We study a class of two-dimensional spin-1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnets, introduced by Klein [1], in which the nearest-neighbor term is supplemented by next-nearest-neighbor pair and four-body interactions, producing additional frustration. For certain lattices, including e.g. the hexagonal lattice, we prove that any finite subset which admits a dimer covering has a ground state space spanned by valence bond states, each of which consists only of nearest-neighbor (dimer) singlet pairs. We also establish linear independence of these valence bond states. The possible relevance to resonating-valence-bond theories of high-temperature superconductors is briefly discussed. In particular, our results apply both to regular subsets of the lattice and to subsets with static holes.Work supported in part by N.S.F. Postdoctoral Research FellowshipsWork supported by N.S.F. We use a quantum Monte Carlo method (stochastic series expansion) to study the effects of a magnetic or nonmagnetic impurity on the magnetic susceptibility of the two-dimensional Heisenberg antiferromagnet. At low temperatures, we find a log-divergent contribution to the transverse susceptibility. We also introduce an effective few-spin model that can quantitatively capture the differences between magnetic and nonmagnetic impurities at high and intermediate temperatures. 相似文献

We report a neutron scattering study of the instantaneous spin correlations in the two-dimensional spin S
=5/2 square-lattice Heisenberg antiferromagnet Rb2MnF4. The measured correlation lengths are quantitatively described, with no adjustable parameters, by high-temperature series
expansion results and by a theory based on the quantum self-consistent harmonic approximation. Conversely, we find that the
data, which cover the range from about 1 to 50 lattice constants, are outside of the regime corresponding to renormalized
classical behavior of the quantum non-linear model. In addition, we observe a crossover from Heisenberg to Ising critical behavior near the Néel temperature; this crossover
is well described by a mean-field model with no adjustable parameters.

A gauge theory of the spin-
Heisenberg antiferromagnet (HA) on a two-dimensional square lattice is developed, which is based on the diagonal GD of the group product SO(3)×SU(2). For classical gauge fields GD is homeomorphic to SO(3). The structure of the theory is such that the quantum spin-
field propagates on the background gauge field. For special gauges the excitations of the spin-field are computed and compared to the excitations of the O(3) σ model for the same gauge. The significance of negative excitational modes with respect to a semiclassical actionГsc of the spin-
HA is discussed. Some properties ofГsc represented as a chiral SO(3) model in a continuum representation are worked out. 相似文献

The ground state and the lowest excited states of the spin 1/2-Heisenberg model are investigated by exact diagonalization and variational Monte Carlo techniques. Our trial state represents a generalization of a wave function introduced by Hulthen, Kasteleijn and Marshall. The long range character of the spin-correlation function is in excellent agreement with exact diagonalization and also with recent neutron scattering results for La2CuO4. The asymptotic behavior of the spin-correlation function is found to differ from spin-wave theory. From the exact (N<=20 spins) and variational (N<=400) ground state energies we determine as asymptotic values 1.3025 and 1.288, respectively. We calculate the dispersion for the spin-wave excitations and identify an excited triplet which becomes degenerate with the ground state in the thermodynamic limit. This triplet state allows spontaneous symmetry breaking to occur atT=0 K. Quantum fluctuations reduce the sublattice magnetization to an effective value of 0.195 (3) as compared to the Néel-state value of 1/2. 相似文献

In this work we study the critical behavior of the quantum spin-1/2 anisotropic Heisenberg antiferromagnet in the presence of a longitudinal field on a body centered cubic (bcc) lattice as a function of temperature, anisotropy parameter (Δ) and magnetic field (H ), where Δ=0 and 1 correspond the isotropic Heisenberg and Ising models, respectively. We use the framework of the differential operator technique in the effective-field theory with finite cluster of N =4 spins (EFT-4). The staggered ms=(mA−mB)/2 and total m=(mA+mB)/2 magnetizations are numerically calculated, where in the limit of ms→0 the critical line TN(H,Δ) is obtained. The phase diagram in the T−H plane is discussed as a function of the parameter Δ for all values of H∈[0,Hc(Δ)], where Hc(Δ) correspond the critical field (TN=0). Special focus is given in the low temperature region, where a reentrant behavior is observed around of H=Hc(Δ)≥Hc(Δ=1)=8J in the Ising limit, results in accordance with Monte Carlo simulation, and also was observed for all values of Δ∈[0,1]. This reentrant behavior increases with increase of the anisotropy parameter Δ. In the limit of low field, our results for the Heisenberg limit are compared with series expansion values. 相似文献

In this paper, we use a new hybrid method to compute the thermodynamic behavior of the spin- 1 / 2 Kagome antiferromagnet under the influence of a large external magnetic field. We find a T2 low-temperature behavior and a very low sensitivity of the specific heat to a strong external magnetic field. We display clear evidence that this low-temperature magnetothermal effect is associated with the existence of low-lying fluctuating singlets, but also that the whole picture ( T2 behavior of C(v) and the thermally activated spin susceptibility) implies contribution of both nonmagnetic and magnetic excitations. Comparison with experiments is made. 相似文献

In this paper we study the low temperature behavior of the quantum S=1 Heisenberg antiferromagnet with exchange and single-site anisotropies on the square lattice. The properties of the model change drastically as the single-site anisotropy D varies from very small to very large values. A quantum phase transition takes place at a critical value D=DC. We study the low D phase using a self-consistent harmonic approximation and a schematic phase diagram is proposed. 相似文献

A consistent Schwinger-boson mean field theory is developed for a spin-1/2 2D antiferromagnet. It predicts that there are two branches of the Schwinger-boson excitation spectrum: an acoustic branch, essentially the same as that predicted by Arovas and Auerbach theory, and a new optical branch. The present theory provides a natural explanation of the mystery of the Raman two magon scattering from La2CuO4. 相似文献

The bipartite entanglement of the two- and three-spin Heisenberg model was investigated by using the concept of negativity. It is found that for the ground-state entanglement of the two-spin model, the negativity always decreases as B increases if Δ<γ-1, and it may keep a steady value of 0.5 in the region of B2-γ2]1/2 if Δ>γ-1, while for that of the three-spin model, the negativity exhibits square wave structures if γ=0 or Δ=0. For thermal states, there are two areas showing entanglement, namely, the main region and the sub-region. The main region exists only when Δ>Δc (Δc=γ-1 and (γ2-1)/2 for the 2- and 3-spin model respectively) and extends in terms of B and T as Δ increases, while the sub-region survives only when γ≠0 and shrinks in terms of B and T as Δ increases. 相似文献

The magnetic properties of a mixed spin-1 and spin-3/2 Heisenberg ferrimagnetic system on a square lattice are investigated by using the double-time temperature-dependent Green's function technique. In order to decouple the higher order Green's functions, Anderson and Callen's decoupling and random phase approximations have been used. The nearest- and next-nearest-neighbor interactions and the single-ion anisotropies are considered and their effects on compensation and critical temperature are studied. 相似文献
