The existence of a Picard-Vessiot extension for a homogeneous linear differential equation has been established when the differential field over which the equation is defined has an algebraically closed field of constants. In this paper, we prove the existence of a Picard-Vessiot extension for a homogeneous linear differential equation defined over a real differential field K with real closed field of constants. We give an adequate definition of the differential Galois group of a Picard-Vessiot extension of a real differential field with real closed field of constants and we prove a Galois correspondence theorem for such a Picard-Vessiot extension.  相似文献

We give a new proof of the Khinchin inequality for the sequence of k-Rademacher functions: We obtain constants which are independent of k. Although the constants are not best possible, they improve estimates of Floret and Matos [4] and they do have optimal dependence on p as p → ∞.  相似文献

In this paper both we establish the best constants for the Nash inequalities on the standard unit sphere Sn of Rn+1, n≥3 and we give answers on the existence of extremal functions on the corresponding problems. Also we study the problem of the best constants in the case where the data are invariant under the action of the group G=O(kO(m), k+m=n+1 and we find the best constants.  相似文献

Summary In this paper, methods for numerical verifications of solutions for elliptic equations in nonconvex polygonal domains are studied. In order to verify solutions using computer, it is necessary to determine some constants which appear in a priori error estimations. We propose some methods for determination of these constants. In numerical examples, calculating these constants for anL-shaped domain, we verify the solution of a nonlinear elliptic equation.  相似文献

This paper studies contraction constants of non-zero degree mappings from compact spin Riemannian manifolds onto the standard Riemannian sphere. We establish the existence of weak solutions of a nonlinear radiation-type boundary value problem for elliptic equation on divergence form with discontinuous leading coefficient. Quantitative estimates play a crucial role on the real applications. Our objective is the derivation of explicit expressions of the involved constants in the quantitative estimates, the so-called absolute or universal bounds. The dependence on the leading coefficient and on the size of the spatial domain is precise. This work shows that the expressions of those constants are not so elegant as we might expect.  相似文献

We investigate the stability constants of convex sets in linear spaces. We prove that the stability constants of affinity and of the Jensen equation are of the same order of magnitude for every convex set in arbitrary linear spaces, even for functions mapping into an arbitrary Banach space. We also show that the second Whitney constant corresponding to the bounded functions equals half of the stability constant of the Jensen equation whenever the latter is finite. We show that if a convex set contains arbitrarily long segments in every direction, then its Jensen and Whitney constants are uniformly bounded. We prove a result that reduces the investigation of the stability constants to the case when the underlying set is the unit ball of a Banach space. As an application we prove that if D is convex and every δ-Jensen function on D differs from a Jensen function by a bounded function, then the stability constants of D are finite.  相似文献

Among the well-known constants in the theory of boundary integral equations are the coercivity constants of the single-layer potential and the hypersingular boundary integral operator, and the contraction constant of the double-layer potential. Whereas there have been rigorous studies how these constants depend on the size and aspect ratio of the underlying domain, only little is known on their dependency on the shape of the boundary. In this article, we consider the homogeneous Laplace equation and derive explicit estimates for the above-mentioned constants in three dimensions. Using an alternative trace norm, we make the dependency explicit in two geometric parameters, the so-called Jones parameter and the constant in Poincaré's inequality. The latter one can be tracked back to the constant in an isoperimetric inequality. There are many domains with quite irregular boundaries, where these parameters stay bounded. Our results provide a new tool in the analysis of numerical methods for boundary integral equations and in particular for boundary element based domain decomposition methods.  相似文献

We present a priori and a posteriori estimates for the error between the Galerkin and a discretized Galerkin method for the boundary integral equation for the single layer potential on the square plate. Using piecewise constant finite elements on a rectangular mesh we study the error coming from numerical integration. The crucial point of our analysis is the estimation of some error constants, and we demonstrate that this is necessary if our methods are to be used. After the determination of these constants we are in the position to prove invertibility and quasioptimal convergence results for our numerical scheme, if the chosen numerical integration formulas are sufficiently precise. © 1992 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

