Oxidation and reduction behaviors of Au nanoparticles with different sizes on highly ordered pyrolytic graphite (HOPG) and silica were studied using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). For Au nanoparticles smaller than 6 nm in diameter, we found a novel oxygen species formed in Au nanoparticles, which is absent in larger particles and Au bulk crystals. This new oxygen species is attributed to the subsurface oxygen: for a complete understanding of the structures of catalytically active Au, the new oxygen species should be taken into account. In this context, it is worth mentioning that the subsurface oxygen species has been suggested to play an important role in heterogeneous catalysis. With decreasing Au particle size, a positive core level shift can be observed, which can be mostly attributed to the final state effects. Increase of the number of undercoordinated atoms with decreasing particle size is evidenced by a reduced splitting between 5d3/2 and 5d5/2 states and a band narrowing. Our results on electronic structures of Au nanoparticles on silica are compared to those on other substrates such as zirconia and titania to shed light onto the metal-support interactions.  相似文献

We report on the synthesis and spectroscopic characterization of well-defined hybrid structures that consist of a gold core overcoated with a silica shell, followed by a dense monolayer of CdSe nanocrystal quantum dots (QDs). The dielectric silica spacer of a controlled thickness provides a simple means for tuning interactions between the QD emitters and the metal core. To illustrate this tunability, we demonstrate switching between QD emission quenching and enhancement by varying the silica shell thickness. Synthetic procedures developed here employ a final step of self-assembly of QDs onto the silica shell performed via simple titration of the QD solution with prefabricated core/shell Au/SiO2 particles. This approach allows us to perform an accurate quantitative analysis of the effect of the metal on the QD emission intensity. One important result of this analysis is that nonuniformity of nonradiative rates across the QD ensemble has a significant effect on both the magnitude and the shell-thickness dependence of the emission enhancement/quenching factors.  相似文献

A three complementary strand oligonucleotide system was employed to assemble two different‐sized, 15 and 25 nm, Au nanoparticles into binary two‐dimensional (2D) structures. First, two non‐complementary strands of phosphate backbone modified oligonucleotides (PM oligo‐DNA) were loaded on the surface of the 15 and 25 nm Au nanoparticles, respectively. Upon the addition of the third linker DNA, which was half complementary to each of the modified DNA, the Au nanoparticles would be assembled to binary 2D aggregates. The number of the 15 nm Au nanoparticles around a 25 nm Au naoparticle can be readily controlled by the length of the DNA helix used.  相似文献

Spontaneous reduction of metal ions on the sidewalls of carbon nanotubes   总被引:8,自引:0,他引:8
Nanotube/nanoparticle hybrid structures are prepared by forming Au and Pt nanoparticles on the sidewalls of single-walled carbon nanotubes. Reducing agent or catalyst-free electroless deposition, which purely utilizes the redox potential difference between Au3+, Pt2+, and the carbon nanotube, is the main driving force for this reaction. It is also shown that carbon nanotubes act as a template for wire-like metal structures. The successful formation of the hybrid structures is monitored by atomic force microscopy (AFM) and electrical measurements.

With the rise of 2D materials, such as graphene and transition metal dichalcogenides, as viable materials for numerous experimental applications, it becomes more necessary to maintain fine control of their properties. One expedient and efficacious technique to regulate their properties is surface functionalization. In this study, DFT calculations are performed on triangular MoS2 quantum dots (QDs) either partially or completely doped with nanoparticles (NPs) of the noble metals Au, Ag, and Pt. The effects of these dopants on the geometry, electronic properties, magnetic properties, and chemical bonding of the QDs are investigated. The calculations show that the structural stability of the QDs is reduced by Au or Ag dopants, whereas Pt dopants have a contrasting effect. The NPs diminish the metallicity of the QD, the extent of which is contingent on the number of NPs adsorbed on the QD. However, these NPs exert distinctly disparate charge transfer effects—Ag NPs n‐dope the QDs, whereas Au and Pt NPs either n‐ or p‐dope. The molecular electrostatic potential maps of the occupied states show that metallic states are removed from the doping sites. Notwithstanding the decrease of magnetization in all three types of hybrid QD, the distribution of spin density in the Pt‐doped QD is inherently different from that in the other QDs. Bond analyses using the quantum theory of atoms in molecules and the crystal orbital Hamilton population suggest that bonds between the Pt NPs and the QDs are the most covalent and the strongest, followed by the Au?QD bonds, and then Ag?QD bonds. The versatility of these hybrid QDs is further examined by applying an external electric field in the three orthogonal orientations, and comparing their properties with those in the absence of the electric field. There are two primary observations: 1) dopants at the tail, head and tail, and in the fully encased configuration are most effective in modifying the distribution of metallic states if the electric field is absent, and 2) the metallic states in these aforementioned QDs are generally insensitive to the electric field. Conversely, the asymmetric electric effects on the charge transfer in these QDs have to be carefully monitored to allow finer control of their structural stability. This study aptly demonstrates the value of noble metal dopants for manipulating the properties of MoS2 QDs, and shows the versatility of these hybrid QDs as tunable nanodevices. This notably extends the functionality of these nanostructures for applications such as catalysis and nanoelectronics.  相似文献

