An interesting flourophore, 4‐(2,5‐dimethoxyphenylmethelene)‐2‐phenyl‐5‐oxazolone (DMPO) was synthesized by mixing an equivalent molar quantity of hippuric acid and 2,5‐dimethoxybenzaldehyde in acetic anhydride in the presence of anhydrous sodium acetate. The absorption and fluorescence characteristics of 4‐(2,5‐dimethoxy‐phenylmethelene)‐2‐phenyl‐5‐oxazolone (DMPO) were investigated in different solvents. DMPO dye exhibits red shift in both absorption and emission spectra as solvent polarity increases, indicating change in the dipole moment of molecules upon excitation due to an intramolecular charge transfer interaction. The fluorescence quantum yield depends strongly on the properties of the solvents, which was attributed to positive and negative solvatokinetic effects. A crystalline solid of DMPO gave strong excimer like emission at 630 nm due to the excitation of molecular aggregates. This is expected from the idealized crystal structure of the dye that belongs to the B‐type class of Steven's Classification. DMPO displayed fluorescence quenching by triethylamine via nonemissive exciplex formation.  相似文献

Three Donor‐π‐Acceptor‐π‐Donor type styryl dyes ( 5a‐c ) with different secondary donors are synthesized and characterized to study their nonlinear and linear optical properties. The structure–property relationships of the dyes are described in the light of systematic photophysical and theoretical investigations. The photophysical characteristics of 5a‐c are influenced by the polarity of the medium, with an appreciable bathochromic shift in emission ( 5b = 81 nm) and large Stoke shifts ( 5b = 104–173 nm) in polar solvents. 5a‐c showed intramolecular charge transfer characteristics recognized with the help of emission solvatochromism, solvent polarity graphs, natural bond orbital analysis and HOMO–LUMO energy difference. The optimized geometry and frontier molecular orbitals reveal that the electron donation takes place from secondary donors and not from a fixed donor (triphenylamine) which is more twisted. The nonlinear optical properties obtained using solvent induced spectral shift and computational methods are found within the limiting values. Z‐scan results reveal saturable kind of behavior for 5a , 5b and 5c , whereas 5a and 5b show reverse saturable kind of behavior in acetone and ethanol and hence give optical limiting values. The two‐photon absorption cross section described by two‐level approximation is highest for 5b (251–300 GM).  相似文献

The dipole moments of twelve 2‐N‐substituted amino‐5‐nitro‐4‐methylpyridines ( I‐XII ) and three 2‐N‐substituted amino‐3‐nitro‐4‐methylpyridines ( XIII‐XV ) were determined in benzene. The polar aspects of intramolecular charge‐transfer and intramolecular hydrogen bonding were discussed. The interaction dipole moments, μint, were calculated for 2‐N‐alkyl(or aryl)amino‐5‐nitro‐4‐methylpyridines. Increased alkylation of amino nitrogen brought about an intensified push‐pull interaction between the amino and nitro groups. The solvent effects on the dipole moments of 2‐N‐methylamino‐5‐nitro‐4‐methyl‐( I ), 2‐N,N‐dimethylamino‐5‐nitro‐4‐methyl‐ ( II ) and 2‐N‐methylamino‐3‐nitro‐4‐methylpyridines ( XIII ) were different. Specific hydrogen bond solute‐solvent interactions increased the charge‐transfer effect in I , but it did not disrupt the intramolecular hydrogen bond in XIII.  相似文献

A hyperbranched conjugated polymer functionalized in periphery with N,N‐dimethylaniline was synthesized and characterized. Solvatochromic shifts in both absorption and fluorescence spectra, the effects of solvent polarities on the fluorescence quantum yield and fluorescence lifetime were investigated to probe the formation of an intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) state. The peak position of the emission band arising from the ICT state is red‐shifted, and the fluorescence quantum efficiency of the polymer decreases with increasing polarity of the solvents.  相似文献

