Five novel polyamides incorporating phosphine oxide groups have been synthesized by the condensation reaction of bis(4-carboxyphenyl)phenylphosphine oxide with a series of aromatic diamines. The thermal properties of these polymers were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis. Glass transition temperatures in the 225–254°C range were recorded, together with good thermooxidative stability (5% weight loss occurring at >420°C) and high char yield upon prolonged heating at 650–800°C (24–50%). Also, good solubility in aprotic polar solvents was observed for all polyamides synthesized. © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

Four novel polyamides have been prepared in high yields by the polycondensation reactions of bis(3-carboxyphenyl)- and bis(4-carboxyphenyl)phenylphosphine oxide with 3,3′- and 4,4′-diaminodiphenylsulfone. The thermal properties of these materials were studied using differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis. It was found that the presence of both phosphine oxide and sulfonyl groups within the polymer backbone brought about remarkable modifications in the thermal behavior. Glass transition temperatures 40–50°C lower than those of conventional polyamides i.e., in the range 170–200°C, were recorded. However, we observed greater thermooxidative stability (5% weight loss at >410°C) and high char yield upon prolonged heating at 800°C (20–34%). Also, good solubility in polar aprotic solvents was observed for all polyamides together with some solubility in aqueous solvent mixtures, e.g. tetrahydrofuran/water (95:5). © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

A new ether‐bridged aromatic dicarboxylic acid, 2′,5′‐bis(4‐carboxyphenoxy)‐p‐terphenyl ( 3 ), was synthesized by the aromatic fluoro‐displacement reaction of p‐fluorobenzonitrile with 2′,5′‐dihydroxy‐p‐terphenyl in the presence of potassium carbonate, followed by alkaline hydrolysis. A set of new aromatic polyamides containing ether and laterally attached p‐terphenyl units was synthesized by the direct phosphorylation polycondensation of diacid 3 with various aromatic diamines. The polymers were produced with high yields and moderately high inherent viscosities (0.44–0.79 dL/g). The polyamides derived from 3 and rigid diamines, such as p‐phenylenediamine and benzidine, and a structurally analogous diamine, 2′,5′‐bis(4‐aminophenoxy)‐p‐terphenyl, were semicrystalline and insoluble in organic solvents. The other polyamides were amorphous and organosoluble and could afford flexible and tough films via solution casting. These films exhibited good mechanical properties, with tensile strengths of 91–108 MPa, elongations to break of 6–17%, and initial moduli of 1.95–2.43 GPa. These polyamides showed glass‐transition temperatures between 193 and 252 °C. Most of the polymers did not show significant weight loss before 450 °C, as revealed by thermogravimetric analysis in nitrogen or in air. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A set of new aromatic polyamides containing ether and benzonorbornane units were synthesized by the direct phosphorylation polycondensation of 3,6‐bis(4‐carboxyphenoxy)benzonorbornane with various aromatic diamines. The polymers were produced in high yields and moderate to high inherent viscosities (0.64–1.70 dL/g). The polyamides derived from rigid diamines such as p‐phenylenediamine and benzidine were semicrystalline and insoluble in organic solvents. The other polyamides were amorphous and organosoluble and afforded flexible and tough films via solution casting. These films exhibited good mechanical properties, with tensile strengths of 95–101 MPa, elongations at break of 13–25%, and initial moduli of 1.97–2.33 GPa. The amorphous polyamides showed glass‐transition temperatures between 176 and 212 °C (by differential scanning calorimetry) and softening temperatures between 194 and 213 °C (by thermomechanical analysis). Most of the polymers did not show significant weight loss before 450 °C in nitrogen or in air. Some properties of these polyamides were also compared with those of homologous counterparts without the pendent norbornane groups. