Time-dependent analysis of M/G/1 vacation models with exhaustive service   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We analyze the time-dependent process in severalM/G/1 vacation models, and explicitly obtain the Laplace transform (with respect to an arbitrary point in time) of the joint distribution of server state, queue size, and elapsed time in that state. Exhaustive-serviceM/G/1 systems with multiple vacations, single vacations, an exceptional service time for the first customer in each busy period, and a combination ofN-policy and setup times are considered. The decomposition property in the steady-state joint distribution of the queue size and the remaining service time is demonstrated.  相似文献

We introduce a simple approach for modeling and analyzing a SII/G/I queue where the server may take repeated vacations. Whenever a busy period ends the server takes a vacation of random duration. At the end of each vacation the server may either take a new vacation or resume service; if the queue is found empty the server always takes a new vacation. Furthermore, the queuing system allows Bernoulli feedback of customers. Three classes of service disciplines, random gated, 1-limited and exhaustive, are considered. The random gated service discipline generalizes several known service disciplines. The customers arrival process is assumed to be a Levy process (i.e., satisfies the stationary and independent increments (SII property). We obtain explicit expressions for several performance measures of the system. These performance measures include the mean and second moment of the cycle time, the mean queue length at the beginning of a cycle of service and the expected delay observed by a customer. Furthermore, our analysis provides a uniform method to get several results previously obtained by Baba, Chiarawongse and Sriniwasan, and Takine, Takagi and Hasegawa.  相似文献

The paper investigates the queueing process in stochastic systems with bulk input, batch state dependent service, server vacations, and three post-vacation disciplines. The policy of leaving and entering busy periods is hysteretic, meaning that, initially, the server leaves the system on multiple vacation trips whenever the queue falls below r (⩾1), and resumes service when during his absence the system replenishes to N or more customers upon one of his returns. During his vacation trips, the server can be called off on emergency, limiting his trips by a specified random variable (thereby encompassing several classes of vacation queues, such as ones with multiple and single vacations). If by then the queue has not reached another fixed threshold M (⩽ N), the server enters a so-called “post-vacation period” characterized by three different disciplines: waiting, or leaving on multiple vacation trips with or without emergency. For all three disciplines, the probability generating functions of the discrete and continuous time parameter queueing processes in the steady state are obtained in a closed analytic form. The author uses a semi-regenerative approach and enhances fluctuation techniques (from his previous studies) preceding the analysis of queueing systems. Various examples demonstrate and discuss the results obtained. This revised version was published online in June 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

We consider a finite buffer batch service queueing system with multiple vacations wherein the input process is Markovian arrival process (MAP). The server leaves for a vacation as soon as the system empties and is allowed to take repeated (multiple) vacations. The service- and vacation- times are arbitrarily distributed. We obtain the queue length distributions at service completion, vacation termination, departure, arbitrary and pre-arrival epochs. Finally, some performance measures such as loss probability, average queue lengths are discussed. Computational procedure has been given when the service- and vacation- time distributions are of phase type (PH-distribution).  相似文献

Abstract

This article concerns a Geo/G/1/∞ queueing system under multiple vacations and setup-closedown times. Specifically, the operation of the system is as follows. After each departure leaving an empty system, the server is deactivated during a closedown time. At the end of each closedown time, if at least a customer is present in the system, the server begins the service of the customers (is reactivated) without setup; however, if the system is completely empty, the server takes a vacation. At the end of each vacation, if there is at least a customer in the system, the server requires a startup time (is reactivated) before beginning the service of the customers; nevertheless, if there are not customers waiting in the system, the server takes another vacation. By applying the supplementary variable technique, the joint generating function of the server state and the system length together with the main performance measures are derived. We also study the length of the different busy periods of the server. The stationary distributions of the time spent waiting in the queue and in the system under the FCFS discipline are analysed too. Finally, a cost model with some numerical results is presented.  相似文献

This paper deals with an MX/G/1 queueing system with a vacation period which comprises an idle period and a random setup period. The server is turned off each time when the system becomes empty. At this point of time the idle period starts. As soon as a customer or a batch of customers arrive, the setup of the service facility begins which is needed before starting each busy period. In this paper we study the steady state behaviour of the queue size distributions at stationary (random) point of time and at departure point of time. One of our findings is that the departure point queue size distribution is the convolution of the distributions of three independent random variables. Also, we drive analytically explicit expressions for the system state probabilities and some performance measures of this queueing system. Finally, we derive the probability generating function of the additional queue size distribution due to the vacation period as the limiting behaviour of the MX/M/1 type queueing system. In this study, we consider an M/M/c retrial queue with Bernoulli vacation under a single vacation policy. When an arrived customer finds a free server, the customer receives the service immediately; otherwise the customer would enter into an orbit. After the server completes the service, the server may go on a vacation or become idle (waiting for the next arriving, retrying customer). The retrial system is analysed as a quasi-birth-and-death process. The sufficient and necessary condition of system equilibrium is obtained. The formulae for computing the rate matrix and stationary probabilities are derived. The explicit close forms for system performance measures are developed. A cost model is constructed to determine the optimal values of the number of servers, service rate, and vacation rate for minimizing the total expected cost per unit time. Numerical examples are given to demonstrate this optimization approach. The effects of various parameters in the cost model on system performance are investigated.  相似文献

