As a model system, thin films of trisilanolphenyl‐POSS (TPP) and two different number average molar mass (5 and 23 kg mol?1) poly(t‐butyl acrylate) (PtBA) were prepared as blends by Langmuir–Blodgett film deposition. Films were characterized by ellipsometry. For comparison, bulk blends are prepared by solution casting and the samples are characterized via differential scanning calorimetry. The increase in Tg as a function of TPP content for bulk high and low molar mass samples are in the order of ~10 °C. Whereas bulk Tg shows comparable increases for both molar masses (~10 °C), the increase in surface Tg for higher molar mass PtBA is greater than for low molar mass (~22 °C vs. ~10 °C). Nonetheless, the total enhancement of Tg is complete by the time 20 wt % TPP is added without further benefit at higher nanofiller loads. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part B: Polym. 1‐{3,4‐Di‐(2‐hydroxyethoxy)phenyl}‐2‐(2‐thiophenyl)ethene (5) was prepared and condensed with terephthaloyl chloride to yield polyester (6). Polymer 6 was reacted with tetracyanoethylene to give a new Y‐type polyester (7) containing 1‐(3,4‐dioxyethoxy)phenyl‐2‐{5‐(2,2,3‐tricyanovinyl)‐2‐thiophenyl)}ethenyl groups as NLO‐chromophores, which are components of the polymer backbones. Polyester 7 is soluble in common organic solvents such as N,N‐dimethylformamide and acetone. Polymer 7 showed a thermal stability up to 300 °C in thermogravimetric analysis with glass transition temperature (Tg) obtained from differential scanning calorimetry near 126 °C. The second harmonic generation (SHG) coefficient (d33) of poled polymer film at the 1560 nm fundamental wavelength was around 6.57 × 10?9 esu. The dipole alignment exhibited high thermal stability up to the Tg, and there was no SHG decay below 125 °C due to the partial main‐chain character of polymer structure, which is acceptable for NLO device applications. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Uniaxial deformation of amorphous L -polylactic acid films was performed at two different temperatures at which thermal degradation was minimal, 70 °C or Tg + 10 and 90 °C or Tg + 30. Samples were annealed postdeformation for long times (either 15 or 45 min) to approach equilibrium conditions. Samples deformed and annealed at 70 °C showed low crystallinity and poor crystalline order or crystal size, as determined by wide-angle X-ray diffraction. At 90 °C, high crystallinity and order parameters were observed. In addition, once the oriented chains had crystallized at this temperature, nonoriented chains also underwent crystallization, and a small fraction of nonordered crystal phase was therefore observed after long annealing times. These observations are explained on the basis of different morphologies in samples drawn at the two temperatures. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part B: Polym Phys, 2013  相似文献

Copolymerization reactions between cyclic(arylene disulfide) oligomers were studied. The cyclic disulfide oligomers derived from 4,4′-isopropylidene bisbenzenethiol gave soluble polysulfanes via copolymerization with S8. The copolymerization reactions were studied both in solution and melt by GPC and NMR. Solution copolymerization reactions can only form polysulfanes with up to three to four sulfur linkages; however, melt copolymerization reactions gave polysulfanes with up to seven sulfur linkages (average). The melt copolymerization reactions between cyclic disulfide oligomers derived from 4,4′-thiobis(benzenethiol) and S8 were studied using DSC, TGA, and DMTA. With increasing contents of sulfur in the polysulfanes, Tgs, 5% weight losses by TGA, and tan δ decreased. With seven sulfur linkages in the polymer, it is a rubber with a Tg of 12°C, a 5% weight loss by TGA of 249°C, and tan δ of 44°C, respectively. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Nanoscale poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) particles were prepared by modified microemulsion polymerization. Different from particles made by traditional microemulsion polymerization, the particles prepared by modified microemulsion polymerization were multichain systems. PMMA samples, whether prepared by the traditional procedure or the modified procedure, had glass-transition temperatures (Tg's) greater than 120 °C and were rich in syndiotactic content (55–61% rr). After the samples were dissolved in CHCl3, there were decreases in the Tg values for the polymers prepared by the traditional procedure and those prepared by the modified process. However, a more evident Tg decrease was observed in the former than in the latter; still, for both, Tg was greater than 120 °C. Polarizing optical microscopy and wide-angle X-ray diffraction indicated that some ordered regions formed in the particles prepared by modified microemulsion polymerization. The addition of a chain-transfer agent resulted in a decrease in both the syndiotacticity and Tg through decreasing polymer molecular weight. