This paper investigates a model of decision making under uncertainty comprising opposite epistemic states of complete ignorance and probability. In the first part, a new utility theory under complete ignorance is developed that combines Hurwicz–Arrow's theory of decision under ignorance with Anscombe–Aumann's idea of reversibility and monotonicity used to characterize subjective probability. The main result is a representation theorem for preference under ignorance by a particular one-parameter function – the τ-anchor utility function. In the second part, we study decision making under uncertainty comprising an ignorant variable and a probabilistic variable. We show that even if the variables are independent, they are not reversible in Anscombe–Aumann's sense. This insight leads to the development of a new proposal for decision under uncertainty represented by a preference relation that satisfies the weak order and monotonicity assumptions but rejects the reversibility assumption. A distinctive feature of the new proposal is that the certainty equivalent of a mapping from the state space of uncertain variables to the prize space depends on the order in which the variables are revealed. Explicit modeling of the order of variables explains some of the puzzles in multiple-prior model and the models for decision making with Dempster–Shafer belief function.  相似文献

Partially consonant belief functions (pcb), studied by Walley, are the only class of Dempster-Shafer belief functions that are consistent with the likelihood principle of statistics. Structurally, the set of foci of a pcb is partitioned into non-overlapping groups and within each group, foci are nested. The pcb class includes both probability function and Zadeh’s possibility function as special cases. This paper studies decision making under uncertainty described by pcb. We prove a representation theorem for preference relation over pcb lotteries to satisfy an axiomatic system that is similar in spirit to von Neumann and Morgenstern’s axioms of the linear utility theory. The closed-form expression of utility of a pcb lottery is a combination of linear utility for probabilistic lottery and two-component (binary) utility for possibilistic lottery. In our model, the uncertainty information, risk attitude and ambiguity attitude are separately represented. A tractable technique to extract ambiguity attitude from a decision maker behavior is also discussed.  相似文献

Graphical models are efficient and simple ways to represent dependencies between variables. We introduce in this paper the so-called belief causal networks where dependencies are uncertain causal links and where the uncertainty is represented by belief masses. Through these networks, we propose to represent the results of passively observing the spontaneous behavior of the system and also evaluate the effects of external actions. Interventions are very useful for representing causal relations, we propose to compute their effects using a generalization of the “do” operator. Even if the belief chain rule is different from the Bayesian chain rule, we show that the joint distributions of the altered structures to graphically describe interventions are equivalent. This paper also addresses new issues that are arisen when handling interventions: we argue that in real world applications, external manipulations may be imprecise and show that they have a natural encoding under the belief function framework.  相似文献

We develop a method for clustering all types of belief functions, in particular non-consonant belief functions. Such clustering is done when the belief functions concern multiple events, and all belief functions are mixed up. Clustering is performed by decomposing all belief functions into simple support and inverse simple support functions that are clustered based on their pairwise generalized weights of conflict, constrained by weights of attraction assigned to keep track of all decompositions. The generalized conflict c(-,) and generalized weight of conflict J-(-,) are derived in the combination of simple support and inverse simple support functions.  相似文献

The subject of this paper is the formulation and discussion of a semi-infinite linear vector optimization problem which extends multiple objective linear programming problems to those with an infinite number of objective functions and constraints. Furthermore it generalizes in some way semi-infinite programming. Besides the statement of some immediately derived results which are related to known results in semi-infinite linear programming and vector optimization, the problem mentioned above is interpreted as a decision model, under risk or uncertainty containing continuous random variables. Thus we treat the case of an infinite number of occuring states of nature. These types of problems frequently occur within aspects of decision theory in management science.  相似文献

We address in this paper the problem of defining belief functions, typically for multi-source classification applications in image processing. We propose to use mathematical morphology for introducing imprecision in the mass and belief functions while estimating disjunctions of hypotheses. The basic idea relies on the similarity between some properties of morphological operators and properties of belief functions. The framework of mathematical morphology guarantees that the derived functions have all required properties. We illustrate the proposed approach on synthetic and real images.  相似文献

