Raman spectra and fluorescence of BaTiO3 and silica microspheres of different sizes have been studied. The observed whispering gallery modes (WGMs) have been assigned using theoretical simulations based on the Lorenz–Mie theory. The WGMs are found to have selective enhancements in the Raman spectra. The variations in the Raman spectra with the radial position of the excitation spot and excitation wavelength have been correlated with the morphology‐dependent internal field distributions of the microspheres. The effect of a thin dye coating on the fluorescence and Raman spectra was studied, and a coating thickness of ∼200 nm was estimated from the theoretical simulation of experimentally observed data based on the Aden and Kerker theory. ReS2 has recently emerged as a new member in the rapidly growing family of two‐dimensional materials. Unlike MoS2 or WSe2, the optical and electrical properties of ReS2 are not isotropic due to the reduced symmetry of the crystal. Here, we present layer‐dependent Raman measurements of ReS2 samples ranging from monolayers to ten layers in the ultralow frequency regime. We observe layer breathing and shear modes which allow for easy assignment of the number of layers. Polarization‐dependent measurements give further insight into the crystal structure and reveal an energetic shift of the shear mode which stems from the in‐plane anisotropy of the shear modulus in this material. Over the last fifteen years, a series of theoretical and experimental investigations have demonstrated the usefulness of circular geometries to tailor second‐order nonlinear optical effects. However, until recently, such effects have remained rather weak, calling for their enhancement. In parallel, developments in the field of high quality factor spherical or ring resonators have shown that many different types of light‐matter interactions can be dramatically amplified when light is coupled in the whispering gallery modes of such resonators. In high‐quality spherical micro‐resonators, close to one million interactions can occur between a nonlinear molecule and a circulating light pulse. Recent research on nonlinear optics in spherical geometry is reviewed, from micrometer‐size spheres to whispering gallery mode resonators.  相似文献

This article aims to investigate the Raman modes present in Mn‐doped ZnO thin films that are deposited using the magnetron co‐sputtering method. A broad band ranging from 500 to 590 cm−1 is present in the Raman spectra of heavily Mn‐doped ZnO films. The multi‐peak‐fitting results show that this broad band may be composed of six peaks, and the peak at 528 cm−1 could be a characteristic mode of Mn2O3. The results of this study suggest that the origin of the Raman peaks in Mn‐doped ZnO films may be due to three major types: structural disorder and morphological changes caused by the Mn dopant, Mn‐related oxides and intrinsic host‐lattice defects. We have studied the coherent molecular vibrational dynamics of CH2 stretching modes in polyethylene by time‐resolved femtosecond coherent anti‐Stokes Raman spectroscopy. We observed that the coherent vibrational relaxation of symmetric CH2 stretching modes in polyethylene at room temperature is much faster than that previously measured in polyvinyl alcohol. In addition, it was detected that, at low temperature, the coherent vibrational relaxation of the symmetric stretching modes evidently becomes slower compared with that at room temperature. These temperature‐dependent measurements enable us to discriminate the contribution of pure dephasing mechanism, due to phonons and two‐level systems in polymer, from the contribution of lifetime of the vibrational excited state to the coherent vibrational relaxation of CH2 stretching modes. We conclude that the coherent vibrational relaxation of symmetric CH2 stretching modes at room temperature consists of the contribution of lifetime and approximately 1.5 times larger contribution of pure dephasing. Raman spectroscopic technique has been used to characterize a Ru/TiO2 catalyst and to follow in situ their structural changes during the CO selective methanation reaction (S‐MET). For a better comprehension of the catalytic mechanism, the in‐situ Raman study of the catalysts activation (reduction) process, the isolated CO and CO2 methanation reactions and the effect of the composition of the reactive stream (H2O and CO2 presence) have been carried out. Raman spectroscopy evidences that the catalyst is composed by islands of TiO2–RuO2 solid solutions, constituting Ru–TiO2 interphases in the form of RuxTi1 − xO2 rutile type solid solutions. The activation procedure with H2 at 300 °C promotes the reduction of the RuO2–TiO2 islands generating Ruo–Ti3+ centers. The spectroscopic changes are in agreement with the strong increase in chemical reactivity as increasing the carbonaceous intermediates observed. The selective methanation of CO proceeds after their adsorption on these Ruo–Ti3+ active centers and subsequent C―O dissociation throughout the formation of CHx/CnHx/CnHxO/CHx―CO species. These intermediates are transformed into CH4 by a combination of hydrogenation reactions. The formation of carbonaceous species during the methanation of CO and CO2 suggests that the CO presence is required to promote the CO2 methanation. Similar carbonaceous species are detected when the selective CO methanation is carried out with water in the stream. However, the activation of the catalysts occurs at much lower temperatures, and the carbon oxidation is favored by the oxidative effect of water. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