We study the existence and energy decay of solutions for the strongly damped nonlinear beam equation. We apply a method based on Nakao method to show that the solution decays exponentially, and to obtain precise estimates of the constants in the estimates. Based on the symbolic computation system––Maple and a Riccati equation, by introducing a new more general ansätz than the ansätz in the tanh method, extended tanh-function method, modified extended tanh-function method, generalized tanh method and generalized hyperbolic-function method, we propose a generalized Riccati equation expansion method for searching for exact soliton-like solutions of nonlinear evolution equations and implemented in computer symbolic system––Maple. Making use of our method, we study a typical breaking soliton equation and obtain new families of exact solutions, which include the nontravelling wave’ and coefficient function’ soliton-like solutions, singular soliton-like solutions and periodic solutions. The arbitrary functions of some solutions are taken to be some special constants or functions, the known solutions of this equation can be recovered.  相似文献

By mean of generalized Fourier series and Parseval’s equality in weighted \(L^{2}\)-spaces, we derive a sharp energy estimate for the wave equation in a bounded interval with a moving endpoint. Then, we show the observability, in a sharp time, at each of the endpoints of the interval. The observability constants are explicitly given. We give the optimal constants in the Marcinkiewicz–Zygmund inequalities for symmetric summands. As an application we substantially improve the estimates of Ren and Liang (2001) in the Marcinkiewicz–Zygmund–Hölder inequality and identify the best possible constants in the symmetric case.  相似文献

The renormalization group (RG) method for differential equations is one of the perturbation methods which allows one to obtain invariant manifolds of a given ordinary differential equation together with approximate solutions to it. This article investigates higher order RG equations which serve to refine an error estimate of approximate solutions obtained by the first order RG equations. It is shown that the higher order RG equation maintains the similar theorems to those provided by the first order RG equation, which are theorems on well-definedness of approximate vector fields, and on inheritance of invariant manifolds from those for the RG equation to those for the original equation, for example. Since the higher order RG equation is defined by using indefinite integrals and is not unique for the reason of the undetermined integral constants, the simplest form of RG equation is available by choosing suitable integral constants. It is shown that this simplified RG equation is sufficient to determine whether the trivial solution to time-dependent linear equations is hyperbolically stable or not, and thereby a synchronous solution of a coupled oscillators is shown to be stable.  相似文献

A homogeneous second order linear differential equation is considered. On an open interval where the equation has sense, it generates a family of operators of the Dirichlet problem on the set of all subintervals; this family is a generalized semi-group. Let the equation be defined on two disjoint intervals with a common boundary point z. It is shown that an extension of the corresponding two semi-groups of operators to the semi-group of operators corresponding to the union of the intervals and the point z is not unique and depends on two abritrary constants. To give an interpretation of these arbitrary constants, we use a one-dimensional locally Markov diffusion process with special properties of passage of the point z. One of these arbitrary constants determines the delay of the process at the point z, and the second one induces an asymmetry of the process with respect to z. The two extremal values of the latter constant, 0 and ∞, determine the reflection of the process from the point z when the process approaches the point from the left and right, respectively. Using matrix algebra we obtain a general equation for the sum, normalized with suitable constants, of all the expected hitting times in an ergodic Markov chain. This equation yields as corollaries, among others, Broder and Karlin’s formula, Foster’s nth formula and an expression of the Kirchhoff index in terms of the eigenvalues of the Laplacian.  相似文献

Summary The objective of this paper is to give necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of periodic solutions of coupled systems of differential-difference and difference equations. By differentiating the difference equation, we obtain a system of neutral differential-difference equations and we get the original problem by putting a side condition on the neutral equation; that is, by restricting the initial data to lie on certain manifold in the space of all initial data. This allows us to treat the problem using the methods of neutral functional differential equations. In[8], Hale and Martinez-Amore exploited a certain change of variables to obtain some results on the stability of this systems. In Section 2, we summarize those ideas. The effect of the side condition is reflected in the variation of constants formula in Section 3. In this section, the variation of constants formula is decomposed via eigenspaces. In Section 4, we give a theorem on the Fredholm alternative for periodic solutions which is basic to the application of the usual theory to perturbed linear problems.
