The resistance of five poly(arylene ether ketone)s with related chemical structures to degradation by ionizing radiation has been studied by ESR spectroscopy and yields of volatile products. All of the polymers showed high resistance to radiation with low yields of radicals after irradiation in vacuum at 77 K (when up to 84% of the radicals were identified as radical anions) and much lower yields at 300 K. The yields of volatile products were much less than reported for poly(arylene sulfone)s [1, 2]. Methyl substitution on a main-chain aromatic ring decreased the radiation resistance, but methane only comprised 10% of the volatile products from the methyl-substituted polymers. A polymer containing an isopropylidene group in the main chain and a substituent aromatic carbonyl showed significantly decreased radiation resistance. Extremely low radical yields were obtained after irradiation in air at 300 K, contrary to many polymers. XPS analysis showed an increase in C–O bonds on the surface after irradiation in air.  相似文献

The thermal stability and the temperature at which maximum degradation yields are detected were quite similar for both poly(2-vinylpyridine) (P2VP) and poly(4-vinylpyridine) (P4VP). However, considerable differences among the thermal degradation products of both polymers were detected indicating a correlation between the polymer structure and the degradation mechanism. Direct pyrolysis mass spectrometry analyses revealed that P2VP degrades via a complex degradation mechanism, yielding mainly pyridine, monomer, and protonated oligomers, whereas depolymerization of P4VP takes place in accordance with the general thermal behaviour of vinyl polymers. The complex thermal degradation behaviour for P2VP is associated with the position of the nitrogen atom in the pyridine ring, with σ-effect.  相似文献

Three high molecular weight aliphatic polyesters derived from adipic acid and the appropriate diol - poly(ethylene adipate) (PEAd), poly(propylene adipate) (PPAd) and poly(butylene adipate) (PBAd) - were prepared by two-stage melt polycondensation method (esterification and polycondensation) in a glass batch reactor. Intrinsic viscosities, GPC, DSC, NMR and carboxylic end-group measurements were used for their characterization. Mechanical properties of the prepared polyesters showed that PPAd has similar tensile strength to low-density polyethylene while PEAd and PBAd are much higher. From TGA analysis it was found that PEAd and PPAd have lower thermal stability than poly(butylene adipate) (PBAd). The decomposition kinetic parameters of all polyesters were calculated while the activation energies were estimated using the Ozawa, Flynn and Wall (OFW) and Friedman methods. Thermal degradation of PEAd was found to be satisfactorily described by one mechanism, with activation energy 153 kJ/mol, while that of PPAd and PBAd by two mechanisms having different activation energies: the first corresponding to a small mass loss with activation energies 121 and 185 kJ/mol for PPAd and PBAd, respectively, while the second is attributed to the main decomposition mechanism, where substantial mass loss takes place, with activation energies 157 and 217 kJ/mol, respectively.  相似文献

Thermal degradation at processing temperature and the effect on the rheological properties for poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) have been studied by means of oscillatory shear modulus and capillary extrusion properties, with the aid of molecular weight measurements. Thermal history at processing temperature depresses the viscosity because of random chain scission. As a result, gross melt fracture hardly takes place with increasing the residence time in a capillary rheometer. Moreover, it was also found that the molecular weight distribution is independent of the residence time, whereas the inverse of the average molecular weight is proportional to the residence time. Prediction of average molecular weight with a constant molecular weight distribution makes it possible to calculate the flow curve following generalized Newtonian fluid equation proposed by Carreau as a function of temperature as well as the residence time.  相似文献

It was found that telechelic isotactic oligo(1-butene) and telechelic oligo(propylene-ran-1-butene) could be isolated as nonvolatile oligomers from polymer residues resulting from the thermal degradation of isotactic poly(1-butene) and poly(propylene-ran-1-butene), respectively. Their structures were determined by 1H and 13C NMR with attention being paid to their reactive end groups. The maximum average number of terminal vinylidene groups per molecule (fTVD) was 1.8, indicating that about 80 mol% were α,ω-diene oligomers having two terminal vinylidene groups. This useful new telechelic oligomer had a lower polydispersity than the original polymer, in spite of its lower molecular weight and Tm. The composition of end groups of nonvolatile oligomers obtained by thermal degradation of poly(propylene-ran-1-butene) could be explained by the differences in bond dissociation energy and activation energy of elementary reactions during thermal degradation, based on the monomer composition of the original polymer.  相似文献

