At linear colliders, the e + e luminosity is limited by beam-collision effects, which determine the required emittances of beams in damping rings (DRs). In γγ collisions at the photon collider, these effects are absent, and so smaller emittances are desirable. In the present damping ring designs, nominal DR parameters correspond to those required for e + e collisions. In this note, I would like to stress once again that as soon as we plan the photon collider mode of ILC operation, the damping ring emittances are dictated by the photon collider requirements — namely, they should be as small as possible. This can be achieved by adding more wigglers to the DRs; the incremental cost is easily justified by a considerable potential improvement of the γγ luminosity. No expert analysis exists as of now, but it seems realistic to obtain a factor five increase of the γγ luminosity compared to the ‘nominal’ DR design.   相似文献

One of the interaction regions at the linear colliders should be compatible both with e + e and γγ, γe modes of operation. In this paper, the differences in requirements and possible design solutions are discussed.   相似文献

We examine the sensitivity of colliders (based on e + e linear colliders of c.m. energy 500 GeV) to the anomalous couplings of the Higgs to W-boson via the process e γνWH. This has the advantage over e + e collider in being able to dissociate WWH vertex from ZZH. We are able to construct several dynamical variables which may be used to constrain the various couplings in the WWH vertex.   相似文献

We present a study of anomalous electroweak gauge-boson couplings that can be measured in e+e- and γγ collisions at a future linear collider like ILC. We consider the gauge-boson sector of a locally SU(2)×U(1) invariant effective Lagrangian with ten dimension-six operators added to the Lagrangian of the standard model. These operators induce anomalous three-gauge-boson and four-gauge-boson couplings and an anomalous γγH coupling. We calculate the reachable sensitivity for the measurement of the anomalous couplings in γγ→WW. We compare these results with the reachable precision in the reaction e+e-→WW on the one hand and with the bounds that one can obtain from high-precision observables in Z decays on the other hand. We show that one needs both the e+e- and the γγ modes at an ILC to constrain the largest possible number of anomalous couplings and that the Giga-Z mode offers the best sensitivity for certain anomalous couplings.  相似文献

Several studies have been made to the hadronic final states in e + e collisions at LEP. Studies of the annihilation process at LEP2 have given rise to results on jet rate, event shape, heavy flavour production, inclusive momentum spectra, Bose-Einstein correlation and colour reconnection effects. Event shape studies have given rise to accurate determination of the strong coupling constant α s using O (α s 2 ) with resummed leading and next-to-leading log calculation and also with power law corrections. Studies of 2-photon processes have yielded results on γγ cross-section, heavy flavour production, photon structure function and γ*γ* scattering.  相似文献

We have performed a detailed study of the power losses in the post-collision extraction line of a TeV e + e collider with a crossing angle of 20 mrad at the interaction point. Five cases were considered: four luminosity configurations for ILC and one for CLIC. For all of them, the strong beam-beam effects at the interaction point lead to an emittance growth for the outgoing beam, as well as to the production of beamstrahlung photons and e + e coherent pairs. The power losses along the extraction line, which are due to energy deposition by a fraction of the disrupted beam, of the beamstrahlung photons and of the coherent pairs, were estimated in the case of ideal collisions, as well as with a vertical position or angular offset at the interaction point.   相似文献

The international linear e + e collider (ILC) could go into operation in the second half of the upcoming decade. Experimental analyses and theory calculations for the physics at the ILC are currently performed. We review recent progress, as presented at the LCWS06 in Bangalore, India, in the fields of Higgs boson physics and top/QCD. Also the area of loop calculations, necessary to achieve the required theory precision, is included.   相似文献

An event-shape analysis of the dileptons in the process e + e → ℓ+ , studied in ILC or CLIC, can clearly discriminate between a supersymmetric or a large extra dimensional (ADD) production mechanism.   相似文献

A longitudinal polarized positron beam is foreseen for the international linear collider (ILC). A proof-of-principle experiment has been performed in the final focus test beam at SLAC to demonstrate the production of polarized positrons for implementation at the ILC. The E166 experiment uses a 1 m long helical undulator in a 46.6 GeV electron beam to produce a few MeV photons with a high degree of circular polarization. These photons are then converted in a thin target to generate longitudinally polarized e + and e . The positron polarization is measured using a Compton transmission polarimeter. The data analysis has shown asymmetries in the expected vicinity of 3.4% and ∼1% for photons and positrons respectively and the expected positron longitudinal polarization is covering a range from 50% to 90%.   相似文献

We consider the UED scenario and study the detectability of the first KK electron-positron pair at the ILC. A few hundred GeV KK electron decays into a nearly degenerate KK photon, which carries away missing energy, and the standard electron. The mass splitting between the KK electron and KK photon is controlled by the bulk-and brane-induced radiative corrections. We look for the signal event e + e + large missing energy for √s = 1 TeV and observe that with a few hundred fb−1 luminosity the signal can be deciphered from the standard model background. We briefly outline how the UED signals may be distinguished from the supersymmetric signals. This talk is based on a work the author did with Paramita Dey, Anirban Kundu and Amitava Raychaudhuri [1].  相似文献

