An inclined spray chamber with four multiple nozzles to cool a 1 kW 6U electronic test card has been designed and tested in this study. The multiple inclined sprays can cover the same heated surface area as that with the multiple normal sprays but halve the volume of the spray chamber. The spray cooling system used R134a as a working fluid in a modified refrigeration cycle. It is observed that increasing mass flow rate and pressure drop across the nozzles improved the heat transfer coefficient with a maximum enhancement of 117 %, and reduced the maximum temperature difference at the heated surface from 13.8 to 8.4 °C in the inclined spray chamber with a heat flux of 5.25 W/cm2, while the heat transfer coefficient of the normal spray increased with a maximum enhancement of 215 % and the maximum temperature difference decreased from 10.8 to 5.4 °C under similar operating conditions. We conclude that the multiple inclined sprays could produce a higher heat transfer coefficient but with an increase in non-uniformity of the surface temperature compared with the multiple normal sprays.  相似文献

Thin-film technology has been used to measure the heat transfer coefficient and cooling effectiveness over heavily film cooled nozzle guide vanes (NGVs). The measurements were performed in a transonic annular cascade which has a wide operating range and simulates the flow in the gas turbine jet engine. Engine-representative Mach and Reynolds numbers were employed and the upstream free-stream turbulence intensity was 13%. The aerodynamic and thermodynamic characteristics of the coolant flow (momentum flux and density ratio between the coolant and mainstream) have been modelled to represent engine conditions by using a foreign gas mixture of SF6 and Argon. Engine-level values of heat transfer coefficient and cooling effectiveness have been obtained by correcting for the different molecular (thermal) properties of the gases used in the engine-simulated experiments to those which exist in the true engine environment. This paper presents the best combined heat transfer coefficient and effectiveness data currently available for a fully cooled, three-dimensional NGVs at engine conditions.  相似文献

Shock formation due to flow compressibility and its interaction with boundary layers has adverse effects on aerodynamic characteristics, such as drag increase and flow separation. The objective of this paper is to appraise the prac-ticability of weakening shock waves and, hence, reducing the wave drag in transonic flight regime using a two-dimensional jagged wall and thereby to gain an appropriate jagged wall shape for future empirical study. Different shapes of the jagged wall, including rectangular, circular, and triangular shapes, were employed. The numerical method was validated by experimental and numerical studies involving transonic flow over the NACA0012 airfoil, and the results presented here closely match previous experimental and numerical results. The impact of parameters, including shape and the length-to-spacing ratio of a jagged wall, was studied on aerodynamic forces and flow field. The results revealed that applying a jagged wall method on the upper surface of an airfoil changes the shock structure significantly and disinte-grates it, which in turn leads to a decrease in wave drag. It was also found that the maximum drag coefficient decrease of around 17%occurs with a triangular shape, while the max-imum increase in aerodynamic efficiency (lift-to-drag ratio) of around 10%happens with a rectangular shape at an angle of attack of 2.26?.  相似文献

The calculation models of the equivalent convection coefficient between blast furnace gas flow and the hot surface of stave body, gas flow and in-laid brick were established by the combination of experiments and numerical calculation when the gas temperature is in the range of 505–1,248°C. The reason why the heat transfer coefficient between gas flow and in-laid brick is much more than that between gas and stave body was analyzed when the gas temperature is high. The opinion just to considering a kind of integration heat transfer coefficient while the numerical calculation of heat transfer model of stave will be changed. The division of above two heat transfer coefficients will increase the degree of heat transfer numerical calculation.  相似文献

Unsteady transonic flow past a two-dimensional airfoil with heat and momentum addition is numerically investigated. The flow analysis is based on the solution of the unsteady Reynolds equations closed by the k-ω SST turbulence model. The equations are integrated using the finite volume method. Several positions and shapes of the heat and momentum addition zones are considered for the purpose of determining an optimal means for controlling buffet. It is established that the most considerable variations in the buffet parameters are achieved when heat addition and mechanical action are realized on the upper wing surface. The thermal energy supply always increases the buffet frequency, while the mechanical action can both increase and reduce it.  相似文献