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Phenyl methacrylate and 1‐naphthyl methacrylate were polymerized in microemulsions using stearyltrimethylammonium chloride, cetyltrimethylammonium bromide, and a mixture of nonionic Triton surfactants to form latexes that were 20–30 nm in diameter. A temperature of 70 °C was needed to obtain polymers using thermal initiation. The tacticities of poly(phenyl methacrylate) (PPhMA) (55% rr) and poly(1‐naphthyl methacrylate) (P‐1‐NM) (47% rr) were the same as those of the polymers prepared in toluene solutions. The weight average molecular weights were 1 × 106 and 5 × 105 g/mol for PPhMA and P‐1‐NM prepared in microemulsions with very broad distributions. PPhMA samples from microemulsions and solution had the same Tg = 127 °C. P‐1‐NM from microemulsions had Tg = 145–147 °C compared with Tg = 142 °C for P‐1‐NM from solution. The molecular weights and the glass‐transition temperatures of both PPhMA and P‐1‐NM from microemulsions are substantially higher than any previously reported. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. To have a better insight into the effect of interaction between polymer matrix and clay on the properties of nanocomposite, poly(methyl methacrylate)/clay nanocomposites were prepared by a heterocoagulation method. Using a reactive cationic emulsifier, methacryloyloxyethyltrimethyl ammonium chloride (METAC), a strong polymer–clay interaction was obtained with the advantage of keeping a consistent polymer matrix property. X‐ray diffraction and transmission electronic microscopy indicated an exfoliated structure in nanocomposites. The glass transition temperature (Tg) of the nanocomposites was measured by DSC and DMA. The DMA results showed that with a strong interaction, PMMA–METAC nanocomposite showed a 20 °C enhancement in glass transition temperature (Tg), whereas a slight increase in Tg was observed for PMMA–cetyl trimethylammonium bromide (CTAB)/clay nanocomposite with a weak interaction. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(OxyMethylene) (POM) and its miscible blends were studied by multifrequency A.C. dielectric and thermally stimulated currents (TSC). The blends contained small amounts of either poly(vinyl phenol), which is a high glass transition (Tg) diluent, or a styrene-co-hydroxy styrene oligomeric low Tg diluent. The variation of the 10°C “β” transition with blend composition proves that it is the glass transition, and that the −70°C “γ” transition is a local motion. Dielectrically the β transition is very weak in pure POM even in fast-quenched samples. The TSC thermal sampling method also detected two cooperative transitions, γ and β, in POM and its blends, and was used to directly resolve the γ transition into low and high activation energy components. If one considers the contribution of exclusion of the diluents from the crystal lamellae, it is shown that the blends behave like typical amorphous blends as a function of concentration. The effect of crystals on amorphous motions is examined in light of comparison with van Krevelen's37 predictions of an “amorphous” Tg, and the transitions in POM are contrasted with those for other semicrystalline polymers. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A dicarboxylic acid monomer, 5-phthalimidoisophthalic acid, containing a phthalimide pendent group was prepared by the condensation of 5-aminoisophthalic acid and phthalic anhydride in glacial acetic anhydride. The monomer was reacted with various aromatic diamines to produce polyamides using triphenyl phosphite and pyridine as condensing agents. These polyamides were produced with inherent viscosities of 0.64–1.14 dL · g−1. All the polymers, characterized by wide-angle X-ray diffraction, revealed an amorphous nature resulting from the presence of the bulky pendent group. These polyamides exhibited excellent solubility in a variety of solvents such as N- methyl-2-pyrrolidinone, N,N-dimethylacetamide (DMAc), N,N-dimethylformamide, dimethyl sulfoxide, pyridine, and cyclohexanone. These polyamides showed glass-transition temperatures (Tg's) between 247 and 273 °C (by DSC) and 248 and 337 °C (by a dynamic mechanical analyzer). The thermogravimetric analytic measurement revealed the decomposition temperature at 10% weight-loss temperatures (Td10) ranging from 442 to 530 °C in nitrogen. The polyamides containing phthalimide groups exhibited higher Tg and Td10 values than those having no phthalimide groups. Transparent, tough, and flexible films of these polyamides could be cast from the DMAc solutions. These casting films had tensile strengths ranging from 81 to 126 MPa, elongations at break ranging from 7 to 13%, and tensile moduli ranging from 2.0 to 2.9 GPa. