Given a random sample from a continuous variable, it is observed that the copula linking any pair of order statistics is independent of the parent distribution. To compare the degree of association between two such pairs of ordered random variables, a notion of relative monotone regression dependence (or stochastic increasingness) is considered. Using this concept, it is proved that for i<j, the dependence of the jth order statistic on the ith order statistic decreases as i and j draw apart. This extends earlier results of Tukey (Ann. Math. Statist. 29 (1958) 588) and Kim and David (J. Statist. Plann. Inference 24 (1990) 363). The effect of the sample size on this type of dependence is also investigated, and an explicit expression is given for the population value of Kendall's coefficient of concordance between two arbitrary order statistics of a random sample.  相似文献

In this paper we present a novel four parameter continuous univariate distribution that can be motivated from at least two approaches. The first one views the distribution as a generalization of the uniform one that allows for uncertainty specification at the vicinity of its bounds (gradually) represented via two Pareto tails. The second one is that of an asymmetric heavy-tailed, peaked distribution with an unbounded domain with the property that the location of the mode is not uniquely determined but rather is described by a uniform range. Properties of the distribution are described and a maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) procedure for the mode location and the Pareto tails parameters is presented. The procedure is illustrated by means of an i.i.d. sample of standardized log-differences of quarterly monthly US certificate deposit interest rates for the period 1964–2004. The sample is constructed utilizing the Auto-Regressive Conditional Heteroscedastic (ARCH) time series model devised by the Nobel Laureate R.F. Engle (1982).  相似文献

Summary Given a sequence of ϕ-mixing random variables not necessarily stationary, a Chernoff-Savage theorem for two-sample linear rank statistics is proved using the Pyke-Shorack [5] approach based on weak convergence properties of empirical processes in an extended metric. This result is a generalization of Fears and Mehra [4] in that the stationarity is not required and that the condition imposed on the mixing numbers is substantially relaxed. A similar result is shown to hold for strong mixing sequences under slightly stronger conditions on the mixing numbers. A new estimation procedure for a partial linear additive model with censored responses is proposed. To this aim, ideas of Lewbel and Linton [A. Lewbel, O. Linton, Nonparametric censored and truncated regression, Econometrica 70 (2002) 765-779] on censored model regression are combined with those of Kim et al. [W. Kim, O. Linton, N.W. Hengartner, A computationally efficient estimator for additive nonparametric regression with bootstrap confidence intervals, Journal of Computational and Graphical Statistics, 8 (1999) 278-297] on marginal integration and those on average derivatives. This allows for dimension reduction, interpretability and — depending on the context — for weights yielding computationally attractive estimates. Asymptotic behavior is provided for all proposed estimators.  相似文献

We show that if a process can be obtained by filtering an autoregressive process, then the asymptotic distribution of sample autocovariances of the former is the same as the asymptotic distribution of linear combinations of sample autocovariances of the latter. This result is used to show that for small lags the sample autocovariances of the filtered process have the same asymptotic distribution as estimators utilizing more information (observations on the associated autoregression process and knowledge of the parameters of the filter). In particular, for a Gaussian ARMA process the first few sample autocovariances are jointly asymptotically efficient.  相似文献

Multivariate dependence of spacings of generalized order statistics is studied. It is shown that spacings of generalized order statistics from DFR (IFR) distributions have the CIS (CDS) property. By restricting the choice of the model parameters and strengthening the assumptions on the underlying distribution, stronger dependence relations are established. For instance, if the model parameters are decreasingly ordered and the underlying distribution has a log-convex decreasing (log-concave) hazard rate, then the spacings satisfy the MTP2 (S- MRR2) property. Some consequences of the results are given. In particular, conditions for non-negativity of the best linear unbiased estimator of the scale parameter in a location-scale family are obtained. By applying a result for dual generalized order statistics, we show that in the particular situation of usual order statistics the assumptions can be weakened.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the testing problem of generalized multivariate linear hypothesis for the mean in the growth curve model(GMANOVA). Our interest is the case in which the number of the observed points p is relatively large compared to the sample size N. Asymptotic expansions of the non-null distributions of the likelihood ratio criterion, Lawley-Hotelling’s trace criterion and Bartlett-Nanda-Pillai’s trace criterion are derived under the asymptotic framework that N and p go to infinity together, while p/Nc∈(0,1). It also can be confirmed that Rothenberg’s condition on the magnitude of the asymptotic powers of the three tests is valid when p is relatively large, theoretically and numerically.  相似文献

In this short note, we study the impact of a dependence structure of X and Y on the tail behavior of XY. We quantify the impact as the limit, as x, of the quotient of Pr(XY>x) and Pr(XY>x), where X and Y are independent random variables identically distributed as X and Y, respectively. We describe the limit distribution of V- and U-statistics in a new fashion. In the case of V-statistics the limit variable is a multiple stochastic integral with respect to an abstract Brownian bridge GQ. This extends the pioneer work of Filippova (1961) [8]. In the case of U-statistics we obtain a linear combination of GQ-integrals with coefficients stemming from Hermite Polynomials. This is an alternative representation of the limit distribution as given by Dynkin and Mandelbaum (1983) [7] or Rubin and Vitale (1980) [13]. We investigate Baker’s bivariate distributions with fixed marginals which are based on order statistics, and find conditions under which the correlation converges to the maximum for Fréchet-Hoeffding upper bound as the sample size tends to infinity. The innovations algorithm can be used to obtain parameter estimates for periodically stationary time series models. In this paper we compute the asymptotic distribution for these estimates in the case where the underlying noise sequence has infinite fourth moment but finite second moment. In this case, the sample covariances on which the innovations algorithm are based are known to be asymptotically stable. The asymptotic results developed here are useful to determine which model parameters are significant. In the process, we also compute the asymptotic distributions of least squares estimates of parameters in an autoregressive model.  相似文献