The degradation of poly(3-hydroxybutyrate), P(3HB), was determined in two conditions namely, a non-aqueous condition of chloroform-methanol mixture in the presence of either one of the two following catalysts, 4-toluenesulphonic acid and imidazole, and secondly in an aqueous condition of increasing pH. From our study, a random chain scission of PHB occurred in the non-aqueous condition while the degradation of PHB in the presence of water occurred through surface hydrolysis with no change in the molecular weight. In the surface hydrolysis of the polymer, the rate was increased with higher pH values.  相似文献

In this work, the enzymatic degradation of poly(butylene succinate-co-butylene terephthalate) (PBST) copolyesters was studied using the lipase from Pseudomonas (Lipase PS®). The biodegradation behavior was found to strongly depend on the overall impacts of several important factors as the BT comonomer structure and molar content, thermal characteristics, morphology, the enzyme-substrate, and so forth. Further, the biodegraded residual film samples were allowed to be analyzed by means of gel permeation chromatography (GPC), proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR), differential scanning calorimeter (DSC), small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS), and scanning electron microscope (SEM). On the experimental evidences, an exo-type mechanism of enzymatic chain hydrolysis preferentially occurring in the amorphous region was suggested for the PBST film samples.  相似文献

Telechelic hydroxylated poly(3‐hydroxybutyrate) (PHB‐diol) oligomers have been successfully synthesized in 90–95% yield from high molar mass PHB by tin‐catalyzed alcoholysis with different diols (mainly 1,4‐butanediol) in diglyme. The PHB‐diol oligomers structure was studied by nuclear magnetic resonance, Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy MALDI‐ToF MS, and size exclusion chromatography, whereas their crystalline structures, thermal properties and thermal stability were analyzed by wide angle X‐ray scattering, DSC, and thermogravimetric analyses. The kinetic of the alcoholysis was studied and the influence of (i) the catalyst amount, (ii) the diol amount, (iii) the reaction temperature, and (iv) the diol chain length on the molar mass was discussed. The influence of the PHB‐diol molar mass on the thermal stability, the thermal properties and optical properties was investigated. Then, tin‐catalyzed poly(ester‐ether‐urethane)s (PEEU) of Mn = 15,000–20,000 g/mol were synthesized in 1,2‐dichloroethane from PHB‐diol oligomers (Pester) with modified 4,4'‐MDI and different polyether‐diols (Pether) (PEG‐2000, PEG‐4000, and PPG‐PEG‐PPG). The influence of the PHB‐diol chain length, the Pether/Pester ratio, the polyether segment nature and the PEG chain length on the thermal properties and crystalline structures of PEEUs was particularly discussed. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Aliphatic polyesters have attracted industrial attention as environmentally degradable thermoplastics to be used for a wide range of applications. Besides intensive studies on the biodegradability of aliphatic polyesters, understanding of the thermal stability has importance for processing, application, and recycling. The details of thermal degradation processes of five types of aliphatic polyesters; namely, poly(L-lactide), poly(3-hydroxybutyric acid), poly(4-hydroxybutyric acid), poly(delta-valerolactone), and poly(epsilon-caprolactone), were investigated by means of several thermoanalytical techniques under both isothermal and non-isothermal conditions. In this feature article, the thermal degradation behaviors of aliphatic polyesters with different numbers of carbon atoms in the main chain of the monomeric unit are reviewed. In addition, the effects of chain-end structure and residual metal compounds on the thermal degradation processes of aliphatic polyesters consisting of hydroxyalkanoic acid monomeric units are presented. Two new diacid monomers, 2,2′-sulfide bis(4-methyl phenoxy acetic acid) and 2,2′-sulfoxide bis(4-methyl phenoxy acetic acid) were successfully synthesized by refluxing the 2,2′-sulfide bis(4-methyl phenol) and 2,2′-sulfoxide bis(4-methyl phenol) with chloroacetonitrile in the presence of potassium carbonate, and subsequent basic reduction. Two novel series of poly(sulfide-ether-amide)s and poly(sulfoxide-ether-amide)s with aliphatic units in the main chain were prepared from diacids with various diamines. The polyamides were obtained in quantitative yields and their inherent viscosities were in the range of 0.43-0.89 dl g−1 at a concentration of 0.5 g dl−1 in N,N-dimethylacetamide (DMAc) solvent at 25 °C. They showed good thermal stability. The temperature for 10% weight loss in argon atmosphere was in the range of 350-415 °C. The polymers showed glass transition temperatures between 228 and 261 °C. Almost all of the polyamides were readily soluble in a variety of polar solvents such as N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO).  相似文献

