Poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) with a pendent coumarin group was prepared by solution polycondensation from 7‐(3,5‐dicarboxyphenyl) carbonylmethoxycoumarin dichloride and α, ω‐dihydroxy terminated poly(ε‐caprolactone) with molecular weights of 1250, 3000, and 10,000 g/mol. These photosensitive polymers underwent a rapid reversible photocrosslinking upon exposure to irradiation with alternating wavelengths (>280/254 nm) without a photoinitiator. The thermal and mechanical properties of the photocrosslinked films were examined by means of differential scanning calorimetry and stress–strain measurements. The crosslinked films exhibited elastic properties above the melting temperature of the PCL segment along with significant decrease in the ultimate tensile strength and Young's modulus. Shape‐memory properties such as strain fixity ratio (Rf) and strain recovery ratio (Rr) were determined by means of a cyclic thermomechanical tensile experiments under varying maximum strains (εm = 100, 300, and 500%). The crosslinked ICM/PCL‐3000 and ‐10,000 films exhibited the excellent shape‐memory properties in which both Rf and Rr values were 88–100% for tensile strain of 100–500%; after the deformation, the films recovered their permanent shapes instantaneously. In vitro degradation was performed in a phosphate buffer saline (pH 7.2) at 37 °C with or without the presence of Pseudomonas cepacia lipase. The presence of the pendent coumarin group and the crosslinking of the polymers pronouncedly decreased the degradation rate. The crosslinked biodegradable PCL showing a good shape‐memory property is promising as a new material for biomedical applications. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We report the synthesis of linear‐ and brush‐type poly(?‐caprolactone) (PCL) networks and investigate their thermal, mechanical, and shape memory behavior. Brush‐PCLs are prepared by ring‐opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) of a norbornenyl‐functionalized ?‐caprolactone macromonomer (MM‐PCL) of different molecular weights. The linear analog, diacrylate end‐functionalized PCL (linear‐PCL), having comparable molecular weight of side chain of brush‐PCL is also synthesized. These polymers are thermally cured by a radical initiator in the presence of poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate crosslinker. Thermal and linear viscoelastic properties as well as shape memory performance of the resulting PCL networks are investigated, and are significantly impacted by the PCL architecture. Therefore, our work highlights that tailoring macromolecular architecture is useful strategy to manipulate thermal, mechanical, and resulting shape memory properties. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This work reports a new direction of natural lignin valorization, which utilizes lignin to produce crosslinked polycaprolactone (PCL) via a straightforward synthesis. Lignin's hydroxyl groups of its multibranched phenolic structure allow lignin to serve as crosslinkers, whereas the aromatic groups serve as hard segments. The modified natural lignin containing alkene terminals is crosslinked with a thiol‐terminal PCL via Ru‐catalyzed photoredox thiol‐ene reaction. The high rate of gel contents measured for all crosslinked polymers, with the least being 84% of gel content, indicates efficient crosslinking. The prepared flat rectangular shape lignin‐crosslinked PCL sample demonstrates rapid thermal responsive shape memory behavior at 10 °C and 80 °C showing interconversion between a permanent and temporary shape. The melting temperature of the lignin‐crosslinked PCL is tunable by varying the percent weight of lignin. The 11, 21, and 30 wt % lignin demonstrated Tm of 42 °C, 35 °C, and 26 °C, respectively. The role of lignin as a crosslinker presented in this work suggests that lignin can serve as an efficient biomass‐based functional additive to polymers. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Thiol oligomers were copolymerized with a triallyl ether by a photoinduced polymerization process. These oligomeric thiol‐ene systems comprise the same components as a photopolymerized thiol‐ene‐acrylate ternary system, yet the photopolymerized networks have much lower glass transition temperatures. An investigation into the effect of oligomeric thiol design on network formation was conducted by analyzing the reaction kinetics and thermal/mechanical properties of the thiol‐ene networks. Real‐time FTIR analysis shows that total conversion is >90% for all thiols investigated. Photo‐DSC analysis shows that the maximum exotherm rate is roughly equivalent for all of the thiols when the equivalent weight of the thiol is taken into account. As would be expected, the glass transition temperature and tensile strength increase with thiol functionality and lower thiol equivalent weight for thiols with functionality from 2 to 4. Films made using the oligomeric thiols have essentially the same glass transition temperatures and tensile modulus values regardless of thiol design. These results distinguish the method for generation of networks consisting of an initial Michael reaction of thiols and acrylates followed by a photoinitiated copolymerization with a multifunctional ene from the traditional photolysis of the corresponding thiol‐ene‐acrylate ternary systems with no Michael reaction. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The graft polymer poly(ethylene oxide)‐g‐poly(?‐caprolactone)2 (PEO‐g‐PCL2) with modulated grafting sites was synthesized by the combination of ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) mechanism, efficient Williamson reaction, with thiol–ene addition reaction. First, the precursor of PEO‐Allyl‐PEO with two terminal hydroxyl groups and one middle allyl group was prepared by ROP of EO monomers. Then, the macroinitiator [PEO‐(OH)2‐PEO]s was synthesized by sequential Williamson reaction between terminal hydroxyl groups and thiol–ene addition reaction on pendant allyl groups. Finally, the graft polymer PEO‐g‐PCL2 was obtained by ROP of ?‐CL monomers using [PEO‐(OH)2‐PEO]s as macroinitiator. The target graft polymer and all intermediates were well characterized by the measurements of gel permeation chromatography, 1H NMR, and thermal gravimetric analysis. The crystallization behavior was investigated by the measurements of differential scanning calorimetry, wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction and polarized optical microscope. The results showed that when the PCL content of side chains reached 59.2%, the crystalline structure had been dominated by PCL part and the crystalline structure formed by PEO part can be almost neglected. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. New diene and dithiol monomers, based on aromatic imides such as benzophenone‐3,3′,4,4′‐tetracarboxylic diimide were synthesized and used in thiol‐ene polymerizations which yield poly(imide‐co‐thioether)s. These linear polymers exhibit limited solubility in various organic solvents. The molecular weights of the polymers were found to decrease with increasing imide content. The glass transition temperature (Tg) of these polymers is dependent on imide content, with Tg values ranging from ?55 °C (with no imide) up to 13 °C (with 70% imide). These thermal property improvements are due to the H‐bonding and rigidity of the aromatic imide moieties. Thermal degradation, as studied by thermogravimetric analysis, was not significantly different to the nonimide containing thiol‐ene polymers made using trimethyloylpropane diallyl ether and 3,5‐dioxa‐1,8‐dithiooctane. It is expected that such monomers may lead to increased glass transition temperatures in other thiol‐ene polymer systems as these normally exhibit low glass transition temperatures. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two new ring opening polymerization (ROP) initiators, namely, (3‐allyl‐2‐(allyloxy)phenyl)methanol and (3‐allyl‐2‐(prop‐2‐yn‐1‐yloxy)phenyl)methanol each containing two reactive functionalities viz. allyl, allyloxy and allyl, propargyloxy, respectively, were synthesized from 3‐allylsalicyaldehyde as a starting material. Well defined α‐allyl, α′‐allyloxy and α‐allyl, α′‐propargyloxy bifunctionalized poly(ε‐caprolactone)s with molecular weights in the range 4200–9500 and 3600–10,900 g/mol and molecular weight distributions in the range 1.16–1.18 and 1.15–1.16, respectively, were synthesized by ROP of ε‐caprolactone employing these initiators. The presence of α‐allyl, α′‐allyloxy and α‐allyl, α′‐propargyloxy functionalities on poly(ε‐caprolactone)s was confirmed by FT‐IR, 1H, 13C NMR spectroscopy, and MALDI‐TOF analysis. The kinetic study of ROP of ε‐caprolactone with both the initiators revealed the pseudo first order kinetics with respect to ε‐caprolactone consumption and controlled behavior of polymerization reactions. The usefulness of α‐allyl, α′‐allyloxy functionalities on poly(ε‐caprolactone) was demonstrated by performing the thiol‐ene reaction with poly(ethylene glycol) thiol to obtain (mPEG)2‐PCL miktoarm star copolymer. α‐Allyl, α′‐propargyloxy functionalities on poly(ε‐caprolactone) were utilized in orthogonal reactions i.e copper catalyzed alkyne‐azide click (CuAAC) with azido functionalized poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) followed by thiol‐ene reaction with poly(ethylene glycol) thiol to synthesize PCL‐PNIPAAm‐mPEG miktoarm star terpolymer. The preliminary characterization of A2B and ABC miktoarm star copolymers was carried out by 1H NMR spectroscopy and gel permeation chromatography (GPC). © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. In this article, the synthesis and the functionalization of well‐defined, narrow polydispersity (polydispersity index < 1.2) star polymers via reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer polymerization is detailed. In this arm first approach, the initial synthesis of a poly(pentafluorophenyl acrylate) polymer, and subsequent, cross‐linking using bis‐acrylamide to prepare star polymers, has been achieved by reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer polymerization. These star polymers were functionalized using a variety of amino functional groups via nucleophilic substitution of pentafluorophenyl activated ester to yield star polymers with predesigned chemical functionality. This approach has allowed the synthesis of star glycopolymer using a very simple approach. Finally, the core of the stars was modified via thiol‐ene click chemistry reaction using fluorescein‐o‐acrylate and DyLigh 633 Maleimide. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We report a facile method that combined sol–gel reaction, reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT)/macromolecular design via interchange of the xanthates process and thiol‐ene click reaction to prepare monodisperse silica core‐poly(N‐vinylimidazole) (PVim) shell microspheres of 200 nm in average diameters. First, silica with C = C double bonds was prepared by the sol–gel reaction of 3‐(trimethoxysilyl)propyl methacrylates (MPS) with tetraethoxysilane in ethanol; SiO2@PVim were subsequently prepared by grafting PVim chain (Mn = 9800 g/mol, polydispersity index = 1.22) to MPS‐SiO2 via the thiol‐ene click chemisty. The obtained SiO2@PVim microspheres show higher catalytic activity toward the hydrolysis of p‐nitrophenyl acetate compared with the PVim homopolymers. The as‐prepared composites have been characterized by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, thermal gravimetric analysis and Fourier transform infrared spectrometry analysis. Synthesis of cysteine‐terminated linear polystyrene (PS)‐b‐poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL)‐b‐poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)/or poly(tert‐butyl acrylate)(PtBA)‐b‐poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) copolymers was carried out using sequential quadruple click reactions including thiol‐ene, copper‐catalyzed azide–alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC), Diels–Alder, and nitroxide radical coupling (NRC) reactions. N‐acetyl‐L ‐cysteine methyl ester was first clicked with α‐allyl‐ω‐azide‐terminated PS via thiol‐ene reaction to create α‐cysteine‐ω‐azide‐terminated PS. Subsequent CuAAC reaction with PCL, followed by the introduction of the PMMA/or PtBA and PEG blocks via Diels–Alder and NRC, respectively, yielded final cysteine‐terminated multiblock copolymers. By 1H NMR spectroscopy, the DPns of the blocks in the final multiblock copolymers were found to be close to those of the related polymer precursors, indicating that highly efficient click reactions occurred for polymer–polymer coupling. Successful quadruple click reactions were also confirmed by gel permeation chromatography. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2012  相似文献

We demonstrated the successful postfunctionalization of poly(oxanorbornene imide) (PONB) with two types of double bonds using sequential orthogonal reactions, nucleophilic thiol‐ene coupling via Michael addition and radical thiol‐ene click reactions. First, the synthesis of PONB with side chain acrylate groups is carried out via ring‐opening metathesis polymerization and nitroxide radical coupling reaction, respectively. Subsequently, the resulting polymer having two different orthogonal functionalities, main chain vinyl and side chain acrylate, is selectively modified via two sequential thiol‐ene click reactions, nucleophilic thiol‐ene coupling via Michael addition and photoinduced radical thiol‐ene. The orthogonal reactivity of two diverse double bonds, vinyl and acrylate functionalities, for the abovementioned consecutive thiol‐ene click reactions was first demonstrated on the model compound. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This work aims at the design of photoactive inorganic filler by covalently attaching tri(methoxy)silyl‐functionalized bis(acyl)phosphane oxides (TEMSI2‐BAPO) onto silica particles. The immobilization of the photoactive groups is evidenced by spectroscopic measurements and thermal gravimetric analysis. The modified particles are then incorporated into thiol–ene resins to study the efficiency of the Norrish type I photofragmentation reaction of the covalently bound TEMSI2‐BAPO derivatives. The photopolymerization kinetics of the thiol–ene system is monitored by FT‐IR spectroscopy and photo‐DSC upon prolonged exposure with UV‐light and compared with the results achieved with IRGACURE 819 (free BAPO). Rapid curing and high conversion yields are obtained evidencing the high efficiency of the photoactive particles. In addition, negative‐toned patterns are inscribed in thin thiol–ene films by photolithographic processes and characterized by microscopic techniques demonstrating the versatile applicability of the photoactive particles. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(isoprene) (PI) with pendant functional groups was successfully synthesized by thiol‐ene addition reaction under 365 nm UV irradiation, and the functionalized PI was further modified and used to prepare graft copolymers with “V”‐shaped side chains. First, the pendant ? SCH2CH(OH)CH2OH groups were introduced to PI by thiol‐ene addition reaction between 1‐thioglycerol and double bonds, and the results showed that the addition reaction carried out only on double bonds of 1,2‐addition isoprene units. After the esterification of hydroxyl groups by 2‐bromoisobutyryl bromide, the forming macroinitiator was used to initiate the atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of styrene (St) and tert‐butyl acrylate (tBA), and the graft copolymers PI‐g‐PS 2 and PI‐g‐PtBA 2 or PI‐g‐PAA 2 (by hydrolysis of PI‐g‐PtBA 2) were obtained, respectively. It was confirmed that the graft density of side chains on PI main chains could be easily controlled by variation of the contents of modified 1,2‐addition isoprene units on PI. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The ABCD 4‐miktoarm star polymers based on polystyrene (PS), poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL), poly(methyl acrylate) (PMA), and poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) were synthesized and characterized successfully. Using the mechanism transformation strategy, PS with three different functional groups (i.e., hydroxyl, alkyne, and trithiocarbonate), PS‐HEPPA‐SC(S)SC12H25, was synthesized by the reaction of the trithiocarbonate‐terminated PS with 2‐hydroxyethyl‐3‐(4‐(prop‐2‐ynyloxy)phenyl) acrylate (HEPPA) in tetrahydrofuran (THF) solution. Subsequently, the ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of ε‐caprolactone (CL) was carried out in the presence of stannous(II) 2‐ethylhexanoate and PS‐HEPPA‐SC(S)SC12H25, and then the PS‐HEPPA(PCL)‐SC(S)SC12H25 obtained was used in reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization of methyl acrylate (MA) to produce the ABC 3‐miktoarm star polymer, S(PS)(PCL)(PMA) carrying an alkyne group. The ABCD 4‐miktoarm star polymer, S(PS)(PCL)(PMA)(PEO) was successfully prepared by click reaction of the alkyne group on the HEPPA unit with azide‐terminated PEO (PEO‐N3). The target polymer and intermediates were characterized by NMR, FTIR, GPC, and DSC. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 46: 6641–6653, 2008  相似文献

Thiol‐isocyanate‐acrylate ternary networks were formed by the combination of thiol‐isocyanate coupling, thiol‐acrylate Michael addition, and acrylate homopolymerization. This hybrid polymerization reaction sequence was preferentially controlled by using phosphine catalyst systems in combination with photolysis. The reaction kinetics of the phosphine/acrylate thiol‐isocyanate coupling reactions were systematically investigated by evaluating model, small molecule reactions. The thiol‐isocyanate reaction was completed within 1 min while the thiol‐acrylate Michael addition reaction required ~10 min. Both thiol‐isocyanate coupling and thiol‐acrylate Michael addition reactions involving two‐step anionic processes were found to be both quantitative and efficient. However, the thiol‐isocyanate coupling reaction was much more rapid than the thiol‐acrylate Michael addition, promoting initial selectivity of the thiol‐isocyanate reaction in a medium containing thiol, isocyanate, and acrylate functional groups. Films were prepared from thiol‐isocyanate‐acrylate ternary mixtures using 2‐acryloyloxyethylisocyanate and di‐, tri‐, and tetra‐functional thiols. The sequential thiol‐isocyanate, thiol‐acrylate, and acrylate homopolymerization reactions were monitored by infrared spectroscopy during film formation, whereas thermal and mechanical properties of the films were evaluated as a function of the chemical composition following polymerization. The results indicate that the network structures and material properties are tunable over a wide range of properties (Tg ~ 14–100 °C, FWHM ~ 8–46 °C), while maintaining nearly quantitative reactions, simply by controlling the component compositions. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel miktofunctional initiator ( 1 ), 2‐hydroxyethyl 3‐[(2‐bromopropanoyl)oxy]‐2‐{[(2‐bromopropanoyl)oxy]methyl}‐2‐methyl‐propanoate, possessing one initiating site for ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) and two initiating sites for atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP), was synthesized in a three‐step reaction sequence. This initiator was first used in the ROP of ?‐caprolactone, and this led to a corresponding polymer with secondary bromide end groups. The obtained poly(?‐caprolactone) (PCL) was then used as a macroinitiator for the ATRP of tert‐butyl acrylate or methyl methacrylate, and this resulted in AB2‐type PCL–[poly(tert‐butyl acrylate)]2 or PCL–[poly(methyl methacrylate)]2 miktoarm star polymers with controlled molecular weights and low polydispersities (weight‐average molecular weight/number‐average molecular weight < 1.23) via the ROP–ATRP sequence. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Photocurable biodegradable multiblock copolymers were synthesized from poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) diol and poly(L ‐lactide) (PLLA) diol with 4,4′‐(adipoyldioxy)dicinnamic acid (CAC) dichloride as a chain extender derived from adipoyl chloride and 4‐hydroxycinnamic acid, and they were characterized with Fourier transform infrared and 1H NMR spectroscopy, gel permeation chromatography, wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry, and tensile tests. The copolymers were irradiated with a 400‐W high‐pressure mercury lamp from 30 min to 3 h to form a network structure in the absence of photoinitiators. The gel concentration increased with time, and a concentration of approximately 90% was obtained in 90–180 min for all the films. The photocuring hardly affected the crystallinity and melting temperature of the PCL segments but reduced the crystallinity of the PLLA segments. The mechanical properties, such as the tensile strength, modulus, and elongation, were significantly affected by the copolymer compositions and gel concentrations. Shape‐memory properties were determined with cyclic thermomechanical experiments. The CAC/PCL and CAC/PCL/PLLA (75/25) films photocured for 30–120 min showed good shape‐memory properties with strain fixity rates and recovery rates of approximately 100%. The formation of the network structure and the crystallization and melting of the PCL segments played very important roles for the typical shape‐memory properties. Finally, the degradation characteristics of these copolymers were investigated in a phosphate buffer solution at 37 °C with proteinase‐k and Pseudomonas cepacia lipase. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. “Three‐arm star” poly[11‐(4′‐cyanophenyl‐4′′‐phenoxy)undecyl acrylate]s were synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of 11‐(4′‐cyanophenyl‐4′′‐phenoxy)undecyl acrylate using two new trifunctional initiators: 1,3,5‐tri‐ (methyl 2‐bromopropionate)benzene and 2,4,6‐tri[4′‐methyl(2′′‐bromopropionate)phenoxymethyl]mesitylene. The polymers synthesized with 1,3,5‐tri(methyl 2‐bromopropionate)benzene (series II) contained 14–127 repeat units according to gel permeation chromatography relative to linear polystyrene (GPCPSt) and 13–271 repeat units according to GPC with a light scattering detector (GPCLS). Those synthesized with 2,4,6‐tri[4′‐methyl(2′′‐bromopropionate)phenoxymethyl]mesitylene (series III) contained 14–87 repeat units according to GPCPSt and 10–120 repeat units according to GPCLS. The absolute molecular weight, size, and shape of both series of polymers were characterized by light scattering in CH2Cl2, and their thermotropic behavior was analyzed using differential scanning calorimetry; both types of properties were compared to those of the other architectures, especially the corresponding three‐arm star poly[11‐(4′‐cyanophenyl‐4′′‐phenoxy)undecyl acrylate]s synthesized previously using 1,3,5‐trisbromomethylmesitylene as the initiator. The size and shape of the three‐arm star polymers in CH2Cl2 are similar, although the isotropization temperature in the solid state decreases and the breadth of the isotropization transition increases with increasing size and flexibility of the trifunctional core. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The hairy poly(methacrylic acid‐co‐divinylbenzene)‐g‐poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (P(MAA‐co‐DVB)‐g‐PNIPAm) nanocapsules with pH‐responsive P(MAA‐co‐DVB) inner shell and temperature‐responsive PNIPAm brushes were prepared by combined distillation–precipitation copolymerization and surface thiol‐ene click grafting reaction using 3‐(trimethoxysilyl)propyl methacrylate‐modified silica (SiO2‐MPS) nanospheres as a sacrificial core material. The well‐defined PNIPAm was synthesized by a reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization. The chain end was converted to a thiol by chemical reduction. The PNIPAm was integrated into the nanocapsules via thiol‐ene click reaction. The surface thiol‐ene click reaction conduced to tunable grafting density of PNIPAm brushes. The grafting densities decreased from 0.70 chains nm?2 to 0.15 chains nm?2 with increasing the molecular weight of grafted PNIPAm chains. Using water soluble doxorubicin hydrochloride (DOX·HCl) as a model molecular, the tunable shell permeability of the nanocapsule was investigated in detail. The permeability constant can be tuned by controlling the thickness of the P(MAA‐co‐DVB) inner shell, the grafting density of PNIPAm brushes, and the environmental pH and temperature. The tunable shell permeability of these nanocapsules results in the release of the loaded guest molecules with manipulable releasing kinetics. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym.
