A facile method to prepare shape memory polymers crosslinked by SiO2 is described. A series of biodegradable shape memory networks were obtained through thiol‐ene reaction triggered by UV irradiation between surface‐thiol‐modified SiO2 nanoparticles and end‐acrylate poly (ε‐caprolactone) (PCL). The highly selective thiol‐ene reaction ensured a uniform distribution of PCL chains between crosslinkers, contributing well‐defined network architecture with enhanced mechanical and shape‐memory properties. Thiol‐functionalized silica nanoparticle was characterized by using FTIR and XPS analysis, and 1H NMR spectra was used to confirm the successful modification of terminal hydroxyl group of PCL diol. Surface‐modified silica particles were found well dispersible in acrylate‐capped PCL supported by SEM. Thermal and crystalline behaviors of the obtained polymers were analyzed by DSC and XRD, and DMA measurement proved good mechanical property. The shape memory behavior and tensile strength was somewhat tunable by the length of PCL. Acceptably, sample SiO2‐SMP2k presented 99% recovery ratio and 97% shape fixity, and its relatively high tensile strength showed an attractive potential for biomedical application. Finally, a possible molecular mechanism accounting for the shape memory property was illustrated. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part B: Polym. Phys. 2017 , 55, 692–701  相似文献

We report an efficient way, sequential double click reactions, for the preparation of brush copolymers with AB block‐brush architectures containing polyoxanorbornene (poly (ONB)) backbone and poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL), poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) or poly(tert‐butyl acrylate) (PtBA) side chains: poly(ONB‐g‐PMMA)‐b‐poly(ONB‐g‐PCL) and poly(ONB‐g‐PtBA)‐b‐poly(ONB‐g‐PCL). The living ROMP of ONB affords the synthesis of well‐defined poly(ONB‐anthracene)20b‐poly (ONB‐azide)5 block copolymer with anthryl and azide pendant groups. Subsequently, well‐defined linear alkyne end‐functionalized PCL (PCL‐alkyne), maleimide end‐functionalized PMMA (PMMA‐MI) and PtBA‐MI were introduced onto the block copolymer via sequential azide‐alkyne and Diels‐Alder click reactions, thus yielding block‐brush copolymers. The molecular weight of block‐brush copolymers was measured via triple detection GPC (TD‐GPC) introducing the experimentally calculated dn/dc values to the software. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Novel poly(ε‐caprolactone)‐b‐poly(ethylene glycol)‐b‐poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL‐PEG‐PCL) bearing pendant hydrophobic γ‐(carbamic acid benzyl ester) groups (PECB) and hydrophiphilic amino groups (PECN) were synthesized based on the functionalized comonomer γ‐(carbamic acid benzyl ester)‐ε‐caprolactone (CABCL). The thermal gelation behavior of the amphiphilic copolymer aqueous solutions was examined. The phase transition behavior could be finely tuned via the pendant groups, and an abnormal phenomenon occurred that the sol–gel transition temperature shifted to a higher temperature for PECB whereas a lower temperature for PECN. The micelles percolation was adopted to clarify the hydrogel mechanism, and the effect of the pendant groups on the micellization was further investigated in detail. The results demonstrated that the introduction of γ‐(carbamic acid benzyl ester) pendant groups significantly decreased the crystallinity of the copolymer micelles whereas amino pendant groups made the micelles easy to aggregate. Thus, the thermal gelation of PEG/PCL aqueous solution could be finely tuned by the pendant groups, and the pendant groups modified PEG/PCL hydrogels are expected to have great potential biomedical application. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A simple and facile strategy for the functionalization of commercial poly(ε‐caprolactone) diols (PCLs) with pendant functionalities at the polymer chain termini is described. Well‐defined allyl‐functionalized PCLs with varying numbers of allyl end‐block side‐groups were synthesized by cationic ring‐opening polymerization of allyl glycidyl ether using PCL diols as macroinitiators. Further functionalization of the allyl‐functionalized PCLs was realized via the UV‐initiated radical addition of a furan‐functionalized thiol to the pendant allyl functional groups, showing the suitability for post‐modification of the PCL materials. Changes in polymer structure as a result of varying the number of pendant functional units at the PCL chain termini were demonstrated. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. A series of novel amphiphilic brush‐dendritic‐linear poly[poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate]‐b‐polyamidoamine‐b‐poly(ε‐caprolactone) copolymers (PPEGMEMA‐b‐Dmb‐PCL) (m = 1, 2, and 3: the generation number of dendron) were synthesized by the combination techniques of click chemistry, atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP), and ring‐opening polymerization (ROP). The brush‐dendritic copolymers bearing hydrophilic brush PPEGMEMA and hydrophobic dendron polyamidoamine protected by the tert‐butoxycarbonyl (Boc) groups [Dm‐(Boc) (m = 1, 2, and 3)] were for the first time prepared by ATRP of poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate monomer (PEGMEMA) initiated with the dendron initiator, which was prepared from 2′‐azidoethyl‐2‐bromoisobutyrate (AEBIB) and Dm‐(Boc) terminated with a clickable alkyne by click chemistry. Then, the brush‐dendritic copolymers with primary amine groups (PPEGMEMA‐b‐Dm) were obtained from the removal of the protected Boc groups of the brush‐dendritic copolymers in the presence of trifluoroacetic acid. The brush‐dendritic‐linear PPEGMEMA‐b‐Dmb‐PCL copolymers were synthesized from ROP of ε‐caprolactone monomer using PPEGMEMA‐b‐Dm as the macroinitiators and stannous octoate as catalyst in toluene at 130 °C. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report that integrates hydrophilic brush polymer PPEGMEMA with hydrophobic polyamidoamine (PAMAM) dendron and PCL to form amphiphilic brush‐dendritic‐linear copolymers. The amphiphilic brush‐dendritic‐linear copolymers can self‐assemble into spherical micellar structures in aqueous solution. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel amphiphilic branch‐ring‐branch tadpole‐shaped [linear‐poly(ε‐caprolactone)]‐b‐[cyclic‐poly(ethylene oxide)]‐b‐[linear‐poly(ε‐caprolactone)] [(l‐PCL)‐b‐(c‐PEO)‐b‐(l‐PCL)] was synthesized by combination of glaser coupling reaction with ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) mechanism. The self‐assembling behaviors of (l‐PCL)‐b‐(c‐PEO)‐b‐(l‐PCL) and their π‐shaped analogs of poly(ε‐caprolactone)/poly(ethylene oxide)]‐b‐poly(ethylene oxide)‐b‐[poly(ε‐caprolactone)/poly(ethylene oxide) with comparable molecular weight in water were preliminarily investigated. The results showed that the micelles formed from the former took a fiber look, however, that formed from the latter took a spherical look. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this paper, a poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL)‐based shape memory polyurethane fiber was prepared by melt spinning. The shape memory switching temperature was the melting transition temperature of the soft segment phase mainly composed of PCL at 47°C. The mechanical properties especially shape memory effect were explicitly characterized by thermomechanical cyclic tensile testing. The results suggest that the prepared fiber has shape memory effects. The prepared 40 denier shape memory fiber had a tenacity of about 1.0 cN/dtex, and strain at break 562–660%. The shape fixity ratio reached 84% and the recovery ratio reached 95% under drawing at high temperature and thermal recovery testing.1 Finally, the fiber thermal/mechanical properties were measured using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA). Biodegradable and biocompatible PCL‐g‐PEG amphiphilic graft copolymers were prepared by combination of ROP and “click” chemistry via “graft onto” method under mild conditions. First, chloro‐functionalized poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL‐Cl) was synthesized by the ring‐opening copolymerization of ε‐caprolactone (CL) and α‐chloro‐ε‐caprolactone (CCL) employing scandium triflate as high‐efficient catalyst with near 100% monomer conversion. Second, the chloro groups of PCL‐Cl were quantitatively converted into azide form by NaN3. Finally, copper(I)‐catalyzed cycloaddition reaction was carried out between azide‐functionalized PCL (PCL‐N3) and alkyne‐terminated poly(ethylene glycol) (A‐PEG) to give PCL‐g‐PEG amphiphilic graft copolymers. The composition and the graft architecture of the copolymers were characterized by 1H NMR, FTIR, and GPC analyses. These amphiphilic graft copolymers could self‐assemble into sphere‐like aggregates in aqueous solution with diverse diameters, which decreased with the increasing of grafting density. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) with a pendent coumarin group was prepared by solution polycondensation from 7‐(3,5‐dicarboxyphenyl) carbonylmethoxycoumarin dichloride and α, ω‐dihydroxy terminated poly(ε‐caprolactone) with molecular weights of 1250, 3000, and 10,000 g/mol. These photosensitive polymers underwent a rapid reversible photocrosslinking upon exposure to irradiation with alternating wavelengths (>280/254 nm) without a photoinitiator. The thermal and mechanical properties of the photocrosslinked films were examined by means of differential scanning calorimetry and stress–strain measurements. The crosslinked films exhibited elastic properties above the melting temperature of the PCL segment along with significant decrease in the ultimate tensile strength and Young's