We define and analyze anM/G/1/N vacation model that uses a service discipline that we call theE-limited with limit variation discipline. According to this discipline, the server provides service until either the system is emptied (i.e. exhausted) or a randomly chosen limit ofl customers has been served. The server then goes on a vacation before returning to service the queue again. The queue length distribution and the Laplace-Stieltjes transforms of the waiting time, busy period and cycle time distributions are found. Further, an expression for the mean waiting time is developed. Several previously analyzed service disciplines, including Bernoulli scheduling, nonexhaustive service and limited service, are special cases of the general varying limit discipline that is analyzed in this paper.  相似文献

This paper deals with a generalized M/G/1 feedback queue in which customers are either “positive" or “negative". We assume that the service time distribution of a positive customer who initiates a busy period is G e (x) and all subsequent positive customers in the same busy period have service time drawn independently from the distribution G b (x). The server is idle until a random number N of positive customers accumulate in the queue. Following the arrival of the N-th positive customer, the server serves exhaustively the positive customers in the queue and then a new idle period commences. This queueing system is a generalization of the conventional N-policy queue with N a constant number. Explicit expressions for the probability generating function and mean of the system size of positive customers are obtained under steady-state condition. Various vacation models are discussed as special cases. The effects of various parameters on the mean system size and the probability that the system is empty are also analysed numerically.

We consider finite buffer single server GI/M/1 queue with exhaustive service discipline and multiple working vacations. Service times during a service period, service times during a vacation period and vacation times are exponentially distributed random variables. System size distributions at pre-arrival and arbitrary epoch with some important performance measures such as, probability of blocking, mean waiting time in the system etc. have been obtained. The model has potential application in the area of communication network, computer systems etc. where a single channel is allotted for more than one source.  相似文献

We consider a discrete time single server queueing system in which arrivals are governed by the Markovian arrival process. During a service period, all customers are served exhaustively. The server goes on vacation as soon as he/she completes service and the system is empty. Termination of the vacation period is controlled by two threshold parameters N and T, i.e. the server terminates his/her vacation as soon as the number waiting reaches N or the waiting time of the leading customer reaches T units. The steady state probability vector is shown to be of matrix-geometric type. The average queue length and the probability that the server is on vacation (or idle) are obtained. We also derive the steady state distribution of the waiting time at arrivals and show that the vacation period distribution is of phase type.  相似文献

We study a discrete-time GI/Geo/1 queue with server vacations. In this queueing system, the server takes vacations when the system does not have any waiting customers at a service completion instant or a vacation completion instant. This type of discrete-time queueing model has potential applications in computer or telecommunication network systems. Using matrix-geometric method, we obtain the explicit expressions for the stationary distributions of queue length and waiting time and demonstrate the conditional stochastic decomposition property of the queue length and waiting time in this system.  相似文献

We consider a finite buffer single server queue with batch Markovian arrival process (BMAP), where server serves a limited number of customer before going for vacation(s). Single as well as multiple vacation policies are analyzed along with two possible rejection strategies: partial batch rejection and total batch rejection. We obtain queue length distributions at various epochs and some important performance measures. The Laplace–Stieltjes transforms of the actual waiting time of the first customer and an arbitrary customer in an accepted batch have also been obtained.  相似文献

We consider an infinite-buffer single server queue where arrivals occur according to a batch Markovian arrival process (BMAP). The server serves until system emptied and after that server takes a vacation. The server will take a maximum number H of vacations until either he finds at least one customer in the queue or the server has exhaustively taken all the vacations. We obtain queue length distributions at various epochs such as, service completion/vacation termination, pre-arrival, arbitrary, departure, etc. Some important performance measures, like mean queue lengths and mean waiting times, etc. have been obtained. Several other vacation queueing models like, single and multiple vacation model, queues with exceptional first vacation time, etc. can be considered as special cases of our model.  相似文献

Many service systems are appointment-driven. In such systems, customers make an appointment and join an external queue (also referred to as the “waiting list”). At the appointed date, the customer arrives at the service facility, joins an internal queue and receives service during a service session. After service, the customer leaves the system. Important measures of interest include the size of the waiting list, the waiting time at the service facility and server overtime. These performance measures may support strategic decision making concerning server capacity (e.g. how often, when and for how long should a server be online). We develop a new model to assess these performance measures. The model is a combination of a vacation queueing system and an appointment system.  相似文献

This paper deals with the steady state behaviour of an Mx/G/1 queue with general retrial time and Bernoulli vacation schedule for an unreliable server, which consists of a breakdown period and delay period. Here we assume that customers arrive according to compound Poisson processes. While the server is working with primary customers, it may breakdown at any instant and server will be down for short interval of time. Further concept of the delay time is also introduced. The primary customer finding the server busy, down or vacation are queued in the orbit in accordance with FCFS (first come first served) retrial policy. After the completion of a service, the server either goes for a vacation of random length with probability p or may continue to serve for the next customer, if any with probability (1 − p). We carry out an extensive analysis of this model. Finally, we obtain some important performance measures and reliability indices of this model.  相似文献