With the use of transverse polarization (TP), a CP-odd and T-odd observable can be constructed when the final-state particles are self-conjugate. In the case of HZ production, this observable can be used to probe a certain effective four-point e + e ZH CP-violating coupling, not accessible without TP. Effective CP-violating ZZH coupling does not contribute to this observable. A similar observable in γZ production can be used to probe e + e γZ four-point couplings.   相似文献

One-loop electroweak corrections to observables of the reaction e e e e (γ) were calculated over a broad range of energies: from conditions of the MOLLER experiment at the Thomas Jefferson Laboratory (JLab) to those of planned experiments at the International Linear Collider (ILC). The dependence of various contributions to the observable polarization asymmetry on various renormalization conditions was studied within the scheme of on-shell renormalization. The results were obtained by two methods: precisely, by applying the FeynArts, FormCalc, LoopTools, and Form computer codes, and approximately, with the aid of the asymptotic-estimation methods. The resulting compact formulas are absolutely free from nonphysical parameters and are convenient for deducing numerical estimates. It is shown that the total one-loop correction is independent of renormalization conditions and takes an identical value within different computational schemes.  相似文献

We review high-energy scattering processes that are sensitive to the hadronic structure of the photon, describing theoretical predictions as well as recent experimental results. These processes include deep-inelastic electron-photon scattering ate + e colliders; and the production of jets, heavy quarks and isolated photons in the collision of real photons ate + e colliders, as well as in photon-photon collisions atep colliders. We also comment on minijet based calculations of totalγp andγγ cross-sections, and discuss the possibility that future lineare + e colliders might produce very large photon fluxes due to the beamstrahlung phenomenon; in the most extreme cases, we predict more than one hadronicγγ event to occur at every bunch crossing.  相似文献

Decays of the η and the η′ represent a significant portion of the scientific program with the Crystal Ball at MAMI. This review summarizes the current status of the program and discusses some recent results, such as the slope parameter of the η → 3π0 Dalitz plot, the matrix element of η → π0γγ and the invariant mass of e + e γ from the η → e + e γ Dalitz decay. Possible future measurements are discussed.  相似文献

The physics at the plannede + e - colliders is discussed around three main topics corresponding to different manifestations of symmetry breaking:W physics in the no Higgs scenario, studies of the properties of the Higgs and precision tests of SUSY. A comparison with the LHC is made for all these cases. The γγ mode of the linear collider will also be reviewed.  相似文献

In this paper we examine the possibility of having an exception to the recent observation by L. Randall amd M. Wise, which states that “a significant branching ratios to both e + e and γ γ is possible only if new physics beyond that in the SM couples directly to electrons”. We consider resonances decaying into diphotons and dielectrons final states predicted in U(1) BL extensions of the SM. We find that these new resonances can’t decay into e + e and γ γ final states with comparably measurable branching ratios although such resonances are directly coupled to electrons.  相似文献

The production of electron-positron pairs by a photon propagating in a thermal bath in both zero and strong (B ≫ 4.41 × 1013 G) magnetic fields has been considered. The mean free path has been calculated for the high-energy photon propagating through a thermodynamically equilibrium photon gas along the magnetic field lines so that the γ → e e + decay is kinematically forbidden. It has been shown that the strong magnetic field suppresses the probability of the γγ′ → e e + process. The analyzed process can be useful for analysis of possible mechanisms of the generation of the e e + plasma in the regions of the polar caps of magnetars.  相似文献

Monte-Carlo generator with photon jets radiation in collinear regions for the process e + e γγ is described in detail. Radiative corrections in the first order of α are treated exactly. Large leading logarithmic corrections coming from collinear regions are taken into account in all orders of α by applying the Structure Function approach. Theoretical precision of the cross section with radiative corrections is estimated to be 0.2%. This process is considered as an additional tool to measure luminosity in forthcoming experiments with the CMD-3 detector at the e + e collider VEPP-2000.  相似文献

Though the predictions of the standard model (SM) are in excellent agreement with experiments, there are still several theoretical problems associated with the Higgs sector of the SM, where it is widely believed that some new physics will take over at the TeV scale. One beyond the SM theory which resolves these problems is the Little Higgs (LH) model. In this work we have investigated the effects of the LH model on γγγγ scattering [1].   相似文献

The next-generation high-energy facilities, the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and the prospective e + e International Linear Collider (ILC), are expected to unravel new structures of matter and forces from the electroweak scale to the TeV scale. In this report we review the complementary role of LHC and ILC in drawing a comprehensive and high-precision picture of the mechanism breaking the electroweak symmetries and generating mass, and the unification of forces in the frame of supersymmetry. Extended version of Ref. [1] to be published in “Supersymmetry on the Eve of the LHC”, a special volume of European Physical Journal C, Particles and Fields (EPJC) in memory of Julius Wess.  相似文献
