In this paper we study the electronic structure of Lindqvist, Keggin, Dawson and Preyssler polyoxometalates (POMs) at the DFT level, particularly their LUMOs and reduction energies. Our aim was to revisit the previously reported evidence that a linear relationship exists between reduction potentials and molecular charges in Keggin anions. In this line of thought, we calculated one simple structural parameter-volume of the clusters-so that the corresponding volume charge density, rho(v), could be estimated. Contrary to what we expected, the connection between rho(v) and the experimental reduction potentials is not evident since q/V itself does not justify the scale of oxidizing powers. Complementary calculations were performed using the clathrate model, anion@W(m)O(3m), analyzing separately the effects of the size of the neutral cages and the molecular charge, q, upon the redox properties. The parameter m emulates the size (volume) of the clusters, only approximately, but with the benefit that it is easily accounted for. A linear relationship was found between the difference in LUMO energies for the neutral and charged clusters and the q/m ratio.  相似文献

The mononuclear manganese bis‐terpyridine complex [Mn(tolyl‐terpy)2](X)3 ( 1 (X)3; X=BF4, ClO4, PF6; tolyl‐terpy=4′‐(4‐methylphenyl)‐2,2′:6′,2“‐terpyridine), containing Mn in the unusual +III oxidation state, has been isolated and characterised. The 1 3+ ion is a rare example of a mononuclear MnIII complex stabilised solely by neutral N ligands. Complex 1 3+ is obtained by electrochemical oxidation of the corresponding MnII compound 1 2+ in anhydrous acetonitrile. Under these conditions the cyclic voltammogram of 1 2+ exhibits not only the well‐known MnII/MnIII oxidation at E1/2=+0.91 V versus Ag/Ag+ (+1.21 V vs. SCE) but also a second metal‐based oxidation process corresponding to MnIII/MnIV at E1/2=+1.63 V (+1.93 V vs. SCE). Single crystals of 1 (PF6)3?2 CH3CN were obtained by an electrocrystallisation procedure. X‐ray analysis unambiguously revealed its tetragonally compressed octahedral geometry and high‐spin character. The electronic properties of 1 3+ were investigated in detail by magnetic measurements and theoretical calculations, from which a D value of +4.82 cm?1 was precisely determined. Density functional and complete active space self consistent field ab initio calculations both correctly predict a positive sign of D, in agreement with the compressed tetragonal distortion observed in the X‐ray structure of 1 (PF6)3?2 CH3CN. The different contributions to D were calculated, and the results show that 1) the spin–orbit coupling part (+2.593 cm?1) is predominant compared to the spin–spin interaction (+1.075 cm?1) and 2) the excited triplet states make the dominant contribution to the total D value.  相似文献

The cathodic stripping voltammetry of six thiols by deposition at a hanging mercury drop electrode (+0.05 V vs. SCE) from acetate-buffered solution (pH 4.76) and scanning to —0.8 V is described. Peak potentials are reported. The peak height—concentration relationships are reasonably linear in the range 0.4–1.2 μM. The compounds tested are 2-mercaptopyridine, 2-mercapto-3-pyridinol, 2-mercaptopyridine-N-oxide, mercaptosuccinic acid, 2-mercaptopyrimidine and cysteine hydrochloride.  相似文献

SDS‐PAGE/Edman degradation and HPLC MS/MS showed that zirconium(IV)‐substituted Lindqvist‐, Keggin‐, and Wells–Dawson‐type polyoxometalates (POMs) selectively hydrolyze the protein myoglobin at Asp? X peptide bonds under mildly acidic and neutral conditions. This transformation is the first example of highly sequence selective protein hydrolysis by POMs, a novel class of protein‐hydrolyzing agents. The selectivity is directed by Asp residues located on the surface of the protein and is further assisted by electrostatic interactions between the negatively charged POMs and positively charged surface patches in the vicinity of the cleavage site.  相似文献

