We propose new brane world models arising from a scalar field in the bulk. In these examples, the induced on-brane line element is de Sitter (or anti de Sitter) and the bulk (five dimensional) Einstein equations can be exactly solved to obtain warped spacetimes. The solutions thus derived are single and two-brane models—one with thin branes while the other one of the thick variety. The field profiles and the potentials are obtained and analysed for each case. We note that for the thick brane scenario the field profile resembles a kink, whereas for one or more thin branes, it is finite and bounded in the domain of the extra dimension. We have also addressed the localisation of gravity and other matter fields on the brane for these braneworld models.  相似文献

This work reports on models described by two real scalar fields coupled with gravity in the five-dimensional spacetime, with a warped geometry involving one infinite extra dimension. Through a mechanism that smoothly changes a thick brane into a hybrid brane, one investigates the appearance of hybrid branes hosting internal structure, characterized by the splitting on the energy density and the volcano potential, induced by the parameter which controls interactions between the two scalar fields. In particular, we investigate distinct symmetric and asymmetric hybrid brane scenarios.  相似文献

We revisit the issue of the quark masses and mixing angles in the framework of large extra dimension. We consider three identical standard model families resulting from higher-dimensional fields localized on different branes embedded in a large extra dimension. Furthermore we use a decaying profile in the bulk different form previous works. With the Higgs field also localized on a different brane, the hierarchy of masses between the families results from their different positions in the extra space. When the left-handed doublet and the right-handed singlets are localized with different couplings on the branes, we found a set of brane locations in one extra dimension which leads to the correct quark masses and mixing angles with the sufficient strength of CP-violation. We see that the decaying profile of the Higgs field plays a crucial role for producing the hierarchies in a rather natural way.  相似文献

In this work we investigate the issue of fermion localization and resonances in (4,1)-deformed branes constructed with one scalar field coupled with gravity. Such models provide us branes with internal structures that turns the gravitational interaction more effective for fermions aside the brane, increasing their lifetime. The coupling between the scalar field and spinors is a necessary condition for fermions to be localized on such branes. After performing a chiral decomposition of the five-dimensional spinor we found resonances with both chiralities. The correspondence between the spectra for left and right chirality is guaranteed and Dirac fermions are realized on the brane.  相似文献

We propose a new approach towards the understanding of confinement. Starting from an anisotropic five-dimensional pure gauge theory, we approach a second order phase transition where the system reduces dimensionally. Dimensional reduction is realized via localization of the gauge and scalar degrees of freedom on four-dimensional branes. The gauge coupling deriving from the brane Wilson loop observable runs like an asymptotically free coupling at short distance, while it exhibits clear signs of string formation at long distance. The regularization used is the lattice. We take the continuum limit by keeping the ratio of the lattice spacing in the brane over the lattice spacing along the extra dimension constant and smaller than one.  相似文献

We discuss a stabilized brane world model with two branes, allowing a solution to the hierarchy problem due to the warped extra dimension and having a remarkable feature: the strength of gravitational interaction is of the same order on both branes, contrary to the case of the Randall-Sundrum model with a hierarchical difference of the gravitational strength on the branes. The solution also admits the existence of two branes with equal gravity strengths. The article is published in the original.  相似文献

Following a previous work (García-Aspeitia in Gen Rel Grav 43:315–329, 2011), we further study the behavior of a real scalar field in a hidden brane in a configuration of two branes embedded in a five dimensional bulk. We find an expression for the equation of state for this scalar field in the visible brane in terms of the fields of the hidden one. Additionally, we investigated the perturbations produced by this scalar field in the visible brane with the aim to study their dynamical properties. Our results show that if the kinetic energy of the scalar field dominates during the early universe the perturbed scalar field could mimic the observed dynamics for the dark matter in the standard paradigm. Thus, the scalar field dark matter hypothesis in the context of braneworld theory could be an interesting alternative to the nature of dark matter in the Universe.  相似文献

This Letter is a study of the effects of higher dimensional gravity and Brans–Dicke (BD) scalar field on cosmic acceleration in 5-D BD cosmological model. We assume a flat cosmological model in which the matter content of the universe is either cold dark matter or radiation. In a framework to study attractor solutions in the phase space we simultaneously constrain the model parameters with the observational data for distance modulus. The phase space analysis illustrates that the universe begins from an unstable state in the past and eventually reaches an asymptotically stable state (attractor). We examine the model by performing Hubble parameter test in addition to statefinder diagnosis. We also reconstruct the equation of state parameter, the scale factor in 3-D space and along extra dimension. The results show that due to the presence of extra dimension and Brans–Dicke scalar field in the model, the universe undergoes a period of acceleration.  相似文献

The model of a domain wall (“thick” brane) in noncompact five-dimensional spacetime is considered with geometries of AdS 5 type generated by self-interacting scalar matter. The scalar matter is composed of two fields with O(2) symmetric self interaction. One of them is mixed with gravity scalar modes and plays role of the brane formation mode (due to a kink background) and another one is of a Higgs-field type. The interplay between soft breaking of O(2) symmetry and gravity influence is thoroughly investigated around the critical point of spontaneous t symmetry breaking when the v.e.v. of the Higgs-type scalar field occurs. The possibility of (quasi)localization of scalar modes on such thick branes is examined.  相似文献

In this work we extend an analysis due to Visser of the effective propagation of a neutral scalar particle on a brane world scenario which is a particular solution of the five dimensional Einstein-Maxwell equations with cosmological constant having an electric field pointing in the extra spatial dimension. We determine the dispersion relations of a charged scalar particle to first order in a perturbative analysis around those of the neutral particle. Since depending on whether the particle is charged or not the dispersion relations change, we could collect bulk information, namely the presence of the electric field, by studying the 4D dynamics of the particles. It is a pleasure to dedicate this work to Alberto García on the occasion of his 60th birthday.  相似文献

