In the present work, we propose a new set of coherent structures that arise in nonlinear dynamical lattices with more than one component, namely interlaced solitons. In the anti-continuum limit of uncoupled sites, these are waveforms whose one component has support where the other component does not. We illustrate systematically how one can combine dynamically stable unary patterns to create stable ones for the binary case of two-components. For the one-dimensional setting, we provide a detailed theoretical analysis of the existence and stability of these waveforms, while in higher dimensions, where such analytical computations are far more involved, we resort to corresponding numerical computations. Lastly, we perform direct numerical simulations to showcase how these structures break up, when they are exponentially or oscillatorily unstable, to structures with a smaller number of participating sites.  相似文献

The present work examines in detail the existence, stability and dynamics of travelling solitary waves in a Schrödinger lattice with saturable nonlinearity. After analysing the linear spectrum of the problem in the travelling wave frame, a pseudo-spectral numerical method is used to identify weakly nonlocal solitary waves. By finding zeros of an appropriately crafted tail condition, we can obtain the genuinely localized pulse-like solutions. Subsequent use of continuation methods allows us to obtain the relevant branches of solutions as a function of the system parameters, such as the frequency and intersite coupling strength. We examine the stability of the solutions in two ways: both by imposing numerical perturbations and observing the solution dynamics, as well as by considering the solutions as fixed points of an appropriate map and computing the corresponding Floquet matrix and its eigenvalues. Both methods indicate that our solutions are robustly localized. Finally, the interactions of these solutions are examined in collision type phenomena, observing that relevant collisions are near-elastic, although they may, under appropriate conditions, lead to the generation of an additional pulse.  相似文献

Optical solitons in a monomode fiber   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4
We discuss the propagation of optical solitons in a monomode fiber as a model of long-distance-high-bit-rate transmission system. We give several new results which did not appear in our previous papers on this subject, such as (1) a derivation of the perturbed nonlinear Schrödinger equation from the Maxwell equation, (2) on the integrability of the perturbed nonlinear Schrödinger equation, (3) a discussion of the soliton as a stable fixed point of certain infinite-dimensional map generated by a transmission system with periodic excitations. On leave of absence from The Ohio State University, Department of Mathematics, Columbus, Ohio 43210.  相似文献

We investigate the collision of two oblique dark solitons in the two-dimensional supersonic nonlinear Schrödinger flow past two impenetrable obstacles. We numerically show that this collision is very similar to the dark solitons collision in the one-dimensional case. We observe that it is practically elastic and we measure the shifts of the solitons positions after their interaction.  相似文献

We investigate the properties of modulational instability and discrete breathers in the cubic-quintic discrete nonlinear Schrödinger equation. We analyze the regions of modulational instabilities of nonlinear plane waves. Using the Page approach [J.B. Page, Phys. Rev. B 41 (1990) 7835], we derive the conditions for the existence and stability for bright discrete breather solutions. It is shown that the quintic nonlinearity brings qualitatively new conditions for stability of strongly localized modes. The application to the existence of localized modes in the Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) with three-body interactions in an optical lattice is discussed. The numerical simulations agree with the analytical predictions.  相似文献

It is shown that the effect of “scattering on resonance” can be used to control envelope solitons in the driven nonlinear Schrödinger equation. The control occurs by the frequency modulated driving with multiple crossing of the resonant frequency of the soliton.  相似文献

We address the physical features exhibited by spatial optical solitons propagating in nonlocal Kerr-type media with Gaussian-shaped response and exponential-decay response, respectively. An iteration algorithm based on the split-step Fourier method is developed to obtain the numerical solutions of the solitons for the nonlocal nonlinear Schrödinger equation with arbitrary degrees of nonlocality. Our numerical results show that the soliton properties in the normalized system are different with the change of the degree of nonlocality and with the different responses. The profiles undergo a gradual and continuous transition from a Gaussian-shaped function in the strongly nonlocal case to a hyperbolic secant function in the local case for the Gaussian-shaped response, but for the exponential-decay response, the soliton profile is not Gaussian-shaped even in the strongly nonlocal cases. For the same response function, the stronger the nonlocality is, the higher the critical powers for solitons are and the larger of the phase shifts of the solitons. For the same degrees of nonlocality, when the degrees of nonlocality is larger enough, both the critical power and the phase shift for the Gaussian-shaped response are larger than that for the exponential-decay response.  相似文献