A shock control bump (SCB) is a flow control method that uses local small deformations in a flexible wing surface to considerably reduce the strength of shock waves and the resulting wave drag in transonic flows. Most of the reported research is devoted to optimization in a single flow condition. Here, we have used a multi-point adjoint optimization scheme to optimize shape and location of the SCB. Practically, this introduces transonic airfoils equipped with the SCB that are simultaneously optimized for different off-design transonic flight conditions. Here, we use this optimization algorithm to enhance and optimize the performance of SCBs in two benchmark airfoils, i.e., RAE-2822 and NACA-64-A010, over a wide range of off-design Mach numbers. All results are compared with the usual single-point optimization. We use numerical simulation of the turbulent viscous flow and a gradient-based adjoint algorithm to find the optimum location and shape of the SCB. We show that the application of SCBs may increase the aerodynamic performance of an RAE-2822 airfoil by 21.9 and by 22.8 % for a NACA-64-A010 airfoil compared to the no-bump design in a particular flight condition. We have also investigated the simultaneous usage of two bumps for the upper and the lower surfaces of the airfoil. This has resulted in a 26.1 % improvement for the RAE-2822 compared to the clean airfoil in one flight condition.  相似文献

Micro Air Vehicles (MAVs) can be difficult to control in the outdoor environment as they fly at relatively low speeds and are of low mass, yet exposed to high levels of freestream turbulence present within the Atmospheric Boundary Layer. In order to examine transient flow phenomena, two turbulence conditions of nominally the same longitudinal integral length scale (Lxx/c?=?1) but with significantly different intensities (Ti?=?7.2?% and 12.3?%) were generated within a wind tunnel; time-varying surface pressure measurements, smoke flow visualization, and wake velocity measurements were made on a thin flat plate airfoil. Rapid changes in oncoming flow pitch angle resulted in the shear layer to separate from the leading edge of the airfoil even at lower geometric angles of attack. At higher geometric angles of attack, massive flow separation occurred at the leading edge followed by enhanced roll up of the shear layer. This lead to the formation of large Leading Edge Vortices (LEVs) that advected at a rate much lower than the mean flow speed while imparting high pressure fluctuations over the airfoil. The rate of LEV formation was dependent on the angle of attack until 10° and it was independent of the turbulence properties tested. The fluctuations in surface pressures and consequently aerodynamic loads were considerably limited on the airfoil bottom surface due to the favorable pressure gradient.  相似文献

A high-order low dissipative numerical framework is discussed to tackle simultaneously the modeling of unresolved sub-grid scale flow turbulence and the capturing of shock waves. The flows around two different airfoil profiles are simulated using a Spectral Difference discretisation scheme. First, a transitional, almost incompressible, low Reynolds number flow over a Selig-Donovan 7003 airfoil. Second, a high Reynolds number flow over a RAE2822 airfoil under transonic conditions. These flows feature both laminar and turbulent flow physics and are thus particularly challenging for turbulence sub-grid scale modeling. The accuracy of the recently developed Spectral Element Dynamic Model, specifically capable of detecting spatial under-resolution in high-order flow simulations, is evaluated. Concerning the test in transonic conditions, the additional complexity due to the presence of shock waves has been handled using an artificial viscosity shock-capturing technique based on bulk viscosity. To mitigate the impact of the shock-capturing on turbulence dissipation, it was necessary to combine the high-order modal-type shock detection with a usual sensor measuring the local flow compressibility.

