The flavor and helicity distributions of the and hyperons for both valence and sea quarks are calculated in a perturbative QCD (pQCD) based model. We relate these quark distributions
to the fragmentation functions of and , and calculate the z-dependence of the longitudinal spin transfer to and in lepton deep-inelastic scattering (DIS). It is shown that the spin transfer to the is compatible with the first HERMES results at DESY, and further tests are suggested. We also make predictions for the z-dependence of the and longitudinal polarizations in neutrino (antineutrino) DIS processes. We investigate the sea contribution to the fragmentation
functions, and we test a possible scenario where the sea quarks in (or the sea antiquarks in ) are negatively polarized, whereas the sea antiquarks in the (or the sea quarks in ) are positively polarized. The asymmetry of the polarized fragmentation functions of the sea quarks and antiquarks to and provides a way to understand the different behavior between the and spin transfers observed in the recent E665 experiment at FNAL.

Results are presented on the ratio of the inelastic muon-nucleus cross section per nucleon for carbon and calcium relative to that for deuterium. The measurements were made in the kinematic range of low x (0.003–0.1) and low Q2 (0.3–3.2 GeV2) at an incident muon energy of 280 GeV. The calcium to deuterium ratio shows a significant x dependence which is interpreted as a shadowing effect. No strong Q2 dependence is observed. This suggests that the effect is due at least partially to parton interactions within the nucleus. 相似文献

We study the quark and gluon final state in deep inelastic μ-scattering. For a hadron observed at sufficiently large angleθ h with respect to the virtual photon direction, and sufficiently large energy fractionz h , this final state dominates the cross-section. Moreover, at the same time, most events in this regime are due to the fragmentation of the quark. In such cases the position of the gluon in phase space is determined, the quark acting as a trigger for gluon jet detection. We demonstrate that in the rest frame of the final quark and gluon, the gluon is energetic and well separated from quark and target fragments. We study the boost from the lab to this frame, and give expressions for the most probable boost in terms ofθ h andz h . This study should lead to a convenient visualization of the gluon jet. 相似文献

It is shown that the simple generalized vector dominance model developed a long time ago, consistently and quantitatively describes the shadowing effect recently detected in deep inelastic muon scattering on heavy nuclei. 相似文献

A search was made at the CERN SPS for long-lived fractionally charged particles produced in deep inelastic muon interactions on a Be target using the existing muon beam line as a spectrometer. No such particles were found, leading to upper limits for the production cross section of the order of 10?36 cm2 for 200 GeV incident muon momentum and quark masses below 9 GeV for the charge and 15 GeV for charge. 相似文献

The transverse momenta of charged hadrons produced in high energy muon-proton scattering have been studied. The average squared transverse momentum 〈p2⊥〉 shows a strong dependence on z = Eh/v characteristic of intrinsic momentum effects and a significant rise as a function of s = W2. The W2, q2, x and z dependences of the data are compared with the predictions of a perturbative QCD model. 相似文献

The neutral-current deep inelastic scattering differential cross-sections , for GeV, and , for , 2500 and 10000 GeV, have been measured with the ZEUS detector at HERA. The data sample of 47.7 pb was collected at a center-of-mass energy of 300 GeV. The cross-section, , falls by six orders of magnitude between and 40000 GeV. The predictions of the Standard Model are in very good agreement with the data. Complementing the observations of time-like
contributions to fermion-antifermion annihilation, the data provide direct evidence for the presence of exchange in the space-like region explored by deep inelastic scattering.

The process p $ \bar{{p}}$ $ \rightarrow$ $ \Lambda_{c}^{+}$ $ \bar{{\Lambda}}_{c}^{-}$ is investigated within the handbag approach. It is shown to lowest order of perturbative QCD that, under the assumption of restricted parton virtualities and transverse momenta, the dominant dynamical mechanism, characterized by the partonic subprocess u $ \bar{{u}}$ $ \rightarrow$ c $ \bar{{c}}$ , factorizes in the sense that only the subprocess contains highly virtual partons, namely a gluon, while the hadronic matrix elements embody only soft scales and can be parameterized in terms of helicity flip and non-flip generalized parton distributions. Modelling the latter functions by overlaps of light-cone wave functions for the involved baryons we are able to predict cross-sections and spin correlation parameters for the process of interest. 相似文献

We calculate, to first order in QCD, the probability for a fast hadron observed at laboratory angle θ h from the virtual photon directionq, to originate from the quark of a quark-gluon final state. Given this probability, the average gluon energy and angle with respect toq are then calculated. This approach provides a method for gluon jet direction in forthcoming experiments. 相似文献

We calculate the predictions of asymptotically free theories for deep inelasric scattering using a straightforward Mellin transform technique which uses a minimum of theoretical assumptions. Parameterizing the quark and anti-quark distributions functions, we fit all the available μ and e scattering data. We investigate the sensitivity of the theory of the (almost) unknown gluon distributions and the choice of scaling variable. The best fit uses the formalism of Georgi and Politzer for the 1/Q2 terms with a quark gluon coupling constant g2/4π ~ 1 at Q2 = 1 (GeV/c)2. (Equivalently the scale parameter Λ is 500 MeV/c.) Good fits are also found in simpler models using x, x′ or ξ as scaling variables. The best value of Λ depends strongly on the choice of scaling variable. 相似文献
