We investigate the dual solutions for the MHD flow of micropolar fluid over a stretching/shrinking sheet with heat transfer. Suitable relations transform the partial differential equations into the ordinary differential equations.Closed forms solutions are also obtained in terms of confluent hypergeometric function. This is the first attempt to determine the exact solutions for the non-linear equations of MHD micropolar fluid model. It is demonstrated that the microrotation parameter helps in increasing Nusselt number and the dual solutions exist for all fluid flow parameters under consideration. The dual behavior of dimensionless velocity, temperature, microrotation, skin-friction coefficient, local Nusselt number is displayed on graphs and examined.  相似文献

The effects of transpiration on forced convection boundary layer non-Newtonian fluid flow and heat transfer toward a linearly stretching surface are reported. The flow is caused solely by the stretching of the sheet in its own plane with a velocity varying linearly with the distance from a fixed point. The constitutive relationship for the Casson fluid is used. The governing partial differential equations corresponding to the momentum and energy equations are converted into non-linear ordinary differential equations by using similarity transformations.Exact solutions of the resulting ordinary differential equations are obtained. The effect of increasing Casson parameter,i.e.,with decreasing yield stress(the fluid behaves as a Newtonian fluid as the Casson parameter becomes large),is to suppress the velocity field. However, the temperature is enhanced as the Casson parameter increases. It is observed that the effect of transpiration is to decrease the fluid velocity as well as the temperature. The skin-friction coefficient is found to increase as the transpiration parameter increases.  相似文献

In this study, the effects of variable fluid properties on heat transfer in MHD Casson fluid melts over a moving surface in a porous medium in the presence of the radiation are examined. The relevant similarity transformations are used to reduce the governing equations into a system of highly nonlinear ordinary differential equations and those are then solved numerically using the Runge–Kutta–Fehlbergmethod. The effects of different controlling parameters, namely, the Casson parameter, melting and radiation parameters, Prandtl number, magnetic field, porosity, viscosity and the thermal conductivity parameters on flow and heat transfer are investigated. The numerical results for the dimensionless velocity and temperature as well as friction factor and reducedNusselt number are presented graphically and discussed. It is found that the rate of heat transfer increases as the Casson parameter increases.  相似文献

A boundary layer analysis is presented for non-Newtonian fluid flow and heat transfer over a nonlinearly stretching surface. The Casson fluid model is used to characterize the non-Newtonian fluid behavior. By using suitable transformations, the governing partial differential equations corresponding to the momentum and energy equations are converted into non-linear ordinary differential equations. Numerical solutions of these equations are obtained with the shooting method. The effect of increasing Casson parameter is to suppress the velocity field. However the temperature is enhanced with the increasing Casson parameter.  相似文献

An analysis is carried out to study the steady two-dimensional stagnation-point flow and heat transfer from a warm, laminar liquid flow to a melting stretching/shrinking sheet. The governing partial differential equations are converted into ordinary differential equations by similarity transformation, before being solved numerically using the Runge-Kutta-Fehlberg method. Results for the skin friction coefficient, local Nusselt number, velocity profiles as well as temperature profiles are presented for different values of the governing parameters. Effects of the melting parameter, stretching/shrinking parameter and Prandtl number on the flow and heat transfer characteristics are thoroughly examined. Different from a stretching sheet, it is found that the solutions for a shrinking sheet are non-unique.  相似文献

In this article, we investigate the MHD tangent hyperbolic fluid flow along a stretching sheet with suction/injection effect at the boundary. The governing nonlinear partial differential equations are transformed into a set of nonlinear ordinary differential equations using the similarity transformation developed by the Lie group analysis. The transformed non-dimensional ordinary differential equations are solved numerically by a shooting technique. The impacts of the governing parameters on the fluid flow and heat transfer characteristics are investigated and discussed, with the help of graphical representations.  相似文献

Current study examines the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) boundary layer flow of a Casson nanofluid over an exponentially permeable shrinking sheet with convective boundary condition. Moreover, we have considered the suction/injection effects on the wall. By applying the appropriate transformations, system of non-linear partial differential equation along with the boundary conditions are transformed to couple non-linear ordinary differential equations. The resulting systems of non-linear ordinary differential equations are solved numerically using Runge-Kutta method. Numerical results for velocity, temperature and nanoparticle volume concentration are presented through graphs for various values of dimensionless parameters. Effects of parameters for heat transfer at wall and nanoparticle volume concentration are also presented through graphs and tables. At the end, fluid flow behavior is examined through stream lines. Concluding remarks are provided for the whole analysis.  相似文献

