Three new poly(p‐phenylenevinylene) derivatives—PO, POD, and POP—with oxadiazole and pyridine rings along the main chain were synthesized via Heck coupling. The polymers were amorphous and dissolved readily in common organic solvents. They showed relatively low glass‐transition temperatures (up to 42 °C) and satisfactory thermal stability. Solutions of the polymers emitted blue‐greenish light with photoluminescence (PL) emission maxima around 460 nm and PL quantum yields of 0.28–0.49. Thin films of the polymers displayed PL emission maxima at 461–521 nm, and their tendency to form aggregates was significantly influenced by the chemical structure. Light‐emitting diodes with polymers PO and POP, with an indium tin oxide/poly(ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT)/polymer/Ca configuration, emitted yellow and green light, respectively, and this could be attributed to excimer emission. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two new poly(p‐phenylene vinylene) derivatives OX1‐PPV and OX2‐PPV bearing two 1,3,4‐oxadiazole rings per repeat unit and a fully conjugated backbone with solubilizing dodecyloxy side groups were synthesized and investigated. The amorphous conjugated polymers had glass‐transition temperature values of 60–75 °C and emitted intense blue or greenish‐blue light in solution with photoluminescence (PL) emission maxima at 379–492 nm and PL quantum yields of 0.41–0.52. In the solid state they emitted yellowish‐green light with PL emission maxima at 533–555 nm. Cyclic voltammetry showed that both conjugated polymers had reversible reduction and irreversible oxidation, making them n‐type materials. The electron affinity of OX2‐PPV was estimated as 2.85 eV whereas that of OX1‐PPV was 2.75 eV. Yellow electroluminescence (EL) was achieved from single‐layer light‐emitting diodes of OX2‐PPV with an EL emission maximum at 555 nm and a brightness of 70 cd/m2. Polymer OX2‐PPV, which was functionalized with 2,6‐bis(1,3,4‐oxadiazole‐2‐yl)pyridine, demonstrated sensitivity to various metal ions as a fluorescence‐mode chemosensor. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two novel poly(amine‐hydrazide)s were prepared from the polycondensation reactions of the dicarboxylic acid, 9‐[N,N‐di(4‐carboxyphenyl)amino]anthracene ( 1 ), with terephthalic dihydrazide ( TPH ) and isophthalic dihydrazide ( IPH ) via the Yamazaki phosphorylation reaction, respectively. The poly(amine‐hydrazide)s were readily soluble in many common organic solvents and could be solution cast into transparent films. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) indicated that these hydrazide polymers had glass‐transition temperatures (Tg) in the range of 182–230 °C and could be thermally cyclodehydrated into the corresponding oxadiazole polymers in the range of 300–400 °C. The resulting poly(amine‐1,3,4‐oxadiazole)s had useful levels of thermal stability associated with high Tg (263–318 °C), 10% weight‐loss temperatures in excess of 500 °C, and char yield at 800 °C in nitrogen higher than 55%. These organo‐soluble anthrylamine‐based poly(amine‐hydrazide)s and poly (amine‐1,3,4‐oxadiazole)s exhibited maximum UV‐vis absorption at 346–349 and 379–388 nm in N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidone (NMP) solution, respectively. Their photoluminescence spectra in NMP solution showed maximum bands around 490–497 nm in the green region. The poly(amine‐hydrazide) I ‐ IPH showed a green photoluminescence at 490 nm with PL quantum yield of 29.9% and 17.0% in NMP solution and film state, respectively. The anthrylamine‐based poly(amine‐1,3,4‐oxadiazole)s revealed a electrochromic characteristics with changing color from the pale yellow neutral form to the red reduced form when scanning potentials negatively from 0.00 to ?2.20 V. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel conjugated poly[(fluorene‐2,7‐vinylene)‐alt‐(1,4‐phenylenevinylene)] derivative 2 with quaternizable tertiary amino groups was synthesized by Heck coupling of a substituted 2,7‐dibromofluorene and 1,4‐dialkoxy‐2,5‐divinylbenzene. The corresponding quaternary ammonium cationic polyelectrolyte 3 was obtained by the treatment of 2 with bromoethane. Both polymers were soluble in common organic solvents, like tetrahydrofuran, chloroform, and dichloromethane. Polymer 3 showed a limited solubility in alcohols and was insoluble in water. Photophysical and electrochemical properties of the resulting polymers were fully investigated. An intensive green photoluminescence (PL) with maxima at 550 and 545 nm was observed from thin films of 2 and 3 polymers, respectively, red‐shifted compared with the PL emission spectra measured in the solution. The electrochemical band gaps were 2.38–2.45 eV. Single‐layer and double‐layer (with poly[3,4‐(ethylenedioxy)thiophene]/poly (styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS)) light‐emitting devices (LEDs) with ITO and Al electrodes were prepared and studied. They emitted a green light and their electroluminescence (EL) spectra were similar to those of PL thin films. The external EL efficiency was determined to be 0.43 and 0.32% for ITO/PEDOT:PSS/ 2 /Al and ITO/PEDOT:PSS/ 3 /Al LEDs, respectively. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 2,6‐bis(4‐Distyrylpyridine) ( 1 ) was synthesized by the condensation of 2,6‐dimethylpyridine with 4‐bromobenzaldehyde. Two new series of soluble random or alternating polyfluorenes ( PF‐Py ) and poly‐p‐phenylenes ( PP‐Py ) with various compositions were prepared by Suzuki coupling utilizing 1 as a comonomer. These polymers showed optical band gaps of 3.00–3.07 eV and photoluminescence (PL) quantum yields in solution of 0.37–0.91 for PF‐Py and 0.29–0.38 for PP‐Py . Polymers PF‐Py emitted blue light with PL maximum at 410–424 nm in solution and 406–428 nm in thin films that was red shifted with increasing distyrylpyridine content. Polymers PP‐Py behaved as blue emitters both in solution and in solid state, with PL maximum at 416–436 nm. The optical properties of these polymers could be tuned by the reversible protonation–deprotonation process of the pyridine ring. The emitted color of the polymers in solution and thin film could be changed continuously between blue and green (PL maximum up to about 520 nm) by exposing the polymers to the acid or base environment. Thin films of PF‐Py displayed excellent color stability with a small red shift of 10 nm but without additional emission band in the long wave region of the spectrum, even after being annealed at high temperature for a long time. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two novel poly(p‐phenylene vinylene) polymers, which carried side substituents with cyano groups or 1,3,4‐oxadiazole, were synthesized by Heck coupling. They consisted of alternating conjugated segments and nonconjugated aliphatic spacers. The polymers had moderate molecular weights, were amorphous, and dissolved readily in tetrahydrofuran and halogenated organic solvents. They were stable up to approximately 340 °C in N2 and 290 °C in air, and the anaerobic char yield was around 60% at 800 °C. The polymer with cyano side groups emitted blue light in solutions and thin films with identical photoluminescence (PL) maximum at 450 nm; this supported the idea that chain interactions were hindered even in the solid state. The PL maximum of this polymer in thin films was blueshifted upon annealing at 120 °C, indicating a thermochromic effect as a result of conformational changes in the polymer backbone. The polymer containing side substituents with oxadiazole rings emitted blue light in solutions with a PL maximum at 474 nm and blue‐greenish light in thin films with a PL maximum at 511 nm. The PL quantum yields of the polymers in tetrahydrofuran were 0.13–0.24. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 42: 1768–1778, 2004  相似文献

1,3,4‐oxadiazole moieties were laterally linked to the phenyl rings via a short ? OCH2 spacer and a series of novel poly(p‐phenylenevinylene) derivatives have been successfully synthesized through Horner–Witting–Emmons coupling reaction. The structures and properties of the monomers and the resulting conjugated polymers were characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscope, Fourier transform infrared, elemental analysis, gel permeation chromatography, thermogravimetric analysis, UV–vis absorption (UV) spectroscopy, photoluminescence spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry. The UV spectra at solution state was similar to what's observed at film state while the PL spectra at film state had a red shift from 19 to 28 nm compared with the results at solution state, which implied that the unique bulky jacketed structure containing oxadiazole unit of these copolymers could effectively suppress π‐stacking/aggregation. LUMO levels of these polymers varied from ?3.44 to ?3.63 eV with