Energy losses of 200 eV to 2 keV electrons reflected from a disordered EuO(100) crystal show a bulk plasmon loss consistent with just less than six “quasi free” electrons per EuO unit, and 5p → nd resonance losses above the 5p threshold. The ratio of intensity of the 4d10 4fn0 → 4d9 4fn+1 “giant resonance” loss at 142 eV to the corresponding direct recombination feature varies with energy, while the direct recombination and related Auger channels show similar energy dependence.  相似文献

The electron energy loss spectra of clean and oxidised tin have been measured for primary energies in the range 100–1000 eV. The structure found for clean tin is similar to published spectra recorded with low primary energies except for the presence of a small peak at 4.7 eV. Differences between the reported volume plasmon energy recorded with low and high primary beam energies were noted and a model is presented to explain these differences in terms of plasmon dispersion.  相似文献

The electron energy loss spectrum of Br on Au (100) shows a sharp loss at 2.5 eV accompanied by a weaker broader feature at 5.5 eV and a broad enhancement centred at 16 eV. It is suggested that an adsorbate resonance lies above the top of the d-band allowing adsorbate → free metal state transitions without appreciable coupling to or competition from metal excitations.  相似文献

We present calculations based on a simplified band model of the spin-flip cross section expected in electron energy loss in a ferromagnetic metal. It is shown how direct production of Stoner excitations can lead to observable features in both spin polarized and ordinary EELS spectra. A strong primary electron energy dependence is predicted for all these spin-flip features, in agreement with recent experiments.  相似文献

The results of investigating the relative contribution of surface excitations to the reflection electron energy loss spectrum in pure silicon are presented. The primary electron energy is in the range 60–1000eV. Good agreement is obtained between the experimental values of the surface parameter P S and theoretical calculations. The relative contribution of surface excitations is also determined by decomposing the integral reflection electron energy loss spectra into Gaussian curves.  相似文献

In electron energy loss measurements (50 keV) on monocrystalline silver films in transmission the intensity of the 3.8 eV volume plasma loss is found to be dependent on the crystal orientation. If the crystal is tilted relatively to the electron beam by an angle α the elastic intensity Iel in the primary direction oscillates by 10%, the intensity of the volume plasmon however varies much stronger similar to Iel; it can become even zero at certain angles α. The intensity of the surface loss is nearly proportional to the elastic intensity. An explanation of this phenomenon is missing. Presumably it must lie in the dynamic theory of electron diffraction.  相似文献

The forward scattering energy loss spectrum of 300 KeV electrons transmitted through thin films of WO3 has been measured in the energy range of 0.8–225 eV with an energy loss resolution of 0.1 eV. Energy losses due to excitation of color centers, inter band transitions and core elestrons in WO3 have been identified. Measurement of the elastic electron difraction pattern revealed the amorphous nature of the film with structural differences depending upon the preparative methods.  相似文献

The double photoionization of helium at high photon energies is considered using a nonrelativistic approach. The central region of the energy spectrum and its contribution to the total process cross section and to the ratio between the double and single ionization cross sections are studied. Interelectronic interaction in the initial state is included exactly, whereas the interaction between the fast outgoing electrons is calculated by perturbation theory. A detailed derivation of the expression for the cross section ratio between double and single ionizations is given. The corresponding results obtained by other authors are analyzed and corrected.  相似文献

Semiconducting materials are employed in the fabrication of a number of semiconductor devices and opto-electronic detectors etc depending on their properties, state of purity and perfection and energy band gap values. In the present study, a latest and novel photoacoustic spectroscopic technique has been employed for the determination of energy band gap of some semiconductors namely CdS, CdSe, CdTe, ZnS, ZnO, Se and Si in the powder form. We analyse bend loss properties of a band gap-guided periodic structure, and give reasons for the effects found. In many cases, a tight bend produces only a slight reduction in power transmitted. We have demonstrated three beam non-degenerate reflected four-wave mixing (reflected FWM) in which two driving fields have the same photon energy (?ω1) and the monitor and the resulting mixed light fields have another equal photon energy (?ω2). Mixed light has been observed with the driving field's energy from Z3 exciton up to band gap energy when ?ω2 is fixed in the Z3 and Z1,2 exciton resonance region. The mechanism by which such non-degenerate optical non-linearity occurs is discussed according to a calculation by a simple model.  相似文献
