The effect of blend ratio and compatibilization on dynamic mechanical properties of PP/NBR blends was investigated at different temperatures. The storage modulus of the blend decreased with increase in rubber content and shows two Tg's indicating the incompatibility of the system. Various composite models have been used to predict the experimental viscoelastic data. The Takayanagi model fit well with the experimental values. The addition of phenolic modified polypropylene (Ph-PP) and maleic modified polypropylene (MA-PP) improved the storage modulus of the blend at lower temperatures. The enhancement in storage modulus was correlated with the change in domain size of dispersed NBR particles. The effect of dynamic vulcanization using sulfur, peroxide, and mixed system on viscoelastic behavior was also studied. Among these peroxide system shows the highest modulus. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci B: Polym Phys 35 : 2309–2327, 1997  相似文献

Based on the blends of chlorinated butyl rubber (CIIR), nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) and chloroprene rubber (CR), a kind of high damping elastomer with broad temperature and frequency ranges is prepared. CIIR/NBR binary blend is prepared to take advantage of the immiscibility and the large difference in cross‐link density of the different phases caused by the curatives and accelerators migration. The dynamic mechanical analysis reveals that the binary blend was immiscible and its loss factor (tanδ) versus temperature curves show two separated and expanded loss peaks when compared with those of pure cured CIIR and NBR. In order to improve its damping properties at room temperature, the third component CR with the polarity between CIIR and NBR was blended into the binary blend. The resulted CIIR/NBR/CR ternary blend has gained effective damping properties (tanδ > 0.3) in the temperature range of ?86.4 to 74.6°C and the frequency range of 10?2 to more than 109 Hz. Other effects on the damping properties of the ternary rubber were also studied. Copyright © 2013 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Blends of nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) with polyvinyl chloride (PVC) are widely used in products such as hoses and seals. As part of a project that uses NBR/PVC blends for manufacturing forest fire hoses, blends of NBR/PVC with various inorganic fillers, such as Mg(OH)2, china clay (organic modified kaolin) and nano clay (organic modified bentonite) were studied by TG-MS. No significant changes were observed to the type of the polymers’ decomposition products, compared to that of NBR/PVC blend without additives. The most remarkable change was the absence of HCl from decomposition products in the presence of the Mg(OH)2 additive.  相似文献