A series of 17,17‐dialkyl‐3,14‐diaryltetrabenzofluorenes were efficiently prepared by using Suzuki–Miyaura cross‐coupling reactions of the corresponding 3,14‐dibromo derivatives. Studies of the unique fluorescence properties of these compounds showed that they display intense blue to yellow fluorescence with high quantum yields in the solution state and blue to orange fluorescence with moderate quantum yields in the solid state. In addition, the fluorescence wavelength of the bis(p‐nitrophenyl) derivative is remarkably solvent‐dependent in a manner that correlates with the solvent polarity parameter ET(30). The results of density function theory calculations suggest that the intramolecular charge‐transfer character of the HOMO–LUMO transition is responsible for the large solvent effect. Moreover, addition of water to a tetrahydrofuran (THF) solution of this compound leads to quenching of the yellow fluorescence owing to an increase in the solvent polarity. However, when the amount of water fraction exceeds 70 %, a new fluorescence band appears at the same orange‐red emission wavelength as that of the solid‐state fluorescence. This observation suggests the occurrence of a crystallization‐induced emission (CIE) phenomenon in highly aqueous THF.  相似文献

The dynamics of the excited states of 1‐aminofluoren‐9‐one (1AF) and 1‐(N,N‐dimethylamino)‐fluoren‐9‐one (1DMAF) are investigated by using steady‐state absorption and fluorescence as well as subpicosecond time‐resolved absorption spectroscopic techniques. Following photoexcitation of 1AF, which exists in the intramolecular hydrogen‐bonded form in aprotic solvents, the excited‐state intramolecular proton‐transfer reaction is the only relaxation process observed in the excited singlet (S1) state. However, in protic solvents, the intramolecular hydrogen bond is disrupted in the excited state and an intermolecular hydrogen bond is formed with the solvent leading to reorganization of the hydrogen‐bond network structure of the solvent. The latter takes place in the timescale of the process of solvation dynamics. In the case of 1DMAF, the main relaxation pathway for the locally excited singlet, S1(LE), or S1(ICT) state is the configurational relaxation, via nearly barrierless twisting of the dimethylamino group to form the twisted intramolecular charge‐transfer, S1(TICT), state. A crossing between the excited‐state and ground‐state potential energy curves is responsible for the fast, radiationless deactivation and nonemissive character of the S1(TICT) state in polar solvents, both aprotic and protic. However, in viscous but strong hydrogen‐bond‐donating solvents, such as ethylene glycol and glycerol, crossing between the potential energy surfaces for the ground electronic state and the hydrogen‐bonded complex formed between the S1(TICT) state and the solvent is possibly avoided and the hydrogen‐bonded complex is weakly emissive.  相似文献

2‐(3,4,5,6‐Tetrafluoro‐2‐hydroxyphenyl)benzoxazole ( 2 ) emits the long wavelength fluorescence around 500 nm in nonpolar solvent via the intramolecular proton transfer process in the excited state of 2 (enol‐form) and also emits the intermediate wavelength fluorescence around 440 nm in polar solvent, which is assumed to originate from the excited state of 2 (anion). The ease of formation of 2 (anion), compared to 2‐(2‐hydroxyphenyl)benzoxazole ( 1 ), is explained by the strongly inductive fluorine atoms. In a solvent with the intermediate polarity, 2 emits both fluorescences and their relative intensity is dependent on the concentration of 2 , which is supposed to be caused by the high sensitivity of the intermediate wavelength emission to the concentration quenching.  相似文献

The photophysical signature of the tautomeric species of the asymmetric (N,N‐dimethylanilino)‐1,3‐diketone molecule are investigated using approaches rooted in density functional theory (DFT) and time‐dependent DFT (TD‐DFT). In particular, since this molecule, in the excited state, can undergo proton transfer reactions coupled to intramolecular charge transfer events, the different radiative and nonradiative channels are investigated by making use of different density‐based indexes. The use of these tools, together with the analysis of both singlet and triplet potential energy surfaces, provide new insights into excited‐state reactivity allowing one to rationalize the experimental findings including different behavior of the molecule as a function of solvent polarity.  相似文献

