In lifetime data analysis, naturally recorded observations are length-biased data if the probability to select an item is proportional to its length. Based on i.i.d. observations of the true distribution, empirical likelihood (EL) procedure is proposed for the inference on mean residual life (MRL) of naturally recorded item. The limit distribution of the EL based log-likelihood ratio is proved to be the chi-square distribution. Under right censorship, since the EL based log-likelihood ratio leads to a scaled chi-square distribution and estimating the scale parameter leads to lower coverage of confidence interval, we propose an algorithm to calculate the likelihood ratio (LR) directly. The corresponding log-likelihood ratio converges to the standard chi-square distribution and the corresponding confidence interval has a better coverage. Simulation studies are used to support the theoretical results.  相似文献

Accelerated failure time (AFT) models are useful regression tools for studying the association between a survival time and covariates. Semiparametric inference procedures have been proposed in an extensive literature. Among these, use of an estimating equation which is monotone in the regression parameter and has some excellent properties was proposed by Fygenson and Ritov (1994). However, there is a serious under-coverage problem for small sample sizes. In this paper, we derive the limiting distribution of the empirical log-likelihood ratio for the regression parameter on the basis of the monotone estimating equations. Furthermore, the empirical likelihood (EL) confidence intervals/regions for the regression parameter are obtained. We conduct a simulation study in order to compare the proposed EL method with the normal approximation method. The simulation results suggest that the empirical likelihood based method outperforms the normal approximation based method in terms of coverage probability. Thus, the proposed EL method overcomes the under-coverage problem of the normal approximation method.  相似文献

In this paper we propose a smoothed jackknife empirical likelihood method to construct confidence intervals for the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. By applying the standard empirical likelihood method for a mean to the jackknife sample, the empirical likelihood ratio statistic can be calculated by simply solving a single equation. Therefore, this procedure is easy to implement. Wilks’ theorem for the empirical likelihood ratio statistic is proved and a simulation study is conducted to compare the performance of the proposed method with other methods.  相似文献

The generalized Pareto distribution (GPD) is a two-parameter family of distributions which can be used to model exceedances over a threshold. We compare the empirical coverage of some standard bootstrap and likelihood-based confidence intervals for the parameters and upper p-quantiles of the GPD. Simulation results indicate that none of the bootstrap methods give satisfactory intervals for small sample sizes. By applying a general method of D. N. Lawley, correction factors for likelihood ratio statistics of parameters and quantiles of the GPD have been calculated. Simulations show that for small sample sizes accuracy of confidence intervals can be improved by incorporating the computed correction factors to the likelihood-based confidence intervals. While the modified likelihood method has better empirical coverage probability, the mean length of produced intervals are not longer than corresponding bootstrap confidence intervals. This article also investigates the performance of some bootstrap methods for estimation of accuracy measures of maximum likelihood estimators of parameters and quantiles of the GPD.  相似文献

In this paper, we employ the method of empirical likelihood to construct confidence intervals for a conditional quantile in the presence and absence of auxiliary information, respectively, for the left-truncation model. It is proved that the empirical likelihood ratio admits a limiting chi-square distribution with one degree of freedom when the lifetime observations with multivariate covariates form a stationary α-mixing sequence. For the problem of testing a hypothesis on the conditional quantile, it is shown that the asymptotic power of the test statistic based on the empirical likelihood ratio with the auxiliary information is larger than that of the one based on the standard empirical likelihood ratio. The finite sample performance of the empirical likelihood confidence intervals in the presence and absence of auxiliary information is investigated through simulations.  相似文献

The empirical likelihood method is especially useful for constructing confidence intervals or regions of the parameter of interest. This method has been extensively applied to linear regression and generalized linear regression models. In this paper, the empirical likelihood method for single-index regression models is studied. An estimated empirical log-likelihood approach to construct the confidence region of the regression parameter is developed. An adjusted empirical log-likelihood ratio is proved to be asymptotically standard chi-square. A simulation study indicates that compared with a normal approximation-based approach, the proposed method described herein works better in terms of coverage probabilities and areas (lengths) of confidence regions (intervals).  相似文献