The PeakForce Quantitative Nanomechanical Mapping based on atomic force microscope (AFM) is employed to first visualize and then quantify the elastic properties of a model nitrile rubber/poly(vinyl chloride) (NBR/PVC) blend at the nanoscale. This method allows us to consistently observe the changes in mechanical properties of each phase in polymer blends. Beyond measuring and discriminating elastic modulus and adhesion forces of each phase, we tune the AFM tips and the peak force parameters in order to reliably image samples. In view of viscoelastic difference in each phase, a three‐phase coexistence of an unmixed NBR phase, the mixed phase, and PVC microcrystallites is directly visualized in NBR/PVC blends. The nanomechanical investigation is also capable of recognizing the crosslinked rubber phase in cured rubber. The contribution of the mixed phase was quantified and it was found that the mechanical properties of blends are mainly determined by the homogeneity and stiffness of the mixed phase. This study furthers our understanding the structure–mechanical property relationship of thermoplastic elastomers, which is important for their potential design and applications. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Crosslinking behaviors of acrylonitrile butadiene rubber (NBR)/poly (vinyl chloride) (PVC) alloy, filled with anhydrous copper sulfate (CuSO4) particles, were investigated for the first time by dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) under hetero and isothermal modes, respectively. In the heterothermal testing, (NBR/PVC)/CuSO4 compound showed two marked increases in the storage modulus (E′), corresponding to coordination crosslinking of NBR-CuSO4 and self-crosslinking of NBR and PVC respectively. During the isothermal testing, a dramatic increase in E′ was found at the initial stage while that of original NBR/PVC alloy was not detected. The marked increase in E′ of (NBR/PVC)/CuSO4 compound was mainly due to the crosslinking induced by coordination between  CN and Cu2+. The increasing extent of E′ increased with the rise of CuSO4 content, suggesting the formation of a greater number of crosslinks. Moreover, the activation energy (Ea) of crosslinking process was about 139 kJ/mol. In this work, fourier transform infrared spectrum (FT-IR) and equilibrium swelling method were also performed for the characterization of the compound. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Novel chlorinated acrylonitrile butadiene rubber (Cl‐NBR) was prepared from NBR by the alkaline hydrolysis of chloroform by using phase‐transfer catalysis. The formation of Cl‐NBR was monitored by 1H‐NMR, UV‐Vis, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopic techniques. The percentage of chlorine attached to the rubber chain was estimated by Volhard method. The effect of polar groups on the structural and thermal properties of Cl‐NBR was analyzed by scanning electron microscopy, X‐ray diffraction analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, and thermogravimetric analysis studies. The flame retardant, oil resistance, cure behavior, and mechanical properties of chlorinated elastomer were also analyzed. The proton NMR revealed the attachment of chlorine in the backbone of NBR with new chemical shift values. The C‐Cl stretching of chlorinated NBR was confirmed from Fourier transform infrared. The UV spectrum also supported the formation of chlorinated unit in the NBR chain through the shifts and broadening of absorption peaks. The X‐ray diffraction analysis pattern indicated a decrease in the amorphous domain of NBR with an increase in the level of chemical modification. The increased glass transition temperature obtained from differential scanning calorimetry confirms the increased molecular rigidity of the chlorinated NBR and thermal transitions increased with increase in the level of chemical modification. The thermal stability of Cl‐NBR decreased with an increase in chlorine content. The flame and oil resistance of Cl‐NBR was greatly higher than pure NBR due to the increased polarity of modified rubber. The superior tensile strength of Cl‐NBR (4 times higher than pure NBR) and higher oil resistance find applications in pump diaphragms, aircraft hoses, oil‐lined tubing, and gaskets materials with the excellent flame resistant property.  相似文献

Blends of nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) with butadiene rubber (BR) with varying ratios have been prepared. Vulcanization of prepared blends has been induced by ionizing radiation of gamma rays with varying dose up to 250 kGy. Physical properties, namely soluble fraction and swelling number have been followed up using toluene as a solvent. Mechanical properties, namely tensile strength, tensile modulus at 100% elongation and elongation at break have been followed up as a function of irradiation dose, as well as blend composition. Thermal stability of blends was studied by TGA. The result indicated that the addition of NBR has improved the properties of NBR/BR blends. Also, NBR/BR blend is thermally stable than BR alone.  相似文献

The dynamic mechanical behavior of uncrosslinked (thermoplastic) and crosslinked (thermosetting) acrylonitrile butadiene rubber/poly(ethylene‐co‐vinyl acetate) (NBR/EVA) blends was studied with reference to the effect of blend ratio, crosslinking systems, frequency, and temperature. Different crosslinked systems were prepared using peroxide (DCP), sulfur, and mixed crosslink systems. The glass‐transition behavior of the blends was affected by the blend ratio, the nature of crosslinking, and frequency. sThe damping properties of the blends increased with NBR content. The variations in tan δmax were in accordance with morphology changes in the blends. From tan δ values of peroxide‐cured NBR, EVA, and blends the crosslinking effect of DCP was more predominant in NBR. The morphology of the uncrosslinked blends was examined using scanning electron and optical microscopes. Cocontinuous morphology was observed between 40 and 60 wt % of NBR. The particle size distribution curve of the blends was also drawn. The Arrhenius relationship was used to calculate the activation energy for the glass transition of the blends, and it decreased with an increase in the NBR content. Various theoretical models were used to predict the modulus of the blends. From wide‐angle X‐ray scattering studies, the degree of crystallinity of the blends decreased with an increasing NBR content. The thermal behavior of the uncrosslinked and crosslinked systems of NBR/EVA blends was analyzed using a differential scanning calorimeter. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Different thermal analysis techniques were used to study the effect of fillers and ionic liquids (ILs) on the vulcanization process, thermal and dynamic mechanical properties of acrylonitrile–butadiene elastomer (NBR). The products of the studies were composites of NBR filled with hydrotalcite, nanosized silica or carbon black. ILs such as 1-butyl-1-methylpyrrolidinium (BMpyrrolBF4), 1-butyl-4-methylpyridinium (BMpyrBF4) or 1-butyl-1-methylpiperidinium (BMpipBF4) tetrafluoroborates were applied to improve the dispersion degree of the curatives and filler particles in the elastomer and to increase the efficiency of vulcanization. The differential scanning calorimetry results indicated that ILs reduced the vulcanization temperature of NBR compounds and increased the homogeneity of cross-link distribution in the elastomer network. NBRs filled with carbon black or silica exhibited similar thermal stabilities, whereas hydrotalcite reduced the temperature of thermal decomposition. The lowest mechanical loss factors were determined for vulcanizates filled with nanosized silica.

