In this work, new investigations on the effect of comonomer sequential structure on the thermal and crystallization behaviors and biodegradability have been implemented for the biodegradable poly(butylene succinate‐co‐butylene terephthalate) (PBST) as well as aliphatic poly(butylene succinate) (PBS). At first, these copolyesters were efficiently synthesized from dimethyl succinate and/or dimethyl terephthalate and 1,4‐butanediol via condensation polymerization in bulk. Subsequently, their molecular weights and macromolecular chain structures were analyzed by gel permeation chromatography (GPC) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. By means of differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and wide‐angle X‐ray diffractometer (WAXD), thermal and crystallization behaviors of these synthesized aromatic–aliphatic copolyesters were further explored. It was demonstrated that the synthesized copolyesters were revealed to have random comonomer sequential structures with thermal and crystallization properties strongly depending on their comonomer molar compositions, and that crystal lattice structures of the new crystallizable copolyesters shifted from the monoclinic crystal of semicrystalline PBS to triclinic lattice of the poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT) with increasing the terephthalate comonomer composition, and the minor comonomer components were suggested to be trapped in the crystallizable component domains as defects. In addition, the enzymatic degradability was also characterized for the copolyesters film samples. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part B: Polym Phys 44: 1635–1644, 2006 相似文献

Hydrogen bonding interaction and crystallization behavior of poly (butylene succinate‐co‐butylene adipate)/thiodiphenol complexes 下载免费PDF全文
The poly (butylene succinate‐co‐butylene adipate) (PBSA)/thiodiphenol (TDP) complexes were prepared by melt blending. Intermolecular hydrogen bonding between carbonyl group of PBSA and hydroxyl group of TDP formed as verified by a combination FTIR and peak fitting technique. As a result, the crystallization temperature, melting temperature, crystallinity and crystallization rate of PBSA decreased with addition of TDP, implying impeded crystallization and reduced lamellar thickness. On the basis of Lauritzen–Hoffman analysis, the fold surface energy (σe) and work of chain folding (q) were increased by TDP incorporation. POM observation exhibited concentric ring‐banded spherulites for samples with 10 and 20 wt% TDP. A peculiar ring‐banded pattern with discrepant band spacing was obtained for the first time by addition of 30 wt% TDP, whose formation mechanism remains to be discussed. The study of the nonisothermal crystallization behavior of layered silicates micro‐ and nano‐biocomposites based on poly(butylene adipate‐co‐terephthalate) (PBAT), a biodegradable copolyester, has been carried out with different theoretical models. They were applied and developed with the aim to describe and better understand the influence of the layered silicates dispersion on crystallization. The nucleation efficiency of the layered silicates has been demonstrated with the use of the “Modified Avrami model,” thanks to the higher crystallization rate parameter, Zc, and of the lower crystallization half‐time, t1/2, compared to the neat matrix. The crystallization activation energies, Ea, calculated from “Kissinger's model” have shown that layered silicates have a negative effect on the crystallite growth process. Thus, these analyses have shown that layered silicates have a double effect on the crystallization process. These two opposites' phenomena depend on the dispersion quality and are more pronounced for the intercalated nano‐biocomposites. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The crystallization kinetics of biodegradable poly(butylene succinate‐co‐adipate) (PBS/A) copolyester was investigated by using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and polarized optical microscopy (POM), respectively. The Avrami and Ozawa equations were used to analyze the isothermal and nonisothermal crystallization kinetics, respectively. By using wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction (WAXD), PBS/A was identified to have the same crystal structure with that of PBS. The spherulitic growth rates of PBS/A measured in isothermal conditions are very well comparable with those measured by nonisothermal procedures (cooling rates ranged from 0.5 to 15 °C/min). The kinetic data were examined with the Hoffman–Lauritzen nucleation theory. The observed spherulites of PBS/A with different shapes and textures strongly depend on the crystallization temperatures. