Using animals a study on the internal contamination by U ingestion is presented. Two rats of Wistar-London breed were contaminated at once and after different time intervals, 3 days and 10 days respectively, they were sacrified. Uranium biodistribution in the vital organs as well as the uranium retention and elimination was investigated using the fission track method. For the two contaminated subjects a comparison between obtained quantitative results is given.  相似文献

Shortly before the Second World War time, Nishina reported on a series of prominent nuclear physical and radiochemical studies in collaboration with Kimura. They artificially produced (231)Th, a member of the natural actinium series of nuclides, by bombarding thorium with fast neutrons. This resulted in the discovery of (237)U, a new isotope of uranium, by bombarding uranium with fast neutrons, and confirmed that (237)U disintegrates into element 93 with a mass number of 237. They also identified the isotopes of several middle-weighted elements produced by the symmetric fission of uranium. In this review article, the highlights of their work are briefly summarized along with some explanatory commentaries.  相似文献

The break-up of Western Gondwana Supercontinent was responsible in NW Namibia for significant tectono-thermal events at Early Cretaceous. In the Kaoko Belt and Walvis Basin, several evidences of this plate readjustment are registered: Etendeka Province, Great Escarpment Mountains, Precambrian structure reactivations, unconformities of surfaces in both continental area and margin basins. Apatite fission track thermochronology applied to the Kaoko basement rocks provides evidence of long-lived cooling history since the Early Cretaceous. The thermal modelings indicate accelerated uplift and/or upwarping of the local crust at followed by a gradual and continuous cooling history.  相似文献

Fission-track registration characteristics of Lexan solid state nuclear track detectors have been used to measure the fast neutron induced fission cross section of232Th. The fast neutrons (?14.2MeV) were produced with the help of an AN-400 model Van-de-Graaff accelerator at Banaras Hindu University laboratory using3H(2H,n)4He reaction and were used to irradiate the fissile target deposited on the plastic detector. The track densityT, registered on the plastic detector is related to the fission cross sectionσ f, through the relationT=knσ føt wheren is the number of fissile atoms per cm2 in the deposit, ø is the neutron flux,k is fission track registration efficiency andt is the time of irradiation. The fission cross sectionσ f of232Th, relative to the well measured fission cross section of238U, was found to be 0.36±0.04 barn.  相似文献

The use of epidote in fission track dating was abandoned since the beginning of the 1980s due to difficulties like absence of a standard etching procedure, obtainment of different closure temperatures and the percentage of the datable samples. The results become much more reproducible when restricting fission track analysis to a peculiar kind of track. We are also studying confined track length, what makes possible to obtain information about fossil track annealing. Fission tracks in epidote were successfully etched with 48% HF at for 12.5 min. Dating samples by the external detector method was not possible due to problems in measuring the efficiency factor held between the number of fossil fission tracks and tracks induced in mica. Dating a sample from Brejuí, RN, Brazil with the population method gave a corrected age of , in agreement with published U/Th–Pb ages. From the fact that the fossil track length histogram was bimodal, we were able to infer that this sample registered a thermal episode during its history.

These preliminary results indicate that epidote deserves further studies to establish whether it can be employed as a thermochronological tool.  相似文献

The angular distribution of fission fragments in alpha induced fission has been studied at an incident energy of 55 MeV in197Au target. The relative differential fission cross sections were measured at different angles between 10° and 170° and the resulting angular distributions fitted by least squares method with Legendre polynomials. In the present work, a correction for the self-scattering and self-absorption of fission fragments in the target itself was applied and a target of 3 mg/cm2 was used to get good statistics. The anisotropy for 55 MeV alpha induced fission of gold was 2·83±0·43 and the fission cross section calculated by integrating the measured angular distributions over all the solid angles was 5·2±1.0 mb, confirming the value of 4·0±0·05 mb reported by Burnettet al but contrary to the high value of 10±3 mb reported by Ralarosyet al.  相似文献

We have prepared a series of standard uranium glasses. A primary standard containing 41 ppm of added U had its concentration and isotope ratio verified by mass spectrometry and by fission track techniques. Secondary standards were compared to the primary standard using the fission track technique. These glasses are useful for measuring both Th and U in solids. The U concentration in an unknown is determined by comparing the fission track density induced by thermal neutron irradiation with the corresponding density in the standard. Th is measured by a cyclotron irradiation using the same U standards. The glasses are also useful for neutron dosimetry. Investigators may obtain small samples of most of these standards from R. H. Brill of the Corning Museum of Glass. Although most of the glasses were fabricated from depleted uranium, one standard containing natural uranium is available. A standard Th glass with concentration of 41 ppm was also made.  相似文献

