The Quantization of the Cantor Distribution

For a real-valued random variable whose distribution is the classical Cantor probability, the n - quantization error and the n - optimal quantization rules are calculated for every natural number n. Moreover, the connection between the rate of convergence of the logarithms of the quantization errors for n going to infinity and the Hausdorff dimension of the Cantor set is indicated.     

Cantor Diagrams: A Unifying Discussion of Self-Reference

Within the framework of category theory, Cantor diagrams are introduced as the common structure of the self-reference constructions by Cantor, Russell, Richard, Gödel, Péter, Turing, Kleene, Tarski, according to the so-called Cantor diagonal method. Such diagrams consist not only of diagonal arrows but also of idempotent, identity and shift arrows. Cantor theorem states that no Cantor diagram is commutative. From this theorem, all the constructions above can be systematically retrieved. We do this by grouping them into two main classes: the class based on Cantor diagrams with a numerical shift function and the class based on Cantor diagrams with a Boolean shift function.

本文研究了菱形为基本集所构成的的广义Cantor集的Hausdorff测度问题.利用菱形几何结构的相关证明方法,获得了此类广义Cantor集的Hausdorff测度准确值,推广了曾超益和许绍元等人的已有结果.

丰德军等人在他们的相关的论文中介绍了齐次均匀康托集和偏齐次均匀康托集,在本文中我们构造介于两者之间的一类齐次Moran集,给出其豪斯多夫维数的精确计算公式,并讨论维数关于参数的不连续性.

广义Cantor集的自相似性

本文考虑一类广义Cantor集Γ_(β,の)={∞∑n=1dnβn:dn∈Dn,n≥1}的自相似性,其中0β1且对任意的n≥1,D_n为整数集Z的非空有限子集;并且给出Γ_(β,の)为齐次生成自相似集的充分必要条件.作为应用,本文考虑一类广义Cantor集交的自相似性,部分推广了Li,Yao和Zhang(2011)关于自相似性的结果.     

DOUBLING MEASURES ON GENERALIZED CANTOR SETS

We study the doubling property of binomial measures on generalized ternary Cantor subsets of [0, 1]. We find some new phenomena. There are three different cases. In the first case, we obtain an equivalent condition for the measure to be doubling. In the other cases, we show that the condition is not necessary. Then facts and partial results are discussed.     

Stable intersection of affine Cantor sets defined by two expanding maps

It is shown that in the context of affine Cantor sets with two increasing maps, the arithmetic sum of both of its elements is a Cantor set otherwise, it is a closure of countable union of nontrivial intervals. Also, a new family of pairs of affine Cantor sets is introduced such that each element of it has stable intersection. At the end, pairs of affine Cantor sets are characterized such that the sum of elements of each pair is a closed interval.     

On the boundary sequence of an automatic sequence

In this paper, we prove a conjecture of Chen and Wen that the boundary sequence of an automatic sequence is also automatic. In particular, we study the boundary sequences of the generalized Cantor sequences, and give a complete characterization of the periodic boundary sequences. As an application, for a class of automatic sequences, we prove that their abelian complexities are also automatic.     

Unexpected distribution phenomenon resulting from Cantor series expansions

We explore in depth the number theoretic and statistical properties of certain sets of numbers arising from their Cantor series expansions. As a direct consequence of our main theorem we deduce numerous new results as well as strengthen the known ones.     

Attractors of generalized IFSs that are not attractors of IFSs

Mihail and Miculescu introduced the notion of a generalized iterated function system (GIFS in short), and proved that every GIFS generates an attractor. (In our previous paper we gave this notion a more general setting.) In this paper we show that for any m≥2$m\ge 2$, there exists a Cantor subset of the plane which is an attractor of some GIFS of order m  , but is not an attractor of a GIFS of order m−1$m-1$. In particular, this result shows that there is a subset of the plane which is an attractor of some GIFS, but is not an attractor of an IFS. We also give an example of a Cantor set which is not an attractor of a GIFS.     

Hausdorff dimension of perturbed Cantor sets without some boundedness condition

A perturbed Cantor set (without the uniform boundedness condition away from zero of contraction ratios) whose upper Cantor dimension and lower Cantor dimension coincide has its Hausdorff dimension of the same value of Cantor dimensions. We will show this using an energy theory instead of Frostman's density lemma which was used for the case of the perturbed Cantor set with the uniform boundedness condition. At the end, we will give a nontrivial example of such a perturbed Cantor set. This revised version was published online in August 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.

Dirichlet forms and associated heat kernels on the Cantor set induced by random walks on trees

Transient random walk on a tree induces a Dirichlet form on its Martin boundary, which is the Cantor set. The procedure of the inducement is analogous to that of the Douglas integral on S¹ associated with the Brownian motion on the unit disk. In this paper, those Dirichlet forms on the Cantor set induced by random walks on trees are investigated. Explicit expressions of the hitting distribution (harmonic measure) ν and the induced Dirichlet form on the Cantor set are given in terms of the effective resistances. An intrinsic metric on the Cantor set associated with the random walk is constructed. Under the volume doubling property of ν with respect to the intrinsic metric, asymptotic behaviors of the heat kernel, the jump kernel and moments of displacements of the process associated with the induced Dirichlet form are obtained. Furthermore, relation to the noncommutative Riemannian geometry is discussed.

Minimal Cantor Systems and Unimodal Maps

We consider the restriction of unimodal maps f to the omega-limit set y ( c ) of the critical point for certain cases where y ( c ) is a Minimal Cantor set. We investigate the relation of these minimal systems to enumeration scales (generalized adding machines), to Vershik adic transformations on ordered Bratelli diagrams and to substitution shifts. Sufficient conditions are given for ( y ( c ), f ) to be uniquely ergodic.

The exponentiated generalized inverse Gaussian distribution

The modeling and analysis of lifetime data is an important aspect of statistical work in a wide variety of scientific and technological fields. Good (1953) introduced a probability distribution which is commonly used in the analysis of lifetime data. For the first time, based on this distribution, we propose the so-called exponentiated generalized inverse Gaussian distribution, which extends the exponentiated standard gamma distribution (Nadarajah and Kotz, 2006). Various structural properties of the new distribution are derived, including expansions for its moments, moment generating function, moments of the order statistics, and so forth. We discuss maximum likelihood estimation of the model parameters. The usefulness of the new model is illustrated by means of a real data set.

Zeros of eigenfunctions of a class of generalized second order differential operators on the Cantor set