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The crystallization behavior of biodegradable poly(butylene succinate) and copolyesters poly(butylene succinate‐co‐propylene succinate)s (PBSPS) was investigated by using 1H NMR, DSC and POM, respectively. Isothermal crystallization kinetics of the polyesters has been analyzed by the Avrami equation. The 2.2‐2.8 range of Avrami exponential n indicated that the crystallization mechanism was a heterogeneous nucleation with spherical growth geometry in the crystallization process of polyesters. Multiple melting peaks were observed during heating process after isothermal crystallization, and it could be explained by the melting and recrystallization model. PBSPS was identified to have the same crystal structure with that of PBS by using wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction (WAXD), suggesting that only BS unit crystallized while the PS unit was in an amorphous state. The crystal structure of polyesters was not affected by the crystallization temperatures, too. Besides the normal extinction crosses under the POM, the double‐banded extinction patterns with periodic distance along the radial direction were also observed in the spherulites of PBS and PBSPS. The morphology of spherulites strongly depended on the crystallization temperature. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part B: Polym Phys 45: 420–428, 2007 相似文献

The biodegradation of aromatic‐aliphatic biodegradable polyester poly (butylene adipate‐co‐terephthalate) (PBAT) was studied under mesophilic (37°C) and thermophilic (55°C) anaerobic conditions. Anaerobic sludge from municipal wastewater treatment plant was utilized as an inoculum. Non‐isothermal crystallization kinetics of PBAT before and after biodegradation was explored by differential scanning calorimetry. Under mesophilic anaerobic conditions (37°C), the biodegradation after 126 days was only 2.2%, molecular weight changed from 93 000 to 25 500 g/mol, and the crystallization behavior was changed only slightly. However, biodegradation under thermophilic anaerobic conditions (55°C) caused much bigger changes: biodegradation according to biogas production reached after 126 days 8.3%, molecular weight changed from 93 000 to 9430 g/mol, and the crystallization behavior was changed significantly. While Tm increased only slightly, Tc on the other hand increased significantly for the sample after biodegradation at 55°C. Also, the crystallization rate was slower (particularly at lower cooling rates), but crystallinity was slightly higher. The diffraction pattern was observed by X‐ray diffraction. 相似文献

Poly(L ‐lactide) (PLLA)/poly(butylene succinate‐co‐butylene adipate) (PBSA) blends were compounded with Cloisite 25A® (C25A) and C25A functionalized with epoxy groups, respectively. Epoxy groups on the surface of C25A were introduced by treating C25A with (glycidoxypropyl)trimethoxy silane (GPS) to produce so called Twice Functionalized Organoclay (TFC). Variation of morphology and properties of PLLA/PBSA/C25A composites was investigated before and after the treatment with GPS. The morphological structure of the composites was analyzed by using X‐ray diffractometry (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The silicate layers of PLLA/PBSA/TFC were exfoliated to a larger extent than PLLA/PBSA/C25A. Incorporation of the epoxy groups on C25A improved significantly elongation at break as well as tensile modulus and tensile strength of PLLA/PBSA/C25A. The larger amount of exfoliation of the silicate layers in PLLA/PBSA/TFC as compared with that in PLLA/PBSA/C25A was attributed to the increased interfacial interaction between the polyesters and the clay due to chemical reaction. Thermo gravimetric analysis revealed that both T5%, which was the temperature corresponding to 5% weight loss, and activation energy of thermal decomposition of PLLA/PBSA/TFC were far superior to those of PLLA/PBSA/C25A as well as to those of PLLA/PBSA, indicating that the composites with exfoliated silicate layers were more thermally stable than those with intercalated silicate layers. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) are appealing nanomaterials for the reinforcement of polymeric materials. It is now well established that high mechanical properties are obtained when preparing the nanocomposite by casting/evaporation methods and using CNC contents above the percolation threshold. This phenomenon results from the formation of a stiff CNC network within the matrix meaning that the properties of the matrix play only a limited role on the mechanical properties of the material when the matrix is in the rubbery state. In subpercolation concentration or when using a different processing technique, the level of understanding is less clear, mainly when the CNC‐induced crystallization of the matrix interferes with the reinforcing mechanism. In this study, we used CNCs with different aspect ratios to prepare nanocomposites by extrusion with polybutyrate adipate terephthalate as matrix. The impact of CNC on the crystallinity of the matrix and mechanical properties of the nanocomposite has been investigated. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part B: Polym. The block copolymers of poly(butylene succinate) (PBS) and poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT) were synthesized by melt processing for different times. The sequence distribution, thermal properties, and crystallization behavior were investigated over a wide range of compositions. For PBS/PBT block copolymers it was confirmed by statistical analysis from 1H-NMR data that the degree of randomness (B) was below 1. The melting peak (Tm) gradually moved to lower temperature with increasing melt processing time. It can be seen that the transesterification between PBS and PBT leads to a random copolymer. From the X-ray diffraction diagrams, only the crystal structure of PBS appeared in the M1 copolymer (PBS 80 wt %) and that of PBT appeared in the M3 (PBS 50 wt %) to M5 (PBS 20 wt %) copolymers. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Clearly knowing the structural responses of polymers to the treatment conditions is essential to regulate their final properties during industrial processing such as spinning, extrusion, injection, and blow molding. In this work, we reported the changes of hierarchical structure in poly(butylene succinate‐co‐terephthalate) (PBST) copolymer upon application of synchronous stimuli via uniaxial stretching at varying temperatures. The lamellae melting and the transition of crystal structure from α to β form in PBST copolymer always presented at the early stage of the deformation at different temperatures. The lamellae oriented to about ± (40–50)° direction as the yielding response to the stimuli. Upon further stretching, the oriented lamellae were freshly and progressively formed at high temperature, whose morphology was controllable by regulating the synchronous stimuli. Furthermore, a schematic for the structural responses to the synchronous stimuli was proposed. The structural responses of PBST copolymer under such synchronous stimuli are beneficial to tailor the final properties of the products in the form of fibers, films, plastics, and so forth, which also can provide new insights into the design and development of other copolymers. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The melting behavior of poly(butylene succinate‐co‐adipate) (PBSA) isothermally crystallized from the melt was investigated by differential scanning calorimetry. Triple, double, or single melting endotherms were observed in subsequent heating scan for the samples isothermally crystallized at different temperatures. These endothermic peaks were labeled as I, II, and III for low‐, middle‐, and high‐temperature melting endotherms, respectively. The independence of endotherm III to the crystallization temperature, the existence of an exothermic crystallization peak just below the endotherm III, and the heating rate dependence of endotherm III indicated that endotherm III was due to the remelting of recrystallized lamellar during a heating scan. The influence of crystallization time on the melting behavior of PBSA showed that endotherms II and III developed prior to endotherm I; endotherm III developed rather simultaneously with endotherm II. Further investigation showed that the peak temperature of endotherm I increased linearly with the logarithm of the crystallization time. It suggested that endotherm II was attributed to the melting of the primary lamellae, while endotherm I was due to the melting of secondary lamellae. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We evaluated the relationship between the ionic substituents and nonisothermal crystallization behavior in poly(butylene succinate) (PBS) ionomers, synthesized by the introduction of sulfonated dimethyl fumarate (SDMF) with sodium sulfonate. In addition, we investigated the effect of sodium ions on the molecular structure of the PBS backbone by solid‐state 23Na NMR analysis. Sodium ion aggregates (multiplets) was predominately created with the ionic group concentration, and melt rheology and dynamic melt analysis results showed that multiplet formation induced not only remarkable heterogeneity, but also a high degree of clustering in the PBS chains. At low ionic group concentration, well dispersed multiplets behaved as effective nuclei during the crystallization of the PBS ionomer and accelerated the rate of crystallization. As ionic group concentration grew higher, crystallization rates decreased due to hindered chain mobility by clusters consisting of numerous multiplets. A combined Ozawa and Avrami equation proved to be more effective than the Ozawa equation in describing the nonisothermal crystallization kinetics of PBS and its ionomers. The observed nucleation activity indicates that the nonisothermal crystallization rate is not directly proportional to the ionic group concentration. Superior nucleation activity was observed in PBS ionomer containing 1 mol % SDMF. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part B: Polym Phys 46: 925–937, 2008 相似文献