increasing content of oxadiazole units, which facilitated electron injection. PLEDs with the configuration of ITO/PEDOT/Polymer/TPBI (15 nm)/LiF (1 nm)/Al (100 nm) were fabricated, which emit a yellowish green light around 540 and 570 nm with a maximum brightness of 1074.7 cd/m2 and luminous efficiency of 0.108 cd/A. The introduction of the unique bulky OXD unit into PPVs at a low molar content largely improved the electroluminescence properties of PPV. © Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The steady‐state and time‐resolved photoluminescence (PL), electrochemical behavior, and electroluminescence (EL) of didodecyloxy poly(p‐phenylenevinylene)‐based polymers that contained along the backbone structure 1,3,5‐triphenylbenzene (PC) or 2,4,6‐triphenylpyridine (PN) were studied. An intensive green PL broad‐band emission with maxima at 516 and 527 nm was observed from thin films of PC and PN polymers, respectively, redshifted in comparison with the PL emission spectra measured in tetrahydrofuran solutions. The PL decay dynamics revealed the existence of more than one excited species, and the decay curves were best described by three‐term exponential functions with a dominant lifetime of about 1 ns. The results of time‐resolved PL and steady‐state PL studies indicated excimer or aggregate formation. Both polymers oxidized irreversibly. A quasireversible reduction was observed in the PN polymer, whereas the PC polymer reduced irreversibly. For PC, slightly higher values of the ionization potential (EIP) and electron affinity (EA) were found (EIP = 5.52 eV, EA = 2.85 eV) than those for PN (EIP = 5.37 eV, EA = 2.77 eV). Light‐emitting devices with indium tin oxide hole‐injecting and aluminum electron‐injecting electrodes were prepared and studied. They emitted green light, and their EL spectra were similar to those of PL thin films. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part B: Polym Phys 44: 524–533, 2006  相似文献

A new hyperbranched ( P1 ) and linear copolyfluorene ( P2 ) were prepared from 2,4,7‐trifunctional (branching) and 2,7‐bifunctional fluorene monomer, respectively, by the Wittig reaction, followed with end‐capping by aromatic oxadiazole groups, to study the effect of hyperbranch structure. The weight‐average molecular weights (Mw) of P1 and P2 , determined by gel permeation chromatography using polystyrene as standard, were 33,000 and 25,700, respectively. The polymers were readily soluble in common organic solvents and exhibited good thermal stability (Td > 400 °C). Optical properties, both in solution and film state, were investigated using absorption and photoluminescence (PL) spectra. In film state, the absorption and PL spectra peaked at 401–425 nm and 480–495 nm, respectively. The P1 showed energy funnel effect and enhanced fluorescence efficiency owing to hyperbranched structure and terminal oxadiazole groups. The HOMO and LUMO levels of P1 ( P2) , estimated from cyclic voltammograms, are ?5.34 (?5.25) eV and ?2.94 (?2.94) eV, respectively. Two‐layer polymer light‐emitting diodes devices (ITO/PEDOT/ P1 /Ca/Al) exhibited maximal luminance and luminous efficiency of 3630 cd/m2 and 0.78 cd/A, respectively, which are superior to its linear counterpart P2 (598 cd/m2, 0.11 cd/A). © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We describe the preparation, characterization, and luminescence of four novel electrochromic aromatic poly(amine hydrazide)s containing main‐chain triphenylamine units with or without a para‐substituted N,N‐diphenylamino group on the pendent phenyl ring. These polymers were prepared from either 4,4′‐dicarboxy‐4″‐N,N‐diphenylaminotriphenylamine or 4,4′‐dicarboxytriphenylamine and the respective aromatic dihydrazide monomers via a direct phosphorylation polycondensation reaction. All the poly(amine hydrazide)s were amorphous and readily soluble in many common organic solvents and could be solution‐cast into transparent and flexible films with good mechanical properties. These poly(amine hydrazide)s exhibited strong ultraviolet–visible absorption bands at 346–348 nm in N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidone (NMP) solutions. Their photoluminescence spectra in NMP solutions or as cast films showed maximum bands around 508–544 and 448–487 nm in the green and blue region for the two series of polymers. The hole‐transporting and electrochromic properties were examined by electrochemical and spectroelectrochemical methods. All obtained poly(amine hydrazide)s and poly(amine‐1,3,4‐oxadiazole)s exhibited two reversible oxidation redox couples at 0.8 and 1.24 V vs. Ag/AgCl in acetonitrile solution and revealed excellent stability of electrochromic characteristics, changing color from original pale yellow to green and then to blue at electrode potentials of 0.87 and 1.24 V, respectively. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. New polyethers ( P2 , P4 ) with isolated emitting distyrylbenzene derivatives and pendant aromatic 1,3,4‐oxadiazole chromophores have been prepared by the Horner–Wadsworth–Emmons olefination reaction. Polyethers P1 and P3 without oxadiazole groups have also been synthesized for comparison. The reduced viscosities were about 0.20–0.33 dL/g, and the solubility in organic solvents increased with a number of side methoxy or ethoxy substituents in the distyrylbenzene section. Absorption spectra showed two peaks at 371–388 and 304 nm that corresponded to the π‐π* transition of the conjugated distyrylbenzene derivatives and aromatic oxadiazoles, respectively. The band gaps were at 2.76–2.85 eV, which were calculated from onset absorption in the film state. The photoluminescence (PL) maxima were at 459–469 nm, indicating that they are blue‐emitting materials, and the relative PL quantum efficiencies were 0.62–0.77 and 0.23–0.40 in solution and the film state, respectively. Cyclic voltammetric investigations demonstrated that oxadiazole moieties decrease the barrier of electron injection but also retard hole injection. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Polyhydrazides and poly(amide‐hydrazide)s were prepared from two ether‐sulfone‐dicarboxylic acids, 4,4′‐[sulfonylbis(1,4‐phenylene)dioxy]dibenzoic acid and 4,4′‐[sulfonylbis(2,6‐dimethyl‐1,4‐phenylene)dioxy]dibenzoic acid, or their diacyl chlorides with terephthalic dihydrazide, isophthalic dihydrazide, and p‐aminobenzhydrazide via a phosphorylation reaction or a low‐temperature solution polycondensation. All the hydrazide polymers were found to be amorphous according to X‐ray diffraction analysis. They were readily soluble in polar organic solvents such as N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidone and N,N‐dimethylacetamide and could afford colorless, flexible, and tough films with good mechanical strengths via solvent casting. These hydrazide polymers exhibited glass‐transition temperatures of 149–207 °C and could be thermally cyclodehydrated into the corresponding oxadiazole polymers in the solid state at elevated temperatures. Although the oxadiazole polymers showed a significantly decreased solubility with respect to their hydrazide prepolymers, some oxadiazole polymers were still organosoluble. The thermally converted oxadiazole polymers had glass‐transition temperatures of 217–255 °C and softening temperatures of 215–268 °C and did not show significant weight loss before 400 °C in nitrogen or air. For a comparative study, related sulfonyl polymers without the ether groups were also synthesized from 4,4′‐sulfonyldibenzoic acid and the hydrazide monomers by the same synthetic routes. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Novel polyfluorene copolymers alternately having an 1,3,4‐oxadiazole unit in the main chain were prepared by both one‐step and two‐step methods for polyoxadiazole synthesis. They displayed highly efficient blue photoluminescence, the properties of which were affected by the extent of conjugation and the changes in the electron density by a side chain. An electrochemical analysis of the polymers using cyclic voltammetry suggested that they could be used as electron‐transport/hole‐blocking materials as well as blue emission materials for polymer light‐emitting diodes. A simple double‐layer device consisting of poly(N‐vinylcarbazole) as a hole‐transport layer and poly[(9,9′‐didodecylfluorene‐2,7‐diyl)‐alt‐((1,4‐bis(1,3,4‐oxadiazole)‐2,5‐di(2‐ethylhexyloxy)phenylene)‐5,5′‐diyl)] as an emission layer exhibited narrow blue electroluminescence with a maximum at 430 nm. