The catalytic efficacy of trans‐[(R3P)2Pd(O2CR′)(LB)][B(C6F5)4] ( 1 ) (LB = Lewis base) and [(R3P)2Pd(κ2O,O‐O2CR′)][B(C6F5)4] ( 2 ) for mass polymerization of 5‐n‐butyl‐2‐norbornene (Butyl‐NB) was investigated. The nature of PR3 and LB in 1 and 2 are the most critical components influencing catalytic activity/latency for the mass polymerization of Butyl‐NB. Further, it was shown that 1 is in general more latent than 2 in mass polymerization of Butyl‐NB. 5‐n‐Decyl‐2‐norbornene (Decyl‐NB) was subjected to solution polymerization in toluene at 63(±3) °C in the presence of several of the aforementioned palladium complexes as catalysts and the polymers obtained were characterized by gel permeation chromatography. Cationic trans‐[(R3P)2PdMe(MeCN)][B(C6F5)4] [R = Cy ( 3a ), and iPr ( 3b )] and trans‐[(R3P)2PdH (MeCN)][B(C6F5)4] [R = Cy ( 4a ), and iPr ( 4b )], possible products from thermolysis of trans‐[(R3P)2Pd(O2CMe)(MeCN)][B(C6F5)4] [R = Cy ( 1a ) and iPr ( 1g )], as well as trans‐[(R3P)2Pd(η3‐C3H5)][B(C6F5)4] [R = Cy ( 5a ), and iPr ( 5b )], were also examined as catalysts for solution polymerization of Decyl‐NB. A maximum activity of 5360 kg/(molPd h) of 2a was achieved at a Decyl‐NB/Pd: 26,700 ratio which is slightly better than that achieved with 5a [activity: 5030 kg/(molPd h)] but far less compared with 4a [activity: 6110 kg/(molPd h)]. Polydispersity values indicate a single highly homogeneous character of the active catalyst species. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 47: 103–110, 2009  相似文献

In this article we present the results of the preparation and characterization of two Ziegler–Natta precatalysts: MgCl2/Ethyl benzoate (EB)/TiCl4 and MgCl2/2,2,6,6 tetramethylpiperidine (TMPiP)/TiCl4 by means of FTIR, X-ray diffraction, SEM, BET surface area measurements, and other techniques applied at different steps of their preparation procedures. The precatalysts were prepared by impregnating with TiCl4 a given amount of MgCl2, which was previously ball-milled with the electron donor chosen. Prior to impregnation, the ball-milled material presented different surface compounds depending on the electron donor used: [(MgCl2)2] · 2EB, MgCl2 · EB, or a salt of the amine. The solid milled with EB is more homogeneous than the one milled with the TMPiP. Titanium is better retained in the solid milled with EB. This precatalyst has better morphological properties and larger BET surface area. By means of FTIR, we found evidences that an adequate surface structure for the formation of stereospecific sites in MgCl2/TMPiP/TiCl4 was formed. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

Copolymerizations of ethylene with α‐olefins (i.e., 1‐hexene, 1‐octene, allylbenzene, and 4‐phenyl‐1‐butene) using the bis(β‐enaminoketonato) titanium complexes [(Ph)NC(R2)CHC(R1)O]2TiCl2 ( 1a : R1 = CF3, R2 = CH3; 1b : R1 = Ph, R2 = CF3; and 1c : R1 = t‐Bu, R2 = CF3), activated with modified methylaluminoxane as a cocatalyst, have been investigated. The catalyst activity, comonomer incorporation, and molecular weight, and molecular weight distribution of the polymers produced can be controlled over a wide range by the variation of the catalyst structure, α‐olefin, and reaction parameters such as the comonomer feed concentration. The substituents R1 and R2 of the ligands affect considerably both the catalyst activity and comonomer incorporation. Precatalyst 1a exhibits high catalytic activity and produces high‐molecular‐weight copolymers with high α‐olefin insertion. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Bis(β‐enaminoketonato) vanadium(III) complexes ( 2a–c ) [O(R1)C?C(H)xC(R2)?NC6H5]2VCl(THF) and the corresponding vanadium(IV) complexes ( 3a–c ) [O(R1)C?C(H)xC(R2)? NC6H5]2VO (R1 = ? (CH2)4? , R2 = H, x = 0, a ; R1 = ? C6H5, R2 = H, x = 1, b ; R1 = ? C6H5, R2 = ? C6H5, x = 1, c ) have been synthesized from VCl3(THF)3 and VOCl2(THF)2, respectively, by treating with 2.0 equivalent β‐enaminoketonato ligands in tetrahydrofuran. Structures of 2b and 3a–c were further confirmed by X‐ray crystallographic analysis. The complexes were investigated as the catalysts for ethylene polymerization in the presence of Et2AlCl. Complexes 2a–c and 3a–c exhibited high catalytic activities (up to 23.76 kg of PE/mmolV h bar), and afforded polymers with unimodal molecular weight distributions at 70 °C indicating the good thermal stability. The catalytic behaviors were influenced not only by the oxidation state of the catalyst precursors but also by the ligand structures. Complexes 2a–c and 3a–c were also effective catalyst precursors for ethylene/1‐hexene copolymerization. The influence of polymerization parameters such as reaction temperature, Al/V molar ratio and hexene feed concentration on the ethylene/hexene copolymerization behaviors have bee also investigated in detail. In addition, the agents such as AlMe3, AliBu3, MeMgBr, MgCl2, and ZnEt2 were applied to control the molecular weight and molecular weight distribution modal. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Vanadium(III) complexes bearing phenoxy‐phosphine ligands ( 2a–g ) (2‐R1‐4‐R2‐6‐PPh2‐C6H2O)VCl2(THF)2 ( 2a : R1 = R2 = H; 2b : R1 = F, R2 = H; 2c : R1 = Ph, R2 = H; 2d : R1 = tBu, R2 = H; 2e : R1 = R2 = Me; 2f : R1 = R2 = tBu; 2g : R1 = R2 = CMe2Ph) were prepared from VCl3(THF)3 by treating with 1.0 equiv of the ligand in tetrahydrofuran (THF) in the presence of excess triethylamine (TEA). The reaction of VCl3(THF)3 with 2.0 equiv of the ligand in THF in the presence of excess TEA afforded vanadium(III) complexes bearing two phenoxy‐phosphine ligands ( 3c–f ). These complexes were characterized by FTIR and mass spectrum as well as elemental analyses. Structures of 2f and 3c were further confirmed by X‐ray crystallographic analyses. Complexes 2a–g and 3c–f were employed as the catalysts for ethylene polymerization under various reaction conditions. On activation with Et2AlCl, these complexes exhibited high catalytic activities (up to 41.3 kg PE/mmolV·h·bar) even at high temperature (70°C), and produced high molecular weight polymer with unimodal molecular weight distributions, indicating the polymerization took place in a single‐site nature. Complexes 3c–f displayed better thermal stability than the corresponding complexes 2a–g under similar conditions. In addition, copolymerizations of ethylene and 1‐hexene with precatalysts 2a–g were also explored in the presence of Et2AlCl. Catalytic activity, comonomer incorporation, and properties of the resultant polymers can be controlled over a wide range by tuning catalyst structures and reaction parameters.© 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of novel vanadium(III) complexes bearing bidentate phenoxy‐phosphine oxide [O,P=O] ligands, (2‐R1‐4‐R2‐6‐Ph2P=O‐C6H2O)VCl2(THF)2 ( 2a : R1 = R2 = H; 2b : R1 = F, R2 = H; 2c : R1 = tBu, R2 = H; 2d : R1 = Ph, R2 = H; 2e : R1 = R2 = Me; 2f : R1 = R2 = tBu; 2g : R1 = R2 = CMe2Ph) have been synthesized by adding 1 equiv of the ligand to VCl3(THF)3 dropwise in the presence of excess triethylamine. Under the same conditions, the adding of VCl3(THF)3 to 2.0 equiv of the ligand afforded vanadium(III) complexes bearing two [O,P=O] ligands ( 3c , 3f ). All the complexes were characterized by FTIR and mass spectra as well as elemental analysis. Structures of complexes 2c and 3c were further confirmed by X‐ray crystallographic analysis. On activation with Et2AlCl and ethyl trichloroacetate, these complexes displayed high catalytic activities for ethylene polymerization (up to 26.4 kg PE/mmolV·h·bar) even at high reaction temperature (70 °C) indicative of high thermal stability, and produced high molecular weight polymers with unimodal molecular weight distributions. Additionally, the complexes with optimized structure exhibited high catalytic activities for ethylene/1‐hexene copolymerization. Catalytic activity, comonomer incorporation, and polymer molecular weight can be controlled in a wide range via the variation of catalyst structure and the reaction parameters such as Al/V molar ratio, comonomer feed concentration, and reaction temperature. The monomer reactivity ratios rE and rH were determined according to 13C NMR spectra, which indicated these complexes preferred ethylene to 1‐hexene in the copolymerization. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Ethylene–propylene copolymerization, using [(Ph)NC(R2)CHC(R1)O]2TiCl2 (R1 = CF3, Ph, or t‐Bu; R2 = CH3 or CF3) titanium complexes activated with modified methylaluminoxane as a cocatalyst, was investigated. High‐molecular‐weight ethylene–propylene copolymers with relatively narrow molecular weight distributions and a broad range of chemical compositions were obtained. Substituents R1 and R2 influenced the copolymerization behavior, including the copolymerization activity, methylene sequence distribution, molecular weight, and polydispersity. With small steric hindrance at R1 and R2, one complex (R1 = CF3; R2 = CH3) displayed high catalytic activity and produced copolymers with high propylene incorporation but low molecular weight. The microstructures of the copolymers were analyzed with 13C NMR to determine the methylene sequence distribution and number‐average sequence lengths of uninterrupted methylene carbons. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The copolymerizations of ethylene and cyclopentene with bis(β‐enaminoketonato) titanium complexes {[(Ph)NC(R2)CHC(R1)O]2TiCl2; R1 = CF3 and R2 = CH3 for 1a , R1 = Ph and R2 = CF3 for 1b ; and R1 = t‐Bu and R2 = CF3 for 1c } activated with modified methylaluminoxane (MMAO) as a cocatalyst were investigated. High‐molecular‐weight copolymers with cis‐1,2‐cyclopentene units were obtained. The catalyst activity, cyclopentene incorporation, polymer molecular weight, and polydispersity could be controlled over a wide range through the variation of the catalyst structure and reaction parameters, such as the Al/Ti molar ratio, cyclopentene feed concentration, and polymerization reaction temperature. The complex 1b /MMAO catalyst system exhibited the characteristics of a quasi‐living ethylene polymerization and an ethylene–cyclopentene copolymerization and allowed the synthesis of polyethylene‐block‐poly(ethylene‐co‐cyclopentene) diblock copolymer. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Five new CpTiCl2(OR) alkoxyl-substituted half-sandwich complexes, where R was methoxyethyl ( 1 ), methoxypropyl ( 2 ), methoxyisopropyl ( 3 ), o-methoxyphenyl ( 4 ), or tetrahydrofurfuryl ( 5 ), were synthesized, characterized, and tested as catalyst precursors for the syndiospecific polymerization of styrene. These precursors were more active than (η5-cyclopentadienyl)trichlorotitanium (CpTiCl3). The different structures of the alkoxyl ligands affected the activity slightly. When the polymerization was carried out in bulk, all the complexes ( 1–5 ) exhibited high activities, even at the low molar ratio of Al/Ti = 300. The syndiotactic polystyrene (s-PS) percentage of the polymer produced by alkoxyl-substituted complexes was much higher than that of CpTiCl3. The really active center might be described as [CpTiMe]+ · [MAOX] · nMAO (where MAO is methylaluminoxane). The normal active species [CpTiMe]+ made up the core and the anion mass [MAOX] · nMAO surrounded the core and constituted the outer shell circumstance. They activated the syndiospecific polymerization of styrene as a whole. For a high concentration of MAO, the function of the alkoxyl group was weak because of the limited proportion in the outer shell. For a low concentration of MAO, the proportion of alkoxyl ligands in the outer shell increased greatly, and their influence also became significant, as reflected in a higher s-PS percentage of the obtained polymer. The existence of the additional oxygen atom in the alkoxyl ligand stabilized the active species more effectively; this was reflected in the higher temperature of the maximum activities. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Solution structures of bis(phenoxy-imine) group 4 transition metal complexes (FI Catalysts) were investigated using 1H NMR spectroscopy. At least two isomers exist in equilibrium for FI Catalysts precursors, bis[N-(3-tert-butylsalicylidene)anilinato]zirconium(IV) dichloride ( 1 ), and bis[N-(3,5-dicumylsalicylidene)anilinato]zirconium(IV) dichloride ( 2 ), while bis[N-(3-tert-butylsalicylidene)-2,3,4,5,6-pentafluoroanilinato]titanium(IV) dichloride ( 3 ) exhibits only one isomer under the conditions examined. Upon activation with MAO, all FI Catalysts ( 1-3 ) generate two species at ambient temperature judging from some key signals in the 1H NMR. When temperature is raised (up to 75°C), one species ( 1a-3a ) converts irreversibly to the other species ( 1b-3b ). The resulting species, 1b-3b , are stereochemically rigid, in contrast to precursors 1 and 2 . Species 3b , derived from a living FI Catalyst, exhibited virtually no reactivity toward olefin insertion. The imine protons of species 1b-3b are temperature and solvent polarity sensitive. Two possibilities are proposed for the assignment of species 1b-3b, i) heterobinuclear complexes of group 4 metal and alkylaluminum with methyl and/or chlorine as bridging groups and ii) phenoxy-imine ligated aluminum complexes whose ligands are transferred from the group 4 metal. The latter is more probable from the separate synthesis of LAlMe2 (L: phenoxy-imine ligand). When 3 was activated with MAO in the presence of olefins, a new imine signal was observed. This species ( 3c for ethylene and 3d for propylene) is thermally more robust than 3a toward transformation to 3b and assignable to the living propagating species.  相似文献

A series of highly active ethylene polymerization catalysts based on bidendate α‐diimine ligands coordinated to nickel are reported. The ligands are prepared via the condensation of bulky ortho‐substituted anilines bearing remote push–pull substituents with acenaphthenequinone, and the precatalysts are prepared via coordination of these ligands to (DME)NiBr2 (DME = 1,2‐dimethoxyethane) to form complexes having general formula [ZN = C(An)‐C(An) = NZ]NiBr2 [Z = (4‐NH2‐3,5‐C6H2R2)2CH(4‐C6H4Y); An, acenaphthene quinone; R, Me, Et, iPr; Y = H, NO2, OCH3]. When activated with methylaluminoxane (MAO) or common alkyl aluminiums such as ethyl aluminium sesquichloride (EAS) all catalysts polymerize ethylene with activities exceeding 107 g‐PE/ mol‐Ni h atm at 30 °C and atmospheric pressure. Among the cocatalysts used EAS records the best activity. Effects of remote substituents on ethylene polymerization activity are also investigated. The change in potential of metal center induced by remote substituents, as evidenced by cyclic voltammetric measurements, influences the polymerization activity. UV–visible spectroscopic data have specified the important role of cocatalyst in the stabilization of nickel‐based active species. A tentative interpretation based on the formation of active and dormant species has been discussed. The resulting polyethylene was characterized by high molecular weight and relatively broad molecular weight distribution, and their microstructure varied with the structure of catalyst and cocatalyst. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of novel vanadium(III) complexes bearing tridentate phenoxy‐phosphine [O,P,O] ligands and phosphine oxide‐bridged bisphenolato [O,P?O,O] ligands, which differ in the steric and electronic properties, have been synthesized and characterized. These complexes were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and mass spectra as well as elemental analysis. Single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction revealed that complexes 3c and 4e adopt an octahedral geometry around the vanadium center. In the presence of Et2AlCl as a cocatalyst, these complexes displayed high catalytic activities up to 22.8 kg PE/mmolV.h.bar for ethylene polymerization, and produced high‐molecular‐weight polymers. Introducing additional oxygen atom on phosphorus atom of [O,P,O] ligands has resulted in significant changes on the aspect of steric/electronic effect, which has an impact on polymerization performance. 3c and 4c /Et2AlCl catalytic systems were tolerant to elevated temperature (70 °C) and yielded unimodal polyethylenes, indicating the single‐site behavior of these catalysts. By pretreating with equimolar amounts of alkylaluminums, functional α‐olefin 10‐undecen‐1‐ol can be efficiently incorporated into polyethylene chains. 10‐Undecen‐1‐ol incorporation can easily reach 14.6 mol % under the mild conditions. Other reaction parameters that influenced the polymerization behavior, such as reaction temperature, Al/V (molar ratio), and comonomer concentration, are also examined in detail. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Norbornene polymerizations proceeded in toluene with bis(β‐ketoamino)nickel(II) {Ni[CH3C(O)CHC(NR)CH3]2 [R = phenyl ( 1 ) or naphthyl ( 2 )]} complexes as the catalyst precursors and the organo‐Lewis compound tris(pentafluorophenyl)borane [B(C6F5)3] as a unique cocatalyst. The polymerization conditions, such as the cocatalyst/catalyst ratio (B/Ni), catalyst concentration, monomer/catalyst ratio (norbornene/Ni), polymerization temperature, and polymerization time, were studied in detail. Both bis(β‐ketoamino)nickel(II)/B(C6F5)3 catalytic systems showed noticeably high conversions and activities. The polymerization activities were up to 3.64 × 107 g of polymer/mol of Ni h for complex 1 /(B(C6F5)3 and 3.80 × 107 g of polymer/mol of Ni h for complex 2 /B(C6F5)3, and very high conversions of 90–95% were maintained; both polymerizations provided high‐molecular‐weight polynorbornenes with molecular weight distributions (weight‐average molecular weight/number‐average molecular weight) of 2.5–3.0. The achieved polynorbornenes were confirmed to be vinyl‐addition and atactic polymers through the analysis of Fourier transform infrared, 1H NMR, and 13C NMR spectra, and the thermogravimetric analysis results showed that the polynorbornenes exhibited good thermal stability (decomposition temperature > 410 °C). © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Based on new results as well as the reported data, the ethylene and propylene polymerization behavior of bis(phenoxy-imine) Ti complexes (Ti-FI Catalysts) combined with MAO (particularly that of their fluorinated versions) is discussed, with an emphasis on the characteristics and mechanisms of living ethylene and syndioselective living propylene polymerization. Unlike common living olefin polymerization catalysts, fluorinated Ti-FI Catalysts with MAO display thermally robust living behavior and polymerize ethylene in a highly controlled manner at temperatures as high as 50 °C. Additionally, despite being C2-symmetric catalysts, fluorinated Ti-FI Catalysts/MAO mediate highly syndioselective living propylene polymerization. Fluorinated Ti-FI Catalysts that we developed are the first examples of catalysts that induce the living polymerization of both ethylene and propylene. In addition, they are also the first examples of living and, at the same time, highly stereoselective propylene polymerization catalysts. The versatile and robust living nature of the fluorinated Ti-FI Catalysts allows the preparation of a wide variety of unique living polymers; some of which can even be produced catalytically. On the basis of theoretical calculations as well as experimental results, we conclude that these unusual polymerization features of fluorinated Ti-FI Catalysts originate from an attractive interaction between the ligand and a growing polymer chain and/or the fluxional character of the catalyst coupled with 2,1-regiochemistry. This is in stark contrast to group 4 metallocene catalysts, which control olefin polymerization mainly by repulsive interactions based on the rigidly organized ligand frameworks.  相似文献