The idea of hybrid nanofluid has triggered many researchers because of its credential in improving the thermal characteristics. Hence, this study performed a mathematical analysis to evaluate the heat generation/absorption effect on magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) flow towards bidirectional exponential stretching/shrinking sheet of hybrid nanofluid. A system of ordinary differential equations was attained through a simplification of governing partial differential equations by employing appropriate similarity transformation and numerically determined via the bvp4c function in MATLAB programming system. The results revealed that the volume fraction of nanoparticle and magnetic parameter applied to the hybrid nanofluid improved the skin friction coefficient in the current work. The rate of heat transfer was strengthened by the intensity of the suction parameter, whereas the appearance of heat generation reduced the heat transfer rate performance. The results are proven to have dual solutions and lead to stability analysis implementation, hence confirming the first solution's achievability.  相似文献

In this analysis, the magnetohydrodynamic boundary layer flow of Casson fluid over a permeable stretching/shrinking sheet in the presence of wall mass transfer is studied.Using similarity transformations, the governing equations are converted to an ordinary differential equation and then solved analytically. The introduction of a magnetic field changes the behavior of the entire flow dynamics in the shrinking sheet case and also has a major impact in the stretching sheet case. The similarity solution is always unique in the stretching case, and in the shrinking case the solution shows dual nature for certain values of the parameters. For stronger magnetic field, the similarity solution for the shrinking sheet case becomes unique.  相似文献

The present study investigates a Casson fluid flow in the presence of free convection of combined heat and mass transfer toward an unsteady permeable stretching sheet with thermal radiation, viscous dissipation and chemical reaction. The governing partial differential equations are reduced to a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations and then solved by an efficient Runge–Kutta–Fehlberg method. The dimensionless velocity is decreased by increasing values of the chemical reaction and magnetic parameter while fluid temperature is significantly reduced by increasing values of the Prandtl number. The heat transfer rate is reduced with increasing values of thermal radiation and magnetic parameters.  相似文献

An analysis is carried out to study the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flow and heat transfer characteristics of an electrically conducting dusty non-Newtonian fluid, namely, the upper convected Maxwell (UCM) fluid over a stretching sheet. The stretching velocity and the temperature at the surface are assumed to vary linearly with the distance from the origin. Using a similarity transformation, the governing nonlinear partial differential equations of the model problem are transformed into coupled non-linear ordinary differential equations and the equations are solved numerically by a second order finite difference implicit method known as the Keller-box method. Comparisons with the available results in the literature are presented as a special case. The effects of the physical parameters on the fluid velocity, the velocity of the dust particle, the density of the dust particle, the fluid temperature, the dust-phase temperature, the skin friction, and the wall-temperature gradient are presented through tables and graphs. It is observed that, Maxwell fluid reduces the wall-shear stress. Also, the fluid particle interaction reduces the fluid temperature in the boundary layer. Furthermore, the results obtained for the flow and heat transfer characteristics reveal many interesting behaviors that warrant further study on the non-Newtonian fluid flow phenomena, especially the dusty UCM fluid flow phenomena.  相似文献

The magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) stagnation point flow of Casson nanofluid over a nonlinear stretching sheet in the presence of velocity slip and convective boundary condition is examined. In this analysis, various effects such as velocity ratio, viscous dissipation, heat generation/absorption and chemical reaction are accentuated. Possessions of Brownian motion and thermophoresis are also depicted in this study. A uniform magnetic field as well as suction is taken into account. Suitable similarity transformations are availed to convert the governing nonlinear partial differential equations to a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations and then series solutions are secured using a homotopy analysis method (HAM). Notable accuracy of the present results has been obtained with the earlier results. Impact of distinct parameters on velocity, temperature, concentration, skin friction coefficient,Nusselt number and Sherwood number is canvassed through graphs and tabular forms.  相似文献

Using the experimental relations for approximating the effective thermophysical properties of a water/MgO-Ag hybrid nanofluid is the novelty of the present investigation in order to simulate the two dimensional MHD Casson flow past a linearly stretching/shrinking sheet with suction, radiation and convective boundary condition effects. The dual solutions along with its stability analysis are also taken into account. The Tiwari-Das mathematical formulation coupled with mass-based hybrid nanofluid model is implemented to write the governing PDEs which are then transferred to a complicated system of dimensionless ODEs with help of the similarity transformation technique. Then a well-known finite difference method with forth order accuracy in MATLAB is employed to solve them. It is proved that the selective experimental relations for effective thermophysical models must be considered more serious in the numerical modeling of hybrid nanofluids in the future. Moreover, results indicate that the range of the Casson fluid parameter for which the solution exists, enhances with radiation parameter, suction parameter and also second nanoparticle mass. Also it is shown that the magnetic field which is applied normal to the sheet results in boost up the similarity velocity profiles into the hydrodynamic boundary layer.  相似文献