Hybrid structures incorporating different organic and inorganic constituents are emerging as a very promising class of materials since they synergistically combine the complementary and diverse properties of the individual components. Hybrid materials based on polyoxometalate clusters (POMs) are particularly interesting due to their versatile catalytic, redox, electronic, and magnetic properties, yet the controlled incorporation of different clusters into a hybrid structure is challenging and has been scarcely reported. Herein we propose a novel and general strategy for combining multiple types of metal-oxo clusters in a single hybrid molecule. Two novel hybrid POM structures (HPOMs) bis-functionalised with dipentaerythritol (R–POM1–R; R = (OCH2)3CCH2OCH2C(CH2OH)) were synthesised as building-blocks for the formation of heterometallic hybrid triads (POM2–R–POM1–R–POM2). Such a modular approach resulted in the formation of four novel heterometallic hybrids combing the Lindqvist {V6}, Anderson–Evans {XMo6} (X = Cr or Al) and trisubstituted Wells–Dawson {P2V3W15} POM structures. Their formation was confirmed by multinuclear Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), infrared (IR) and UV-Vis spectroscopy, as well as Mass Spectrometry, Diffusion Ordered Spectroscopy (DOSY) and elemental analysis. The thermal stability of the hybrids was also examined by Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), which showed that the HPOM triads exhibit higher thermal stability than comparable hybrid structures containing only one type of POM. The one-pot synthesis of these novel compounds was achieved in high yields in aqueous and organic media under simple reflux conditions, without the need of any additives, and could be translated to create other hybrid materials based on a variety of metal-oxo cluster building-blocks.

A versatile modular approach has been developed for incorporating different metal-oxo nanoclusters with characteristic structures into a single hybrid molecule by covalently linking them with polyol ligands.  相似文献

Direct and indirect potentiometric, bipotentiometric and biamperometric titrations with a standard iron(II) solution are described for some inorganic compounds in alkaline media containing hexitols (mannitol, dulcitol and sorbitol). The optimal conditions for titrations based on the Cr(VI) → Cr(III), Mn(IV) → Mn(III) → Mn(II), V(V) → V(IV), Co(III) → Co(II) and U(VI) → U(IV) systems are discussed. Of the hexitols studied, sorbitol has the greatest effect on the value of the redox potential of the Fe(III)/Fe(II) system; the Ef° value is about —1.10 V vs. SCE.  相似文献

Ruthenium(II) terpyridine complexes containing the pyrrole-tagged 2,2'-dipyridylamine ligand PPP (where PPP stands for N-(3-bis(2-pyridyl)aminopropyl)pyrrole with the general formula [Ru(tpy)(PPP)X](n+) (1, X = Cl(-); 2, X = H(2)O; 3, X = CH(3)CN; tpy = 2,2':6',2"-terpyridine) have been synthesized and characterized by (1)H NMR, IR, UV-vis, mass spectrometry, and elemental analysis. 1 and 2 have been structurally characterized by X-ray crystallography. Both 1 and 2 were successfully immobilized onto glassy carbon electrode via anodic oxidation of the pyrrole moiety on the PPP ligand to give stable and highly electroactive polymer films. Cyclic voltammetric studies of 1 in acetonitrile revealed a Ru(III)/Ru(II) couple at 0.4 V vs Cp(2)Fe(+/0) initially, but another redox couple resulting from chloride substitution by acetonitrile developed at E(1/2) = 0.82 V upon repetitive potential scan. This ligand substitution was induced by the acidic local environment caused by the release of protons during pyrrole polymerization. The electropolymerization of 2 in aqueous medium allowed the observation of the formation of Ru(IV)═O species in polypyrrole film. As the film grew thicker, the size of the Ru(III)/(/)Ru(II) couple (E(1/2) = 0.8 V vs SCE at pH 1) of poly[Ru(tpy)(PPP)(OH(2))](n+) increased accordingly, whereas the growth of the Ru(IV)/Ru(III) couple (E(1/2) = 0.89 V vs SCE at pH 1) leveled off after the film had reached a certain thickness. The Pourbaix diagram of the E(1/2) of the Ru(III) /Ru(II) and Ru(IV)/Ru(III) couples vs pH of the electrolyte medium has been obtained. The resulting poly[Ru(tpy)(PPP)(OH(2))](n+) film is electrocatalytically active toward the oxidation of benzyl alcohol.  相似文献

平衡电极电势实验确定了25 ℃, 1.5 mol•L-1醋酸钾+醋酸-醋酐(3:1体积比)溶液中Mn(III)/Mn(II)的条件电极电势为0.719 V(vs SCE);采用电势扫描和旋转圆盘电极技术研究了醋酸-醋酐溶液中铂电极上Mn(III)/Mn(II)电对的阳极氧化动力学. 结果表明:Mn(II)阳极氧化成Mn(III)的电极反应控制步骤属电荷传递过程, 阳极传递系数β=0.347,交换电流密度i0=5.84×10-6 A•cm-2,阳极标准反应速率常数ka=1.35×10-8 m•s-1, Mn(II)和OAc-的反应级数均为一级.  相似文献

