In 1983, in order to suit the rapid development of radiation processing, a programme of high dose standardization was initiated in China. As a result, a high dose measurement system for gamma - rays including primary standards, transfer standards and working dosimeters, has been established. In this paper, the scheme of dosimetry traceability to national standards for gamma - rays is illustrated. The aspects of standardization and the progress of dosimetry of radiation processing are also outlined.

In order to implement “the Law on Metrology of the Peoples Republic of China” and to guarantee the product quality of radiation processing. SBTS and SCTS have jointly issued “the Provisional Regulation of Metrological Supervision and Management for Radiation Processing”. A series of national standards, verification regulations and technical norms have been enacted and issued on the radiation processing dosimetry and on the approval of irradiation facilities. These documents are expected to play significant roles in the dose measurement standardization and the regularity control.  相似文献

ISO radiation sterilization standards   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
This presentation provides an overview of the current status of the ISO radiation sterilization standards. The ISO standards are voluntary standards which detail both the validation and routine control of the sterilization process. ISO 11137 was approved in 1994 and published in 1995. When reviewing the standard you will note that less than 20% of the standard is devoted to requirements and the remainder is guidance on how to comply with the requirements.

Future standards developments in radiation sterilization are being focused on providing additional guidance. The guidance that is currently provided in informative annexes of ISO 11137 includes: device/packaging materials, dose setting methods, and dosimeters and dose measurement, currently, there are four Technical Reports being developed to provide additional guidance:

1. 1. AAMI Draft TIR, “Radiation Sterilization Material Qualification”
2. 2. ISO TR 13409-1996, “Sterilization of health care products — Radiation sterilization — Substantiation of 25 kGy as a sterilization dose for small or infrequent production batches”
3. 3. ISO Draft TR, “Sterilization of health care products — Radiation sterilization Selection of a sterilization dose for a single production batch” li]4. ISO Draft TR, “Sterilization of health care products — Radiation sterilization-Product Families, Plans for Sampling and Frequency of Dose Audits.”

An extensive study of the radiation resistance of microbial species constituting the bioburden of a number of different medical devices obtained from Japanese medical device manufacturers has been carried out. A standard protocol for determining radiation resistance was used and validated at the fourteen centres involved in the study. Individual microbial isolates from the bioburden obtained from seven different devices manufactured in these centres were studied. A total of 3742 unselected isolates were obtained, of which 197 failed to survive long enough for subsequent radiation resistance studies. The remainder were subjected to an initial screen test to identify those organisms that were sensitive to the lethal effects of radiation with a D10 of < 1.5kGy. The 465 isolates that survived the screen doses were then tested for survival in an incremental series of radiation doses using methods similar to those of Whitby (1979) and Yan and Tallentire(1995). The isolates from “dry” devices were more resistant than those obtained from the one water filled (“wet”) device studied. The overall distribution of radiation resistance among the isolates was considered to be similar to that forming the “Standard Distribution of Resistance” (SDR) included in the ISO International Standard 11137 “Sterilization of Health Care Products — Requirements for validation and routine control — Radiation sterilization”.  相似文献

This paper discusses how gamma irradiation plants are putting the latest advances in computer and information technology to use for better process control, cost savings, and strategic advantages.

Some irradiator operations are gaining significant benefits by integrating computer technology and robotics with real-time information processing, multi-user databases, and communication networks. The paper reports on several irradiation facilities that are making good use of client/server LANs, user-friendly graphics interfaces, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems, distributed I/O with real-time sensor devices, trending analysis, real-time product tracking, dynamic product scheduling, and automated dosimetry reading. These plants are lowering costs by fast and reliable reconciliation of dosimetry data, easier validation to GMP requirements, optimizing production flow, and faster release of sterilized products to market.