Thermal degradation kinetics of poly(methylvinylsilylene-co-styrene) copolymers, viz., PMVSS-I to PMVSS-V obtained by reacting methylvinyldichlorosilane (MVDCS) and styrene in 1:0.25, 1:0.5, 1:1, 1:3 and 1:7 mole ratios under dechlorination conditions, using sodium, was studied by thermogravimetry. The homopolymer, poly(methylvinylsilane) (PMVS), synthesized from MVDCS using sodium was also subjected to the above study for comparative evaluation. The kinetic parameters for thermal degradation, viz., activation energy (E) and pre-exponential factor (A) for the above polymers were estimated by non-isothermal kinetic methods such as Mac Callum-Tanner (M-T), Horowitz-Metzger (H-M), Madhusudhanan-Krishnan-Ninan (MKN) and Coats-Redfern (C-R). The order for thermal degradation of PMVS was found to be almost 0. In the case of the copolymers, the order was 1 for PMVSS-I and 2 for PMVSS-II to PMVSS-V. The observed difference in the order for thermal degradation of PMVSS-I when compared to the other copolymers is attributed to the presence of polysilyl linkages in PMVSS-I. It was found that the activation energy and pre-exponential factor showed an increase in trend with increase in concentration of styrene in the copolymer system.  相似文献

The thermal degradation of poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) (PHB) was investigated by kinetic analyses in detail to clarify its complex degradation behavior, resulting in a finding of mixed mechanisms comprising at least a thermal random degradation with subsequent auto-accelerated transesterification, and a kinetically favored chain reaction from crotonate chain ends. The thermal degradation behavior of PHB varied with changes in time and/or temperature. From the kinetic analysis of changes in molecular weight, it was found that a non-auto-catalytic random degradation proceeding in the initial period was followed by an auto-accelerated reaction in the middle period. From the kinetic analysis of weight loss behavior, it is proposed that there are some kinetically favored scissions occurring at the chain ends, where the degradation proceeded by a 0th-order weight loss process in the middle stage. The observed 0th-order weight loss process was assumed to be an unzipping reaction occurring at ester groups neighboring the crotonate end groups.  相似文献

Summary : Chemical modification is useful to diversify poly(3-hydroxyalkanoate)s, for medical and industrial applications. In this manner, transesterification reactions of poly(3-hydroxy butyrate) were carried out under reflux condition of 1,2-dichlorobenzene in the presence of 1,4-butane diol, poly(ethylene glycol) bis(2-aminopropyl ether) with molecular weights of 1000 and 2000, poly(ethylene glycol)methacrylate or glycerol at 180 °C. Addition reactions of bromine and –SH groups of 3-mercaptopropionic acid to the double bond of poly(3-hydroxy-10-undecenoate) were also carried out. Functionalized poly(3-hydroxyalkanoate)s were characterized using 1H NMR, FTIR, GPC and thermal analysis techniques.  相似文献