Segmented copolyesters, namely, poly(butylene terephthalate)–poly(ethylene terephthalate‐co‐isophthalate‐co‐sebacate) (PBT‐PETIS), were synthesized with the melting transesterification processing in vacuo condition involving bulk polyester produced on a large scale (PBT) and ternary amorphous random copolyester (PETIS). Investigations on the morphology of segmented copolyesters were undertaken. The two‐phase morphology model was confirmed by transmission electron microscopy and dynamic mechanical thermal analysis. One of the phases was composed of crystallizable PBT, and the other was a homogeneous mixture of PETIS and noncrystallizable PBT. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Synthesis and non‐isothermal crystallization kinetics of poly(ethylene terephthalate)‐co‐poly(propylene glycol) copolymers 下载免费PDF全文
Poly(ethylene terephthalate)‐co‐poly(propylene glycol) (PET‐co‐PPG) copolymers with PPG ratio ranging from 0 to 0.90 mol% were synthesized by the melt copolycondensation. The intrinsic viscosity, structure, non‐isothermal crystallization behavior, nucleation and spherulitic growth of the copolymers were investigated by Ubbelohde viscometer, Proton Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (1H‐NMR), differential scanning calorimetry, and polarized optical microscopy, respectively. The non‐isothermal crystallization process of the copolymers was analyzed by Avrami, Ozawa, Mo's, Kissinger, and Dobreva methods, respectively. The results showed that the crystallizability of PET was apparently enhanced with incorporating a small amount of PPG, which first rose and then reduced with increasing amount of PPG in the copolymers at a given cooling rate. The crystallization mechanism was a three‐dimensional growth with both instantaneous and sporadic nucleation. Particularly, PET‐co‐PPG containing 0.60 mol% PPG exhibited the highest crystallizability among all the copolymers. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. 相似文献

Different crystallization kinetic models (Avrami and Tobin) have been applied to study the crystallization kinetics of virgin poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT) and filled PBT systems under isothermal experimental conditions. The experimental data have been analyzed with a nonlinear, multivariable regression program. The kinetic parameters for the isothermal crystallization have been determined. The analysis results indicate that both models satisfactorily represent the isothermal crystallization kinetics. PBT crystallizes most slowly. The presence of nanoclays or nanofibers, added as fillers, enhances the crystallization rate of PBT composites. An analysis of the kinetic data with the Avrami and Tobin models has shown little change in the crystallization exponent compared with that of virgin PBT. The crystallization rate constant decreases with a rise in the temperature for the two models. This trend has been observed for similar polyester systems reported in the literature. The dispersion of the clay layers in the PBT nanocomposites has been characterized with wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Transparent plasticized gels with good mechanical, optical, and dielectric properties have important applications in various fields. We prepared a new gel using a poly(butylene terephthalate)‐co‐poly(alkylene glycol terephthalate) (PBT‐co‐PAGT) copolymer and a plasticizer, dibutyl adipate (DBA). This method improved the polymer crystallinity, and suppressed particle formation in cast‐films when the polymer was dissolved in 1,1,1,3,3,3‐hexafluoro‐2‐propanol, followed by solvent evaporation, and enabled uniform swelling of the polymer network by the plasticizer to form a transparent and flexible gel. The dielectric constants of the developed PBT‐co‐PAGT/DBA gels are much higher than those of PBT‐co‐PAGT films at low frequency. We believe that these PBT‐co‐PAGT/DBA gels could be used as photovoltaic, dielectric, and actuator materials. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part B: Polym. In this study, novel biodegradable materials were successfully generated, which have excellent mechanical properties in air during usage and storage, but whose structure easily disintegrates when immersed in water. The materials were prepared by melt blending poly(L ‐lactic acid) (PLLA) and poly(butylene adipate‐co‐terephthalate) (PBAT) with a small amount of oligomeric poly(aspartic acid‐co‐lactide) (PAL) as a degradation accelerator. The degradation behavior of the blends was investigated by immersing the blend films in phosphate‐buffered saline (pH = 7.3) at 40 °C. It was shown that the PAL content and composition significantly affected morphology, mechanical properties, and hydrolysis rate of the blends. It was observed that the blends containing PAL with higher molar ratios of L ‐lactyl [LA]/[Asp] had smaller PBAT domain size, showing better mechanical properties when compared with those containing PAL with lower molar ratios of [LA]/[Asp]. The degradation rates of both PLLA and PBAT components in the ternary blends simultaneously became higher for the blends containing PAL with higher molar ratios of [LA]/[Asp]. It was confirmed that the PLLA component and its decomposed materials efficiently catalyze the hydrolytic degradation of the PBAT component, but by contrast that the PBAT component and its decomposed materials do not catalyze the hydrolytic degradation of the PLLA component in the blends. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
