On a locally compact group G, if , for some probability measuresv n and μ onG, then a sufficient condition is obtained for the set to be relatively compact; this in turn implies the embeddability of a shift of μ. The condition turns out to be also necessary when G is totally disconnected. In particular, it is shown that ifG is a discrete linear group over R then a shift of the limit μ is embeddable. It is also shown that any infinitesimally divisible measure on a connected nilpotent real algebraic group is embeddable.  相似文献

We extend previous results on noncommutative recurrence in unital *-algebras over the integers to the case where one works over locally compact Hausdorff groups. We derive a generalization of Khintchine's recurrence theorem, as well as a form of multiple recurrence. This is done using the mean ergodic theorem in Hilbert space, via the GNS construction.  相似文献

In this paper, we generalize the notion of the canonical extension of automorphisms of von Neumann algebras to the case of actions of locally compact quantum groups (in the sense of Kustermans and Vaes). Various expected properties will be shown to hold for this new canonical extension. As an application, we describe the flow of weights of the crossed product of a type III factor by some special action of a discrete Kac algebra.  相似文献

In this paper we study two problems concerning Assouad-Nagata dimension:
(1)
Is there a metric space of positive asymptotic Assouad-Nagata dimension such that all of its asymptotic cones are of Assouad-Nagata dimension zero? (Dydak and Higes, 2008 [11, Question 4.5]).
(2)
Suppose G is a locally finite group with a proper left invariant metric dG. If dimAN(G,dG)>0, is dimAN(G,dG) infinite? (Brodskiy et al., preprint [6, Problem 5.3]).
The first question is answered positively. We provide examples of metric spaces of positive (even infinite) Assouad-Nagata dimension such that all of its asymptotic cones are ultrametric. The metric spaces can be groups with proper left invariant metrics.The second question has a negative solution. We show that for each n there exists a locally finite group of Assouad-Nagata dimension n. As a consequence this solves for non-finitely generated countable groups the question about the existence of metric spaces of finite asymptotic dimension whose asymptotic Assouad-Nagata dimension is larger but finite.  相似文献

The asymptotic behavior of the Haar measure of Un = U · U ··· U, where U is a compact neighborhood of the identity in a separable, connected locally compact group, is considered. It is shown that for a given group G, the measure of Un grows at most polynomially for all U ? G, or at least exponentially for all U ? G. The groups having polynomial growth are characterized in terms of uniformly discrete free subsemigroups and in terms of the eigenvalues of elements occurring in the adjoint group of an approximating Lie group.  相似文献

Let Γ be a finite graph and G be the corresponding free partially commutative group. In this paper we study subgroups generated by vertices of the graph Γ, which we call canonical parabolic subgroups. A natural extension of the definition leads to canonical quasiparabolic subgroups. It is shown that the centralisers of subsets of G are the conjugates of canonical quasiparabolic centralisers satisfying certain graph theoretic conditions.  相似文献

We show that every locally finite -group, satisfying the -Engel identity, is (nilpotent of -bounded class)-by-(finite exponent) where the best upper bound for the exponent is either or if is odd. When the best upper bound is or . In the second part of the paper we focus our attention on -Engel groups. With the aid of the results of the first part we show that every -Engel -group is soluble and the derived length is bounded by some constant.

Let G be an infinite locally finite connected graph. We study the reconstructibility of G in relation to the structure of its end set . We prove that an infinite locally finite connected graph G is reconstructible if there exists a finite family i)0i (n2) of pairwise finitely separable subsets of such that, for all x,y,x′,yV(G) and every isomorphism f of G−{x,y} onto G−{x′,y′} there is a permutation π of {0,…,n−1} such that for 0i<n. From this theorem we deduce, as particular consequences, that G is reconstructible if it satisfies one of the following properties: (i) G contains no end-respecting subdivision of the dyadic tree and has at least two ends of maximal order; (ii) the set of thick ends or the one of thin ends of G is finite and of cardinality greater than one. We also prove that if almost all vertices of G are cutvertices, then G is reconstructible if it contains a free end or if it has at least a vertex which is not a cutvertex.  相似文献

We prove a group analogue of the well-known Heyde theorem where a Gaussian measure is characterized by the symmetry of the conditional distribution of one linear form given another. A measure μ of finite total variation on a locally compact group G is idempotent if μ 1 μ = μ, and is central if invariant under all inner automorphisms of G. Recent results of D. Rider and D. In this paper, we prove the Donoho–Stark uncertainty principle for locally compact quantum groups and characterize the minimizer which are bi-shifts of group-like projections. We also prove the Hirschman–Beckner uncertainty principle for compact quantum groups and discrete quantum groups. We give an overview on twisting commutative algebraic groups and applications to discrete log-based cryptography. We explain how discrete log-based cryptography over extension fields can be reduced to cryptography in primitive subgroups. Primitive subgroups in turn are part of a general theory of tensor products of commutative algebraic groups and Galois modules (or twists of commutative algebraic groups), and this underlying mathematical theory can be used to shed light on discrete log-based cryptosystems. We give a number of concrete examples, to illustrate the definitions and results in an explicit way.  相似文献

A method for choosing equilibria in strategic form games is proposed and axiomatically characterized. The method as well as the axioms are inspired by the Nash bargaining theory. Let A be a Banach algebra with a faithful multiplication and AA〉 be the quotient Banach algebra of A∗∗ with the left Arens product. We introduce a natural Banach algebra, which is a closed subspace of AA〉 but equipped with a distinct multiplication. With the help of this Banach algebra, new characterizations of the topological centre Zt(AA〉) of AA〉 are obtained, and a characterization of Zt(AA〉) by Lau and Ülger for A having a bounded approximate identity is extended to all Banach algebras. The study of this Banach algebra motivates us to introduce the notion of SIN locally compact quantum groups and the concept of quotient strong Arens irregularity. We give characterizations of co-amenable SIN quantum groups, which are even new for locally compact groups. Our study shows that the SIN property is intrinsically related to topological centre problems. We also give characterizations of quotient strong Arens irregularity for all quantum group algebras. Within the class of Banach algebras introduced recently by the authors, we characterize the unital ones, generalizing the corresponding result of Lau and Ülger. We study the interrelationships between strong Arens irregularity and quotient strong Arens irregularity, revealing the complex nature of topological centre problems. Some open questions by Lau and Ülger on Zt(AA〉) are also answered.  相似文献