Radiation effects on the formation of conjugated double bonds in the thermal degradation of poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) and poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) were investigated. Thin films of PVC and PVA were either irradiated with γ-rays at ambient temperature (pre-irradiation) and then subjected to thermal treatment, or irradiated at elevated temperatures (in situ irradiation). An extensive enhancement of the thermal degradation was observed for the pre-irradiation of the PVC films, which was more effective than the effect of the in situ irradiation at the same absorption dose. For the PVA degradation, however, the effect of the in situ irradiation was larger than that of the pre-irradiation. The results were explained and related mechanisms were discussed based on radiation-induced chemical reactions and their individual contributions to the thermal degradation behaviors of the two polymers. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A series of new poly(amine-hydrazide)s I were prepared from the dicarboxylic acid 4,4′-dicarboxy-4″-methyltriphenylamine with terephthalic dihydrazide (TPH) and isophthalic dihydrazide (IPH), respectively, via the Yamazaki phosphorylation reaction. Polymers I were readily soluble in many common organic solvents, and could be solution cast into transparent, tough, and flexible films with good mechanical properties. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) indicated that the hydrazide polymers had Tg’s in the range of 222-223 °C and could be thermally cyclodehydrated into the corresponding oxadiazole polymers in the range of 300-400 °C. The resulting poly(amine-1,3,4-oxadiazole)s II exhibited Tg’s in the range of 269-283 °C, 10% weight-loss temperatures in excess of 511 °C, and char yield at 800 °C in nitrogen higher than 63%. These poly(amine-hydrazide)s I exhibited strong UV-Vis absorption bands at 351-355 nm in NMP solution. Their photoluminescence spectra in NMP solution and film showed maximum bands around 459-461 nm in the blue region for I series. The hole-transporting and electrochromic properties are examined by electrochemical and spectroelectrochemical methods. Cyclic voltammograms of the poly(amine-hydrazide)s I prepared by casting polymer solution onto an indium-tin oxide (ITO)-coated glass substrate exhibited one reversible oxidation redox couples at 1.32-1.33 V vs. Ag/AgCl in acetonitrile solution. All obtained poly(amine-hydrazide)s I revealed excellent stability of electrochromic characteristics, changing color from original pale yellowish to blue.  相似文献

A series of multiblock poly(ether-ester)s based on poly(butylene succinate) (PBS) as the hard segments and hydrophilic poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) as the soft segments was synthesized with the aim of developing degradable polymers which could combine the mechanical properties of high performance elastomers with those of flexible plastics. The aliphatic poly(ether-ester)s were synthesized by the catalyzed two-step transesterification reaction of dimethyl succinate, 1,4-butanediol and α,ω-hydroxyl terminated poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO, = 1000 g/mol) in bulk. The content of soft PEO segments in the polymer chains was varied from about 10 to 50 mass%. The effect of the introduction of the soft PEO segments on the structure, thermal and physical properties, as well as on the biodegradation properties was investigated. The composition and structure of these aliphatic segmented copolyesters were determined by 1H NMR spectroscopy. The molecular weights of the polyesters were verified by gel permeation chromatography (GPC), as well as by viscometry of dilute solutions and polymer melts. The thermal properties were investigated using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The degree of crystallinity was determined by means of DSC and wide-angle X-ray scattering. A depression of melting temperature and a reduction of crystallinity of the hard segments with increasing content of PEO segments were observed. Biodegradation of the synthesized copolyesters, estimated in enzymatic degradation tests in phosphate buffer solution with Candida rugosa lipase at 37 °C was compared with hydrolytic degradation in the buffer solution. The weight losses of the samples were in the range from 2 to 10 mass%. GPC analysis confirmed that there were significant changes in molecular weight of copolyesters with higher content of PEO segments, up to 40% of initial values. This leads to conclusion that degradation mechanism of the poly(ether-ester)s based on PEO segments occurs through bulk degradation in addition to surface erosion.  相似文献