Summary The distribution-free test based on semi-aligned rankings for no treatment effects in a two-way layout, with unequal number of replications in each cell is considered. The asymptotic χ-square distribution of the test statistic under the null hypothesis is derived. The Pitman asymptotic relative efficiency of the test (i) based on semi-aligned rankings with respect to the test (ii) based on within-block rankings, is shown to be larger than one as the number of blocks tends to infinity. Also the asymptotic properties of linear rank statistics (i) and (ii) are investigated and the asymptotic relative efficiency of the test (i) with respect to the test (ii) is again shown to be larger than one.  相似文献

Double-sampling designs are commonly used in real applications when it is infeasible to collect exact measurements on all variables of interest. Two samples, a primary sample on proxy measures and a validation subsample on exact measures, are available in these designs. We assume that the validation sample is drawn from the primary sample by the Bernoulli sampling with equal selection probability. An empirical likelihood based approach is proposed to estimate the parameters of interest. By allowing the number of constraints to grow as the sample size goes to infinity, the resulting maximum empirical likelihood estimator is asymptotically normal and its limiting variance-covariance matrix reaches the semiparametric efficiency bound. Moreover, the Wilks-type result of convergence to chi-squared distribution for the empirical likelihood ratio based test is established. Some simulation studies are carried out to assess the finite sample performances of the new approach.  相似文献

We prove a multivariate CLT for skewness and kurtosis of the wavelets coefficients of a stationary field on the torus. The results are in the framework of the fixed-domain asymptotics, i.e. we refer to observations of a single field which is sampled at higher and higher frequencies. We consider also studentized statistics for the case of an unknown correlation structure. The results are motivated by the analysis of high-frequency financial data or cosmological data sets, with a particular interest towards testing for Gaussianity and isotropy.  相似文献

We develop a test of equality between two dependence structures estimated through empirical copulas. We provide inference for independent or paired samples. The multiplier central limit theorem is used for calculating p-values of the Cramér-von Mises test statistic. Finite sample properties are assessed with Monte Carlo experiments. In this paper, the functional-coefficient partially linear regression (FCPLR) model is proposed by combining nonparametric and functional-coefficient regression (FCR) model. It includes the FCR model and the nonparametric regression (NPR) model as its special cases. It is also a generalization of the partially linear regression (PLR) model obtained by replacing the parameters in the PLR model with some functions of the covariates. The local linear technique and the integrated method are employed to give initial estimators of all functions in the FCPLR model. These initial estimators are asymptotically normal. The initial estimator of the constant part function shares the same bias as the local linear estimator of this function in the univariate nonparametric model, but the variance of the former is bigger than that of the latter. Similarly, initial estimators of every coefficient function share the same bias as the local linear estimates in the univariate FCR model, but the variance of the former is bigger than that of the latter. To decrease the variance of the initial estimates, a one-step back-fitting technique is used to obtain the improved estimators of all functions. The improved estimator of the constant part function has the same asymptotic normality property as the local linear nonparametric regression for univariate data. The improved estimators of the coefficient functions have the same asymptotic normality properties as the local linear estimates in FCR model. The bandwidths and the smoothing variables are selected by a data-driven method. Both simulated and real data examples related to nonlinear time series modeling are used to illustrate the applications of the FCPLR model.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider random variables counting numbers of observations that fall into regions determined by extreme order statistics and Borel sets. We study multivariate asymptotic behavior of these random variables and express their joint limiting law in terms of independent multinomial and negative multinomial laws. We use a recent characterization of the d-dimensional Archimedean copulas as the survival copulas of d-dimensional simplex distributions (McNeil and Nešlehová (2009) [1]) to construct new Archimedean copula families, and to examine the relationship between their dependence properties and the radial parts of the corresponding simplex distributions. In particular, a new formula for Kendall’s tau is derived and a new dependence ordering for non-negative random variables is introduced which generalises the Laplace transform order. We then generalise the Archimedean copulas to obtain Liouville copulas, which are the survival copulas of Liouville distributions and which are non-exchangeable in general. We derive a formula for Kendall’s tau of Liouville copulas in terms of the radial parts of the corresponding Liouville distributions.  相似文献

A statistic is proposed for testing the equality of the mean vectors in a one-way multivariate analysis of variance. The asymptotic null distribution of this statistic, as both the sample size and the number of variables go to infinity, is shown to be normal. Thus, this test can be used when the number of variables is not small relative to the sample size. In particular, it can be used when the number of variables exceeds the degrees of freedom for error, a situation in which standard MANOVA tests are invalid. A related statistic, also having an asymptotic normal distribution, is developed for tests concerning the dimensionality of the hyperplane formed by the population mean vectors. The finite sample size performances of the normal approximations are evaluated in a simulation study.  相似文献
