By exposure to low fluence UV laser radiation, the optical absorption coefficient of subsurface polymer material can be increased (incubation) with spatial control, using a suitable contact mask, proper imaging of the mask, or laser direct writing. Spatially selective ablation of polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) is then achieved with large area XeCl excimer laser pulses at 308 nm. In this way, the transfer of spatial information to the material can be decoupled from the high laser fluence removal (ablation) step. The advantages are: The mask is exposed to only low fluence laser radiation — damage is avoided. Since the mask can be removed before the ablation step, mask contamination by the ablated plume cannot occur. Using this incubation/ablation method, PMMA surfaces can be patterned (248 nm/308 nm) with submicrometer spatial control and edge contrasts better than 0.2 m. This has impact on optical storage technology and laser surface processing techniques in general. Additive pulse mode locking applied to lamppumped Nd: YAG lasers results in an attractive source of picosecond pulses at 1.06 m or 1.32 m with average powers at the Watt level. We provide detailed information on construction and operation and give data on performance. A modified active stabilization scheme allows not only improved stability of operation but also insight into the dynamics of pulse formation.  相似文献

We investigate the Finkelstein-Misner geons for a non-simply-connected space-time manifold (M, g 0). We use relations between different Lorentzian structures unequivalent tog 0 and topological properties ofM given by the Morse theory. It implies that to some pieces of geons we have to associate Wheeler's worm-holes. Geons that correspond to time-orientable Lorentz structures are related tog 0 by Morse functions that describe the attaching of a handle of index one. In the case of geons associated to time-nonorientable Lorentzian structures, appropriate handles are related to loops along which the notion of time reverses. If we assume electromagnetic properties of geons, then only four species, v, e, p, m, of different geons can exist and geon m has to decay according to mv+p+e.  相似文献

We report a high-power source of coherent picosecond light pulses based on optical parametric generation and amplification in LiB3O5 and AgGaS2 crystals. The spectral range of this continuously tunable source covers the visible, near-infrared and medium-infrared spectrum from 0.41 to 12.9 m. An optical parametric generator and amplifier, consisting of two type-I phase-matched LiB3O5 crystals and a diffraction grating, is pumped by the third harmonic of a picosecond Nd:YAG laser and provides spectrally narrow, high-power pulses from 0.41 to 2.4 m. Energy conversion efficiencies up to 16 percent are achieved. The pulse duration is about 14 ps, the bandwidth between 10 and 30 cm–1. The tuning range is extended to 12.9 m by mixing the infrared output between 1.16 and 2.13 m with the fundamental of the Nd:YAG laser in type-I-phase-matched AgGaS2 crystals. Up to 25 percent of the pulse energy at 1.064 m is converted into parametric infrared pulses. Bandwidths between 3 and 8 cm–1 and a pulse duration of approximately 19 ps are measured for these pulses. We also observe a retracing behaviour in the tuning curve of AgGaS2 not reported before.  相似文献

Results are reported of investigations aimed at generating nanosecond radiation pulses in solid-state lasers using new active media having broad gain lines. Passive mode locking is accomplished for the first time in a BeLa:Nd3+ laser at a wavelength 1.354 m, and in a YAG:Nd3+ laser on a 1.32–m transition. The free lasing and mode-locking regimes were investigated in an alexandrite (BeAl2O4:Cr3+) laser in the 0.72–0.78–m range and in a synchronously pumped laser on F 2- centers in LiF in the 1.12–1.24–m region. The features of nonlinear perception of IR radiation by the eye, using a developed picosecond laser on F2 centers, are investigated for the first time.Translated from Lazernye Sistemy, pp. 67–86, 1982.  相似文献

The response of polycrystalline Tl–Ba–Ca–Cu–O superconducting thin films on short laser pulses has been investigated for radiation between 10 m and 500 m wavelength. Fast signals with time constants less than 1 ns were observed for wavelengths longer than about 100 m whereas for shorter wavelengths only a bolometric signal could be detected.  相似文献

Nonlinear optical absorption properties of silicate glasses doped by the PbS nanocrystals were investigated by means of the picosecond pump-probe absorption spectroscopy and absorption bleaching technique. The glass samples were used as saturable absorbers for passive mode-locking of Nd:YAG and Nd:glass lasers. Application of the PbS doped glass together with the active mode-locking and laser cavity quality control enabled the stable of generation of 28 ps and 5 ps duration pulses in Nd:YAG and Nd:glass lasers respectively. Time-resolved measurements of picosecond optical breakdown   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
Picosecond optical breakdown was investigated in order to assess its potential for performing highly localized incisions for laser surgery. Measurements of breakdown were performed using single 40-ps Nd: YAG laser pulses in distilled water. Novel optical pump-probe techniques were developed to characterize the transient spatial and temporal dynamics of the plasma, shock wave, and cavitation phenomena which are associated with the breakdown. The maximum cavity radius and the shock wave zone are shown to scale as the cube root of the pump pulse energy over almost three orders of magnitude. For pulse energies close to the threshold energy of 8 J, the shock range was 100–200 m and the cavity radius was 140 m. Complementary experiments were performed with 10-ns pulse durations. Since picosecond pulses have high peak intensities with low pulse energies, a significant enhancement in localizability may be achieved. The implications for ophthalmic microsurgery are discussed.  相似文献

