Measurements of CP-violating asymmetries in B0-->a1+/-(1260)pi-/+ decays

We present measurements of CP-violating asymmetries in the decay B(0)-->a(1)(+/-)(1260)pi(-/+) with a(1)(+/-)(1260)-->pi(-/+)pi(+/-)pi(+/-). The data sample corresponds to 384x10(6) BB[over ] pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric B factory at SLAC. We measure the CP-violating asymmetry A(CP)(a(1)pi)=-0.07+/-0.07+/-0.02, the mixing-induced CP violation parameter S(a(1)pi)=0.37+/-0.21+/-0.07, the direct CP violation parameter C(a(1)pi)=-0.10+/-0.15+/-0.09, and the parameters DeltaC(a(1)pi)=0.26+/-0.15+/-0.07 and DeltaS(a(1)pi)=-0.14+/-0.21+/-0.06. From these measured quantities we determine the angle alpha(eff)=78.6 degrees +/-7.3 degrees.     

W pair production by Z0 pair fusion

Using the effective gauge boson approximation we calculate the invariant mass distribution and longitudinal polarization fraction for the production of W⁺W⁻ pairs by Z⁰ pair fusion at a collider energy of 40 TeV. The mass distribution is compared with the case where the production is by W⁺W₋ pair fusion. Results are presented for Higgs masses of 0.5 and 1 TeV.     

Gravitational couplings and Z2 orientifolds

The interplay between gravitational couplings on branes and the occurrence of fractional flux in low-dimensional orientifolds is examined. It is argued that gravitational couplings need to be assigned not only to D-branes but also to orientifold planes. The fractional charges of the orientifold d-planes can be understood in terms of flux quantization of the d − 3 form potential and modified Bianchi identities. Detailed results are presented for the case of the type IIB orientifold on T⁶/Z₂, which is dual to F-theory on a complex 4-fold with terminal singularities.     

Lifetime difference and CP-violating phase in the Bs0 system

From an analysis of the decay Bs0-->J/psi phi, we obtain the width difference between the light and heavy mass eigenstates DeltaGamma identical with (GammaL-GammaH)=0.17+/-0.09(stat)+/-0.02(syst) ps-1 and the CP-violating phase phis=-0.79+/-0.56(stat)(-0.01)(+0.14)(syst). Under the hypothesis of no CP violation (phis identical with 0), we obtain 1/Gamma=tau(Bs0)=1.52+/-0.08(stat)(-0.03)(+0.01)(syst) ps and DeltaGamma=0.12(-0.10)(+0.08)(stat)+/-0.02(syst) ps-1. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of about 1.1 fb-1 accumulated with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. This is the first direct measurement of the CP-violating mixing phase in the Bs0 system.     

W ± Z 0 signals from the strongly interacting symmetry breaking sector

We study the possibilities of unraveling the underlying dynamics of the symmetry breaking sector through the scattering of longitudinal weak bosons inpp collisions.W ^± Z ⁰ channels are considered in the context of a general approach based on chiral perturbation theory, supplemented by a unitarization procedure. The channels considered here are the relevant ones for symmetry breaking sector dynamics such as technicolor, where aI=J=1 resonance appears in the spectrum. DirectWZ production from quark annihilation viap _tc-W mixing is also considered and compared withWZ production from theWZ fusion mechanism.