There is a trend in the manufacturing sector towards total automation using “predictive process control”. Real-time verification of process parameters “on-the-run” allows control parameters to be adjusted appropriately, before the process strays out of limits. Applying this technology to the gamma radiation process, control will be based on monitoring the key parameters such as time, and making adjustments during the process to optimize quality and throughput. Dosimetry results will be used as a quality control measurement rather than as a final monitor for the release of the product. Results are correlated with the irradiation process data to quickly and confidently reconcile variations. Ultimately, a parametric process control system utilizing responsive control, feedback and verification will not only increase productivity and process efficiency, but can also result in operating within tighter dose control set points.  相似文献

In order to implement the “Law of metrology of the People's Republic of China” for guaranteeing the product quality of radiation processing, safeguarding State's interest and people's health, promoting the progress of radiation processing techniques, SBTS and SCST have jointly issued “the Provisional Regulation of Metrological Supervision and Management for Radiation Processing”, according to present situation of ionizing radiation measurement in radiation precessing plants. This is an administrative rule, which provides the regulation of radiation measurement licence for radiation precessing plants. SBTS has decided to establish the State Office of Technical Examination for Measurement Licence of Radiation Processing, which is attached to the National Institute of Metrology (NIM). Its main tasks include establishment of examination plans for radiation processing licence, organization of technical examination and other works related to the measurement regulation and performance of measurement supervision and regulation inradiation processing fields.  相似文献

“Radiation Fair” has been held in summer vacation season in August for more than 10 years in Osaka, the largest city of western Japan, for the purpose of public education and information transfer of radiation and radiation-related technology. We distributed questionnaires to the visitors for recent 3 years to inquire their status toward radiation and irradiated products including irradiated potatoes as well as impression toward the displays. According to the survey results, more than 60% of the kids visitors were satisfied with this exhibition as informative, more than half of the older visitors (16 years old and upward) indicated that they recognized the word of “radiation” when they were at elementary school and the most significant sources of this information were school lessons and the mass media. Consumer's image toward radiation seems to shift to more “positive” when correct knowledge about radiation is given. More than half of consumers did not know “irradiated potatoes” but the percentage indicating that irradiated potatoes was definitely hazardous was less than 10%.  相似文献

Several milestones have marked the field of radiation processing dosimetry since IMRP 7. Among them are the IAEA symposium on High Dose Dosimetry for Radiation Processing and the international Workshops on Dosimetry for Radiation Processing organized by the ASTM.

Several standards have been or are being published by the ASTM in this field, both on dosimetry procedures and on the proper use of specific dosimeter systems. Several individuals are involved in this international cooperation which contribute significantly to the broader understanding of the role of dosimetry in radiation processing.

The importance of dosimetry is emphasized in the standards on radiation sterilization which are currently drafted by the European standards organization CEN and by the international standards organization ISO. In both standards, dosimetry plays key roles in characterization of the facility, in qualification of the process and in routine process control.

As a function of the work on the standards, several issues are now receiving major attention. These include traceability and uncertainty limits of the dose measurements, calibration procedures, environmental influence and combination of influence factors such as dose rate and temperature.

The increased attention to these factors have increased the demands on existing dosimeter systems, and rather than new dosimeters, the latest years have seen improvements on established dosimeters.  相似文献

Two industrial scale, “ROBO” type 60Co gamma irradiation facilities have recently been put into operation in Syria and Peru, and the dosimetry commissioning of both plants have been carried out to determine dose distribution within products and to calculate plant parameters such as efficiency, dose uniformity ratio and throughput. There are some design modifications between the two plants in connection with the location of the carriers with respect to the source plaque and also to each other. The effect of these construction modifications on the plant parameters is discussed in the analysis of the dose distribution data measured in the carriers with depth and height among the four irradiation rows on both sides of the source plaque. The plant parameters were also calculated for different product densities using the technical data of the facilities, and the calculated and measured results were compared to each other.  相似文献