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. New copoly(aryl ether)s ( P1 – P3 ) containing alternate 2,5‐dihexyloxy‐1,4‐di(m‐ethoxystyryl)benzene ( P1 , P2 ) or 2,5‐dihexyloxy‐1,4‐distyrylbenzene ( P3 ) chromophores and aromatic 1,3,4‐oxadiazole ( P1 ) or 3,3″‐terphenyldicarbonitrile ( P2 , P3 ) segments were prepared by Horner reaction ( P1 and P2 ) or nucleophilic displacement reaction ( P3 ). They are basically amorphous materials with 5% weight‐loss temperature above 410 °C. Their absorption, photoluminescence spectra, and quantum yields are dependent on the composition of the isolated fluorophores. The emissions are exclusively dominated by 1,4‐distyrylbenzene segments via excitation energy transfer from electron‐transporting 1,3,4‐oxadiazole ( P1 ) or 3,3″‐terphenyldicarbonitrile ( P2 , P3 ) chromophores. The HOMO and LUMO energy levels have been estimated from their cyclic voltammograms, and the observations confirm that oxidation and reduction start from the emitting 1,4‐distyrylbenzene and electron‐transporting segments, respectively, indicating that both carriers affinity can be enhanced simultaneously. Among the two‐layer PLED devices (ITO/PEDOT/ P1 – P3 /Al), P1 exhibits the best performance with a turn‐on field of 4 × 105 V/cm and a maximum luminance of 225 cd/m2. However, P2 emits green–yellow light (555 nm), owing to the excimer emission. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 43: 5009–5022, 2005  相似文献

A poly(p‐phenylenevinylene) derivative (PPV–TPA)] and a series of statistical copolyfluorenes (PF–TPA)] containing oxadiazole and triphenylamine segments along the main chain were synthesized by the Heck reaction and nickel‐mediated coupling, respectively. The PF–TPA copolyfluorenes with relatively low contents of oxadiazole and triphenylamine units were readily soluble in common organic solvents, whereas the other copolyfluorenes displayed lower solubility. PPV–TPA showed excellent solubility in solvents such as tetrahydrofuran (THF), dichloromethane, chloroform, and toluene. Thin films of the polymers absorbed light in the range of 375–396 nm and had optical band gaps of 2.76–2.98 eV. They emitted blue‐green light with a maximum at 414–522 nm. The fluorescence quantum yields in THF solutions were 0.08–0.53. The copolyfluorene PF–TPA thin films with high contents of oxadiazole and triphenylamine moieties emitted pure blue light that remained stable even after annealing at 150 °C for 4 h in air. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two new phenyl‐ and naphthyl‐substituted rigid‐rod aromatic dicarboxylic acid monomers, 2,2′‐diphenylbiphenyl‐4,4′‐dicarboxylic acid ( 4 ) and 2,2′‐di(1‐naphthyl)biphenyl‐4,4′‐dicarboxylic acid ( 5 ), were synthesized by the Suzuki coupling reaction of 2,2′‐diiodobiphenyl‐4,4′‐dicarboxylic acid dimethyl ester with benzeneboronic acid and naphthaleneboronic acid, respectively, followed by alkaline hydrolysis of the ester groups. Four new polyhydrazides were prepared from the dicarboxylic acids 4 and 5 with terephthalic dihydrazide (TPH) and isophthalic dihydrazide (IPH), respectively, via the Yamazaki phosphorylation reaction. These polyhydrazides were amorphous and readily soluble in many organic solvents. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) indicated that these hydrazide polymers had glass transition temperatures in the range of 187–234 °C and could be thermally cyclodehydrated into the corresponding oxadiazole polymers in the range of 300–400 °C. The resulting poly(1,3,4‐oxadiazole)s exhibited Tg's in the range of 252–283 °C, 10% weight‐loss temperature in excess of 470 °C, and char yield at 800 °C in nitrogen higher than 54%. These organo‐soluble polyhydrazides and poly(1,3,4‐oxadiazole)s exhibited UV–Vis absorption maximum at 262–296 and 264–342 nm in NMP solution, and their photoluminescence spectra showed maximum bands around 414–445 and 404–453 nm, respectively, with quantum yield up to 38%. The electron‐transporting properties were examined by electrochemical methods. We report the preparation and characterization of a series of novel electrochromic, aromatic poly(amine amide)s with pendent triphenylamine units. The synthesis proceeded via direct phosphorylation polycondensation between a novel diamine, N,N‐bis(4‐aminophenyl)‐N′,N′‐diphenyl‐1,4‐phenylenediamine, and various aromatic dicarboxylic acids. All the poly(amine amide)s were amorphous and readily soluble in many common organic solvents and could be solution‐cast into transparent, tough, and flexible films with good mechanical properties. They exhibited good thermal stability and 10% weight‐loss temperatures above 540 °C. Their glass‐transition temperatures were 263–290 °C. These polymers in N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidinone solutions exhibited strong