modulus. Shape‐memory properties such as strain fixity ratio (Rf) and strain recovery ratio (Rr) were determined by means of a cyclic thermomechanical tensile experiments under varying maximum strains (εm = 100, 300, and 500%). The crosslinked ICM/PCL‐3000 and ‐10,000 films exhibited the excellent shape‐memory properties in which both Rf and Rr values were 88–100% for tensile strain of 100–500%; after the deformation, the films recovered their permanent shapes instantaneously. In vitro degradation was performed in a phosphate buffer saline (pH 7.2) at 37 °C with or without the presence of Pseudomonas cepacia lipase. The presence of the pendent coumarin group and the crosslinking of the polymers pronouncedly decreased the degradation rate. The crosslinked biodegradable PCL showing a good shape‐memory property is promising as a new material for biomedical applications. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We report the coating of maghemite (γ‐Fe2O3) nanoparticles with poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) through a covalent grafting to technique. ω‐Hydroxy‐PCL was first synthesized by the ring‐opening polymerization of ε‐caprolactone with aluminum isopropoxide and benzyl alcohol as a catalytic system. The hydroxy end groups of PCL were then derivatized with 3‐isocyanatopropyltriethoxysilane in the presence of tetraoctyltin. The triethoxysilane‐functionalized PCL macromolecules were finally allowed to react on the surface of maghemite nanoparticles. The composite nanoparticles were characterized by diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform (DRIFT) spectroscopy, thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Effects of the polymer molar mass and concentration on the amount of polymer grafted to the surface were investigated. Typical grafting densities up to 3 μmol of polymer chains per m2 of maghemite surface were obtained with this grafting to technique. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Resorbable poly(ester anhydride) networks based on ε‐caprolactone, L ‐lactide, and D,L ‐lactide oligomers were synthesized. The ring‐opening polymerization of the monomers yielded hydroxyl telechelic oligomers, which were end‐functionalized with succinic anhydride and reacted with methacrylic anhydride to yield dimethacrylated oligomers containing anhydride bonds. The degree of substitution, determined by 13C NMR, was over 85% for acid functionalization and over 90% for methacrylation. The crosslinking of the oligomers was carried out thermally with dibenzoyl peroxide at 120 °C, leading to polymer networks with glass‐transition temperatures about 10 °C higher than those of the constituent oligomers. In vitro degradation tests, in a phosphate buffer solution (pH 7.0) at 37 °C, revealed a rapid degradation of the networks. Crosslinked polymers based on lactides exhibited high water absorption and complete mass loss in 4 days. In ε‐caprolactone‐based networks, the length of the constituent oligomer determined the degradation: PCL5‐AH, formed from longer poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) blocks, lost only 40% of its mass in 2 weeks, whereas PCL10‐AH, composed of shorter PCL blocks, completely degraded in 2 days. The degradation of PCL10‐AH showed characteristics of surface erosion, as the dimensions of the specimens decreased steadily and, according to Fourier transform infrared, labile anhydride bonds were still present after 90% mass loss. © 2003 The Authors. Polyesters constitute an important class of materials for in vivo biomedical applications. Poly(?‐caprolactone) (PCL) is a hydrophobic biodegradable polyester which is employed to a lesser extent in drug delivery applications due to its rather limited range of physicochemical characteristics. Here, we present a new paradigm for the synthesis of functionalized PCL via copolymerization of caprolactone with α,ω‐epoxy esters. Ethyl 2‐methyl‐4‐pentenoate oxide was used as a monomer which was copolymerized with ?‐caprolactone to yield random copolymers of poly(?‐caprolactone‐co‐ethyl‐2‐methyl‐4‐pentenoate oxide). The reaction conditions were optimized to generate functionalization greater than 25%. The use of ester‐epoxides favors a statistical and uniform distribution of monomer along the polymer backbone, which while preserving some of the key properties of PCL such as glass transition that is below room temperature, allows the tailoring of the melting behavior of PCL. The strategy presented herein opens up new avenues for engineering PCL properties for biomedical applications. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) and poly(lactic acid) (PLA) networks were prepared from macromonomer diols functionalized with methacrylic anhydride, which allows one to get self‐crosslinkable polymers. Besides, both macromonomers were copolymerized to get copolymer networks with different compositions (namely, PCL/PLA: 0/100, 70/30, 50/50, 30/70, 100/0). Dielectric and calorimetric experiments allow one to conclude the microphase separation of the system: one phase made of pure PCL domains while the second one consists of caprolactone units, which somehow plasticize PLA and moves its main relaxation (glass transition) to lower temperatures. The effect of crosslinking PLA on the dynamics of the system was further investigated by comparing with the dynamics for linear PLA. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(caprolactone) (PCL) networks have received significant attention in the literature because of many emerging potential applications as biodegradable materials. In this study, the Michael addition reaction was used for the first time to synthesize biodegradable networks using crosslinking of acetoacetate‐functionalized PCL (PCL bisAcAc) oligomers with neopentyl glycol diacrylate. Hydroxyl‐terminated PCL telechelic oligomers with number‐average molecular weights ranging from 1000 to 4000 g/mol were quantitatively functionalized with acetoacetate groups using transacetoacetylation. In addition to difunctional PCL oligomers, hydroxyl‐terminated trifunctional star‐shaped PCL oligomers were functionalized with acetoacetate groups. Derivatization of the terminal hydroxyl groups with acetoacetate groups was confirmed using FTIR spectroscopy, 1H NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, and base titration of hydroxyl end groups. PCL bisAcAc precursors were reacted with neopentyl glycol diacrylate in the presence of an organic base at room temperature. The crosslinking reactions yielded networks with high gel contents (>85%). The thermomechanical properties of the networks were analyzed to investigate the influence of molecular weight between crosslink points. The glass transition and the extent of crystallinity of the PCL networks were dependent on the molecular weight of the PCL segment. Dynamic mechanical analysis indicated that the plateau modulus of the networks was dependent on the molecular weight of PCL, which was related to the crosslink density of the networks. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The effects of several low molecular weight compounds with hydroxyl groups on the physical properties of poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) were investigated by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and high‐resolution solid‐state 13C NMR. PCL and 4,4′‐thiodiphenol (TDP) interact through strong intermolecular hydrogen bonds and form hydrogen‐bonded networks in the blends at an appropriate TDP content. The thermal and dynamic mechanical properties of PCL/TDP blends were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and dynamic mechanical thermal analysis, respectively. The melting point of PCL decreased, whereas both the glass‐transition temperature and the loss tangent tan δ of the blend increased with an increase in TDP content. The addition of 40 wt % TDP changed PCL from a semicrystalline polymer in the pure state to a fully amorphous elastomer. The molecules of TDP lost their crystallizability in the blends with TDP contents not greater than 40 wt %. In addition to TDP, three other PCL blend systems with low molecular weight additives containing two hydroxyl groups, 1,4‐dihydroxybenzene, 1,4‐di‐(2‐hydroxyethoxy) benzene, and 1,6‐hexanediol, were also investigated with FTIR and DSC, and the effects of the chemical structure of the additives on the morphology and thermal properties are discussed. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. In this contribution, we reported a design of shape memory networks of poly(ε‐caprolactone)s (PCLs) via POSS‐POSS interactions. First, a series of novel organic‐inorganic PCL stars with polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) termini were synthesized via the combination of ring‐opening polymerization of ε‐caprolactone and the copper (I)‐catalyzed cycloaddition of alkynyl with azido groups. It was found that the organic‐inorganic PCL stars significantly displayed shape memory properties with about 100% of recovery. The morphological observation showed that in the organic‐inorganic PCL stars, the POSS cages at the ends of PCL chains were self‐organized into the spherical POSS microdomains with the size of 10 to 20 nm in diameter. The POSS microdomains behaved as the netpoints, resulting in the formation of physically crosslinked networks. The novel physically crosslinked networks endowed the organic‐inorganic nanocomposites with shape memory properties.  相似文献