We study the discrete nonlinear Schrödinger lattice model with the onsite nonlinearity of the general form, |u|2σu. We systematically verify the conditions for the existence and stability of discrete solitons in the one-dimensional version of the model predicted by means of the variational approximation (VA), and demonstrate the following: monostability of fundamental solitons (FSs) in the case of the weak nonlinearity, 2σ+1<3.68; bistability, in a finite range of values of the soliton’s power, for 3.68<2σ+1<5; and the presence of a threshold (minimum norm of the FS), for 2σ+1≥5. We also perform systematic numerical simulations to study higher-order solitons in the same general model, i.e., bound states of the FSs. While all in-phase bound states are unstable, stability regions are identified for antisymmetric double solitons and their triple counterparts. These numerical findings are supplemented by an analytical treatment of the stability problem, which allows quantitively accurate predictions for the stability features of such multipulses. When these waveforms are found to be unstable, we show, by means of direct simulations, that they self-trap into a persistent lattice breather, or relax into a stable FS, or sometimes decay completely.  相似文献

We consider the question of persistence of breather solutions of the discrete NLS equation under time-periodic perturbations corresponding to small amplitude diffraction management. The question is formulated as a problem of continuation of tori in an infinite-dimensional Hamiltonian system with symmetries and we show that one-peak breathers of the discrete NLS with zero residual diffraction can be continued to periodic or quasiperiodic solutions of the discrete NLS with small residual diffraction and small amplitude diffraction management, provided that a nonresonance condition is satisfied. We also present numerical evidence that a similar continuation should be possible for certain single-, and multi-peak breathers of the discrete NLS with small diffraction.  相似文献

The effect of instability on the propagation of solitary waves along one-dimensional discrete nonlinear Schrödinger equation with cubic nonlinearity is revisited. A self-contained quasicontinuum approximation is developed to derive closed-form expressions for small-amplitude solitary waves. The notion that the existence of nonlinear solitary waves in discrete systems is a signature of the modulation instability is used. With the help of this notion we conjecture that instability effects on moving solitons can be qualitative estimated from the analytical solutions. Results from numerical simulations are presented to support this conjecture.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with systems of coupled Schrödinger equations with polynomial nonlinearities and dimension n≥1. We show the existence of global self-similar solutions and prove that they are asymptotically stable in a framework based on weak-Lp spaces, whose elements have local finite L2-mass. The radial symmetry of the solutions is also addressed.  相似文献

We address the persistence and stability of three-dimensional vortex configurations in the discrete nonlinear Schrödinger equation and develop a symbolic package based on Wolfram’s MATHEMATICA for computations of the Lyapunov-Schmidt reduction method. The Lyapunov-Schmidt reduction method is a theoretical tool which enables us to study continuations and terminations of the discrete vortices for small coupling between lattice nodes as well as the spectral stability of the persistent configurations. The method was developed earlier in the context of the two-dimensional lattice and applied to the onsite and offsite configurations (called the vortex cross and the vortex cell) by using semianalytical computations [D.E. Pelinovsky, P.G. Kevrekidis, D. Frantzeskakis, Physica D 212 (2005) 20-53; P.G. Kevrekidis, D.E. Pelinovsky, Proc. R. Soc. A 462 (2006) 2671-2694]. The present treatment develops a full symbolic computational package which takes a desired waveform at the anticontinuum limit of uncoupled sites, performs a required number of Lyapunov-Schmidt reductions and outputs the predictions on whether the configuration persists, for finite coupling, in the three-dimensional lattice and whether it is stable or unstable. It also provides approximations for the eigenvalues of the linearized stability problem. We report a number of applications of the algorithm to important multisite three-dimensional configurations, such as the simple cube, the double cross and the diamond. For each configuration, we identify exactly one solution, which is stable for small coupling between lattice nodes.  相似文献