The purpose of this article is to use an empirical likelihood method to study the construction of confidence intervals and regions for the parameters of interest in linear regression models with missing response data. A class of empirical likelihood ratios for the parameters of interest are defined such that any of our class of ratios is asymptotically chi-squared. Our approach is to directly calibrate the empirical log-likelihood ratio, and does not need multiplication by an adjustment factor for the original ratio. Also, a class of estimators for the parameters of interest is constructed, and the asymptotic distributions of the proposed estimators are obtained. Our results can be used directly to construct confidence intervals and regions for the parameters of interest. A simulation study indicates that the proposed methods are comparable in terms of coverage probabilities and average lengths/areas of confidence intervals/regions. An example of a real data set is used for illustrating our methods.  相似文献

考虑响应变量随机缺失而协变量带有误差的线性模型,借助于核实数据和借补方法,构造了回归系数的两种经验似然比,证明了所提出的估计的经验对数似然比渐近于一个自由度为1的独立χ2变量的加权和;而经调整后所得的调整经验对数似然比渐近于自由度为p的χ2分布,该结果可以用来构造未知参数的置信域.此外,我们也构造了响应均值的调整经验对数似然比统计量,并证明了所提出的统计量渐近于x2分布,可用此结果构造响应均值的置信域.通过模拟研究比较了置信域的精度及其平均区间长度.  相似文献

We propose a new and simple estimating equation for the parameters in median regression models with designed censoring variables, and then apply the empirical log likelihood ratio statistic to construct confidence region for the parameters. The empirical log likelihood ratio statistic is shown to have a standard chi-square distribution, which makes this method easy to implement. At the same time, another empirical log likelihood ratio statistic is proposed based on an existing estimating equation and the limiting distribution of the empirical likelihood ratio statistic is shown to be a sum of weighted chi-square distributions. We compare the performance of the empirical likelihood confidence region based on the new estimating equation, with that based on the existing estimating equation and a normal approximation method by simulation studies.  相似文献

In this paper the limiting distribution of the least square estimate for the autoregressive coefficient of a nearly unit root model with GARCH errors is derived. Since the limiting distribution depends on the unknown variance of the errors, an empirical likelihood ratio statistic is proposed from which confidence intervals can be constructed for the nearly unit root model without knowing the variance. To gain an intuitive sense for the empirical likelihood ratio, a small simulation for the asymptotic distribution is given.  相似文献

In this article we study the empirical likelihood inference for MA(q) model. We propose the moment restrictions, by which we get the empirical likelihood estimator of the model parameter, and we also propose an empirical log-likelihood ratio based on this estimator. The authors study the empirical likelihood method for partially linear errors-in-variablesmodel with covariate data missing at random. Empirical likelihood ratios for the regression coefficients and the baseline function are investigated, and the corresponding empirical log-likelihood ratios are proved to be asymptotically standard chi-squared, which can be used to construct confidence regions. The finite sample behavior of the proposed methods is evaluated by a simulation study which indicates that the proposed methods are comparable in terms of coverage probabilities and average length of confidence intervals. An alternative to the accelerated failure time model is to regress the median of the failure time on the covariates. In the recent years, censored median regression models have been shown to be useful for analyzing a variety of censored survival data with the robustness property. Based on missing information principle, a semiparametric inference procedure for regression parameter has been developed when censoring variable depends on continuous covariate. In order to improve the low coverage accuracy of such procedure, we apply an empirical likelihood ratio method (EL) to the model and derive the limiting distributions of the estimated and adjusted empirical likelihood ratios for the vector of regression parameter. Two kinds of EL confidence regions for the unknown vector of regression parameters are obtained accordingly. We conduct an extensive simulation study to compare the performance of the proposed methods with that normal approximation based method. The simulation results suggest that the EL methods outperform the normal approximation based method in terms of coverage probability. Finally, we make some discussions about our methods.  相似文献

??Auxiliary population information is often available in finite population inference problems, and the empirical likelihood (EL) approach has been demonstrated to be flexible and useful for such problems. The present paper concerns EL when interest centers on inference for the mean of the baseline distribution under two-sample density ratio models. Although dual EL is a convenient technical tool since it has the same maximum point and maximum likelihood as DRM-based EL, it can not combine such auxiliary information into the likelihood conveniently and may have loss of efficiency. By contrast, the classical EL approach of Qin and Lawless\ucite{21} does not have this problem and incorporate seamlessly auxiliary information. Based on the EL using auxiliary information and the dual EL methods, we construct both point and interval estimations and make a careful comparison. Though the point estimation efficiency gain obtained by the former is not noticeable, we find that they may have different performances in interval estimation. In terms of coverage accuracy, the two intervals are comparable for not or moderate skewed populations, and the EL interval using auxiliary information can be much superior for severely skewed populations.  相似文献