We consider the ranking of decision alternatives in decision analysis problems under uncertainty, under very weak assumptions about the type of utility function and information about the probabilities of the states of nature. Namely, the following two assumptions are required for the suggested method: the utility function is in the class of increasing continuous functions, and the probabilities of the states of nature are rank-ordered. We develop a simple analytical method for the partial ranking of decision alternatives under the stated assumptions. This method does not require solving optimization programs and is free of the rounding errors.  相似文献

We consider here the case where our knowledge is partial and based on a betting density function which is n-dimensional Gaussian. The explicit formulation of the least committed basic belief density (bbd) of the multivariate Gaussian pdf is provided in the transferable belief model (TBM) framework. Beliefs are then assigned to hyperspheres and the bbd follows a χ2 distribution. Two applications are also presented. The first one deals with model based classification in the joint speed–acceleration feature space. The second is devoted to joint target tracking and classification: the tracking part is performed using a Rao–Blackwellized particle filter, while the classification is carried out within the developed TBM scheme.  相似文献

Given a parametric statistical model, evidential methods of statistical inference aim at constructing a belief function on the parameter space from observations. The two main approaches are Dempster's method, which regards the observed variable as a function of the parameter and an auxiliary variable with known probability distribution, and the likelihood-based approach, which considers the relative likelihood as the contour function of a consonant belief function. In this paper, we revisit the latter approach and prove that it can be derived from three basic principles: the likelihood principle, compatibility with Bayes' rule and the minimal commitment principle. We then show how this method can be extended to handle low-quality data. Two cases are considered: observations that are only partially relevant to the population of interest, and data acquired through an imperfect observation process.  相似文献

In this paper, we examine the manipulability properties of social decision rules which select a non-empty subset of the set of alternatives. Assuming that if an individual prefers x to y, then he prefers the outcome set {x, y} to {y}, and also {x} to {x, y}, we show that a wide class of scf's which allow ties even in pairwise choice violates one of the weakest notions of strategyproofness — a single individual can profitably misrepresent his preferences, even when he takes into account the possibility of countercoalitions. This class of scf's also violates exact consistency — no equilibrium situation gives the same outcome set as the ‘true profile’.  相似文献

In this paper, a general autoregressive model with Markov switching is considered, where the autoregression may be of an infinite order. The consistency of the maximum likelihood estimators for this model is obtained under regularity assumptions. Examples of finite and infinite order autoregressive models with Markov switching are discussed. Simulation studies with these examples illustrate the consistency and asymptotic normality of the estimators.   相似文献

This paper proposes a sequential approach to determine the unknown parameters for inverse heat conduction problems which have multiple time-dependent heat sources. There are two main aims in this study, one is to derive an inverse algorithm that can estimate the unknown conditions effectively, and the other is to bring up a theoretical sensitivity analysis to discuss what causes the growth of errors. This paper has three major achievements with regard to the literature on IHCPs, as follows: (1) proposing an efficient sequential inverse algorithm that can simultaneously determine several unknown time-dependent parameters; (2) exploring why the sequential function specification method can provide a stable but inaccurate estimation when tackling problems with larger measurement errors; and (3) discussing the sensitivity problem and analyzing what factors cause the growth in error sensitivity. Three examples are applied to demonstrate the performance of the proposed method, and the numerical results show that the accurate estimations can be obtained by alleviating the error sensitivity when the measurement error is considered.  相似文献