Radiation modification of the gel content and the complex modulus of plastics was used to determine the depth-dose distribution in a solid polyethylene block irradiated with a 10 MeV electron beam, under typical radiation processing conditions. The results indicate that the accumulated charge has no significant effect on the shape of the dose profile. This suggests that, under certain circumstances, intrinsic “dosimeters” could be more appropriate than conventional thin film dosimeters placed inside the material for dose measurements in electrically non-conducting materials.  相似文献

A 12 MeV linear accelerator is currently used for electron beam processing of power semiconductor devices for lifetime control and, on an experimental basis, for food irradiation, sludge treatment etc. In order to control the irradiation process a simple, quick and reliable method for a direct evaluation of dose and fluence in a broad electron beam has been developed. This paper presents the results obtained using a “charge collector” which measures the charge absorbed in a graphite target exposed in air. Calibration of the system with super-Fricke dosimeter and comparison of absorbed dose results obtained with plastic dosimeters and alanine pellets are discussed.  相似文献

The findings obtained in an extensive study of the radiation resistance of microbes forming the bioburden of a number of medical devices has been carried out by Takehisa et al. and reported in this number of this Journal. The following paper reviews the expected behaviour of the reported populations under the conditions specified in ISO Standard 11137 Method 1, which is widely used in the determination of the radiation sterilization dose required for sterilization of medical devices. The populations reported for “dry” devices contain a higher proportion of more radiation resistant microbes than that found in the standard distribution of resistance (SDR) that is used for setting the sterilization dose in Method 1. A possible alternative dose setting method for more resistant microbial populations is introduced and discussed.  相似文献

Dried almonds, raisins, dates and pistachio were irradiated using either gamma radiation or electron beam, at an average absorbed dose of 5 kGy. To detect the previous irradiation different parts of the dried fruits were analyzed by ESR spectroscopy: almonds: skin; raisins: dried pulp; dates: dried pulp and stone; pistachio: nutshell. Analyses were carried out 2–3 months and 6 months after irradiation. A series of signals tentatively described as “cellulose-like”, “sugar-like” and “complex” radical were observed, and some slight differences between spectra from samples irradiated with gamma rays and electrons were evident.  相似文献

A Technical Information Report, TIR 17, entitled, “Radiation Sterilization Material Qualification” has been published by the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) to provide guidance in order to increase the quality and reduce the cost and amount of time required for performing medical device material qualifications. It contains four sections that cover the fundamentals of material selection, processing, testing and accelerated aging programs. The last of these sections, entitled “Accelerating Aging Programs,” provides step-by-step guidance for simple, empirical accelerated programs of use to the medical device industry. The methods are based on van’t Hoff’s observation that the rate of chemical reactions increases by a factor of two for every 10°C increase in temperature, the Q10=2 rule.

With critical patient safety concerns in the medical device industry, it is appropriate for both device manufacturers and regulators to ask if simple, empirical methods such as those outlined in TIR 17 are reasonable and responsible. One reason for confidence in the methods is their success when used in aging environments that are much more severe than those commonly used in the medical device industry. Another reason for confidence in the methods is found from the observation that the working equations of the method can be derived from theory. This paper provides an overview of the thermal accelerated aging theory that forms the basis for the working equations of the accelerated aging programs of TIR 17. Assumptions used are examined and found reasonable; the theoretical foundation is established. While this foundation provides added confidence for the application of the methods of TIR 17 to the medical device industry, it is emphasized that application of the methods within appropriate boundaries is critical. Theoretical boundaries are explained and demonstrated by means of Arrhenius plots, and practical boundaries discussed.  相似文献

The relationship between the contract irradiation facility and the customer has historically been based upon a “PASS/FAIL” approach with little or no quality metrics used to gage the control of the irradiation process. Application of process control charts, designed in coordination with mathematical simulation of routine radiation processing, can provide a basis for understanding irradiation events. By using tools that simulate the physical rules associated with the irradiation process, end-users can explore process-related boundaries and the effects of process changes. Consequently, the relationship between contractor and customer can evolve based on the derived knowledge. The resulting level of mutual understanding of the irradiation process and its resultant control benefits both the customer and contract operation, and provides necessary assurances to regulators.