Diallyl phthalate (DAP) resin plates were irradiated with fission fragments, and then etched in aqueous solution of KOH. Etched tracks were observed and counted by using an optical microscope. The detection efficiency of fission fragments was about 100% for both perpendicular and random incidence. DAP plates were insensitive to alpha particles and fast neutrons. These characteristics are suitable for detecting selected fission fragments, which coexist with alpha particles or fast neutrons. DAP plates are valuable for quantitative analysis of fissionable materials and neutron dosimetry. DAP and allyl diglycol carbonate (CR-39) were formed into copolymers in various ratios. The copolymers showed intermediate characteristics between DAP and CR-39. The fabrication of the copolymers made it possible to control the discrimination level for detection of heavy charged particles.  相似文献

This article describes our attempts since 1996 to systematically design and synthesize monomers and corresponding polymers for nuclear track detection. So far more than 15 homopolymers/copolymers have been prepared and tested by us for this purpose. Some of these polymers show better track detection characteristics vis-á-vis commercially available poly allyl diglycol carbonate (PADC) track detectors.   相似文献

Using Lexan polycarbonate plastic as the fission fragment track detectors, the fragment angular distributions have been measured in the cases of fission of232Th and238U induced by alpha particles of various energies ranging from 40 to 70MeV obtained from the 88″ variable energy cyclotron at Calcutta. The center-of-mass angular distributions have been calculated and fitted by a series of Legendre polynomials. TheW(10°)/W(90°) ratios (defined as anisotropy) were measured at several energies for both the targets. These data are utilized in calculation of the energy dependence ofK 0 2 , the standard deviation of the distribution in the angular momentum projection on the nuclear symmetry axis at the saddle point. Values of Γ f η , i.e. the ratio of the fission width to neutron emission width have been determined for232Th and238U nuclei. The integral cross-section for alpha induced fission in each target was determined by numerical integration of the respective center-of-mass angular differential cross-sections. The results were compared with similar data available in the literature which served to resolve some of the discrepancies observed in earlier measurements. The results were also compared with theoretical cross-sections.  相似文献

In this work a software developed in the Instituto de Física Gleb Wataghin, IFGW, UNICAMP, Campinas, SP, Brazil for obtaining thermal histories using apatite fission track analysis is presented. This software works in Microsoft-Windows environment. It will be freely disposable in the web site of the Departamento de Raios Cósmicos, IFGW, UNICAMP. Thermal histories obtained through this software are compared with those deduced using Monte Trax the software compatible with Apple Macintosh developed by Gallagher.  相似文献

The quartz glass open chromatographic columns with thermal gradient, which usually were used for the investigation of chemical properties of short-lived Z104 nuclides, were first used as the track detectors of spontaneously fissioning isotopes of elements 104, 105 and 106. The recoil nuclei of these elements were captured by the flow of gaseous chlorides then go to the quartz tube with reducing thermal gradient 400°C-100°C. The quartz tube was etched in 40% HF. The tracks due to spontaneous fission of isotopes 259104, 262105 and 263106 which were etched at the internal wall of quartz tubes were counted under optical microscope.  相似文献

The νp process is a primary nucleosynthesis process which occurs in core-collapse supernovae. An essential role in this process is being played by electron antineutrinos. They generate, by absorption on protons, a supply of neutrons which, by (n, p) reactions, allow to overcome waiting point nuclei with rather long beta-decay and proton-capture lifetimes. The synthesis of heavy elements by the νp process depends sensitively on the $\bar \nu _e$ luminosity and spectrum. As has been shown recently, the latter are affected by collective neutrino flavor oscillations which can swap the $\bar \nu _e$ and $\bar \nu _{\mu ,\tau }$ spectra above a certain split energy. Assuming such a swap scenario, we have studied the impact of collective neutrino flavor oscillations on the νp-process nucleosynthesis. Our results show that the production of light p-nuclei up to mass number A = 108 is very sensitive to collective neutrino oscillations.  相似文献

The structure of fission fragment tracks on the surface of dielectric layer crystals has been studied by electron microscopy methods. Single crystal of gypsum (CaSO4·2H2O), cadmium wolframate (CdWO4) and muscovite mica (KAl2(OH)2Si3AlO10) have been chosen as objects of investigation. It has been found that a discontinuous change of the surface profile continues at abnormally large (30nm) penetrations of the ion from the surface into the bulk of the crystal. Formation mechanisms of separate segments in the track structure are discussed.  相似文献