We demonstrate that accessible solitons described by an extended Schrödinger equation with the Laplacian of fractional dimension can exist in strongly nonlocal nonlinear media. The soliton solutions of the model are constructed by two special functions, the associated Legendre polynomials and the Laguerre polynomials in the fraction-dimensional space. Our results show that these fractional accessible solitons form a soliton family which includes crescent solitons, and asymmetric single-layer and multi-layer necklace solitons.  相似文献

An algorithm is devised for deriving exact traveling wave solutions of a three-component system of nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equations by means of Exp-function method. This method was previously applied to nonlinear partial differential equations (NLPDEs) or two coupled NLPDEs, here it is applied to three coupled NLPDES. This work continues to reinforce the idea that the Exp-function method, with the help of symbolic computation, provides a powerful mathematical tool for solving nonlinear partial differential equations.  相似文献

In this work, two powerful analytical methods, called homotopy-perturbation method (HPM) and Adomian decomposition method (ADM) are introduced to obtain the exact solutions of linear and nonlinear Schrödinger equations. The main objective is to propose alternative methods of solution, which do not require small parameters and avoid linearization and physically unrealistic assumptions. The results show that these methods are very efficient and convenient and can be applied to a large class of problems. The comparison of the methods shows that although the numerical results of these methods are the same, HPM is much easier, more convenient and efficient than ADM.  相似文献

We present analytical bright multisoliton solutions to the generalized nonautonomous nonlinear Schrödinger equation with time- and space-dependent distributed coefficients in Fourier-synthesized optical lattice potential based on the similarity transformation technique. Such solutions exist in certain constraint conditions on the coefficients depicting dispersion, nonlinearity, and gain (or loss). Various shapes of bright solitons and interesting interactions between two solitons are observed, including soliton trains, collapse and revival of condensates, and two periodic M-shape solitons with collision. Phenomena of a few solitons and physical applications of interest to the field are discussed.  相似文献

In this Letter, by means of similarity transformations, we construct explicit solutions to the quintic nonlinear Schrödinger equation with potentials and nonlinearities depending both on time and on the spatial coordinates. We present the general approach and use it to study some examples and find nontrivial explicit solutions such as periodic (breathers), quasiperiodic and bright and dark soliton solutions.  相似文献

We introduce an approach that combines a similarity method with several transformations to find analytical solitary wave solutions for a generalized space- and time-variable coefficients of nonlinear Schrödinger equation with higher-order terms with consideration of varying dispersion, higher nonlinearities, gain/loss and external potential. One of these transformations is constructed in such a way that allows study of the width of localized solutions. Solitary-like wave solutions for front, bright and dark are given. The precise expressions of the soliton?s width, peak, and the trajectory of its mass center and the external potential which are symbol of dynamic behavior of these solutions, are investigated analytically. In addition, the dynamical behavior of moving, periodic, quasi-periodic of breathing, and resonant are discussed. Stability of the obtained solutions is analyzed both analytically and numerically.  相似文献

We study the effect of a nearby phase-conjugate mirror (PCM) on the gap soliton of a Kerr non-linear periodic structure. We show that phase conjugation of the gap soliton (in the sense of replication of the amplitude profile in the reverse direction) is possible under the condition of PCM reflectivity approaching unity. This is in contrast with the results for linear structures, where the wave profiles can be conjugated for arbitrary values of the PCM reflectivity. The sensitivity of the conjugation of the gap solitons to PCM reflectivity is ascribed to the fine balance of non-linearity with dispersion, necessary for their existence.  相似文献