The paper reveals the influence of different methods of carbon black (CB) incorporation in the compatible blend of 50/50 (wt %) Ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) and Acrylonitrile butadiene elastomer (NBR) on different properties of vulcanized blend compounds. The partitioning of two types of CB in two different phases of the blend was estimated from dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA). The distribution of CBs due to preferential addition in different phases of the blend affects property variations in different degrees. From the analysis of SEM, TEM, AFM and electrical property measurements, it is found that mixing method significantly affects the electrical properties, morphology, and surface topography. The variation in AC conductivity and surface resistance study confirms the formation of different conductive network of CB with variation in mixing technique and it is supported by morphology analysis. The DMA have shown that CB has higher affinity towards less viscous EVA phase. This is further corroborated by the surface energy measurement, which in turn controls the electrical conductivity behaviour as well as mechanical properties of the blends.  相似文献

The mechanical and physical properties of blends based essentially on nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) and different ratios of high density polyethylene (HDPE) up to 25 parts per hundred part of rubber (phr) before and after electron beam irradiation were investigated. The values of tensile strength (TS), tensile modulus at 50% elongation (M50), hardness and gel fraction % (GF%) of NBR/HDPE blends were increased with both irradiation dose and by increasing the content of HDPE in the blends. On the other hand, the values of elongation at break (E b ) were decreased with both irradiation dose and the content of HDPE in the blends. By loading NBR/HDPE (100/25) blend with ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) copolymer the mechanical and physico-chemical properties were improved. Moreover, the degree of improvement is proportional to the loading content of EVA.  相似文献