In the context of a parameter study conducted by several laboratories for future European radioactive beam facilities based on fast-neutron induced fission, in particular for the SPIRAL-II project at GANIL, we have measured the yields of neutron-rich isotopes in the mass range of 88 to 144. These nuclei were obtained as fission products of natural uranium bombarded by neutrons of 20 MeV average energy emitted by a thick carbon target irradiated by 50 MeV deuterons. Yields have been measured using on-line mass separation with the ion-guide method. Compared with proton-induced fission at 25 MeV the magnitude of cross-sections, except for the symmetric region, is similar. Z-distributions of isobars have the same width, 0.7 charge units, but their maxima are shifted by about 0.8 charge units, favouring production of the neutron-richer isobars. Our data allow calculations of absolute cross-sections for fission of natural uranium induced by neutrons of about 20 MeV. Received: 10 July 2000 / Accepted: 27 October 2000  相似文献

A new technique for the determination of Th and U content in solids was proposed. The ratio of U and Th fission reaction yields for “infinite thick” metall layers was measured in the γ-ray energy range from 7 MeV to 23.5 MeV. For this purpose metallic sheets of U and Th placed next to polyethyleneterephtalate track detectors were irradiated at the Microtron MT-25. The method is based on the fact that the ratio NU/NTh differs sufficiently from 1.7 to 3.3 depending on the γ-ray energy. Irradiating an Uranium ethalon and samples with γ-rays of (20–23) MeV (NU/NTh = 2.2) and 15–17) MeV (NU/NTh = 3.3) one can determine simultaneously both U and Th content in samples. The comparison of the results of measuring of U and Th content in different samples obtained by the proposed and the known methods is presented.  相似文献

Ternary and quaternary fission produced in silver and bromine nuclei have been studied withK5 nuclear emulsion exposed to 1.8 GeV/cK beams. The frequency of the ternary events is found to be ∼0.08 of that of the binary events produced in the same volume of the emulsion. The range ratio and range distribution of the fission fragments are studied and the angles between each pair of the fragments are determined. Ranges are found to vary from 5 to 40μ with a maximum number lying between 5 and 10μ. The angles between the fission fragments are found to form a broad distribution extending from 40° to 180°. A few of the events have also been analysed to give them a possible identity. A possible case of quaternary fission has also been reported. This paper was presented at the Symposium on 3rd High Energy Physics held at Bhubaneswar during November 1976.  相似文献

In this study, two factors which can influence fission track etching in apatite are considered: track segmentation (induced by thermal annealing) and variable radial etching speed (due to the reagent diffusion during the etching process).

During the latent track annealing, two distinguishable steps can be identified by measuring track lengths or diameters. A length reduction is firstly observed, followed by a segmentation process which leads to the emergence of disrupted regions (gaps).

At present time, electron microscopy studies on fission tracks in apatite show profiles which lead to hypotheses of a variable radial etching speed versus depth. These variations can be interpreted in terms of acid diffusion along the track. Moreover, the existence of several bulk etching speeds related to crystallographic orientation is approached.

Taking into account these different points, a software program, integrating parameters as original track orientation and depth, number of gaps, etc., is developed in order to model the track profile evolution during the etching process. Comparison with experiments in Durango apatite (Mexico) are also undertaken.  相似文献

The dielectric track detectors are very efficient in registering the main fragments of a heavy ion reaction in the presence of lightly ionizing products and γ-radiations because of their threshold nature of registration and wide-angle acceptance. The binary events, revealed after chemical etching of these detectors, appear as the events having two correlated prongs in the body of the detector. The measurements of the geometrical parameters of these prongs provide the necessary data for subsequent kinematical analysis. We have made a thorough analysis of the two-pronged events in order to understand the physical mechanism of their production, using the track data from the reactions,  相似文献

Fractional independent yields of fission products in the thermal neutron-induced fission of233U,235U,239Pu,241Pu and in the spontaneous fission of252Cf have been correlated with the neutron-to-proton ratio of the fission products. The yields of the products from a fissioning system, when plotted as a function of neutron-to-proton (N/Z) ratio of fission preducts, fall on two Gaussian distribution corresponding to light and heavy fission products. The centroids of the distribution or the most probable value of neutron-to-proton ratio is found to be very close to theN/Z of the fissioning nucleus. From the most probable value ofN/Z the various parameters of charge distribution e.g. most probable massA p, most probable chargeZ p, the mass dispersionσ Aand the charge dispersionσ Zhave been obtained and are in good agreement with the experimental values ofA pandZ p.  相似文献