TiO2 aerogels prepared by sol‐gel method and followed by supercritical drying have been annealed at temperatures ranging between 400 and 550 °C. The obtained TiO2 anatase crystallites with the mean size between 6.4 and 13.9 nm, as obtained from transmission electron microscopy measurements, have been further investigated by Raman spectroscopy. It was found that the peak position and full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the TiO2 anatase Raman bands located around 144, 398, and 638 cm−1 are influenced by crystallite dimension. These spectral changes can be assigned to the combined action of several nanosize effects such as phonon confinement, phonon coupling, strain, and stoichiometry defects. Surprisingly, the best discrimination of the FWHM change with the nanocrystallite mean size was achieved for the 638 cm−1 band, whereas the best discrimination for the peak position was found for the 398 cm−1 band. The critical size values obtained from the peak position and FWHM evaluation were between 12.7 and 13.1 nm. Taking into consideration that only the phonon confinement and inhomogeneous strain can induce an asymmetric broadening of the Raman signal, the bands asymmetry was evaluated, and the critical size values of the nanocrystallites were determined to be between 10 and 11 nm. For a symmetric size distribution of TiO2 anatase crystallites with dimensions between 6.4 and 13.9 nm, the obtained result indicates that the phonon confinement contribution to the overall size effects is more than 75%. No evidence about the influence of the phonon coupling and vacancies on the Raman features was observed. The comparison of the data derived from the experimental analysis with those obtained by applying the theoretical phonon confinement model indicates the necessity of developing an improved phonon confinement model. The asymmetry approach can be applied for a great variety of nanostructures, as a measure of the confinement effect. Copyright © 2011 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Benzene adsorbed on highly acidic sulfated TiO2 (S‐TiO2) shows an intriguing resonance Raman (RR) effect, with excitation in the blue‐violet region. There are very interesting spectral features: the preferential enhancement of the e2g mode (1595 cm−1) in relation to the a1g mode (ring‐breathing mode at 995 cm−1) and the appearance of bands at 1565 and 1514 cm−1. The band at 1565 cm−1 is probably one of the components of the e2g split band, originally a doubly degenerate mode (8a, 8b) in neat benzene, and the band at 1514 cm−1 is assigned to the 19a mode, an inactive mode in neat benzene. These facts indicate a lowering of symmetry in adsorbed benzene, which may be caused by a strong interaction between S‐TiO2 and the benzene molecule with formation of a benzene to Ti (IV) charge transfer (CT) complex or by the formation of a benzene radical cation species. However, the RR spectra of the adsorbed benzene cannot be assigned to the benzene radical cation because the observed wavenumber of the ring‐breathing mode does not have the value expected for this species. Moreover, it was found by ESR measurements that the amount of radicals was very low, and so it was concluded that a CT complex is the species that originates the RR spectra. The most favorable intensification of the band at 1595 cm−1 in the RR spectra of benzene/S‐TiO2 at higher excitation energy corroborates this hypothesis, as an absorption band in this energy range, assigned to a CT transition, is observed. The study reports the observation of radial vibrational modes in ultra‐thin walled anatase TiO2 nanotube powders grown by rapid breakdown anodization technique using resonant Raman spectroscopic study. The as‐grown tubes in the anatase phase are around 2–5 nm in wall thickness, 15–18 nm in diameter and few microns in length. The Eg(ν1,ν5,ν6) phonon modes with molecular vibrations in the radial direction are predominant in the resonance Raman spectroscopy using 325 nm He–Cd excitation. Multi‐phonons including overtones and combinational modes of Eg(ν1,ν5,ν6) are abundantly observed. Fröhlich interaction owing to electron–phonon coupling in the resonance Raman spectroscopy of ultra‐thin wall nanotubes is responsible for the observation of radial vibrational modes. Finite size with large surface energy in these nanotubes energetically favor only one mode, B1g(ν4) with unidirectional molecular vibrations in the parallel configuration out of the three Raman modes with molecular vibration normal to the radial modes. Enhanced specific heat with increasing temperatures in these nanotubes as compared to that reported for nanoparticles of similar diameter may possibly be related to the presence of the prominent radial mode along with other energetic phonon mode. The findings elucidate the understanding of total energy landscape for TiO2 nanotubes. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Multi‐wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) produced by the arc discharge between two graphite rods in liquid nitrogen have been investigated with the use of Raman spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The effects of the applied voltage on the structural properties of the produced MWCNTs have been observed, in particular, as it concerns the size of the innermost and outermost diameters. The apparent discrepancies observed between the Raman and TEM results are explained through the observation of a selective response of the MWCNTs to the excitation laser energy in Raman spectroscopy, similar to the case of single‐wall CNTs. Electronic structure calculations correlate such behavior with optical transitions, in the presence of strong electronic localizations, spatially confined in a few neighboring walls. The surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) of molecules on TiO2 (Degussa P25) was investigated. The variation of trap density was carried out by the calcination of TiO2 at 350, 450 and 600°C. We found that the SERS intensity increases first, and then decreases with the calcination temperature rising from 350 to 450°C and 450 to 600°C, respectively. The measurements indicate that the trap density increases with the calcination temperature rising. The results indicate that the increase of trap density is favorable for the increase of SERS enhancement. The increase of SERS intensity from 350 to 450°C could be due to the dominated contribution from the trap density increase, and the decrease from 450 to 600°C could be due to dominated contribution from the increase of the crystallite size and the mass fraction of rutile phase. The energy diagram of RuO2/Al‐doped TiO2/RuO2 structures was estimated from the capacitance–voltage and leakage current density–voltage curves. The Al‐doping profile in TiO2 film was varied by changing position of the atomic layer deposition cycle of Al2O3 during the atomic layer deposition of 9 nm‐thick TiO2 film. The interface between the TiO2 film and the RuO2 electrode containing Al‐doping layer showed a higher Schottky barrier by 0.1 eV compared with the opposite interface without the doping layer. The evolution of various leakage current profiles upon increasing the bias with opposite polarity could be well explained by the asymmetric Schottky barrier. (© 2015 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH &Co. The temperature dependence of Raman spectra for SrBi2−xNdxNb2O9 ceramics (x from 0 to 0.2) has been studied in a wide temperature range from 80 to 873 K. It is found that the peak position of the A1g[Nb] phonon mode at 207 cm–1, which is directly associated with the distortion of NbO6 octahedron, decreases with increasing Nd composition, while the A1g[O] phonon mode at 835 cm–1 increases. Moreover, both the peak position and intensity of the A1g[Nb] phonon mode reveal strong anomalies around the ferroelectric to paraelectric phase transition temperature. It indicates that the phase transition temperature decreases from about 710 to 550 K with increasing Nd composition, which is due to the fact that the introduction of Nd ions in the Bi2O2 layers reduces the distortion extent of NbO6 octahedron. Through current efficiency measurements, obtained from the photoelectrochemical oxidation at TiO2 (rutile)/Ti anodes, further mechanistic information has been obtained regarding the TiO2 photosensitized oxidation of benzylic alcohols, ethers and 1,2‐diols in CH3CN. In deaerated medium, two electrons are captured by the semiconductor from all the considered substrates (one from the substrate, the second from the intermediate benzylic radical). In contrast, in aerated CH3CN, the number of TiO2‐captured electrons can be reduced to one because, depending on its oxidizability, the benzylic radical can be competitively captured by oxygen. Ni‐doped SnO2 nanoparticles, promising for gas‐sensing applications, have been synthesized by a polymer precursor method. X‐ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) data analyses indicate the exclusive formation of nanosized particles with rutile‐type phase (tetragonal SnO2) for Ni contents below 10 mol%. The mean crystallite size shows a progressive reduction with the Ni content. Room‐temperature Raman spectra of Ni‐doped SnO2 nanoparticles show the presence of Raman active modes and modes activated by size effects. From the evolution of the A1g mode with the Ni content, a solubility limit at ∼2 mol% was estimated. Below that content, Raman results are consistent with the occurrence of solid solution (ss) and surface segregation (seg.) of Ni ions. Above ∼2 mol% Ni, the redshift of A1g mode suggests that the surface segregation of Ni ions takes place. Disorder‐activated bands were determined and their integrated intensity evolution with the Ni content suggest that the solid‐solution regime favors the increase of disorder; meanwhile, that disorder becomes weaker as the Ni content is increased. We report on low‐temperature photoluminescence (PL) from aluminum oxide (Al2O3)‐passivated c‐Si wafers, which surprisingly exhibits clear signature of the formation of the so‐called electron–hole liquid (EHL), despite the use of excitation powers for which the condensed phase is not usually observed in bulk Si. The elevated incident photon densities achieved with our micro‐PL setup together with the relatively long exciton lifetimes associated with a good quality, indirect band‐gap semiconductor such as our float‐zone c‐Si, are considered the key aspects promoting photogenerated carrier densities above threshold. Interestingly, we observe a good correlation between the intensity of the EHL feature in PL spectra and the passivation performance of the Al2O3 layer annealed at different temperatures. The change in the extension of the sub‐surface space‐charge region that results from the balance between the induced fixed charge in the Al2O3 and the defect states at the alumina/Si interface is at the origin of the observed correlation. The optimized geometry and structural features of the most prospective electro‐optic crystal 4‐(N,N‐dimethylamino)‐N‐methyl‐4′‐toluene sulfonate (DAST), and the vibrational spectral investigations have been comprehensively described with the near infrared Fourier transform (NIR FT) Raman and Fourier transform infrared (FT‐IR) spectra supported by the density functional theoretical (DFT) computations to elucidate the contribution of vibrational modes to the linear electro‐optic (LEO) effect. Mulliken population analysis and natural bond orbital (NBO) analysis have also been carried out to analyze the effects of intramolecular charge transfer (ICT), intramolecular hydrogen bonding and hyperconjugative interactions on the geometries. The influence of CT interaction between the phenyl ring and the dimethylamino group of the nonlinear optical (NLO) chromophore on the endocyclic and exocyclic angles, and the electronic effects such as hyperconjugation and back‐donation on the methyl hydrogen atoms have been examined. The concurrent intense activation of Raman and IR activities of the effective conjugation vibrational coordinate, which significantly contributes to the LEO effect resulting from the strong electron–phonon (e/ph) coupling, has been analyzed in detail. The effects of frontier orbitals, highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) and lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO), transition of electron density (ED) transfer and the influence of planarity in the stilbazolium ring on the first hyperpolarizability are also discussed. The isotropic and anisotropic parts of the Raman spectra of NH2 bending and ν(CO) stretching modes of HCONH2 in a hydrogen‐bonding solvent, methanol, at different concentrations have been analyzed carefully in order to study the noncoincidence effect (NCE). In neat HCONH2, the experimentally measured values of noncoincidence Δνnc are ∼11 and ∼18 cm−1 for the NH2 bending and ν(CO) stretching modes, which reduce to 0.45 and 1.14 cm−1, respectively at the concentration of HCONH2 in mole fraction, χm = 0.1. The experimental results have been explained on the basis of two models, namely, the microscopic prediction of Logan and the macroscopic model of Mirone and Fini. The relative success of the two models in explaining the experimental data for both the modes have been discussed. It has been observed that in case of the ν(CO) stretching vibrational mode the Logan model can reproduce the experimental data rather precisely, whereas in the case of the NH2 bending mode, Mirone and Fini model yields more accurate results. Dimethyl 1,3‐dithiole‐2‐thione‐4,5‐dicarboxylate (DDTD) was synthesized and characterized using NMR, Fourier transform (FT)‐Raman, Fourier transform‐infrared (FT‐IR) and UV spectroscopies. Resonance Raman spectra (RRs) were obtained with 341.5, 354.7 and 368.9 nm excitation wavelengths and density functional calculations were carried out to elucidate the π (S C S) →π* (S C S) electronic transitions and the RRs of DDTD in cyclohexane solution. The RRs indicate that the Franck–Condon region photo dynamics have a multidimensional character with motion predominantly along the CS stretch and the C S symmetric stretch modes in the five‐member heterocycle. A preliminary resonance Raman intensity analysis was carried out and the results for DDTD were compared with previously reported results for 1,3‐dithiole‐2‐thione (DTT). Differences and similarities of the spectra in terms of molecular symmetry and electron density are also discussed. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献