Effects of precipitated silica (PSi) and silica from fly ash (FA) particles (FASi) on the cure and mechanical properties before and after thermal and oil aging of natural rubber (NR) and acrylonitrile–butadiene rubber (NBR) blends with and without chloroprene rubber (CR) or epoxidized NR (ENR) as a compatibilizer have been reported in this paper. The experimental results suggested that the scorch and cure times decreased with the addition of silica and the compound viscosity increased on increasing the silica content. The mechanical properties for PSi filled NR/NBR vulcanizates were greater than those for FASi filled NR/NBR vulcanizates in all cases. The PSi could be used for reinforcing the NR/NBR vulcanizates while the silica from FA was regarded as a semi‐reinforcing and/or extending filler. The incorporation of CR or ENR enhanced the mechanical properties of the NR/NBR vulcanizates, the ENR being more effective and compatible with the blend. The mechanical properties of the NR/NBR vulcanizates were improved by post‐curing effect from thermal aging but deteriorated by the oil aging. Copyright © 2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Nitrile–butadiene rubber (NBR) has been blended with polychloroprene (CR) in a weight ratio of 1:1. The vulcanizing systems in the blend formulations were varied to obtain non crosslinked CR embedded in vulcanized NBR and non crosslinked NBR embedded in vulcanized CR. The effects of these two different phases on the rheological and mechanical characteristics were evaluated. In addition, the dynamic compliance of the blends was measured over wide ranges of frequency and temperature. It has been found that the mechanical and rheological properties of the vulcanized blends depend on the type of vulcanizing system, its concentration and the presence of reinforcing filler. The mechanical properties of the blend containing N‐cyclohexyl‐2‐benzthiazyl sulphenamide/S as vulcanizing system suitable for NBR are higher than those of the blend containing non‐sulfur vulcanizing system (Zno/Mgo and ethylene thiourea) suitable for CR. Both types of rubber (CR and NBR) in the blend are incompatible as two glass transition temperatures have been observed. Copyright © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The thermally stimulated current–thermal sampling (TSC–TS) technique was used to study the broadened glass transition in conventional “atactic” poly(vinyl chloride), PVC. The activated parameters obtained from the TSC–TS data, mainly the apparent activation energy (Ea), characterize the breadth of glass transitions in a very sensitive way. These results are compared with those values of Ea obtained from the literature, using a recently proposed method of analyzing a.c. dielectric constants and their derivatives, over the temperature range of −100–130°C. Both techniques detect weak cooperative glass transition-like relaxations well below the main glass transition of ca. 80°C. As is the case with “atactic” PMMA, the data suggest that compositional heterogeneity related to a small fraction of predominantly isotactic sequences contribute to the broad glass transition extending ca. 60°C below the main glass transition in atactic PVC. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A study of the melt‐rheological behavior of thermoplastic elastomers from high‐density polyethylene and acrylonitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) blends was carried out in a capillary rheometer. The effect of the blend ratio and shear rate on the melt viscosity reveals that the viscosity decreases with the shear rate but increases with NBR content. Compatibilization by maleic anhydride modified polyethylene has no significant effect on the blend viscosity, but a finer dispersion of the rubber is obtained, as is evident from scanning electron micrographs. The melt‐elasticity parameters, such as the die swell, principal normal stress difference, recoverable shear strain, and elastic shear modulus of the blends, were also evaluated. The effect of annealing on the morphology of the extrudate reveals that annealing in the extruder barrel results in the coalescence of rubber particles in the case of the incompatible blends, whereas the tendency toward agglomeration is somewhat suppressed in the compatibilized blends. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Acrylonitrile butadiene rubber (NBR)/poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) alloy, filled with anhydrous copper sulfate (CuSO4) particles, was investigated for the first time. The material could be crosslinked in the existence of CuSO4 by heat pressing, without any other crosslink agents. The crosslinking in the material was induced by in situ coordination between nitrile groups of NBR and solid CuSO4 particles, which is thoroughly different from the traditional vulcanization of rubber materials. The coordination crosslinking is formed during heat pressing, other than in solutions, which is valuable for practical applications. The resulting material showed excellent tensile properties, and the maximum strength was close to 90 MPa. The CuSO4 particles act not only as crosslink agents, but also as reinforcing fillers in the polymer matrix. In this work, dynamic mechanical analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, Fourier transform infrared spectrum, X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, scanning electron microscope, energy‐dispersive X‐ray spectrum, equilibrium swelling method, and tensile test were performed for the characterization of the material. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Hybrid blends of poly(amidoamine) PAMAM dendrimers with two linear high polymers, poly(vinyl chloride), PVC, and poly(vinyl acetate), PVAc, are reported. The interaction between the blend components was studied using dynamic mechanical analysis, xenon nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, and tensile property measurements. The data suggest a much higher degree of interaction between components of PVAc-containing blends compared to those containing PVC. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A novel rubber composite of acrylonitrile–butadiene rubber (NBR) filled with anhydrous copper sulfate (CuSO4) particles was investigated. Dynamic mechanical analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, tensile testing, and an equilibrium swelling method were used for the characterization of this novel CuSO4/NBR composite. The results indicated that the composite had wonderful mechanical properties, which profited from the in situ coordination crosslinking interactions between the nitrile groups (? CN) of NBR and solid CuSO4 particles. Scanning electron microscopy, energy‐dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy, and transmission electron microscopy results showed that CuSO4 particles played two roles, acting as both crosslink agents and reinforcing fillers in the matrix. The double actions of CuSO4 gave the CuSO4/NBR composites their excellent mechanical properties. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part B: Polym Phys 45: 571–576, 2007  相似文献