Nucleate pool boiling experiments for binary mixtures, which are consisted of R11 and R113, were performed with constant wall temperature condition. Results for binary mixtures were also compared with pure fluids. A microscale heater array and Wheatstone bridge circuits were used to maintain the constant temperature of the heating surface and to obtain heat flow rate measurements with high temporal and spatial resolutions. Bubble growth images were captured using a high-speed CCD camera synchronized with the heat flow rate measurements. The departure time for binary mixtures was longer than that for pure fluids, and binary mixtures had a higher onset of nucleate boiling (ONB) temperature than pure fluids. In the asymptotic growth region, the bubble growth rate was proportional to a value between t1/6 and t1/4. The bubble growth behavior was analyzed to permit comparisons with binary mixtures and pure fluids at the same scale using dimensionless parameters. There was no discernible difference in the bubble growth behavior between binary mixtures and pure fluids for a given ONB temperature. And the departure radius and time were well predicted within a ±30% error. The minimum heat transfer coefficient of binary mixtures occurred near the maximum |yx| value, and the average required heat flux during bubble growth did not depend on the mass fraction of R11 as more volatile component in binary mixtures. Finally, the results showed that for binary mixtures, a higher ONB temperature had the greatest effect on reducing the heat transfer coefficient.  相似文献

In transonic flow conditions, the shock wave/turbulent boundary layer interaction and flow separations on wing upper surface induce flow instabilities, ‘buffet’, and then the buffeting (structure vibrations). This phenomenon can greatly influence the aerodynamic performance. These flow excitations are self‐sustained and lead to a surface effort due to pressure fluctuations. They can produce enough energy to excite the structure. The objective of the present work is to predict this unsteady phenomenon correctly by using unsteady Navier–Stokes‐averaged equations with a time‐dependent turbulence model based on the suitable (kε) turbulent eddy viscosity model. The model used is based on the turbulent viscosity concept where the turbulent viscosity coefficient () is related to local deformation and rotation rates. To validate this model, flow over a flat plate at Mach number of 0.6 is first computed, then the flow around a NACA0012 airfoil. The comparison with the analytical and experimental results shows a good agreement. The ONERA OAT15A transonic airfoil was chosen to describe buffeting phenomena. Numerical simulations are done by using a Navier–Stokes SUPG (streamline upwind Petrov–Galerkin) finite‐element solver. Computational results show the ability of the present model to predict physical phenomena of the flow oscillations. The unsteady shock wave/boundary layer interaction is described. The over-tip casing of the high-pressure turbine in a modern gas turbine engine is subjected to strong convective heat transfer that can lead to thermally induced failure (burnout) of this component. However, the complicated flow physics in this region is dominated by the close proximity of the moving turbine blades, which gives rise to significant temporal variations at the blade-passing frequency. The understanding of the physical processes that control the casing metal temperature is still limited and this fact has significant implications for the turbine design strategy. A series of experiments has been performed that seeks to address some of these important issues. This article reports the measurements of time-mean heat transfer and time-mean static pressure that have been made on the over-tip casing of a transonic axial-flow turbine operating at flow conditions that are representative of those found in modern gas turbine engines. Time-resolved measurements of these flow variables (that reveal the details of the blade-tip/casing interaction physics) are presented in a companion paper. The nozzle guide vane exit flow conditions in these experiments were a Mach number of 0.93 and a Reynolds number of 2.7 × 106 based on nozzle guide vane mid-height axial chord. The axial and circumferential distributions of heat transfer rate, adiabatic wall temperature, Nusselt number and static pressure are presented. The data reveal large axial variations in the wall heat flux and adiabatic wall temperature that are shown to be primarily associated with the reduction in flow stagnation temperature through the blade row. The heat flux falls by a factor of 6 (from 120 to 20 kW/m2). In contrast, the Nusselt number falls by just 36% between the rotor inlet plane and 80% rotor axial chord; additionally, this drop is near to linear from 20% to 80% rotor axial chord. The circumferential variations in heat transfer rate are small, implying that the nozzle guide vanes do not produce a strong variation in casing boundary layer properties in the region measured. The casing static pressure measurements follow trends that can be expected from the blade loading distribution, with maximum values immediately upstream of the rotor inlet plane, and then a decreasing trend with axial position as the flow is turned and accelerated in the relative frame of reference. The time-mean static pressure measurements on the casing wall also reveal distinct circumferential variations that are small in comparison to the large pressure gradient in the axial direction.  相似文献

