Let X be an algebraic variety defined over a field of characteristic zero, and let ξMax_mult(X) be a point in the closed subset of maximum multiplicity of X. We provide a criterion, given in terms of arcs, to determine whether ξ is isolated in Max_mult(X). More precisely, we use invariants of arcs derived from the Nash multiplicity sequence to characterize when ξ is an isolated point in Max_mult(X).  相似文献

This paper firstly discusses the existence of strongly irreducible operators on Banach spaces. It shows that there exist strongly irreducible operators on Banach spaces with w*-separable dual. It also gives some properties of strongly irreducible operators on Banach spaces. In particular, if T is a strongly irreducible operator on an infinite-dimensional Banach space, then T is not of finite rank and T is not an algebraic operator. On Banach spaces with subsymmetric bases, including infinite-dimensional separable Hilbert spaces, it shows that quasisimilarity does not preserve strong irreducibility. In addition, we show that the strong irreducibility of an operator does not imply the strong irreducibility of its conjugate operator, which is not the same as the property in Hilbert spaces.  相似文献

Let K be an algebraically closed field of characteristic p>0. The aim of the article is to give a classification of simple parametrized plane curve singularities over K. We prove that every place P of an algebraic function field F|K of arbitrary characteristic admits local uniformization in a finite extension F of F. We show that F|F can be chosen to be Galois, after a finite purely inseparable extension of the ground field K. Instead of being Galois, the extension can also be chosen such that the induced extension FP|FP of the residue fields is purely inseparable and the value group of F only gets divided by the residue characteristic. If F lies in the completion of an Abhyankar place, then no extension of F is needed. Our proofs are based solely on valuation theoretical theorems, which are of particular importance in positive characteristic. They are also applicable when working over a subring RK and yield similar results if R is regular and of dimension smaller than 3.  相似文献

Let G be a reductive group over a field k of characteristic ≠2, let , let θ be an involutive automorphism of G and let be the associated symmetric space decomposition. For the case of a ground field of characteristic zero, the action of the isotropy group Gθ on is well understood, since the well-known paper of Kostant and Rallis [B. Kostant, S. Rallis, Orbits and representations associated with symmetric spaces, Amer. J. Math. 93 (1971) 753–809]. Such a theory in positive characteristic has proved more difficult to develop. Here we use an approach based on some tools from geometric invariant theory to establish corresponding results in (good) positive characteristic.Among other results, we prove that the variety of nilpotent elements of has a dense open orbit, and that the same is true for every fibre of the quotient map . However, we show that the corresponding statement for G, conjectured by Richardson, is not true. We provide a new, (mostly) calculation-free proof of the number of irreducible components of , extending a result of Sekiguchi for . Finally, we apply a theorem of Skryabin to describe the infinitesimal invariants .  相似文献

We will classify, up to linear representations, all geometries fully embedded in an affine space with the property that for every antiflag {p,L} of the geometry there are either 0, α, or q lines through p intersecting L. An example of such a geometry with α=2 is the following well known geometry . Let Qn+1 be a nonsingular quadric in a finite projective space , n≥3, q even. We project Qn+1 from a point rQn+1, distinct from its nucleus if n+1 is even, on a hyperplane not through r. This yields a partial linear space whose points are the points p of , such that the line 〈p,r〉 is a secant to Qn+1, and whose lines are the lines of which contain q such points. This geometry is fully embedded in an affine subspace of and satisfies the antiflag property mentioned. As a result of our classification theorem we will give a new characterization theorem of this geometry.  相似文献

We show the existence of a compact metric space K such that whenever K embeds isometrically into a Banach space Y, then any separable Banach space is linearly isometric to a subspace of Y. We also address the following related question: if a Banach space Y contains an isometric copy of the unit ball or of some special compact subset of a separable Banach space X, does it necessarily contain a subspace isometric to X? We answer positively this question when X is a polyhedral finite-dimensional space, c0 or ?1.  相似文献

We construct a 0-dimensional metric space which under a special set-theoretic assumption, denoted in the paper as S(), does not have a 0-dimensional completion. Shortly after the submission of the paper for publication R. Dougherty has shown the consistency of S(). (S() disagrees with the continuum hypothesis.)

We present a complete classification of the zero set of a function which is a convolution with the Gaussian kernel. In the first part, we calculate the Taylor expansion of the convolution in a critical point. In the second part, we resolve the singularity with the help of the general Newton process which yields the Puiseux expansions for the solutions. Finally, we describe the resolved singularity in terms of Hermite polynomials.

In this paper we develop a very explicit theory of ramification of general valuations in algebraic function fields. In characteristic zero and arbitrary dimension, we obtain the strongest possible generalization of the classical ramification theory of local Dedekind domains. We further develop a ramification theory of algebraic functions fields of dimension two in positive characteristic. We prove that local monomialization and simultaneous resolution hold under very mild assumptions, and give pathological examples.  相似文献

A rigidity theorem is proved for principal Eschenburg spaces of positive sectional curvature. It is shown that for a very large class of such spaces the homotopy type determines the diffeomorphism type.