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. New N-phenylated aromatic-aliphatic and all aromatic polyamides were prepared by the high-temperature solution polycondensation of 4,4′-dianilinobiphenyl with both aliphatic (methylene chain lengths of 6–11) and aromatic dicarboxylic acid chlorides. All of the aromatic-aliphatic polyamides and the wholly aromatic polyamides exhibited an amorphous nature and good solubility in amide-type and chlorinated hydrocarbon solvents, except for those aromatic polyamides containing p-oriented phenylene or biphenylylene linkages in the backbone; the latter were crystalline and insoluble in organic solvents except m-cresol. The N-phenylated aromatic-aliphatic polyamides and aromatic polyamides had glass transition temperatures in the range of 79–116°C and 207–255°C, respectively, and all the polymers were thermally stable with decomposition temperatures above 400°C in air. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A novel aromatic dicarboxylic acid monomer, 4,4′-(2,3-naphthalenedioxy)-dibenzoic acid ( 3 ), was prepared by the fluorodisplacement reaction of p-fluorobenzonitrile with 2,3-dihydroxynaphthalene in N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) in the presence of potassium carbonate followed by alkaline hydrolysis of the intermediate dinitrile. A series of novel aromatic polyamides containing ortho-linked aromatic units in the main chain were synthesized by the direct polycondensation of diacid 3 and a variety of aromatic diamines using triphenyl phosphite and pyridine as condensing agents in the N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) solution containing dissolved calcium chloride. The resulting polyamides had inherent viscosities higher than 0.74 and up to 2.10 dL/g. All of these polyamides were soluble in polar solvents, such as NMP, DMF, N,N-dimethylacetamide (DMAc), and dimethyl sulfoxide. Transparent, flexible, and tough films could be cast from their DMAc or NMP solutions. The solvent-cast films had high tensile strengths and moduli. Extensions to break were relatively low, except for the polymers derived from 2,2-bis[4-(4-aminophenoxy)phenyl]hexafluoropropane and 3,4′-oxydianiline, which had elongations of 82 and 62%, respectively. Except for the polyamide based on p-phenylenediamine, all the other polyamides were amorphous in nature. All the polymers are thermally stable to temperatures in excess of 450°C in either air or nitrogen atmosphere. The polymers exhibited glass transition temperatures ranging from 183 to 260°C and decomposition temperatures (10% weight loss) ranging from 462–523°C in air and 468–530°C in nitrogen. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A new aromatic dicarboxylic acid, 1,4-bis (p-carboxyphenoxy)naphthyl ( 3 ), was synthesized by the reaction of p-fluorobenzonitrile with 1,4-naphthalenediol, followed by hydrolysis. Aromatic polyamides having inherent viscosities of 1.27–2.22 dL/g were prepared by the triphenyl phosphite activated polycondensation of diacid 3 with various aromatic diamines. Most of the resulting polymers showed an amorphous nature and were readily soluble in a variety of organic solvents including N,N-dimethyl-acetamide (DMAc), N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP), and m-cresol. Transparent, tough, and flexible films of these polymers could be cast from the DMAc or NMP solutions. The cast films had tensile strengths ranging from 64–104 MPa, elongations-at-break from 6 to 10%, and initial moduli from 1.52 to 2.14 GPa. These polyamides had glass transition temperatures in the range of 195 to 240°C. Almost all polymers were thermally stable up to 400°C, with 10% weight loss being recorded above 480°C in air and nitrogen atmospheres. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A novel hexamethylspirobichroman (HMSBC) unit-containing dicarboxylic acid, 6,6′-bis(4-carboxyphenoxy)-4,4,4′,4′,7,7′-hexamethyl-2,2′-spirobichroman ( 3 ), was derived from nucleophilic substitution of p-fluorobenzonitrile with the phenolate ion of 6,6′-dihydroxy-4,4,4′,4′,7,7′-hexamethyl-2,2′-spirobichroman ( 1 ), followed by alkaline hydrolysis of the intermediate bis(ether nitrile). Using TPP and pyridine as condensing agents, a series of polyamides with inherent viscosities in the range of 0.82–1.14 dL/g were prepared by the direct polycondensation of dicarboxylic acid 3 with various aromatic diamines. All the obtained polymers were noncrystalline and soluble in various organic solvents such as N,N-dimethylacetamide (DMAc) and N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP). 