We construct connected, locally connected, almost regular, countable, Urysohn spaces. This answers a problem of G.X. Ritter. We show that there are 2c such non-homeomorphic spaces. We also show that there are 2c non-homeomorphic spaces which are further rigid. We discuss the group of homeomorphisms of such spaces.The following question was raised by G.X. Ritter: Does there exist a countable connected locally connected Urysohn space which is almost regular? We answer this question in the affirmative and in fact, show that not only are there as many as 2c such spaces but that there are just as many rigid spaces with the same properties. Furthermore we show that every countable Urysohn space is a subspace of such a space. We also prove that every countable group is isomorphic to the group of autohomeomorphisms of some connected locally connected almost regular Urysohn space. Examples are given of groups of order c which can be represented in this manner.  相似文献

Independently, Claytor [Ann. Math. 35 (1934), 809–835] and Thomassen [Combinatorica 24 (2004), 699–718] proved that a 2-connected, compact, locally connected metric space is homeomorphic to a subset of the sphere if and only if it does not contain K 5 or K 3;3. The “thumbtack space” consisting of a disc plus an arc attaching just at the centre of the disc shows the assumption of 2-connectedness cannot be dropped. In this work, we introduce “generalized thumbtacks” and show that a compact, locally connected metric space is homeomorphic to a subset of the sphere if and only if it does not contain K 5, K 3;3, or any generalized thumbtack, or the disjoint union of a sphere and a point.  相似文献

Summary A decomposition theorem about closed images of locally compact metric spaces is discussed. It is shown that a space is a closed image of a locally compact metric space if and only if it is a regular Fréchet space with a point-countable k-network, and each of its closed first-countable subset is locally compact.  相似文献

We study topological dynamics on unshielded planar continua with weak expanding properties at cycles for which we prove that the absence of wandering continua implies backward stability. Then we deduce from this that a polynomial with a locally connected Julia set is backward stable outside any neighborhood of its attracting and neutral cycles. For a conformal measure this easily implies that one of the following holds: 1. for -a.e. , ; 2. for -a.e. , for a critical point depending on .

In this paper, we investigate the locally uniformly non‐square point of Orlicz–Bochner sequence spaces endowed with Luxemburg norm. Analysing and combining the generating function M and properties of the real Banach space X , we get sufficient and necessary conditions of locally uniformly non‐square point, which contributes to criteria for locally uniform non‐squareness in Orlicz–Bochner sequence spaces. The results generalize the corresponding results in the classical Orlicz sequence spaces.  相似文献

Let G be a graph. For each vertex vV(G), Nv denotes the subgraph induces by the vertices adjacent to v in G. The graph G is locally k‐edge‐connected if for each vertex vV(G), Nv is k‐edge‐connected. In this paper we study the existence of nowhere‐zero 3‐flows in locally k‐edge‐connected graphs. In particular, we show that every 2‐edge‐connected, locally 3‐edge‐connected graph admits a nowhere‐zero 3‐flow. This result is best possible in the sense that there exists an infinite family of 2‐edge‐connected, locally 2‐edge‐connected graphs each of which does not have a 3‐NZF. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this note we study the dynamics of the natural evaluation action of the group of isometries G of a locally compact metric space (X,d) with one end. Using the notion of pseudo-components introduced by S. Gao and A.S. Kechris we show that X has only finitely many pseudo-components exactly one of which is not compact and G acts properly on this pseudo-component. The complement of the non-compact component is a compact subset of X and G may fail to act properly on it.  相似文献

It is shown, by asymptotic center techniques, that the set of fixed points of any uniformly k-lipschitzian mapping in a uniformly convex Banach space is a retract of the domain when k is less than a constant bigger than the constant from the paper [K. Goebel, W.A. Kirk, A fixed point theorem for transformations whose iterates have uniform Lipschitz constant, Studia Math. 47 (1973) 135-140]. Our result improves a recently result presented in [E. We prove that any metrizable non-compact space has a weaker metrizable nowhere locally compact topology. As a consequence, any metrizable non-compact space has a weaker Hausdorff connected topology.
