The use of the stretched-exponential function to represent both the relaxation function g(t)=(G(t)-G )/(G 0-G ) and the retardation function r(t) = (J +t/η-J(t))/(J -J 0) of linear viscoelasticity for a given material is investigated. That is, if g(t) is given by exp (?(t/τ)β), can r(t) be represented as exp (?(t/λ)µ) for a linear viscoelastic fluid or solid? Here J(t) is the creep compliance, G(t) is the shear modulus, η is the viscosity (η?1 is finite for a fluid and zero for a solid), G is the equilibrium modulus G e for a solid or zero for a fluid, J is 1/G e for a solid or the steady-state recoverable compliance for a fluid, G 0= 1/J 0 is the instantaneous modulus, and t is the time. It is concluded that g(t) and r(t) cannot both exactly by stretched-exponential functions for a given material. Nevertheless, it is found that both g(t) and r(t) can be approximately represented by stretched-exponential functions for the special case of a fluid with exponents β=µ in the range 0.5 to 0.6, with the correspondence being very close with β=µ=0.5 and λ=2τ. Otherwise, the functions g(t) and r(t) differ, with the deviation being marked for solids. The possible application of a stretched-exponential to represent r(t) for a critical gel is discussed.  相似文献

A transient molecular network model is built to describe the nonlinear viscoelasticity of polymers by considering the effect of entanglement loss and regeneration on the relaxation of molecular strands. It is an extension of previous network theories. The experimental data on three thermoplastic polymers (ABS, PVC and PA6) obtained under various loading conditions are used to test the model. Agreement between the theoretical and experimental curves shows that the suggested model can describe successfully the relaxation behavior of the thermoplastic polymers under different loading rates by using relatively few relaxation modes. Thus the micromechanism responsible for strain-rate dependence of relaxation process and the origin of nonlinear viscoelasticity may be disclosed. The nonlinear strain measure of a polyisobutylene (PIB) melt as determined by analysis of uniaxial, planar, ellipsoidal, and equibiaxial extensions is compared to the predictions of the molecular model of Doi and Edwards. It is found that the universal strain function of the Doi-Edwards model is unable to predict the nonlinear behavior of this polymer melt in general extensional flow. The qualitative agreement between predictions and experimental data for the strain dependence of shear stress and first normal stress difference in shear flow that was considered as powerful evidence for the correctness of the Doi-Edwards model seems to be accidental. The exaggerated strain dependence of the model suggests a need to reconsider the assumptions concerning the chain retraction process.Presented at the Golden Jubilee Conference of the British Society of Rheology and Third European Rheology Conference, Edinburgh, 3–7 September, 1990.Dedicated to Professor F.R. The linear viscoelastic behavior of a soda-lime-silica glass under low frequency shear loading is investigated in the glass transition range. Using the time-temperature superposition technique, the master curves of the shear dynamic relaxation moduli are obtained at a reference temperature of 566°C. A method to determine the viscoelastic constants from dynamic relaxation moduli is proposed. However, some viscoelastic constants cannot be directly measured from the experimental curves and others cannot be precisely obtained due to non-linearity effects at very low frequencies. The generalized Maxwell model is investigated from the experimental dynamic moduli without fixing the viscoelastic constants. A set of parameters is shown to be in good agreement with the experimental dynamic relaxation moduli, but does not give the correct values of the viscoelastic constants of the investigated glass. The soda-lime-silica glass exhibits a non-linear viscoelastic behavior at very low stress level which is usually observed for organic glasses. This non-linear behavior is questioned.  相似文献

Suitably defined invariants of the logarithmic strain are shown to be more adequate than the usual invariants of the left Cauchy-Green tensor to define the type and intensity of a strain applied to hyperelastic rubber-like materials. Coupling these invariants with the macromolecular full-network model clarifies some features of the state of strain dependence of these materials. Finally, comparisons of the model with experimental data illustrate the efficiency of the full-network model and the dependence of the material parameters on the applied loading history.  相似文献

Motivated by the aero-acoustic feedback loop phenomenon in high speed free jets and impinging jets, a thorough examination of a POD (Proper Orthogonal Decomposition)-Galerkin method to determine the average convection velocity of coherent structures in the shear layer is presented in this paper. The technique is shown to be applicable to both time resolved as well as time unresolved data, if the data set meets certain requirements. Using a detailed sensitivity analysis on a synthetic data set, a quantitative estimate on the required time resolution for the technique has been found, which can be useful for both experimental, as well as numerical studies investigating the aero-acoustic feedback loop in high speed flows. Moreover, some innovative ways to apply the technique are also demonstrated using a simulated data set, showing the effectiveness of the technique to any general problem in supersonic jets, heat transfer, combustion or other areas in fluid mechanics, where an advection process can be identified.  相似文献

This paper proposes a systematic method, inte-grating the uniform design(UD)of experiments and quantum-behaved particle swarm optimization(QPSO),to solve the problem of a robust design for a railway vehicle suspension system. Based on the new nonlinear creep model derived from combining Hertz contact theory, Kalker's linear the-ory and a heuristic nonlinear creep model, the modeling and dynamic analysis of a 24 degree-of-freedom railway vehi-cle system were investigated. The Lyapunov indirect method was used to examine the effects of suspension parameters, wheel conicities and wheel rolling radii on critical hunting speeds.Generally, the critical hunting speeds of a vehicle sys-tem resulting from worn wheels with different wheel rolling radii are lower than those of a vehicle system having origi-nal wheels without different wheel rolling radii.Because of worn wheels, the critical hunting speed of a running rail-way vehicle substantially declines over the long term. For safety reasons,it is necessary to design the suspension sys-tem parameters to increase the robustness of the system and decrease the sensitive of wheel noises.By applying UD and QPSO,the nominal-the-best signal-to-noise ratio of the sys-tem was increased from?48.17 to?34.05 dB.The rate of improvement was 29.31%.This study has demonstrated that the integration of UD and QPSO can successfully reveal the optimal solution of suspension parameters for solving the robust design problem of a railway vehicle suspension sys-tem.  相似文献