Au nanoparticles grown on mildly sputtered Highly Ordered Pyrolytic Graphite (HOPG) surfaces were studied using Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (STM) and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS). The results were compared with those of Ag nanoparticles on the same substrate. By varying the defect densities of HOPG and the Au coverages, one can create Au nanoparticles in various sizes. At high Au coverages, the structures of the Au films significantly deviate from the ideal truncated octahedral form: the existence of many steps between different Au atomic layers can be observed, most likely due to a high activation barrier of the diffusion of Au atoms across the step edges. This implies that the particle growth at room temperature is strongly limited by kinetic factors. Hexagonal shapes of Au structures could be identified, indicating preferential growth of Au nanostructures along the (111) direction normal to the surface. In the case of Au, XPS studies reveal a weaker core level shift with decreasing particle size compared to the 3d level in similarly sized Ag particles. Also taking into account the Auger analysis of the Ag particles, the core level shifts of the metal nanoparticles on HOPG can be understood in terms of the metal/substrate charge transfer. Ag is (partially) positively charged, whereas Au negatively charged on HOPG. It is demonstrated that XPS can be a useful tool to study metal-support interactions, which plays an important role for heterogeneous catalysis, for example.  相似文献

Well-dispersed Au/Bi nanoparticles with average size below 10 nm were prepared by using NaBH4 to reduce HAuCl4 with glucose as dispersant. The obtained Au/Bi NPs were well characterized by UV-Vis spectra, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and electrochemical measurements. The electrochemical study found that Bi adlayers on the surface of Au nanoparticles owns two kinds of surface structures, including a low coverage (2 × 2)-Bi adlayer and a close-packed (p × √3)-2 Bi adlayer due to the strong interaction between the two Bi layers and the below Au atoms, which is same with that bulk on Au surface.  相似文献

A study is presented of the preparation of gold nanoparticles incorporated into biodegradable micelles. Poly(ethylene oxide)-b-poly(epsilon-caprolactone) (PEO-b-PCL) copolymer was synthesized by ring-opening polymerization, and the hydroxyl end group of the PCL block was modified with thioctic acid using dicyclohexyl carbodiimide as the coupling reagent. The PEO-b-PCL-thioctate ester (TE) thus obtained was used in a later step to form monolayer protected gold nanoparticles via the thioctate spacer. Gold nanoparticles stabilized with the PEO-b-PCL block (named Au/Block (x/y), where x/y is the mole feed ratio between HAuCl4 and PEO-b-PCL-TE) were prepared and analyzed. Au/Block (1/1), Au/Block (2/1), and Au/Block (3/1) nanoparticles were found to form stable dispersions in the organic solvents commonly used to dissolve the unlabeled block copolymer. The average diameter of the nanoparticles was determined by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and found to be 6+/-2 nm. Au/Block (4/1) nanoparticle dispersions in organic solvents, on the other hand, were not stable and produced large gold clusters (50-100 nm). Cluster formation was attributed to the low grafting density of the block copolymer, which facilitates agglomeration. For Au/Block (12/1), along the same trend, only an insoluble product was isolated. Micelles in water were prepared by the slow addition of the dilute Au/Block solution in dimethylformamide into a large excess of water with vigorous stirring. Au/Block (1/1) and Au/Block (2/1) formed nanosized structures of 5-7 nm. TEM images of stained Au/Block (1/1) micelles, made in water, clearly showed the formation of core-shell structures. Au/Block (3/1) micelles, on the other hand, were not stable and large agglomerates a few microns in size were observed. The study focuses on the synthesis, characterization, and aggregation behavior of gold-loaded PEO-b-PCL block copolymer micelles, a potential system for drug delivery in conjunction with tissue and subcellular localization studies.  相似文献