The results of a systematic experimental study of the flow turbulence level effect on the heat transfer and Reynolds analogy coefficients over a wide range of the relevant parameters (the turbulence intensity and scale and the Reynolds number) are presented. The notion of the equivalent flow turbulence, which unifies the above-mentioned parameters, is introduced. It is established that the skin friction and heat transfer coefficients increase with the equivalent turbulence, while the Reynolds analogy coefficient remains unchanged. Moscow. A method is developed to capture the distribution of surface temperature while simultaneously imaging the bubble motions in diabatic flow boiling in a horizontal minichannel. Liquid crystal thermography is used to obtain highly resolved surface temperature measurements on the uniformly heated upper surface of the channel. High-speed images of the flow field are acquired simultaneously and are overlaid with the thermal images. The local surface temperature and heat transfer coefficient can be analyzed with the knowledge of the nucleation site density and location, and bubble motion and size evolution. The horizontal channel is 1.2 mm high × 23 mm wide × 357 mm long, and the working fluids are Novec 649 and R-11. Optical access is through a machined glass plate which forms the bottom of the channel. The top surface is an electrically heated 76 μm-thick Hastelloy foil held in place by a water-cooled aluminum and glass frame. The heat loss resulting from this construction is computed using a conduction model in Fluent. The model is driven by temperature measurements on the foil, glass plate and aluminum frame. This model produces a corrected value for the local surface heat flux and enables the computation of the bulk fluid temperature and heat transfer coefficient along the channel. The streamwise evolution of the heat transfer coefficient for single-phase laminar flow is compared to theoretical values for a uniform-flux boundary condition. Examples of the use of the facility for visualizing subcooled two-phase flows are presented. These examples include measurements of the surface temperature distribution around active nucleation sites and the construction of boiling curves for locations along the test surface. Points on the curve can be associated with specific image sequences so that the role of mechanisms such as nucleation and the sliding of confined bubbles may be discerned.  相似文献

This paper gives systematic study on the process of ice layer accretion, especially the mass and energy transfer between two-phase distribution (air and water droplet) and icing build-up region along the surface of airfoil. Based on the theory of momentum and thermal boundary layer, the governing equations are constituted by considering the conservation of mass and energy in each control volume which is equivalent to the grid cell in fact. The finite volume method is used to discrete the control equations and then the calculations for convective heat transfer coefficient and ice shape are accomplished successfully. During the icing computation, the heat transfer characteristics are updated timely after every time step using multi-time step algorithm. In order to verify reliability of this method mentioned above, some results are compared to the ones from LEWICE software and experiment. At last, the effects of several key parameters on heat transfer coefficient and ice shape are presented in this paper using the model of NACA 4412 airfoil, and these factors include free-stream velocity, static temperature, angle of attack and the roughness height of surface.  相似文献

Local convective heat transfer coefficients to a number of modern gas turbine blade sections have been measured under a wide range of mainstream conditions, from notionally steady flows to highly perturbed turbulent flows. The paper discusses the results and, through a detailed analysis of the pertinent boundary layer flow parameters and their relation to the observed experimental results, tests criteria for the occurrence of transition from laminar to turbulent boundary layers, a factor which all the data from this work confirm as critical in predicting the quantitative effects of mainstream turbulence on heat transfer rates. Artificially induced mainstream turbulence, which is endemic in the flows in a real turbine, enhances significantly the heat transfer rates, especially to the leading edge regions and on the pressure surface, particularly when the acceleration is tending to suppress transition. The results presented here confirm existing criteria for laminarisation and the applicability of some of those available for predicting laminar-turbulent transition. The observations also demonstrate how surface geometry can influence the stability of the flows, and the uncertainties which remain in assessing the effect of Goertler vortices and their role in the convective heat transfer process.  相似文献