It is shown that the foliation of a space-time manifold of codimension 2 provides a basis for the study of the deformation of magnetic field lines. It is found that the fluid flow vector and the curvature vector of a nongeodesic stiff magnetic field line are always orthogonal. Further, it is shown that the metric tensor of the 2-space orthogonal to the Maxwellian string is Lie-transported along the magnetic field lines when the magnetic field lines are stiff. If there exists a spacelike Killing vector field parallel to the magnetic field, then the magnetic field lines must be stiff.  相似文献

The basic equations of the dynamics of the continuous distribution of dislocations analogical to Maxwell equations are derived in a series of papers [I, II, III]. The analogy of the elastic and electromagnetic fields is analyzed. In part [III] some special problems are discussed, such as the density of the forces acting on the dislocations, the energy dissipation during the movement of dislocations, which is expressed by an equation analogical to Ohm's law. The equations derived in the previous parts in four-dimensional symbolics are considered in the three-dimensional differential and integral form. It is found that in special cases the relations become the known ones of elastodynamics, hydrodynamics and the static theory of the continuous distribution of dislocations. It is found that Kröner's method of integrating the equations of the dislocation field by means of so-called incompatibility tensors is analogical to the integration of the Maxwell equations by means of Hertz vectors. The analogy between the elastic dislocation field and the electromagnetic field is discussed in detail.

Reliable Q-switched operation of a cladding-pumped 2.7m ZBLAN fibre laser in the range of the power limit of self-destruction is shown for the first time. The laser is pumped by a multimode diode. Q-switching is achieved by two different techniques: a rotating mirror and an acousto-optical modulator. Pulse widths of 500ns with the rotating mirror and 300ns (FWHM) with the acousto-optical modulator and pulse energies in the J range are achieved.  相似文献

A detailed study of the gain dynamics of the pulsed, optically pumped 4.3 m CO2 laser is described. Small-signal gain coefficients as high as 14%/cm are measured in a 4.3 m amplifier using low-power pulses from a 4.3 m probe laser. The measurements are compared with a rate-equation model and good quantitative agreement is obtained. The model, which uses no adjustable parameters, is described in detail. Gain is studied as a function of optical pumping power, gas mixture, gas pressure and discharge excitation of the 4.3 m amplifier. Optimization of the gain is discussed.  相似文献

Three-photon absorption and three-photon-induced excited-state absorption of rutile are studied by transmission measurements using picosecond pulses of a mode-locked Nd: glass laser. The nonlinear absorption limits efficient stimulated Raman scattering. It reduces the efficiency of two-photon absorption of a picosecond probe continuum. Three-photon absorption coefficients, excited-state absorption cross sections, a Raman gain factor, and two-photon absorption cross-section spectra are determined. On the basis of general summation formulae for light reflected and transmitted by a thin film the author derives formulae for a thin dielectric film, for a thin metallic film and for a system of thin dielectric films. This solution is based on Stokes's principle of reversibility, which is the idea unifying the cases into one theory. In conclusion he gives the solution of a general case, dealing with light reflected and transmitted by a system of thin dielectric and metallic films.

Wavelength distribution in the focus of a Johansson type monochromator is computed assuming the tube focus emissivityG(), reflection curveR() and wavelength distribution of the incident radiationJ(-0) are known. It is shown e.g. that the centre of gravity may be shifted in accordance with the position of the crystal on the focal circle which may considerably influence precision measurements of lattice parameters.

As a base for the theory of moving striations a partial integro-differential equation (26) is derived from the equations of continuity (1), (2), the Laplace-Poisson equation (3) and relation (4) between the electric field and the temperature of the electrons. Apart from the processes necessary for the actual formation of striations according to [1] and for the amplification of the wave of stratification according to [2], the equation also includes the processes defining the Debye length of the electrons, the influence of the axial electric field and of its local deflections on the motion of current carriers and the direct influence of the deviations in concentration of the electrons on the rate of production of current carriers. In deriving the equation the main attention is paid to the physical sense of the mathematical operations applied. The general solution is found by the method of the two-sided Laplace transformation and is described by triple integral convolution (42).

The damping of particle oscillations in a general field with periodic structure I
A liner theory is derived, discussing the dynamics of particles in the region of an equilibrium orbit in a general electromagnetic field, which forms a periodic system. The total particle damping is determined from the Hamiltonian found and from dissipative forces brought out by a classical reaction radiation. Relations for the damping of the synchrotron oscillations are derived from the study of the appropriate phase space.