We derive effective actions for "spacelike branes" (S-branes) and find a solution describing the formation of fundamental strings in the rolling tachyon background. The S-brane action is a Dirac-Born-Infeld action for Euclidean world volumes defined in the context of time-dependent tachyon condensation of non-BPS (Bogomol'nyi-Prasad-Sommerfield) branes. It includes gauge fields and, in particular, a scalar field associated with translation along the time direction. We show that the BIon spike solutions constructed in this system correspond to the production of a confined electric flux tube (a fundamental string) at late time of the rolling tachyon.  相似文献

We study a nonminimal derivative coupling (NMDC) of scalar field, where the scalar field is coupled to curvature tensor in the five dimensional universal extra dimension model. We apply the Einstein equation and find its solution. First, we consider a special case of pure free scalar field without NMDC and we find that for static extradimension, the solution is equivalent to the standard cosmology with stiff matter. For a general case of pure free scalar field with NMDC, we find that the de Sitter solution is the solution of our model. For this solution, the scalar field evolves linearly in time. In the limit of small Hubble parameter, the general case give us the same solution as in the pure free scalar field. Finally, we perform a dynamical analysis to determine the stability of our model. We find that the extradimension, if it exist, can not be static and always shrinks with the expansion of four dimensional spacetime.  相似文献

We review the worldsheet analysis for intersecting branes with focus on small and large angles. For small angles, we review the Yang‐Mills fluctuation analysis in [1] and find an additional family of massless modes. They are the components of a Goldstone scalar corresponding to the spontaneously broken U(2)‐gauge symmetry. For branes at large angles, we derive an effective tachyon field theory from BSFT results. We show how the gauge symmetry of this system implies a mass spectrum which is consistent with the worldsheet analysis.  相似文献

It is shown that a general class of solutions to Einstein's empty-space equation, with a cosmological constant, give automatic confinement of a scalar field to an approximately flat space of one dimension less.  相似文献

A cosmological scenario with two branes (A and B) moving in a 5-dimensional bulk is considered. As in the case of ecpyrotic and born-again braneworld models it is possible that the branes collide. The energy-momentum tensor is taken to describe a perfect barotropic fluid on the A-brane and a phenomenological time-dependent cosmological constant on the B-brane. The A-brane is identified with our Universe and its cosmological evolution in the approximation of a homogeneous and isotropic brane is analysed. The dynamics of the radion (a scalar field on the brane) contains information about the proper distance between the branes. It is demonstrated that the deSitter type solutions are obtained for late time evolution of the braneworld and accelerative behaviour is anticipated at the present time.  相似文献

We consider a standard model singlet which is accessible to a single extra dimension and its zero mode is localized with Gaussian profile around a point different from the origin. This zero-mode scalar is a possible candidate for the dark matter and its annihilation rate is sensitive to the compactification radius of the extra dimension, the localization width and the position. For the case of non-resonant annihilation, we estimated the dark matter scalar location around a point, at a distance ∼3× localization width from the origin, by using the annihilation rate which is based on the current relic density.  相似文献

We discuss the Casimir effect for massless scalar fields subject to the Dirichlet boundary conditions on the parallel plates at finite temperature in the presence of one fractal extra compactified dimension. We obtain the Casimir energy density with the help of the regularization of multiple zeta function with one arbitrary exponent and further the renormalized Casimir energy density involving the thermal corrections. It is found that when the temperature is sufficiently high, the sign of the Casimir energy remains negative no matter how great the scale dimension δ is within its allowed region. We derive and calculate the Casimir force between the parallel plates affected by the fractal additional compactified dimension and surrounding temperature. The stronger thermal influence leads the force to be stronger. The nature of the Casimir force keeps attractive.  相似文献

Five dimensional geodesic equation is used to study the gravitational force acted on a test particle in the bulk of the Randall-Sundrum two-brane model. This force could be interpreted as the gravitational attraction from matters on the two branes and may cause the model to be unstable. By analogy with star models in astrophysics, a fluid RS model is proposed in which the bulk is filled with a fluid and this fluid has an anisotropic pressure to balance the gravity from the two branes. Thus a class of exact bulk solutions is obtained which shows that any 4D Einstein solution with a perfect fluid source can be embedded in y = constant hypersurfaces in the bulk to form an equilibrium state of the brane model. By requiring a 4D effective curvature to have a minimum, the compactification size of the extra dimension is discussed.  相似文献

We discuss a new solution, admitting the existence of dS 4 branes, in five-dimensional Brans-Dicke theory. It is shown that, due to a special form of a bulk scalar field potential, for certain values of the model parameters the effective cosmological constant can be made small on the brane, where the hierarchy problem of gravitational interaction is solved. We also discuss new stabilization mechanism which is based on the use of auxiliary fields.  相似文献

The Casimir effect for massless scalar fields satisfying Dirichlet boundary conditions on the parallel plates in the presence of one fractal extra compactified dimension is analyzed. We obtain the Casimir energy density by means of the regularization of multiple zeta function with one arbitrary exponent. We find a limit on the scale dimension like $\delta>\frac{1}{2}$ to keep the negative sign of the renormalized Casimir energy which is the difference between the regularized energy for two parallel plates and the one with no plates. We derive and calculate the Casimir force relating to the influence from the fractal additional compactified dimension between the parallel plates. The larger scale dimension leads to the greater revision on the original Casimir force. The two kinds of curves of Casimir force in the case of integer-numbered extra compactified dimension or fractal one are not superposition, which means that the Casimir force show whether the dimensionality of additional compactified space is integer or fraction.  相似文献