In this article we examine the complementary nature of theoretical (point kernel) and experimental (dosimetric) process evaluation, and the resulting by-product of improved understanding, communication and control generated through the implementation of effective process control charting strategies.  相似文献

The locality of underground water, contaminated with cyanides, has been successfully cleaned by using the hydraulic barrier method (assembly of pumped wells) since 1986. The average cyanide concentrations in the outflow exceeded 35 m per litre. Contamination had to be eliminated before the discharge into the sewer system. The radiation approach “in situ” i.e. decomposition of cyanides by barrier, was applied and is still being used today. The cyanide concentration was lowered more than one order of magnitude. This process was approved by the Czechoslovak radiation security authorities and further applications of “in Situ” regeneration of underground water contamination is anticipated.  相似文献

Degree of microbiological decontamination, organoleptic and physico-chemical properties of natural honeys were investigated after radiation treatment. Seven kinds of honeys were irradiated with the beams of 10 MeV electrons from a 10 kW linear accelerator “Elektronika 10-10” at the dose 10 kGy.

It was shown, that after irradiation, the total count of aerobic and anaerobic bacteria and moulds decrease by 99%. The antibiotic value in investigated honeys increased in turn from 1.67 to 2.67 after irradiation. Such factors and parameters of investigated honeys as their consistency, content of water and saccharose, acidity, the diastase and 5-HMF values were not changed significantly after irradiation.

Decontamination by irradiation is a process which allows us to obtain high microbiological purity of honeys. It is especially needed, when honeys are used in surgical treatment of injuries and in nutrition of babies with food deficiency.  相似文献

Polarised Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) external-reflection spectroscopy has been used to measure molecular orientation at the surface of uniaxially drawn poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) films as a function of draw ratio. The spectra, which were obtained using an FT-IR microscope operating in the reflectance mode, were of high signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio, and contained only the specular component of the reflected radiation. The dichroic ratio of the 1019 cm−1 ring stretching band was used to measure the PET orientation function, P200. Prior to quantifying band intensities, the reflectance spectra were either transformed using the Kramers-Kronig algorithm, or simply differentiated; it was found that the dichroic ratios obtained using either pretreatment were similar. It was shown that the P200 values obtained using the FT-IR method compared well with those obtained using surface refractive index measurements, provided that the intensity of the 1019 cm−1 band was normalised relative to a non-dichroic band in the spectrum prior to computing dichroic ratios. The use of a reflecting microscope to perform the analysis of surface orientation not only simplifies sample alignment compared with “macro” reflectance accessories, but also allows awkward-shaped or small samples to be examined with relative ease. Unfortunately, a significant current limitation is that samples must be sufficiently “optically thick” to prevent double-pass (“transflectance”) radiation reaching the detector and yielding non-specular features in the reflectance spectrum. For polyaromatics, this probably means thicknesses in excess of 50 μm to obtain good spectra in the fingerprint region. Polarised attenuated total reflectance microscopy may present an alternate approach for examining thinner films.  相似文献

It is well known that water plays a fundamental role for living beings, because the nature of water transformations provides for the ability to preserve biostructures. Solute can be classified as “kosmotropes” or “chaotropes” depending on the interaction strength with water. In the case of solutes destroying the natural hydrogen bonded network of water, called “kosmotropes” or “structure-makers”, the denaturation processes can be inhibited.

The aim of this work is to investigate the vibrational behaviour of maltose/H2O mixtures in order to characterise the changes induced by the sugar on the H2O hydrogen-bonded network. The obtained findings point out that maltose has a destructuring effect on the water tetrahedral network and emphasise its kosmotrope character.  相似文献