Here was demonstrated for the first time a possible application of abrasive stripping voltammetry in the direct measurement of trace metals in anoxic, sulfidic marine sediments (peloid mud) from a small and shallow (0.2–1 m) marine lagoon in Central Dalmatia, Croatia. Trace amounts of sample compounds are transferred to the graphite electrode surface and electrochemical reduction or oxidation processes are followed by the cyclic voltammetry in seawater or 0.55 M NaCl as electrolyte. After a preelectrolysis at potentials ranging from ?1.0 to ?1.5 V (vs. SCE) a well‐defined anodic stripping peak corresponding to the oxidation of metal deposits generated at deposition potentials is obtained around ?0.74 V (vs. SCE). The same samples were studied by anodic stripping voltammetry at the Hg electrode and inductively coupled plasma‐mass spectrometer (ICP‐MS). ICP‐MS showed higher concentrations of trace metals such as Al, Fe, Mo, Mn. A relatively high concentration of reduced sulfur species (RSS) (10?3 M) is determined electrochemically in porewater of the peloid mud, indicating that the magnitude of metal enrichment in the sediments is probably controlled by precipitation with sulfide.  相似文献

Reduction-oxidation (redox) reactions of the redox couples An(VI)/An(V), An(V)/An(IV), and An(IV)/An(III), where An is an element in the family of early actinides (U, Np, and Pu), as well as Am(VI)/Am(V) and Am(V)/Am(III), are modeled by combining density functional theory with a generalized Anderson impurity model that accounts for the strong correlations between the 5f electrons. Diagonalization of the Anderson impurity model yields improved estimates for the redox potentials and the propensity of the actinide complexes to disproportionate.  相似文献

The mixture of samarium diiodide, amine, and water (SmI2/H2O/Et3N) is known to be a particularly powerful reductant, but until now the limiting reducing power has not been determined. A series of unsaturated hydrocarbons with varying half-wave reduction potentials (E(1/2) = -1.6 to -3.4 V, vs SCE) have been treated with SmI2/H2O/Et3N and YbI2/H2O/Et3N, respectively. All hydrocarbons with potentials of -2.8 V or more positive were readily reduced with SmI2/H2O/Et3N, whereas all hydrocarbons with potentials of -2.3 V or more positive were readily reduced using YbI2/H2O/Et3N. This defines limiting values of the chemical reducing power of SmI2/H2O/Et3N to -2.8 V and of YbI2/H2O/Et3N to -2.3 V vs SCE.  相似文献

The dinuclear phenolato-bridged complex [(mL)Mn(II)Mn(II)(mL)](ClO(4))(2) (1(ClO(4))(2)) has been obtained with the new [N(4)O] pentadentate ligand mL(-) (mLH=N,N'-bis-(2-pyridylmethyl)-N-(2-hydroxybenzyl)-N'-methyl-ethane-1,2-diamine) and has been characterised by X-ray crystallography. X- and Q-band EPR spectra were recorded and their variation with temperature was examined. All spectra exhibit features extending over 0-800 mT at the X band and over 100-1450 mT at the Q band, features that are usually observed for dinuclear Mn(II) complexes. Cyclic voltammetry of 1 exhibits two irreversible oxidation waves at E(1)(p)=0.89 V and E(2)(p)=1.02 V, accompanied on the reverse scan by an ill-defined cathodic wave at E(1')(p)=0.56 V (all measured versus the saturated calomel electrode (SCE)). Upon chemical oxidation with tBuOOH (10 equiv) at 20 degrees C, 1 is transformed into the mono-mu-oxo species [(mL)Mn(III)-(mu-O)-Mn(III)(mL)](2+) (2), which eventually partially evolves into the di-mu-oxo species [(mL)Mn(III)-(mu-O)(2)-Mn(IV)(mL)](n+) (3) in which one of the aromatic rings of the ligand is decoordinated. The UV/Vis spectrum of 2 displays a large absorption band at 507 nm, which is attributed to a phenolate-->Mn(III) charge-transfer transition. The cyclovoltammogram of 2 exhibits two reversible oxidation waves, at 0.65 and 1.16 V versus the SCE, corresponding to the Mn(III)Mn(III)/Mn(III)Mn(IV) and Mn(III)Mn(IV)/Mn(IV)Mn(IV) oxidation processes, respectively. The one-electron electrochemical oxidation of 2 leads to the mono-mu-oxo mixed-valent species [(mL)Mn(III)-(mu-O)-Mn(IV)(mL)](3+) (2 ox). The UV/Vis spectrum of 2 ox exhibits one large band at 643 nm, which is attributed to the phenolate-->Mn(IV) charge-transfer transition. 2 ox can also be obtained by the direct electrochemical oxidation of 1 in the presence of an external base. The 2 ox and 3 species exhibit a 16-line EPR signal with first peak to last trough widths of 125 and 111 mT, respectively. Both spectra have been simulated by using colinear rhombic Mn-hyperfine tensors. Mechanisms for the chemical formation of 2 and the electrochemical oxidation of 1 into 2 ox are proposed.  相似文献