4,4′-(2,7-Naphthalenedioxy)dibenzoic acid, a new aromatic dicarboxylic acid monomer, was prepared starting from 2,7-dihydroxynaphthalene and p-fluorobenzonitrile in three steps. Using triphenyl phosphite (TPP) and pyridine as condensing agents, a series of novel aromatic polyamides were synthesized by the direct polycondensation of the diacid monomer and aromatic diamines in N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) solution containing dissolved calcium chloride. The resulting polyamides had inherent viscosities ranging from 0.48 to 0.67 dL/g. Most of these polyamides were readily soluble in polar solvents, such as NMP and N,N-dimethylacetamide (DMAc). Transparent, flexible, and tough films were cast from their DMAc solutions. They had tensile strengths of 65–70 MPa, elongations to break of 5–7%, and initial moduli of 1.4–1.6 GPa. Most of these polymers proved to be amorphous, with glass transition temperatures in the range between 143–227°C. Thermogravimetric analysis (TG) showed that all the polyamides were stable up to 450°C in both air and nitrogen atmospheres. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A novel diamine, bis(3‐aminophenyl)‐4‐(1‐adamantyl)phenoxyphenyl phosphine oxide (mDAATPPO), was synthesized via the Williamson ether reaction of 4‐(1‐adamantyl)phenol and bis(3‐nitrophenyl)‐4‐fluorophenyl phosphine oxide, followed by reduction. The phenol group was prepared by the Friedel–Crafts reaction of 1‐bromoadamantane and phenol, whereas the phosphine oxide group was synthesized by the Grignard reaction of 1‐bromo‐4‐fluorobezene and diphenyl phosphinic chloride, followed by nitration. The monomer and its intermediate compounds were characterized with Fourier transform infrared, NMR, and melting‐point apparatus. The monomer was then used to prepare polyimides with 2,2‐bis(3,4‐dicarboxyphenyl)hexafluoropropane dianhydride, 3,3′,4,4′‐benzophenonetetracarboxylic dianhydride, 4,4′‐oxydiphthalic dianhydride, and pyromellitic dianhydride by the conventional two‐step synthesis: the preparation of poly(amic acid) followed by solution imidization. The molecular weights of the polyimides were controlled to 20,000 g/mol by off‐stoichiometry, and the synthesized polyimides were characterized with Fourier transform infrared, NMR, gel permeation chromatography, thermogravimetric analysis, and differential scanning calorimetry. In addition, the solubility, intrinsic viscosity, dielectric constant, and birefringence of the polyimides were evaluated. Novel polyimides with mDAATPPO exhibited good solubility, high glass‐transition temperatures (290–330 °C), excellent thermal stability (>500 °C), low dielectric constants (2.77–3.01), low refractive indices, and low birefringence values (0.0019–0.0030). © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new dicarboxylic acid containing a diphenylmethylene linkage, bis[4‐(4‐carboxyphenoxy)phenyl]diphenylmethane (BCAPD), was prepared from bis(4‐hydroxphenyl)diphenylmethane and p‐fluorobenzonitrile via an aromatic nucleophilic substitution reaction followed by hydrolysis. A series of novel polyamides were prepared by the direct polycondensation of BCAPD and various aromatic diamines. The polymers were produced with moderate to high inherent viscosities of 0.80–0.85 dL g?1. Nearly all the polymers were readily soluble in polar solvents such as N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidinone, N,N‐dimethylacetamide, N,N‐dimethylformamide, and dimethyl sulfoxide, in less polar solvents such as pyridine and cyclohexanone, and in tetrahydrofuran. All the polymers were amorphous, and the polyamide films had a tensile strength and a tensile modulus greater than 80 MPa and 2.0 GPa, respectively. These polyamides had glass‐transition temperatures between 249 and 274 °C, and their temperatures at a 10% weight loss were 477–538 and 483–540 °C in nitrogen and air atmospheres, respectively. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Ten new aromatic polyamides containing s-triazine rings in the main chain were synthesized by the low temperature interfacial polycondensation technique involving the reactions of each of the two s-triazine containing diacylchlorides, viz., 2,4-bis (4-chlorocarbonylphenoxy)-6-methoxy-s-triazine and 2,4-bis(3-chlorocarbonylphenoxy)-6-methoxy-s-triazine, with five aromatic diamines namely, 4,4′-bis(4-aminophenoxy)diphenyl sulfone, 4,4′-bis(3-aminophenoxy)diphenyl sulfone, 2,2-bis[4(4-aminophenoxy) phenyl] propane, 1,4 bis (4-amino-phenoxy) benzene, and 1,3-bis (4-aminophenoxy)benzene. The resulting polyamides were characterized by viscosity measurements, IR and 1H-NMR spectroscopy, solubility tests, x-ray diffraction, and thermogravimetry. The polyamides had inherent viscosities in the range of 0.16–1.06 dL/g in N,N-dimethylacetamide at 30°C. Most of the s-triazine containing polyamides dissolved readily at room temperature in polar solvents. Except for the polyamide PA-2, the polyamides did not lose weight below 350°C under a nitrogen atmosphere. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci A: Polym Chem 35: 1077–1085, 1997  相似文献