The main interest of the present work is to fundamentally investigate the flow characteristics and heat transfer of a hybrid Cu-Al2O3/water nanofluid due to a radially stretching/shrinking surface with the mutual effects of MHD, suction and Joule heating. The surface is permeable to physically allow the wall mass fluid suction. Tiwari and Das model of nanofluid is used with the new thermophysical properties of hybrid nanofluid to represent the problem. A similarity transformation is adopted to convert the governing model (PDEs) into a nonlinear set of ordinary differential equations (ODEs). A bvp4c solver in MATLAB software is employed to numerically compute the transformed system. The numerical results are discussed and graphically manifested in velocity and temperature profiles, as well as the skin friction coefficient and heat transfer rate with the pertinent values of the dimensionless parameters namely magnetic, Cu volume fraction, suction and Eckert number. The Eckert number has no impact on the boundary layer separation while the higher value of the suction parameter may affect the heat transfer performance. The presence of dual solutions (first and second) is seen on all the profiles within a limited range of the physical parameters. The stability analysis is executed, and it is validated that the first solution is the real solution.  相似文献

The present work is concerned with the effects of viscous dissipation and heat source/sink on a three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic boundary layer axisymmetric stagnation flow, and the heat transfer of an electrically conducting fluid over a sheet, which shrinks or stretches axisymmetrically in its own plane where the line of the symmetry of the stagnation flow and that of the shrinking (stretching) sheet are, in general, not aligned. The governing equations are transformed into ordinary differential equations by using suitable similarity transformations and then solved numerically by a shooting technique. This investigation explores the conditions of the non-existence, existence and uniqueness of the solutions of the similar equations numerically. It is noted that the range of the velocity ratio parameter, where the similarity solution exists, is increased with the increase of the value of the magnetic parameter. Furthermore, the study reveals that the non-alignment function affects the shrinking sheet more than the stretching sheet. In addition, the numerical results of the velocity profile, temperature profile, skin-friction coefficient, and rate of heat transfer at the sheet are discussed in detail with different parameters.  相似文献

Theoretical and numerical outcomes of the non-Newtonian Casson liquid thin film fluid flow owing to an unsteady stretching sheet which exposed to a magnetic field, Ohmic heating and slip velocity phenomena is reported here. The non-Newtonian thermal conductivity is imposed and treated as it vary with temperature. The nonlinear partial differential equations governing the non-Newtonian Casson thin film fluid are simplified into a group of highly nonlinear ordinary differential equations by using an adequate dimensionless transformations. With this in mind, the numerical solutions for the ordinary conservation equations are found using an accurate shooting iteration technique together with the Runge-Kutta algorithm. The lineaments of the thin film flow and the heat transfer characteristics for the pertinent parameters are discussed through graphs. The results obtained here detect many concern for the local Nusselt number and the local skin-friction coefficient in which they may be beneficial for the material processing industries. Furthermore, in some special conditions, the present problem has an excellent agreement with previously published work.  相似文献

The steady two-dimensional MHD stagnation point flow towards a stretching sheet with variable surface temperature is investigated. The governing system of partial differential equations are transformed into ordinary differential equations, which are then solved numerically using a finite-difference scheme known as the Keller-box method. The effects of the governing parameters on the flow field and heat transfer characteristics are obtained and discussed. It is found that the heat transfer rate at the surface increases with the magnetic parameter when the free stream velocity exceeds the stretching velocity, i.e. ε>1, and the opposite is observed when ε<1.  相似文献

The steady magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) mixed convection flow towards a vertical permeable surface with prescribed heat flux is investigated. The governing partial differential equations are transformed into a system of ordinary differential equations, which is then solved numerically by a finite-difference method. The features of the flow and heat transfer characteristics for different values of the governing parameters are analysed and discussed. Both assisting and opposing flows are considered. It is found that dual solutions exist for the assisting flow, besides the solutions usually reported in the literature for the opposing flow.  相似文献

The analysis of a viscous fluid flow and heat transfer is carried out under the influence of a constant applied magnetic field over a curved stretching sheet. Heat transfer analysis is carried out for two heating processes, namely, prescribed surface temperature (PST) and prescribed heat flux (PHF). The equations governing the flow are modeled in a curvilinear coordinate system (r, s, z). The nonlinear partial differential equations are then transformed to nonlinear ordinary differential equations by using similarity transformations. The obtained system of equations is solved numerically by a shooting method using Runge-Kutta algorithm. The interest lies in determining the influence of dimensionless radius of curvature on the velocity, temperature, skin friction, and rate of heat transfer at the wall prescribed by the Nusselt number. The effects of Hartmann number are also presented for the fluid properties of interest.  相似文献

This theoretical study investigates the microrotation effects on mixed convection flow induced by a stretching sheet. Casson fluid model along with microrotation is considered to model the governing flow problem. The system is assumed to undergo internal heating phenomenon. The governing physical problem is transformed into system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations using scaling group of transformations. These equations are solved numerically using Runge Kutta Fehlberg scheme coupled with shooting technique. Influence of sundry parameters for the case of strong and weak concentration of microelements on velocity, temperature, skin friction and local heat flux at the surface are computed and discussed. Lower skin friction and heat flux is observed for the case of weak concentration(n = 0.5)compared to strong concentration of microelements(n = 0.0) near the wall.  相似文献