The results of an experimental investigation of the heat transfer coefficients for forced convection from a NACA-63421 airfoil are presented. Wind tunnel measurements of convection coefficients are obtained for air flow temperatures from −30 to 20 °C. The experimental data is correlated with respect to the Nusselt and Reynolds numbers. Conduction within the airfoil balances heat transfer by convection from the airfoil surface in steady-state conditions. Both average and spatial variations of the heat transfer coefficients are non-dimensionalized through modifications of a classical Hilpert correlation for cylinders in crossflow. It is shown that the functional form of the Hilpert correlation can effectively accommodate measured data for the NACA airfoil over a range of Reynolds numbers. An uncertainty analysis is performed to yield a 7.34% measurement uncertainty for experimental data correlated with the Nusselt number.  相似文献

The effect of background flow oscillations on transonic airfoil (NACA 0012) flow was investigated experimentally. The oscillations were generated by means of a rotating plate placed downstream of the airfoil. Owing to oscillating chocking of the flow caused by the plate, the airfoil flow periodically accelerated and decelerated. This led to strong variations in the surface pressure and the airfoil loading. The results are presented for two angles of attack, α=4° and α=8.5°, which correspond to the attached and separated steady airfoil flows, respectively. In order to solve compressible turbulent flow problems, this study focuses on incorporating the Spalart–Allmaras turbulence model into gas‐kinetic BGK (Bhatnagar–Gross–Krook) scheme. The Spalart–Allmaras turbulence model is solved using finite difference discretization. The variables on the cell interface are interpolated via the van Leer limiter in the reconstruction stage. Simulation of subsonic and transonic flow over a NACA0012 airfoil has been implemented using two‐dimensional body‐fitted grids. The numerical results obtained appear in good agreement with the AGARD results, demonstrating the effectiveness and usefulness of the strategy of coupling the Spalart–Allmaras turbulence model with the BGK scheme for compressible turbulent flow simulation. This article reports the measurements of time-resolved heat transfer rate and time-resolved static pressure that have been made on the over-tip casing of a transonic axial-flow turbine operating at flow conditions that are representative of those found in modern gas turbine engines. This data is discussed and analysed in the context of explaining the physical mechanisms that influence the casing heat flux. The physical size of the measurement domain was one nozzle guide vane-pitch and from −20% to +80% rotor axial chord. Additionally, measurements of the time-resolved adiabatic wall temperature are presented. The time-mean data from the same set of experiments is presented and discussed in Part I of this article. The nozzle guide vane exit flow conditions in these experiments were a Mach number of 0.93 and a Reynolds number of 2.7 × 106 based on nozzle guide vane mid-height axial chord. The data reveal large temporal variations in heat transfer characteristics to the casing wall that are associated with blade-tip passing events and in particular the blade over-tip leakage flow. The highest instantaneous heat flux to the casing wall occurs within the blade-tip gap, and this has been found to be caused by a combination of increasing flow temperature and heat transfer coefficient. The time-resolved static pressure measurements have enabled a detailed understanding of the tip-leakage aerodynamics to be established, and the physical mechanisms influencing the casing heat load have been determined. In particular, this has focused on the role of the unsteady blade lift distribution that is produced by upstream vane effects. This has been seen to modulate the tip-leakage flow and cause subsequent variations in casing heat flux. The novel experimental techniques employed in these experiments have allowed the measurement of the time-resolved adiabatic wall temperature on the casing wall. These data clearly show the falling flow temperatures as work is extracted from the gas by the turbine. Additionally, these temperature measurements have revealed that the absolute stagnation temperature within the tip-gap flow can be above the turbine inlet total temperature, and indicates the presence of a work process that leads to high adiabatic wall temperatures as a blade-tip passes a point on the casing wall. It is shown that this phenomena can be explained by consideration of the flow vectors within the tip-gap, and that these in turn are related to the local blade loading distribution. The paper also assesses the relative importance of different time-varying phenomena to the casing heat load distribution. This analysis has indicated that up to half of the casing heat load is associated with the over-tip leakage flow. Finally, the implications of the experimental findings are discussed in relation to future shroudless turbine design, and in particular the importance of accounting for the high heat fluxes found within the tip-gap.  相似文献