Two novel series of ambipolar and near‐infrared electrochromic aromatic polyamides with electroactive anthraquinone group were synthesized from new aromatic diamines, 2‐(bis(4‐aminophenyl)amino)anthracene‐9,10‐dione and 2‐(4‐(bis(4‐aminophenyl)amino)phenoxy)anthracene‐9,10‐dione, respectively, via low‐temperature solution polycondensation reaction. These polymers were readily soluble in many polar solvents and showed useful levels of thermal stability associated with high glass‐transition temperatures (Tg) (285–360 °C). Electrochemical studies of these electrochromic polyamides revealed ambipolar behavior with reversible redox couples and high contrast ratio both in the visible range and near‐infrared region. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Aliphatic–aromatic polyamides were synthesized by the palladium-catalyzed polycondensation of aliphatic diamines, aromatic dibromides, and carbon monoxide. The effects of variables, such as the kind and amount of base, reaction temperature, and the kind of palladium catalyst were investigated in detail on the reaction of hexamethylenediamine and bis(4-bromophenyl) ether with carbon monoxide. Inherent viscosities of the polyamides were between 0.13 and 1.21 dL/g and varied markedly with the structure of the diamine component. Solubility of the polyamides decreased with increase of chain length of aliphatic diamines, and the polyamides derived from p-dibromobenzene was insoluble in organic solvents except for m-cresol. Polyamides obtained from primary aliphatic diamines began to decompose at 210–250°C in air due to decomposition of the aliphatic chain.  相似文献

Thermoplastic and organic‐soluble aromatic polyamides containing both bulky triphenylethane units and flexible ether linkages were prepared directly from 1,1‐bis[4‐(4‐carboxyphenoxy)phenyl]‐1‐phenylethane ( III ) with various aromatic diamines or from 1,1‐bis[4‐(4‐aminophenoxy)phenyl]‐1‐phenylethane ( V ) with various aromatic dicarboxylic diacids via triphenyl phosphite and pyridine. These polyamides had inherent viscosities ranging from 0.71 to 1.77 dL/g. All the polymers easily were dissolved in aprotic polar solvents such as N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidone and N,N‐dimethylacetamide, and some even could be dissolved in less polar solvents such as tetrahydrofuran. The flexible and tough films cast from the polymer solutions possessed tensile strengths of 89 to 104 MPa. The polyamides were thermally stable up to 460°C in air or nitrogen. Glass‐transition temperatures of these polyamides were observed in a range of 179 to 268°C via differential scanning calorimetry or thermomechanical analysis. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A novel, trifluoromethyl‐substituted, bis(ether amine) monomer, 1,4‐bis(4‐amino‐2‐trifluoromethylphenoxy)naphthalene, was synthesized through the nucleophilic displacement of 2‐chloro‐5‐nitrobenzotrifluoride with 1,4‐dihydroxynaphthalene in the presence of potassium carbonate in dimethyl sulfoxide, followed by catalytic reduction with hydrazine and Pd/C in ethanol. A series of new fluorine‐containing polyimides with inherent viscosities of 0.57–0.91 dL/g were prepared by reacting the diamine with six commercially available aromatic dianhydrides via a conventional, two‐step thermal or chemical imidization method. Most of the resulting polyimides were soluble in strong polar solvents such as N‐methylpyrrolidone and N,N‐dimethylacetamide (DMAc). All the polyimides afforded transparent, flexible, and strong films with good tensile properties. These polyimides exhibited glass‐transition temperatures (Tg's) (by DSC) and softening temperatures (by thermomechanical analysis) in the ranges of 252–315 and 254–301 °C, respectively. Decomposition temperatures for 5% weight loss all occurred above 500 °C in both air and nitrogen atmospheres. The dielectric constants of these polyimides ranged from 3.03 to 3.71 at 1 MHz. In addition, a series of new, fluorinated polyamides with inherent viscosities of 0.32–0.62 dL/g were prepared by the direct polycondensation reaction the diamine with various aromatic dicarboxylic acids by means of triphenyl phosphite and pyridine. All the polyamides were soluble in polar solvents such as DMAc and could be solution‐cast into tough and flexible films. These polyamides had Tg's between 228 and 256 °C and 10% weight‐loss temperatures above 400 °C in nitrogen or air. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of sulfonated poly(phthalazinone ether phosphine oxide)s (sPPEPO) were prepared via aromatic nucleophilic substitution polycondensation of 4‐(4‐hydroxyphenyl) phthalazinone (HPPZ) with sulfonated bis(4‐fluorophenyl)phenyl phosphine oxide (sBFPPO) and bis(4‐fluorophenyl)phenyl phosphine oxide (BFPPO) at various ratios. The properties such as molecular weight, ion exchange capacity (IEC), swelling, thermal stability, proton conductivity, and morphology were investigated. sPPEPO with high IEC exhibited high proton conductivity while they still showed low swelling. Typically, sPPEPO with IEC of 1.54 and 1.69 meq/g exhibited high conductivity of 0.091 and 0.19 S/cm, and low swelling ratios of 14.3% and 19.5% at 80 °C, respectively. The low swelling was attributed to the strong intermolecular interaction including the electrostatic force and hydrogen bond. sPPEPO would be promising candidates used as polyelectrolyte membranes for fuel cells. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new series of high‐performance poly(arylene phosphine oxide) (PAPO) materials were synthesized postpolymerization from fluorinated poly(arylene phosphine oxide) (f‐PAPO). The new materials had increased solubility and film‐forming ability over the parent f‐PAPO. With the careful choice of the nucleophile, the thermal stability was also increased. The parent polymer f‐PAPO was synthesized via Ni(0) coupling from aromatic chloride and mesylate monomers. Both monomers were polymerized successfully to create polymers with intrinsic viscosities of 0.235 and 0.123 dL/g, respectively. The higher molecular weight f‐PAPO gave a glass transition of 320 °C and a char yield of 54% at 650 °C in air. The substitution of f‐PAPO via nucleophilic aromatic substitution produced PAPO thermoplastics with significant changes in the properties. The largest increase in the thermal stability relative to f‐PAPO was from 563 to 600 °C 10% weight‐loss values in nitrogen after the displacement of fluoride by 4‐aminophenol, which yielded poly[4‐(4‐aminopheonxyphenyl)bis(4′‐phenyl)phosphine oxide]. Additionally, the char yield increased from 54 to 71% in air at 650 °C. The solubility of the parent polymer was improved after substitution with 3‐tert‐butylphenol, n‐nonylamine, and poly(ethylene glycol)monomethyl ether. All of these became soluble in chloroform, N,N‐dimethylacetamide, and dimethyl sulfoxide. Copolymers were synthesized with 2,5‐dichloro‐4′‐fluorobenzophenone to improve the solubility of f‐PAPO without the loss of thermal stability. These copolymers also underwent nucleophilic aromatic substitution to create an epoxy cure agent that was used with the DEN 431 resin. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 2,6-Bis(4-aminophenoxy)naphthalene (2,6-BAPON) was synthesized in two steps from the condensation of 2,6-dihydroxynaphthalene with p-chloronitrobenzene in the presence of potassium carbonate, giving 2,6-bis(4-nitrophenoxy)naphthalene, followed by hydrazine hydrate/Pd—C reduction. A series of new polyamides were synthesized by the direct polycondensation of 2,6-BAPON with various aromatic dicarboxylic acids in the N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) solution containing dissolved metal salts such as CaCl2 or LiCl using triphenyl phosphite and pyridine as condensing agents. The polymers were obtained in quantitative yields with inherent viscosities of 0.62–2.50 dL/g. Most of the polymers were soluble in aprotic dipolar solvents such as N,N-dimethylacetamide (DMAc) and NMP, and they could be solution cast into transparent, flexible, and tough films. The casting films had yield strengths of 84–105 MPa, tensile strengths of 68–95 MPa, elongations at break of 8–36%, and tensile moduli of 1.4–2.1 GPa. The glass transition temperatures of the polyamides were in the range 155–225°C, and their 10% weight loss temperatures were above 505°C in nitrogen and above 474°C in air. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