In general, the complexation and gelation behavior between biocompatible poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) derivatives and α‐cyclodextrin (α‐CD) is extensively studied in water, but not in organic solvents. In this article, the complexation and gelation behavior between α‐CD and multi‐arm polymer β‐cyclodextrin‐PCL (β‐CD‐PCL) with a unique “jellyfish‐like” structure are thoroughly investigated in organic solvent N,N‐dimethylformamide and a new heat‐induced organogel is obtained. However, PCL linear polymers cannot form organogels under the same condition. The complexation is characterized by rheological measurements, DSC, XRD, and SEM. The SEM images reveal that the complexes between β‐CD‐PCL and α‐CD present a novel topological helix porous structure which is distinctly different from the lamellar structure formed by PCL linear polymers and α‐CD, suggesting the unique “jellyfish‐like” structure of β‐CD‐PCL is crucial for the formation of the organogels. This research may provide insight into constructing new supramolecular organogels and potential for designing new functional biomaterials. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Semi‐interpenetrating polymer networks (semi‐IPNs) were prepared by reactions of 2,4‐tolylene diisocyanate (TDI) and hydroxy‐terminated 4‐arm star‐shaped l ‐lactide oligomers (H4LAOn's) with the degrees of polymerization of lactate unit per one arm, n = 3, 5, and 10 in the presence of poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL). Morphologies, thermal, and mechanical properties of the TDI‐bridged H4LAOn (TH4LAOn)/PCL semi‐IPNs were evaluated by comparing with those of poly(l ‐lactide) (PLA)/PCL blends. Compatibility between the two components of the TH4LAOn/PCL semi‐IPN with a PCL content not more than 50 wt % was much better than those of the PLA/PCL blends with the same PCL content. All the TH4LAOn networks were substantially amorphous and their tan δ peak or glass transition temperatures increased with decreasing n value. Most of the semi‐IPNs did not show clear glass transition temperature related to both the components. Tensile toughness and elongation at break for all the TH4LAOn/PCL semi‐IPNs were much higher than those for the PLA/PCL blends with the same PCL content. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Photocurable biodegradable multiblock copolymers were synthesized from poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) diol and poly(L ‐lactide) (PLLA) diol with 4,4′‐(adipoyldioxy)dicinnamic acid (CAC) dichloride as a chain extender derived from adipoyl chloride and 4‐hydroxycinnamic acid, and they were characterized with Fourier transform infrared and 1H NMR spectroscopy, gel permeation chromatography, wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry, and tensile tests. The copolymers were irradiated with a 400‐W high‐pressure mercury lamp from 30 min to 3 h to form a network structure in the absence of photoinitiators. The gel concentration increased with time, and a concentration of approximately 90% was obtained in 90–180 min for all the films. The photocuring hardly affected the crystallinity and melting temperature of the PCL segments but reduced the crystallinity of the PLLA segments. The mechanical properties, such as the tensile strength, modulus, and elongation, were significantly affected by the copolymer compositions and gel concentrations. Shape‐memory properties were determined with cyclic thermomechanical experiments. The CAC/PCL and CAC/PCL/PLLA (75/25) films photocured for 30–120 min showed good shape‐memory properties with strain fixity rates and recovery rates of approximately 100%. The formation of the network structure and the crystallization and melting of the PCL segments played very important roles for the typical shape‐memory properties. Finally, the degradation characteristics of these copolymers were investigated in a phosphate buffer solution at 37 °C with proteinase‐k and Pseudomonas cepacia lipase. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Biodegradable, amphiphilic, diblock poly(ε‐caprolactone)‐block‐poly(ethylene glycol) (PCL‐b‐PEG), triblock poly(ε‐caprolactone)‐block‐poly(ethylene glycol)‐block‐poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL‐b‐PEG‐b‐PCL), and star shaped copolymers were synthesized by ring opening polymerization of ε‐caprolactone in the presence of poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether or poly(ethylene glycol) or star poly(ethylene glycol) and potassium hexamethyldisilazide as a catalyst. Polymerizations were carried out in toluene at room temperature to yield monomodal polymers of controlled molecular weight. The chemical structure of the copolymers was investigated by 1H and 13C NMR. The formation of block copolymers was confirmed by 13C NMR and DSC investigations. The effects of copolymer composition and molecular structure on the physical properties were investigated by GPC and DSC. For the same PCL chain length, the materials obtained in the case of linear copolymers are viscous whereas in the case of star copolymer solid materials are obtained with low Tg and Tm temperatures. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
