearrings. We mainly focus on the study of congruences in various types of additively regular seminearrings such as additively inverse, additively Clifford and Bandelt seminearrings. We deduce that for a restricted type of additively inverse seminearrings there exists an inclusion preserving bijective correspondence between the set of all normal congruences and that of all full k-ideals. Finally, we characterize those seminearrings which are the subdirect product of a distributive lattice and a zero symmetric near-ring.  相似文献