ultraviolet–visible absorption peaks at 307–358 nm and photoluminescence peaks around 532–590 nm in the green region. The hole‐transporting and electrochromic properties were studied with electrochemical and spectroelectrochemical methods. Cyclic voltammograms of poly(amine amide) films prepared by the casting of polymer solutions onto an indium tin oxide coated glass substrate exhibited two reversible oxidation redox couples at 0.65 and 1.03 V versus Ag/AgCl in an acetonitrile solution. All the poly(amine amide)s showed excellent stability with respect to their electrochromic characteristics; the color of the films changed from pale yellow to green and then blue at 0.85 and 1.25 V, respectively. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. PPV‐based copolymers containing phenothiazine‐5‐oxide and phenothiazine‐5, 5‐dioxide moieties have been successfully synthesized by Wittig‐Horner reaction and characterized by means of UV‐vis, photoluminescence, electroluminescence spectra, and cyclic voltammetry. All of these copolymers can be dissolved in common organic solvents such as chloroform, tetrahydrofuran, and toluene. The PL maxima in the film state are located at 582, 556, and 552 nm for P1, P2, and P3, respectively. The HOMO and LUMO levels of P2 are found to be ?5.21 and ?2.68 eV, respectively; whereas those of P3 are found to be ?5.26 and ?2.71 eV, respectively. The cyclic voltammetry result indicates that the conversion of electron‐donating sulfide to electron‐withdrawing sulfoxide or sulfone group in polymers plays a dominating role in increasing its oxidation potential. Yellowish‐green light ranging from 568 to 540 nm was observed for the single layer device with the configuration of ITO/Polymer/Ca/Al. Double layer devices with Zn (BTZ)2 as a hole blocking layer exhibited enhanced EL performance compared to the single layer devices. The maximum brightness of the double layer devices of P1, P2, and P3 is 278, 400, and 796 cd/m2, respectively. The results of EL and electrochemical analyses revealed that they are promising candidate materials for organic, light‐emitting diodes with hole‐transporting ability. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In a continuation of our research on new chromophores for photoinitiators (PIs), we investigated a triple‐bond‐containing benzophenone derivative. 1,5‐Diphenyl‐1,4‐pentadiyn‐3‐one ( 2 ) was prepared from phenylacetylene and ethyl formate by a one‐pot reaction. Differential scanning photocalorimetry experiments in lauryl acrylate of 2 showed surprisingly high activity for the double‐bond conversion and rate of polymerization at the lowest PI concentrations and even without any coinitiator. By the application of monomers with abstractable hydrogens, significant improvement in the photoreactivity was observed. Ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy revealed strong absorption up to 350 nm. Steady‐state photolysis experiments proved that the photochemistry of this compound was faster than that of benzophenone. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two new aromatic poly(amide‐hydrazide)s (PAHs)‐bearing electroactive pyrenylamine units in the backbone were prepared from the phosphorylation polycondensation reactions of N,N‐di(4‐carboxyphenyl)‐1‐aminopyrene ( 1 ) with p‐aminobenzoyl hydrazide (p‐ABH) and m‐aminobenzoyl hydrazide (m‐ABH), respectively. The PAHs could be further cyclodehydrated into the corresponding poly(amide‐1,3,4‐oxadiazole)s in the range of 300–400 °C in the solid film state. All the hydrazide and oxadiazole polymers were soluble in many polar organic solvents and could afford flexible and strong films via solution casting. The poly(amide‐1,3,4‐oxdiazole)s had high glass‐transition temperatures (294–309 °C) and high thermal stability (10% weight‐loss temperature in excess of 520 °C). The dilute solutions of all the hydrazide and oxadiazole polymers showed strong fluorescence with emission maxima around 457–459 nm in the blue region. Copolymers obtained from the polycondensation of equimolar mixture of diacid 1 and 4,4′‐oxydibenzoic acid with p‐ABH or m‐ABH exhibited a significantly increased fluorescence quantum efficiency in comparison with the homopolymers. Cyclic voltammetry results indicated that all the hydrazide and oxadiazole polymers exhibited an ambipolar (n‐ and p‐doping processes) and electrochromic behavior. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
