By introducing an inner product on the linear space of real valued functions on a finite partial order, broad generalizations of Sperner's lemma are obtained. In the special case of a power set, the subspace spanned by the maximal chains is characterized. Finally, applications of the general theorem to the theory of numbers and to the theory of probability are given without proof.  相似文献

Let be a group definable in an o-minimal structure . A subset of is -definable if is definable in the structure (while definable means definable in the structure ). Assume has no -definable proper subgroup of finite index. In this paper we prove that if has no nontrivial abelian normal subgroup, then is the direct product of -definable subgroups such that each is definably isomorphic to a semialgebraic linear group over a definable real closed field. As a corollary we obtain an o-minimal analogue of Cherlin's conjecture.

A well-formed ordered space is a totally ordered set equipped with any topology which possesses a subbase consisting entirely of initial and final segments of the set. The well-formed ordered spaces are the structures obtained by repeatedly taking subspaces, quotient spaces and inverse limits, starting from a collection of totally ordered sets with the interval topology, and the paper studies their properties.  相似文献

In a totally real number field, every totally positive integral number is a finite sum of (additively) indecomposable totally positive integral numbers, and up to multiplication by totally positive units, there exist only finitely many indecomposables. In the paper it is shown that in quadratic fields all these numbers can be listed in a very efficient way by using the so-called intermediate convergents of a certain quadratic irrationality. The method can be viewed as a simple extension of the standard method of calculating the fundamental unit by using continued fractions. As an application it is shown that for instance in Z|√d| a number is decomposable if its norm is >d. It is remarkable that this bound does not depend on the size of the fundamental unit.  相似文献

A decomposition theory for partial orders which arises from the split decomposition of submodular functions is introduced. As a consequence of this theory, any partial order has a unique decomposition consisting of indecomposable partial orders and certain highly decomposable partial orders. The highly decomposable partial orders are completely characterized. As a special case of partial orders, we consider lattices and distributive lattices. It occurs, that the highly decomposable distributive lattices are precisely the Boolean lattices.  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to study the properties of measures on a totally ordered spaceX. It is shown that if the cardinal of every closed discrete subset ofX is of measure zero then every non-atomic measure onX is τ-additive. It is also proved that a continuous Borel measure μ onX is Radon if and only if μ is perfect, τ-additive and the support of μ is almost a totally ordered space.

Cellular covers of groups, and in particular, those of divisible abelian groups, were studied in [FARJOUN, E. D.—GÖBEL, R.—SEGEV, Y.: Cellular covers of groups, J. Pure Appl. Algebra 208, (2007), 61–76], [CHA-CHÓLSKI, W.—FARJOUN, E. D.—GÖBEL, R.—SEGEV, Y.: Cellular covers of divisible abelian groups. In: Contemp. Math. 504, Amer. Math. Soc., Providence, RI, 2009, pp. 77–97], and continued in [FUCHS, L.—GÖBEL, R.: Cellular covers of abelian groups, Results Math. 53, (2009), 59–76] for abelian groups in general. In this note we are investigating cellular covers in the category of totally ordered abelian groups (called o-cellular covers; for definition see Section 2). Some results are similar to those on torsion-free abelian groups (unordered), while others are completely different. For instance, though kernels of o-cellular covers can not be non-zero divisible groups (Lemma 3.1), they may contain non-zero divisible subgroups (Example 3.2); however, the divisible part can not be much larger than the reduced part (Theorem 3.4). There are o-groups, even among the additive subgroups of the rationals, whose o-cellular covers form a proper class (Theorem 4.3).  相似文献

This paper concerns the embedding problem for partial totally symmetric quasigroups. We consider partially ordered models. We introduce the notions of a weakly (quasi-)p.o.-minimal model and a weakly (quasi-)p.o.-minimal theory. We prove that weakly quasi-p.o.-minimal theories of finite width lack the independence property, weakly p.o.-minimal directed groups are Abelian and divisible, weakly quasi-p.o.-minimal directed groups with unique roots are Abelian, and the direct product of a finite family of weakly p.o.-minimal models is a weakly p.o.-minimal model. We obtain results on existence of small extensions of models of weakly quasi-p.o.-minimal atomic theories. In particular, for such a theory of finite length, we find an upper estimate of the Hanf number for omitting a family of pure types. We also find an upper bound for the cardinalities of weakly quasi-p.o.-minimal absolutely homogeneous models of moderate width.  相似文献

We study problems concerning the existence of additive utility funtions defined on totally ordered semigroups. The existence of an additive utility function on a semigroup is characterized by means of conditions that are similar, but not equivalent, to Archimedeaness. This fact is used to analyze the existence of utility representations (not necessarily additive) on totally ordered Abelian groups. In this direction, we show that the positive cone of a representable totally ordered Abelian group admits a countable partition into Archimedean semigroups. All the semigroups in that partition are representable by means of a utility function, but at most one is additively representable. Communicated by M. W. Mislove  相似文献

We establish some inequalities connecting natural parameters of a partial order P.