Electrostatically bonded SiO2.Au nanoparticle clusters form by reaction of 3-aminopropylsilane-modified SiO2 spheres (470 nm) with citrate-coated gold nanoparticles (9.7 nm) in water. Reaction of the clusters with 0.01 M KBr or HCl solution induces desorption of the gold nanoparticles within minutes. Reaction of the clusters with alkanethiols CnH2n+1SH (n = 2-18) at 80 degrees C causes the gold nanoparticles to form stringlike gold nanoparticle structures for thiols with short alkane groups (n = 2, 3, 4) and hexagonally packed arrays of gold nanoparticles for thiols with long alkane groups (n = 5-18) on the silica surfaces. The structural changes indicate that the bonding between Au and SiO2 nanoparticles has changed from electrostatic to van der Waals. Elemental analyses show that the reaction with hexanethiol does not affect the Au/Si/O composition of the SiO2.Au cluster, and Raman spectra on the hexanethiol-reacted cluster indicate the formation of a thiol SAM on the gold nanoparticles. The thiol-reacted SiO2.Au clusters display characteristic shifts of the absorption maxima in the visible spectra, and there is an inverse relation between these shifts and the lengths of the alkyl groups in the thiols. This relationship can be understood in terms of the free electron model for metals. The use of SiO2.Au nanoparticle clusters as coulometric sensors for the qualitative detection of thiols is discussed.  相似文献

Nucleic-acid-functionalized CdSe/ZnS quantum dots (QDs) were hybridized with the complementary Texas-Red-functionalized nucleic acid. The hybridization was monitored by following the fluorescence resonance energy transfer from the QDs to the dye units. Treatment of the QD/dye DNA duplex structure with DNase I resulted in the cleavage of the DNA and the recovery of the fluorescence properties of the CdSe/ZnS QDs. The luminescence properties of the QDs were, however, only partially recovered due to the nonspecific adsorption of the dye onto the QDs. Similarly, nucleic-acid-functionalized Au nanoparticles (Au NPs) were hybridized with the complementary Texas-Red-labeled nucleic acid. The hybridization was followed by the fluorescence quenching of the dye by the Au NPs. Treatment of the Au NP/dye DNA duplex with DNase I resulted in the cleavage of the DNA and the partial recovery of the dye fluorescence. The incomplete recovery of the dye fluorescence originated from the nonspecific binding of the dye units to the Au NPs. The nonspecific binding of the dye to the CdSe/ZnS QDs and the Au NPs is attributed to nonprotected surface vacancies in the two systems.  相似文献

The bimetallic Ag/Au nanoparticles were prepared by underpotential deposition-redox replacement technique on the basis of Au nanoparticles modified glassy carbon (GC) electrode. The as-prepared Ag/Au nanoparticles were characterized by scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The Ag/Au bimetallic nanoparticles modified GC electrode with low-Ag loading exhibits much better catalytic activity for the reduction of benzyl chloride than Ag nanoparticles modified GC electrode. The result is attributed to the synergic effect between Ag and Au in the reduction process. The chronoamperometry test shows that the Ag/Au nanoparticles possess long-term performance in the electrolysis.  相似文献

Customizing core-shell nanostructures is considered to be an efficient approach to improve the catalytic activity of metal nanoparticles. Various physiochemical and green methods have been developed for the synthesis of core-shell structures. In this study, a novel liquid-phase hydrogen reduction method was employed to form core-shell Pt@Au nanoparticles with intimate contact between the Pt and Au particles, without the use of any protective or structure-directing agents. The Pt@Au core-shell nanoparticles were prepared by depositing Au metal onto the Pt core; AuCl4− was reduced to Au(0) by H2 in the presence of Pt nanoparticles. The obtained Pt@Au core-shell structured nanoparticles were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), high-resolution TEM, fast Fourier transform, powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and H2-temperature programmed reduction (H2-TPR) analyses. The EDX mapping results for the nanoparticles, as obtained from their scanning transmission electron microscopy images in the high-angle annular dark-field mode, revealed a Pt core with Au particles grown on its surface. Fourier transform measurements were carried out on the high-resolution structure to characterize the Pt@Au nanoparticles. The lattice plane at the center of the nanoparticles corresponded to Pt, while the edge of the particles corresponded to Au. With an increase in the Au content, the intensity of the peak corresponding to Pt in the FTIR spectrum decreased slowly, indicating that the Pt nanoparticles were surrounded by Au nanoparticles, and thus confirming the core-shell structure of the nanoparticles. The XRD results showed that the peak corresponding to Pt shifted gradually toward the Au peak with an increase in the Au content, indicating that the Au particles grew on the Pt seeds; this trend was consistent with the FTIR results. Hence, it can be stated that the Pt@Au core-shell structure was successfully prepared using the liquid-phase hydrogen reduction method. The catalytic activity of the nanoparticles for the oxidation of toluene was evaluated using a fixed-bed reactor under atmospheric pressure. The XPS and H2-TPR results showed that the Pt1@Au1/Al2O3 catalyst had the best toluene oxidation activity owing to its lowest reduction temperature, lowest Au 4d & 4f and Pt 4d & 4f binding energies, and highest Au0/Auδ+ and Pt0/Pt2+ proportions. The Pt1@Au2Al2O3 catalyst showed high stability under dry and humid conditions. The good catalytic performance and high selectivity of Pt@Au/Al2O3 for toluene oxidation could be attributed to the high concentration of adsorbed oxygen species, good low-temperature reducibility, and strong interaction.  相似文献