Fuzzy Rule-Based Systems are appropriate tools to deal with classification problems due to their good properties. However, they can suffer a lack of system accuracy as a result of the uncertainty inherent in the definition of the membership functions and the limitation of the homogeneous distribution of the linguistic labels.The aim of the paper is to improve the performance of Fuzzy Rule-Based Classification Systems by means of the Theory of Interval-Valued Fuzzy Sets and a post-processing genetic tuning step. In order to build the Interval-Valued Fuzzy Sets we define a new function called weak ignorance for modeling the uncertainty associated with the definition of the membership functions. Next, we adapt the fuzzy partitions to the problem in an optimal way through a cooperative evolutionary tuning in which we handle both the degree of ignorance and the lateral position (based on the 2-tuples fuzzy linguistic representation) of the linguistic labels.The experimental study is carried out over a large collection of data-sets and it is supported by a statistical analysis. Our results show empirically that the use of our methodology outperforms the initial Fuzzy Rule-Based Classification System. The application of our cooperative tuning enhances the results provided by the use of the isolated tuning approaches and also improves the behavior of the genetic tuning based on the 3-tuples fuzzy linguistic representation.  相似文献

We study the law of the iterated logarithm (LIL) for the maximum likelihood estimation of the parameters (as a convex optimization problem) in the generalized linear models with independent or weakly dependent (ρ-mixing) responses under mild conditions. The LIL is useful to derive the asymptotic bounds for the discrepancy between the empirical process of the log-likelihood function and the true log-likelihood. The strong consistency of some penalized likelihood-based model selection criteria can be shown as an application of the LIL. Under some regularity conditions, the model selection criterion will be helpful to select the simplest correct model almost surely when the penalty term increases with the model dimension, and the penalty term has an order higher than O(log log n) but lower than O(n): Simulation studies are implemented to verify the selection consistency of Bayesian information criterion.  相似文献

The sequential gradient-restoration algorithm (SGRA) was developed in the late 1960s for the solution of equality-constrained nonlinear programs and has been successfully implemented by Miele and coworkers on many large-scale problems. The algorithm consists of two major sequentially applied phases. The first is a gradient-type minimization in a subspace tangent to the constraint surface, and the second is a feasibility restoration procedure. In Part 1, the original SGRA algorithm is described and is compared with two other related methods: the gradient projection and the generalized reduced gradient methods. Next, the special case of linear equalities is analyzed. It is shown that, in this case, only the gradient-type minimization phase is needed, and the SGRA becomes identical to the steepest-descent method. Partly linear regression model is useful in practice, but little is investigated in the literature to adapt it to the real data which are dependent and conditionally heteroscedastic. In this paper, the estimators of the regression components are constructed via local polynomial fitting and the large Sample properties are explored. Under certain mild regularities, the conditions are obtained to ensure that the estimators of the nonparametric component and its derivatives are consistent up to the convergence rates which are optimal in the i. i. d. case, and the estimator of the parametric component is root-n consistent with the same rate as for parametric model. The technique adopted in the proof differs from that used and corrects the errors in the reference by Hamilton and Truong under i. i. d. samples.  相似文献

Additive utility function models are widely used in multiple criteria decision analysis. In such models, a numerical value is associated to each alternative involved in the decision problem. It is computed by aggregating the scores of the alternative on the different criteria of the decision problem. The score of an alternative is determined by a marginal value function that evolves monotonically as a function of the performance of the alternative on this criterion. Determining the shape of the marginals is not easy for a decision maker. It is easier for him/her to make statements such as “alternative a is preferred to b”. In order to help the decision maker, UTA disaggregation procedures use linear programming to approximate the marginals by piecewise linear functions based only on such statements. In this paper, we propose to infer polynomials and splines instead of piecewise linear functions for the marginals. In this aim, we use semidefinite programming instead of linear programming. We illustrate this new elicitation method and present some experimental results.  相似文献

The aim of this work is to present new approach to study weighted pseudo almost periodic functions using the measure theory. We present a new concept of weighted ergodic functions which is more general than the classical one. Then we establish many interesting results on the functional space of such functions like completeness and composition theorems. The theory of this work generalizes the classical results on weighted pseudo almost periodic functions. For illustration, we provide some applications for evolution equations which include reaction diffusion systems and partial functional differential equations.  相似文献