Two series of new aromatic poly(ester-imide)s were prepared from 1,5-bis(4-aminobenzoyloxy)naphthalene (p-1) and 1,5-bis(3-aminobenzoyloxy)naphthalene (m-1), respectively, with six commercially available aromatic tetracarboxylic dianhydrides via a conventional two-stage synthesis that included ring-opening polyaddition to give poly(amic acid)s followed by chemical imidization to polyimides. The intermediate poly(amic acid)s obtained in the first stage had inherent viscosities of 0.41-0.84 and 0.66-1.37 dl/g, respectively. All the para-series and most of the meta-series poly(ester-imide)s were semicrystalline and showed less solubility. Two of the meta-series poly(ester-imide)s derived from less rigid dianhydrides were amorphous and readily soluble in polar aprotic solvents, and they could be solution-cast into transparent and tough films with good mechanical properties. The meta-series polymers derived from rigid dianhydrides were generally semicrystalline and showed less solubility. Except for one example, the meta-series poly(ester-imide)s displayed discernible Tgs in the range 239-273 °C by DSC. All of these two series poly(ester-imide)s did not show significant decomposition below 450 °C in nitrogen or in air.  相似文献

Rapid and highly efficient synthesis of novel optically active poly(amide-imide)s (PAIs) 6(a-f) was achieved using microwave irradiation. These were made from the polycondensation reactions of 4,4-carbonyl-bis(phthaloyl-l-alanine) diacid chloride [N,N-(4,4-carbonyldiphthaloyl)] bisalanine diacid chloride 5 with six different derivatives of hydantoin and thiohydantoin compounds 4(a-f) in the presence of a small amount of a nonpolar organic medium that acts as a primary microwave absorber. Hydantoin and thiohydantoin derivatives 4(a-e) were synthesis from the reactions between benzil or benzil derivatives 3(a-e) with urea and thiourea. 5,5-Dimethylhydantoin 4f was synthesis from the reactions between acetone cyanohydrin 3f and ammonium carbonate. The polycondensation proceeded rapidly, and was completed within 10 min giving a series of PAIs with an inherent viscosity about 0.25-0.45 dL/g. The resulting PAIs 6(a-f) were obtained in a high yield and were optically active and thermally stable. All of the above compounds were fully characterized by means of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, elemental analyses, inherent viscosity (ηinh), solubility tests and specific rotation. Thermal properties of the PAIs 6(a-f) were investigated using thermal gravimetric analysis.  相似文献

Microwave irradiation was applied to synthesize to the bulk synthesis of novel poly(ether-ester)s based on diol-ether of isosorbide (1) and adipoyl chloride (2) or terephthaloyl chloride (3). Thus, the poly(ether-ester)s (4 and 5) consist partially of isosorbide. In order to check the influence of microwaves and possible specific non-thermal microwave effects, the reactions were comparatively performed inside a thermostated oil bath under similar conditions. The reaction conditions were varied to optimize both yields and molecular weights of poly(ether-ester)s. The reaction proceeded roughly five times faster under microwave irradiation, the polycondensation being almost completed (yields upto approximately 95%) within 5 min to afford a series of novel poly(ether-ester)s based with relatively high average molecular weights (Mw upto approximately 8000). The resulting poly(ether-ester)s were characterized by NMR (1H and 13C), FT-IR spectrometry, SEC measurements and MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry. Thermal properties of the poly(ether-ester)s (4 and 5) were investigated by means of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC).  相似文献

The kinetics and mechanism of the thermal degradation of poly(diethyl fumarate) (PDEF) were studied by thermogravimetry, as well as by analysis of the thermolysis volatiles and polymer residue. The characteristic mass loss temperatures were determined, as were the overall thermal degradation activation energies of three PDEF samples of varying molar mass. Ethylene and ethanol were present in the thermolysis volatiles at degradation temperatures below 300 °C, while diethyl fumarate was also evidenced at higher degradation temperatures. The amount of monomer increased with increasing degradation temperature. The dependence of the molar mass of the residual polymer on the degradation time and temperature was established and the number of main-chain scissions per monomer unit, s/P0, calculated. A thermal degradation mechanism including de-esterification and random main-chain scission is proposed. The thermal degradation of PDEF was compared to the thermolysis of poly(ethyl methacrylate) (PEMA), poly(diethyl itaconate) (PDEI) and poly(ethyl acrylate) (PEA).  相似文献