Colloidal gold (Au) nanoparticles were prepared and successfully loaded on titanium(IV) oxide (TiO(2)) without change in the original particle size using a method of colloid photodeposition operated in the presence of a hole scavenger (CPH). The prepared Au nanoparticles supported on TiO(2) showed strong photoabsorption at around 550 nm due to surface plasmon resonance (SPR) of Au and exhibited a photocatalytic activity in mineralization of formic acid in aqueous suspensions under irradiation of visible light (>ca. 520 nm). A linear correlation between photocatalytic activity and the amount of Au loaded, that is, the number of Au nanoparticles, was observed, indicating that the activity of Au/TiO(2) plasmonic photocatalysts can be controlled simply by the amount of Au loading using the CPH method and that the external surface area of Au nanoparticles is a decisive factor in mineralization of formic acid under visible light irradiation. Very high reaction rates were obtained in samples with 5 wt % Au or more, although the rate tended to be saturated. The CPH method can be widely applied for loading of Au nanoparticles on various TiO(2) supports without change in the original size independent of the TiO(2) phase. The rate of CO(2) formation also increased linearly with increase in the external surface area of Au. Interestingly, the TiO(2) supports showed different slopes of the plots. The slope is important for selection of TiO(2) as a material supporting colloidal Au nanoparticles.  相似文献

Despite the wide use of carbon materials as supports for heterogeneous catalysis, generic labels are often used to describe the catalysts, i.e. Au/C, making comparisons between different Au/C catalysts difficult even for the same application. A variety of structures and chemically modified surfaces are in fact available, making gold nanoparticles supported on carbonaceous supports extremely versatile catalysts.  相似文献

The catalytic oxidation of alcohols with molecular oxygen on supported nanometallic catalysts represents one of the green methods in a crucial process for the synthesis of fine chemicals. We have designed an experiment using physically mixed Au/AC and Pd/AC (AC=activated carbon) as the catalyst in the liquid‐phase oxidation of benzyl alcohol by aerobic oxygen. The evolution of the physically mixed catalyst structures at different stages in the catalytic reaction was investigated by aberration‐corrected high‐resolution transmission electron microscopy and spatially resolved element mapping techniques at the nanometre scale, and they were also compared with the structure of the bimetallic alloy. For the first time we show the formation of surface Au–Pd bimetallic sites by reprecipitation of Pd onto Au nanoparticles. Negligible Au leaching was observed. The in situ structural evolution can be directly correlated to the great enhancement of the catalyst activity. Moreover, we distinguish the different behaviours of Au and Pd, thus suggesting an oxygen differentiating mechanism for Au and Pd sites. The findings are of great importance to both the understanding of the structure–activity correlation and the design of highly active catalysts in green chemistry.  相似文献

A sensitive immunosensor for the detection of pregnancy marker, human chorionic gonadotropin hormone (hCG), was developed using the direct electrical detection of Au nanoparticles. We utilized disposable screen‐printed carbon strips (SPCSs) for the development of our immunosensor, which provided cost‐effective tests with the required antigen sample volume as small as 2 μL. After the recognition reaction between the surface‐immobilized primary antibody and hCG, the captured antigen was sandwiched with a secondary antibody that was labeled with Au nanoparticles. Au nanoparticles were exposed to a preoxidation process at 1.2 V for 40 s, which was subsequently followed with a reduction scan on the same surface using differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). We could observe Au nanoparticle‐labeled antigen‐antibody complexes immobilized on the surface of SPCS using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Additionally, the number of Au nanoparticles on the immunosensor was determined using SEM images, and showed a linear relationship with the current intensity obtained from the DPV measurements with a detection limit of 36 pg/mL hCG (612 fM, 3.6×10?4 IU/mL). Our immunosensor system, a combination of the screen‐printing technology with Au nanoparticles provides a promising biosensor for various applications in life sciences.  相似文献

Large Au nanoparticles with an average size of approximately 10 nm supported on inert SiO(2) become active in low-temperature CO oxidation after the addition of NaNO(3). The catalyst structures have been characterized in detail by X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and X-ray absorption spectroscopy. The NaNO(3) additive in Au/SiO(2) catalysts does not lead to the formation of fine Au nanoparticles, which are generally considered to be inevitable in low-temperature CO oxidation catalyzed by gold, nor does it alter the electronic structure of Au. The NaNO(3)-induced restructuring of large Au nanoparticles was proposed to create low-coordinated Au sites on the surface capable of catalyzing low-temperature CO oxidation. These results experimentally prove that the activity of supported Au nanoparticles in low-temperature CO oxidation could solely arise from their geometric structure, which greatly deepens the fundamental understandings of Au nanocatalysis.  相似文献