New double silylene‐bridged binuclear zirconium complexes [(η5‐RC5H4)ZrCl2]2[μ,μ‐(SiMe2)25‐C5H3)2] [R = H ( 1 ), Me ( 2 ), nPr ( 3 ), iPr ( 4 ), nBu ( 5 ), allyl ( 6 ), 3‐butenyl ( 7 ), benzyl ( 8 ), PhCH2CH2 ( 9 ), MeOCH2CH2 ( 10 )] were synthesized by the reaction of (η5‐RC5H4)ZrCl3·DME with [μ,μ‐(SiMe2)25‐C5H3)2]2? ( L2? ) in THF, and they were all well characterized by 1H NMR, MS, IR, and EA. The binuclear structure of Complex 3 was further confirmed by X‐ray diffraction, where the two zirconium centers are located trans relative to the bridging [μ,μ‐(SiMe2)25‐C5H3)2] moiety. When activated with methylaluminoxane (MAO), this series of zirconium complexes are highly active catalysts for the polymerization of ethylene even under very low molar ratio of Al/Zr (Complex 7 , 5.41 × 105 g‐PE/mol‐Zr·h, Al/Zr = 50) and linear polyethylenes (PEs) with broad molecular weight distribution (MWD, Mw/Mn = 7.31–27.6) was obtained. The copolymerization experiments indicate that these complexes are also very efficient in the incorporation of 1‐hexene into the growing PE chain in the presence of MAO (Complex 6 , 3.59 × 106 g‐PE/mol‐Zr·h; 1‐hexene content, 3.65%). © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This study focuses on the kinetics of ethylene/propylene (homo/co) polymerization reactions using a high activity TiCl4/MgCl2/AlEt3 catalyst. The reactor system is a gas phase reactor equipped with an on-line composition control scheme. As such, important kinetic data such as the instantaneous reaction rate of each monomer is readily obtained. In the investigation, experiments are performed to study the effects of comonomer composition variations, temperature variations, hydrogen concentration variations, and variations in the Al/Ti ratio. It is observed that the ethylene and propylene instantaneous reaction rates show a rather peculiar pattern with the appearance of a second peak. Our work linked the existence of this peak to the Al/Ti ratio used. A theory based on the oxidation state change is proposed. This theory is also used to explain the effects of temperature changes and hydrogen concentration changes on the system. A variety of analytical techniques are employed to study the polymer properties and evidence is provided to support the existence of polymer partial melting at relatively high reaction temperatures. The resulting diffusion limitation is believed to be partially responsible for the observed activity decrease at such elevated temperatures. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Styrene has been polymerized by a Quinone Transfer Radical Polymerization (QTRP) based on the redox reaction of an ortho‐quinone and a metal catalyst. Several metal acetylacetonates have been tested in this work. The radical polymerization of styrene is largely controlled when phenanthrenequinone (PhQ) is used with catalytic amounts of Co(acac)2, Ni(acac)2, Mn(acac)2 or 3, and Al(acac)3. As a rule, in the presence of all these metallic complexes, the polystyrene molar mass increases with the monomer conversion, and polydispersity (Mw/Mn) is in the 1.3–1.6 range (at least until 40% monomer conversion). Styrene polymerization has also been resumed by polystyrene chains prepared by QTRP. In the specific case of manganese acetylacetonates, an amine or phosphine ligand has to be added for the control to be effective. Finally, two mechanistic hypotheses have been proposed, depending on whether the oxidation state of the metal can be easily changed or not. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