A chalcopyrite CuFeS2 electrode obtained from the “El Teniente” mine has been studied by Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) in an alkaline solution for different oxidation potentials. The experimental results can be interpreted from a Randles equivalent circuit, Vdc<0.4 V vs. saturated calomel electrode (SCE), and a surface layer model for Vdc>0.4 V vs. SCE. From these results, the variation with the d.c. applied potentials of charge transfer electrical resistance of the redox reaction, the double layer capacitance and other characteristic parameters are considered.  相似文献

The structure of a bisterpyridine-like oligopyridine (abbreviated as 2,4'-BTP) monolayer on Au(111), adsorbed from an acetone solution, was studied by in situ scanning tunneling microscopy and cyclic voltammetry in aqueous 0.1 M H2SO4. Short-range ordered adsorption with an average distance between the individual molecules of about 2 nm was observed only at electrode potentials positive of +0.4 V vs SCE, whereas at more negative potentials, no order could be found. With the help of Cu underpotential deposition, a potential-induced, fast, and fully reversible structure transition within the organic monolayer was identified at about +0.4 V vs SCE. At negative potentials the molecules apparently cluster together and consequently current-potential curves resemble those for a bare gold surface, whereas for E>+0.4 V vs SCE the molecules are spread over the entire surface in a hexagonal, close-packed fashion. This may have interesting consequences for switching between different template structures.  相似文献

The synthesis of new ruthenium(II) terpyridine bipyridine complexes bearing a phosphorus(III) ligand is presented. The steric and electronic properties of the phosphorus ligand were varied using aminophosphines, alkyl and aryl phosphites and the bulky tri(isopropyl)phosphine. All complexes were characterized by multi-nuclear NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry and X-ray diffraction analysis. The electronic properties of the complexes were probed by cyclic voltammetry, absorption and luminescence spectroscopy. The complexes do not show luminescence at room temperature, whereas at 77 K in an alcoholic matrix, emission is observed in the range 600-650 nm with lifetimes of 3.5-5.5 micros, originating from 3MLCT states. The MLCT transition spans over 65 nm, which corresponds to a variation of 0.4 eV in the HOMO-LUMO gap. The oxidation potential of the ruthenium varies over a broad range of 290 mV, from +1.32 V vs. SCE with L = PiPr3 to +1.61 V vs. SCE with L = P(OPh)3. This range is unprecedented upon the variation of a single monodentate ligand coordinated by the same heteroatom in the same oxidation and charge states. This work underlines the specific capacity of phosphorus in bringing up a large variety of electronic properties by changing its substituents.  相似文献

Engineering self‐templating inorganic architectures is critical for the development of bottom‐up approaches to nanoscience, but systems with a hierarchy of templates are elusive. Herein we describe that the cluster‐anion‐templated (CAT) assembly of a {CAT}?{Mo24Fe12} macrocycle forms a giant ca. 220 nm3 unit cell containing 16 macrocycles clustered into eight face‐shared tetrahedral cluster‐of‐clusters assemblies. We show that {CAT}?{Mo24Fe12} with different CATs gives the compounds 1 – 4 for CAT=Anderson {FeMo6} ( 1 ), Keggin {PMo12} ( 2 ), Dawson {P2W18} ( 3 ), and {Mo12O36(HPO3)2} ( 4 ) polyoxometalates. “Template‐free” assembly can be achieved, whereby the macrocycle components can also form a template in situ allowing template to macrocycle to superstructure formation and the ability to exchange the templates. Furthermore, the transformation of template clusters within the inorganic macrocycle {Mo24Fe12} allows the self‐generation of an uncapped {Mo12O36(HPO3)2} in compound 4 .  相似文献