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Generally, protection and deprotection procedures of amino groups are required in preparing propargyl ether‐containing benzoxazines. In this study, we report a facile, deprotection‐free preparation of a propargyl ether‐containing phosphinated benzoxazine (2) from the nucleophilic substitution of a phenolic OH‐containing phosphinated benzoxazine (1) and propargyl bromide in the catalysis of potassium carbonate. The structure of (2) was characterized and confirmed by a high‐resolution mass spectrum, 1H, 13C, 1H‐1H, 1H‐13C nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectra, and X‐ray single crystal diffractogram. infrared (IR) and differential scanning calorimetry were used to monitor the ring‐opening of benzoxazine and crosslinking of propargyl ether. The microstructure and the structure–property relationship of the resulting homopolymers and copolymers are discussed. The Tg of homopolymer of (2) is 208 °C by dynamic mechanical analysis, the coefficient of thermal expansion is 43 ppm/°C, and Td 5% (N2) is 393 °C, respectively, which are higher than those of the homopolymer of (1) . Similar trends were observed in the copolymerization system. The results demonstrate the beneficial effect of crosslinking afforded by the propargyl ether group is higher than that by the phenolic OH group. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Second harmonic generation (SHG) was used to measure the temperature dependence of the reorientation activation volume of 4-(diethylamino)-4′-nitrotolane (DEANT) in poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA). The decay of the SHG signal from films of DEANT/PMMA was recorded at hydrostatic pressures up to 3060 atm and at different temperatures between 25°C below the glass transition temperature to 35°C above it. The activation volume, ΔV*αβ associated with the long range α-type motion of the polymer remained constant at 213 ± 10 Å3 between Tg − 25°C and Tg + 10°C. At higher temperatures, ΔV*αβ decreased linearly with increasing temperature. The activation volume, ΔV*αβ, associated with short range secondary relaxations was constant over the entire temperature range with a value of 77 ± 10 Å3. The data suggest that above Tg chromophore reorientation is coupled to both the long range and local motions of the polymer; whereas, well below Tg chromophore reorientation is closely coupled to the local relaxations of the polymer. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Metathesis polymerization of N-phenyl-exo-norbornene dicarboximide and ortho/meta/para methyl substituted phenyl nadimides was carried out using WCl6/tetramethyltin. Structural characterization was done by FTIR, 1H- and 13C-NMR. A mixture of cis and trans double bond structures were introduced in the backbone during polymerization. The cis content was higher (52 to 65%). In the DSC scan of poly(N-o-tolyl nadimide), two exotherms were observed at 240 and 270°C while in other samples only one exothermic transition was observed above 240°C. These exotherms disappeared in the second heating cycle. The Tg of the polymers, as determined in the second heating cycle, was highest in poly(N-o-tolyl nadimide) and lowest in poly(N-m-tolyl nadimide). The polymers were stable up to 443 ± 3°C and decomposed above this temperature in a single step. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci A: Polym Chem 35 : 2917–2924, 1997  相似文献

Polymer composites composed of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) and silica (14 nm diameter) have been investigated. The influences of sample preparation and processing have been probed. Two types of sample preparation methods were investigated: (i) solution mixture of PMMA and silica in methyl ethyl ketone and (ii) in situ synthesis of PMMA in the presence of silica. After removing all solvent or monomer, as confirmed using thermogravimetric analysis, and after compression molding, drops in Tg of 5–15 °C were observed for all composites (2–12% w/w silica) and even pure polymer reference samples. However, after additional annealing for 72 h at 140 °C, all previously observed drops in Tg disappeared, and the intrinsic Tg of bulk, pure PMMA was again observed. This is indicative of nonequilibrium trapped voids being present in the as‐molded samples. Field‐emission scanning electron microscopy was used to show well‐dispersed particles, and dynamic mechanical analysis was used to probe the mechanical properties (i.e., storage modulus) of the fully equilibrated composites. Even though no equilibrium Tg changes were observed, the addition of silica to the PMMA matrices was observed to improve the mechanical properties of the glassy polymer host. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of new polyesters was prepared from terephthaloyl (or isophthaloyl) chloride acid with various cardo bisphenols on solution polycondensation in nitrobenzene using pyridine as hydrogen chloride quencher at 150 °C. These polyesters were produced with inherent viscosities of 0.32–0.49 dL · g−1. Most of these polyesters exhibited excellent solubility in a variety of solvents such as N,N‐dimethylformamide, tetrahydrofuran, tetrachloroethane, dimethyl sulfoxide, N,N‐dimethylacetamide, N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidinone, m‐cresol, and o‐chlorophenol. The polyesters containing cardo groups including diphenylmethylene, tricyclo[5.2.1.02,6]decyl, tert‐butylcyclohexyl, phenylcyclohexyl, and cyclododecyl groups exhibited better solubility than bisphenol A–based polyesters. These polymers showed glass transition temperatures (Tg's) between 185 °C and 243 °C and decomposition temperatures at 10% weight loss ranging from 406 °C to 472 °C in nitrogen. These cardo polyesters exhibited higher Tg's and better solubility than bisphenol A‐based polyesters. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci A: Polym Chem 38: 4451–4456, 2000  相似文献

Three arylene difluoride monomers containing phosphine oxide ( 1 ), phosphinic acid ( 2 ), or phosphinate ester ( 3 ) groups were prepared and polymerized with bisphenol A to give novel poly-(arylene ether)s ( 4 , 5 , and 6 ). The polymers obtained had moderate molecular weights (ηinh: 0.14–0.30 dL g−1 in N-methylpyrrolidinone) and glass-transition temperatures (Tg: 102–200 °C), depending on the phosphine group in the main chain. Using bis(4-fluorophenyl)sulfone as a comonomer improved the polymerization to give copolymers with higher solution viscosities. The stoichiometric investigation revealed that 7 mol % excess of fluoride monomer gave the highest molecular weight copolymer 8 with ηinh of 0.78 dL g−1, which had a Tg of 176 °C, a T of 432 °C, and formed a hard film by casting from solution. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The polymerization behavior of N-(p-aminobenzoyl)caprolactam was studied. It was found that polymerization could proceed by either elimination of caprolactam or by ring opening. Polymers prepared at temperatures above 200°C showed a greater tendency for ring opening to produce alternating aromatic/aliphatic copolymers than did polymers prepared at lower temperatures. Block copolymers of poly(p-benzamide) and nylon 6 were prepared by a two-stage hydrolytic polymerization process or by anionic polymerization at temperatures > 200°C. Polymer microstructures were determined using 13C-NMR spectroscopy by comparison with homopolymers and model alternating copolymers. The alternating copolymer prepared by condensation of N-(p-aminobenzoyl)-6-caproic acid showed a melting transition at 300–305°C in the DSC and a Tg in subsequent heating cycles of 116–119°C. Copolymers made with the two-stage process were rich in p-benzamide sequences and showed no Tg or Tm below 400°C. Copolymer made with NaH was rich in nylon 6 units, showed a Tm of 175–180°C and a Tg of 80–81°C, and was homogeneous in both the melt and solid.  相似文献

Novel polyesters from 2,5‐furandicarboxylic acid or 2,5‐dimethyl‐furandicarboxylate and 2,3‐butanediol have been synthesized via bulk polycondensation catalyzed by titanium (IV) n‐butoxide, tin (IV) ethylhexanoate, or zirconium (IV) butoxide. The polymers were analyzed by size exclusion chromatography, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), matrix‐assisted laser ionization‐desorption time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry, electrospray ionization time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry, electrospray ionization quadruple time‐of‐flight mass spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and differential scanning calorimetry. Fully bio‐based polyesters with number average molecular weights ranging from 2 to 7 kg/mol were obtained which can be suitable for coating applications. The analysis of their thermal properties proved that these polyesters are thermally stable up to 270–300 °C, whereas their glass transition temperature (Tg) values were found between 70 and 110 °C. Furthermore, a material was prepared with a molecular weight of 13 kg/mol, with a Tg of 113 °C. This high Tg would make this material possibly suitable for hot‐fill applications. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2013  相似文献
