We consider a singularly perturbed boundary-value eigenvalue problem for the Laplace operator in a cylinder with rapidly alternating type of the boundary condition on the lateral surface. The change of the boundary conditions is realized by splitting the lateral surface into many narrow strips on which the Dirichlet and Neumann conditions alternate. We study the case in which the averaged problem contains the Dirichlet boundary condition on the lateral surface. In the case of strips with slowly varying width we construct the first terms of the asymptotic expansions of eigenfunctions; moreover, in the case of strips with rapidly varying width we obtain estimates for the convergence rate.  相似文献

We show that the combinatorial Laplace operators associated to the boundary maps in a shifted simplicial complex have all integer spectra. We give a simple combinatorial interpretation for the spectra in terms of vertex degree sequences, generalizing a theorem of Merris for graphs.

We also conjecture a majorization inequality for the spectra of these Laplace operators in an arbitrary simplicial complex, with equality achieved if and only if the complex is shifted. This generalizes a conjecture of Grone and Merris for graphs.

We study the properties of an approximation of the Laplace operator with Neumann boundary conditions using volume penalization. For the one-dimensional Poisson equation we compute explicitly the exact solution of the penalized equation and quantify the penalization error. Numerical simulations using finite differences allow then to assess the discretization and penalization errors. The eigenvalue problem of the penalized Laplace operator with Neumann boundary conditions is also studied. As examples in two space dimensions, we consider a Poisson equation with Neumann boundary conditions in rectangular and circular domains.  相似文献

The paper deals with conformally invariant higher‐order operators acting on spinor‐valued functions, such that their symbols are given by powers of the Dirac operator. A general classification result proves that these are unique, up to a constant multiple. A general construction for such an invariant operators on manifolds with a given conformal spin structure was described in (Conformally Invariant Powers of the Ambient Dirac Operator. ArXiv math.DG/0112033, preprint), generalizing the case of powers of the Laplace operator from (J. London Math. Soc. 1992; 46 :557–565). Although there is no hope to obtain explicit formulae for higher powers of the Laplace or Dirac operator on a general manifold, it is possible to write down an explicit formula on Einstein manifolds in case of the Laplace operator (see Laplacian Operators and Curvature on Conformally Einstein Manifolds. ArXiv: math/0506037, 2006). Here we shall treat the spinor case on the sphere. We shall compute the explicit form of such operators on the sphere, and we shall show that they coincide with operators studied in (J. Four. Anal. Appl. 2002; 8 (6):535–563). In this article we study the top of the spectrum of the normalized Laplace operator on infinite graphs. We introduce the dual Cheeger constant and show that it controls the top of the spectrum from above and below in a similar way as the Cheeger constant controls the bottom of the spectrum. Moreover, we show that the dual Cheeger constant at infinity can be used to characterize that the essential spectrum of the normalized Laplace operator shrinks to one point.  相似文献

We generalize the method of regularized traces which calculates eigenvalues of a perturbed discrete operator for the case of an arbitrary multiplicity of eigenvalues of the unperturbed operator. We obtain a system of equations, enabling one to calculate eigenvalues of the perturbed operator with large ordinal numbers.
