Triblock copolymers of N‐vinylpyrrolidone (NVP) and polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) were synthesized by reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization using two different types of difunctional telechelic PDMS‐based dixanthate macroinitiators. The incorporation of PDMS into the triblock copolymers was evidenced by 1H NMR spectroscopy and varied between 4 mol % and as high as 20 mol %, dependent on reaction time and monomer conversion. The copolymer homogeneity was characterized in terms of molecular weight distribution determined by GPC to estimate the level of control over the chain length. Monomodal molecular weight distributions were observed, and 1H NMR spectroscopy indicated the copolymers had number average molecular weights (Mn) ranging between 28,000 and 160,000 g/mol. In addition, thin film phase separation and critical micelle concentrations for these copolymers were analyzed via transmission electron microscopy and surface tension measurements, respectively. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Statistical copolymers of N-vinylpyrrolidone (NVP) with benzyl methacrylate (BzMA) were prepared by Reversible Addition-Fragmentation chain Transfer Polymerization (RAFT), employing three different xanthates as RAFT agents: [(O-ethylxanthyl)methyl]benzene, [1-(O-ethylxanthyl)ethyl]benzene and O-ethyl S-(phthalimidylmethyl) xanthate. The reactivity ratios were estimated using the Fineman-Ross, inverted Fineman-Ross, Kelen-Tüdos and extended Kelen-Tüdos linear graphical methods, as well as the computer program COPOINT. Structural parameters of the copolymers were obtained by calculating the dyad sequence fractions and the mean sequence length. All the methods are in agreement that the probability for the incorporation of BzMA units is much greater than for that of NVP units. The glass-transition temperature (Tg) values of the copolymers were measured by Differential Scanning Calorimetry and examined by means of several theoretical equations, allowing for the prediction of these Tg values. Subsequently, a systematic and detailed investigation of the thermal degradation of these copolymers compared with that of the respective homopolymers, was carried out by Thermogravimetric Analysis, within the framework of the Ozawa-Flynn-Wall and Kissinger methodologies. As expected, the thermal stability of the copolymers is influenced by the structure of the substituents of the thiocarbonylthio end groups due to the RAFT agents. 相似文献

Poly(2‐(diethylamino)ethyl methacrylate) (PDEAEMA) homopolymers with low polydispersities were synthesized by reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) radical polymerization. The performances of two chain transfer agents, 2‐cyanoprop‐2‐yl dithiobenzoate and 4‐cyanopentanic acid dithiobenzoate (CPADB), were compared. It was found that the polymerization of 2‐(diethylamino) ethyl methylacrylate was under good control in the presence of CPADB with 4,4′‐azobis(4‐cyanopentanoic acid) (ACPA) as initiator in 1,4‐dioxane at 70 °C. The kinetic behaviors were investigated under different CPADB/ACPA molar ratios. A long polymerization inhibition period was observed at high [CPADB]/[ACPA] ratio. The influences of [CPADB]/[ACPA] ratio, monomer/[CPADB] ratio, and temperature were studied with respect to monomer conversion, molecular weight control, and polydispersity index (PDI). The PDI decreased from 1.21 to 1.12, as the CPADB/ACPA molar ratio changed from 2 to 10. The molecular weight of PDEAEMA could be controlled by monomer/CPADB molar ratio. The control over MW and PDI was improved as the temperature increased from 60 to 70 °C; however, an additional increase to 80 °C led to a loss of control. Using PDEAEMA macroRAFT agent, pH/thermo double‐responsive block copolymers of PDEAEMA and poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PDEAEMA‐b‐PNIPAM) with narrow polydispersity (PDI, 1.24) were synthesized. The lower critical solution temperature of PDEAEMA‐b‐PNIPAM block copolymer depended on the environmental pH. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 46: 3294–3305, 2008 相似文献

We report the direct homopolymerization and block copolymerization of 2‐aminoethyl methacrylate (AEMA) via aqueous reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization. The controlled “living” polymerization of AEMA was carried out directly in aqueous buffer using 4‐cyanopentanoic acid dithiobenzoate (CTP) as the chain transfer agent (CTA), and 2,2′‐azobis(2‐imidazolinylpropane) dihydrochloride (VA‐044) as the initiator at 50 °C. The controlled “living” character of the polymerization was verified with pseudo‐first order kinetic plots, a linear increase of the molecular weight with conversion, and low polydispersities (PDIs) (<1.2). In addition, well‐defined copolymers of poly(AEMA‐b‐HPMA) have been prepared through chain extension of poly(AEMA) macroCTA with N‐(2‐hydroxypropyl)methacrylamide (HPMA) in water. It is shown that the macroCTA can be extended in a controlled fashion resulting in near monodisperse block copolymers. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The poly(ethylene glycol)/poly(2‐(N,N‐dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate) (PEG/PDMAEMA) double hydrophilic block copolymers were synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization using mPEG‐Br or Br‐PEG‐Br as macroinitiators. The narrow molecular weight distribution of PEG/PDMAEMA block copolymers was identified by gel permeation chromatography results. The thermosensitivity of PEG/PDMAEMA block copolymers in aqueous solution was revealed to depend significantly on pH, ionic strength, chain structure, and concentration of the block copolymers. By optimizing these factors, the cloud point temperature of PEG/PDMAEMA block copolymers can be limited within body temperature range (30–37 °C), which suggests that PEG/PDMAEMA block copolymers could be a good candidate for drug delivery systems. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Stimuli‐responsive amphiphilic PDMAEMA‐b‐PLMA copolymers and their cationic and zwitterionic analogs
《Journal of polymer science. Part A, Polymer chemistry》2018,56(6):598-610
In this work, the synthesis and characterization of novel amphiphilic diblock copolymers of poly(2‐dimethylamino ethyl methacrylate)‐b‐poly(lauryl methacrylate), PDMAEMA‐b‐PLMA, using the reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization technique, are reported. The diblocks were successfully derivatized to cationic and zwitterionic block polyelectrolytes by quaternization and sulfobetainization of the PDMAEMA block, respectively. Furthermore, their molecular and physicochemical characterization was performed by using characterization techniques such as NMR and FTIR, size exclusion chromatography, light scattering techniques, and transmission electron microscopy. The structure of the diblock micelles, their behavior, and properties in aqueous solution were investigated under the effect of pH, temperature, and ionic strength, as PDMAEMA and its derivatives are stimuli‐responsive polymers and exhibit responses to variations of at least one of these physicochemical parameters. These new families of stimuli‐responsive block copolymers respond to changes of their environment giving interesting nanostructures, behavioral motifs, and properties, rendering them useful as nanocarriers for drug delivery and gene therapy. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) miniemulsion polymerization of butyl methacrylate (BMA) and dodecafluoroheptyl methacrylate (DFMA) was carried out with 2‐cyanoprop‐2‐yl dithiobenzoate (CPDB) as chain transfer agent (CTA). Concentration effects of RAFT agent and initiator on kinetics and molecular weight were investigated. No obvious red oil layer (phase's separation) and coagulation was observed in the first stage of homopolymerization of BMA. The polymer molecular weights increased linearly with the monomer conversion with polydispersities lower than 1.2. At 75 °C, the monomer conversion could achieve above 96% in 3 h with [momomer]:[RAFT]:[KPS] = 620:4:1 (mole ratio). The results showed excellent controlled/living polymerization characteristics and a very fast polymerization rate. Furthermore, the synthesis of poly(BMA‐b‐DFMA) diblock copolymers with a regular structure (PDI < 1.30, PMMA calibration) was performed by adding the monomer of DFMA at the end of the RAFT miniemulsion polymerization of BMA. The success of diblock copolymerization was showed by the molecular weight curves shifting toward higher molar mass, recorded by gel permeation chromatography before and after block copolymerization. Compositions of block copolymers were further confirmed by 1H NMR, FTIR, and DSC analysis. The copolymers exhibited a phase‐separated morphology and possessed distinct glass transition temperatures associated with fluoropolymer PDFMA and PBMA domains. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Four families of hyperbranched amphiphilic block copolymers of styrene (Sty, less polar monomer) and 2‐vinylpyridine (2VPy, one of the two more polar monomers) or 4‐vinylpyridine (4VPy, the other polar monomer) were prepared via self‐condensing vinyl reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer polymerization (SCVP‐RAFT). Two families contained 4VPy as the more polar monomer, one of which possessing a Sty‐b‐4VPy architecture, and the other possessing the reverse block architecture. The other two families bore 2VPy as the more polar monomer and had either a 2VPy‐b‐Sty or a Sty‐b‐2VPy architecture. Characterization of the hyperbranched block copolymers in terms of their molecular weights and compositions indicated better control when the VPy monomers were polymerized first. Control over the molecular weights of the hyperbranched copolymers was also confirmed with the aminolysis of the dithioester moiety at the branching points to produce linear polymers with number‐average molecular weights slightly greater than the theoretically expected ones, due to recombination of the resulting thiol‐terminated linear polymers. The amphiphilicity of the hyperbranched copolymers led to their self‐assembly in selective solvents, which was probed using atomic force microscopy and dynamic light scattering, which indicated the formation of large spherical micelles of uniform diameter. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Surface‐initiated reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer (SI‐RAFT) polymerization of N‐[3‐(dimethylamino)propyl]methacrylamide (DMAPMA) on the silicon wafer was conducted in attempt to create controllable cationic polymer films. The RAFT agent‐immobilized substrate was prepared by the silanization of hydroxyl groups on silicon wafer with 3‐aminopropylthriethoxysilane (APTS) and by the amide reaction of amine groups of APTS with ester groups of 4‐cyano‐4‐((thiobenzoyl) sulfanyl) pentanoic succinimide ester (CPSE); followed by the RAFT polymerization of DMAPMA using a “free” RAFT agent, that is, 4‐cyanopentanoic acid dithiobenzoate (CPAD) and an initiator, that is, 4,4′‐azobis‐4‐cyanopentanoic acid (CPA). The formation of homogeneous tethered poly(N‐[3‐(dimethylamino)propyl]methacrylamide) [poly(DMAPMA)] brushes, whose thickness can be tuned by reaction time varying, is evidenced by using the combination of grazing angle attenuated total reflectance‐Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy, and water contact‐angle measurements. The calculation of grafting parameters from the number‐average molecular weight, M n (g/mol) and ellipsometric thickness, h (nm) values indicated the synthesis of densely grafted poly(DMAPMA) films and allowed us to predict a polymerization time for forming a “brush‐like” conformation for the chains. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Amphiphilic, biocompatible poly(N‐vinylpyrrolidone)‐b‐poly(l ‐lactide) (PVP‐b‐PLLA) block polymers were synthesized at 60 °C using a hydroxyl‐functionalized N,N‐diphenyldithiocarbamate reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) agent, 2‐hydroxyethyl 2‐(N,N‐diphenylcarbamothioylthio)propanoate (HDPCP), as a dual initiator for RAFT polymerization and ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) in a one‐step procedure. 4‐Dimethylamino pyridine was used as the ROP catalyst for l ‐lactide. The two polymerization reactions proceeded in a controlled manner, but their polymerization rates were affected by the other polymerization process. This one‐step procedure is believed to be the most convenient method for synthesizing PVP‐b‐PLLA block copolymers. HDPCP can also be used for the one‐step synthesis of poly(N‐vinylcarbazole)‐b‐PLLA block copolymers. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Chem. 2014 , 52, 1607–1613 相似文献

In this study, we grafted water‐soluble biocompatible polymer, poly(N‐(2‐hydroxypropyl)methacrylamide) (PHPMA), onto the surface of multi‐walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs). The reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) agents, dithioesters, were successfully immobilized onto the surface of MWNTs first, PHPMA chains were then subsequently grafted onto MWNTs via RAFT polymerization by using dithioesters immobilized on MWNTs as RAFT agent. FTIR, XPS, 1H NMR, Raman and TGA were used to characterize the resulting products and to determine the content of water‐soluble PHPMA chains in the product. The MWNTs grafted with PHPMA chains have good solubility in distilled water, PBS buffer, and methanol. TEM images of the samples provide direct evidence for the formation of a nanostructure that MWNTs coated with polymer layer. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(fluoroalkyl mathacrylate)‐block‐poly(butyl methacrylate) diblock copolymer latices were synthesized by a two‐step process. In the first step, a homopolymer end‐capped with a dithiobenzoyl group [poly(fluoroalkyl mathacrylate) (PFAMA) or poly(butyl methacrylate) (PBMA)] was prepared in bulk via reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization with 2‐cyanoprop‐2‐yl dithiobenzoate as a RAFT agent. In the second step, the homopolymer chain‐transfer agent (macro‐CTA) was dissolved in the second monomer, mixed with a water phase containing a surfactant, and then ultrasonicated to form a miniemulsion. Subsequently, the RAFT‐mediated miniemulsion polymerization of the second monomer (butyl methacrylate or fluoroalkyl mathacrylate) was carried out in the presence of the first block macro‐CTA. The influence of the polymerization sequence of the two kinds of monomers on the colloidal stability and molecular weight distribution was investigated. Gel permeation chromatography analyses and particle size results indicated that using the PFAMA macro‐CTA as the first block was better than using the PBMA RAFT agent with respect to the colloidal stability and the narrow molecular weight distribution of the F‐copolymer latices. The F‐copolymers were characterized with 1H NMR, 19F NMR, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Comparing the contact angle of a water droplet on a thin film formed by the fluorinated copolymer with that of PBMA, we found that for the diblock copolymers containing a fluorinated block, the surface energy decreased greatly, and the hydrophobicity increased. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Four well‐defined diblock copolymers and one statistical copolymer based on lauryl methacrylate (LauMA) and 2‐(acetoacetoxy)ethyl methacrylate (AEMA) were prepared using reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization. The polymers were characterized in terms of molecular weights, polydispersity indices (ranging between 1.12 and 1.23) and compositions by size exclusion chromatography and 1H NMR spectroscopy, respectively. The preparation of the block copolymers was accomplished following a two‐step methodology: First, well‐defined LauMA homopolymers were prepared by RAFT using cumyl dithiobenzoate as the chain transfer agent (CTA). Kinetic studies revealed that the polymerization of LauMA followed first‐order kinetics demonstrating the “livingness” of the RAFT process. The pLauMAs were subsequently used as macro‐CTA for the polymerization of AEMA. The glass transition (Tg) and decomposition temperatures (ranging between 200 and 300 °C) of the copolymers were determined using differential scanning calorimetry and thermal gravimetric analysis, respectively. The Tgs of the LauMA homopolymers were found to be around ?53 °C. Block copolymers exhibited two Tgs suggesting microphase separation in the bulk whereas the statistical copolymer presented a single Tg as expected. Furthermore, the micellization behavior of pLauMA‐b‐pAEMA block copolymers was investigated in n‐hexane, a selective solvent for the LauMA block, using dynamic light scattering. pLauMA‐b‐pAEMA block copolymers formed spherical micelles in dilute hexane solutions with hydrodynamic diameters ranging between 30 and 50 nm. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis of hybrid bioconjugates via the ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of N‐carboxyanhydrides (NCAs) using a synthetic macroinitiator is described. Poly(n‐butyl acrylate), polystyrene, and poly(N‐isopropyl acrylamide) are synthesized (polydisperity index, Đ < 1.1) using reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) as the synthetic tool. A phthalimidomethyl trithiocarbonate RAFT chain transfer agent is used to prepare well‐defined, end‐functional polymers, which after deprotection result in amine terminal macroinitiators. The subsequent initiating systems could successfully be chain extended with ε‐benzyloxycarbonyl‐l ‐lysine or γ‐benzyl‐l ‐glutamate as the NCAs to produce a library of polymer–polypeptide conjugates. In doing so, a novel procedure for directly synthesizing bioconjugates via a non‐modular route without the need for excessive purification and isolation steps is described.

Herein the first reported preparation of diblock copolymers of the polyethylene‐like polyester poly(ω‐pentadecalactone) (PPDL) via a combination of enzymatic ring‐opening polymerization (eROP) and reversible addition‐fragmentation chain‐transfer (RAFT) polymerization techniques is described. PPDL was synthesized via eROP using Novozyme 435 as a catalyst and a bifunctional initiator/chain transfer agent (CTA) appropriate for the eROP of ω‐pentadecalactone (PDL) and RAFT polymerization of acrylic and styrenic monomers. Chain growth of the PPDL macro‐CTA was performed to prepare acrylic and styrenic diblock copolymers of PPDL, and demonstrates a facile, metal‐free, and “greener” alternative to preparing acrylic diblock copolymers of polyethylene (PE). Diblock copolymer architecture was substantiated via analysis of 1H NMR spectroscopic, UV‐GPC chromatographic, DSC onset crystallization (Tc), and MALDI‐ToF mass spectrometric data. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis of poly(tert‐butyl acrylate‐block‐vinyl acetate) copolymers using a combination of two living radical polymerization techniques, atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization, is reported. The use of two methods is due to the disparity in reactivity of the two monomers, viz. vinyl acetate is difficult to polymerize via ATRP, and a suitable RAFT agent that can control the polymerization of vinyl acetate is typically unable to control the polymerization of tert‐butyl acrylate. Thus, ATRP was performed to make poly(tert‐butyl acrylate) containing a bromine end group. This end group was subsequently substituted with a xanthate moiety. Various spectroscopic methods were used to confirm the substitution. The poly(tert‐butyl acrylate) macro‐RAFT agent was then used to produce (tert‐butyl acrylate‐block‐vinyl acetate). © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In the reversible addition–fragmentation transfer (RAFT) copolymerization of two monomers, even with the simple terminal model, there are two kinds of macroradical and two kinds of polymeric RAFT agent with different R groups. Because the structure of the R group could exert a significant influence on the RAFT process, RAFT copolymerization may behave differently from RAFT homopolymerization. The RAFT copolymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) and styrene (St) in miniemulsion was investigated. The performance of the RAFT copolymerization of MMA/St in miniemulsion was found to be dependent on the feed monomer compositions. When St is dominant in the feed monomer composition, RAFT copolymerization is well controlled in the whole range of monomer conversion. However, when MMA is dominant, RAFT copolymerization may be, in some cases, out of control in the late stage of copolymerization, and characterized by a fast increase in the polydispersity index (PDI). The RAFT process was found to have little influence on composition evolution during copolymerization. The synthesis of the well‐defined gradient copolymers and poly[St‐b‐(St‐co‐MMA)] block copolymer by RAFT miniemulsion copolymerization was also demonstrated. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