Experimental results on various photophysical properties of coumarin‐30 (C30) dye, namely, Stokes' shift (Δv), fluorescence quantum yield (τf), fluorescence lifetime (τf), radiative rate constant (kf) and nonradiative rate constant (knr), as obtained using absorption and fluorescence measurements have been reported. Though in most of the solvents the properties of C30 show more or less linear correlation with the solvent polarity function, Δf= [(ε ‐ 1)/(2ε+ 1) ‐ (n2 ‐ 1)/ (2n2+ l)], they show unusual deviations in nonpolar solvents at one end and in high‐polarity protic solvents at the other end. From the solvent polarity and temperature effect on the photophysical properties of the dye, following inferences have been drawn: ( 1 ) in nonpolar solvents, the dye exists in a nonpolar structure, where its 7‐NEt2 substituent adopts a pyramidal configuration and the amino lone pair is out of resonance with the benzopyrone π cloud; ( 2 ) in medium to higher polarity solvents, the dye exists in a polar intra‐molecular charge transfer structure, where the 7‐NEt2 group and the 1,2‐benzopyrone moiety are in the same plane and the amino lone pair is in resonance with the benzopyrone π cloud; ( 3 ) in protic solvents, the dye‐solvent intermolecular hydrogen bonding influences the photophysical properties of the dye; and ( 4 ) in high‐polarity protic solvents, the excited C30 undergoes a new activation‐controlled nonradiative deexcitation process because of the involvement of a twisted intra‐molecular charge transfer (TICT) state. Contrary to most other TICT molecules, the activation barrier for this deexcitation process in C30 is observed to increase with solvent polarity. A rational for this unusual behavior has been given on the basis of the solvent polarity‐dependent stabilization and crossing of relevant electronic states and the relative propensity of interconversion among these states.  相似文献

The photophysical properties of intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) in a novel tribranched donor–π–acceptor chromophore, triphenoxazine‐2,4,6‐triphenyl‐1,3,5‐triazine (tri‐PXZ‐TRZ), with thermally activated delayed fluorescence character was investigated in different aprotic solvents by steady‐state spectroscopy and femtosecond and nanosecond transient absorption spectroscopy measurements. Increasing the solvent polarity led to a significant increase in the Stokes shift. The large Stokes shift in highly polar solvents was attributed to ICT properties upon excitation; this resulted in a strong interaction between the tri‐PXZ‐TRZ molecule and the surrounding solvent, which led to a strong solvation process. Quantum‐chemical calculations and changes in the dipole moment showed that this compound has a large degree of ICT. Furthermore, an apolar environment helped to preserve the symmetry of tri‐PXZ‐TRZ and to enhance its emission efficiency. The femtosecond and nanosecond transient absorption spectroscopy results indicated that the excited‐state dynamics of this push–pull molecule were strongly influenced by solvent polarity through the formation of a solvent‐stabilized ICT state. The excited‐state relaxation mechanism of tri‐PXZ‐TRZ was proposed by performing target model analysis on the femtosecond transient absorption spectra. In addition, the delayed fluorescence of tri‐PXZ‐TRZ was significantly modulated by a potential competition between solvation and intersystem crossing processes.  相似文献

The fluorescence behavior of 2‐(3‐fluorophenyl)‐2,3‐dihydro‐1H‐benzo[f]isoindole‐1,3‐dione ( 1 ) was studied in solvents of different polarity and viscosity. Dual luminescence is observed and the short‐wavelength emission is found to increase considerably with the solvent polarity. The ratio of the fluorescence quantum yield of the two states emitting, the one (SW*) at short wavelength and the other (LW*) at long wavelength, shows a bell‐shaped dependence on the reciprocal of the temperature in diethyl ether, butyronitrile, and propane‐1,2,3‐triol triacetate (glycerol triacetate; GTA). This has been interpreted as the result of a reversible interconversion between the two states. The enthalpy difference between the SW* and LW* excited states, as deduced from the slope of the ln (Φ/Φ) vs. 1/T curves in the high temperature range, is found to be solvent polarity and solvent viscosity independent as the same value (−7.3 kJ/mol) is obtained in the three above‐mentioned solvents. The independence from polarity is the consequence of a similar difference in dipole moment between the ground‐state and the SW* and LW* excited states (4.5 and 4.9 D, respectively, derived from solvatochromy). The activation energy of the SW*→LW* step deduced from the low temperature measurements in the nonviscous solvents, increases with solvent polarity (11.6 and 17.5 kJ/mol for diethyl ether and butyronitrile, respectively); they are greater than the viscous‐flow activation energy of the solvents indicating that the resolvation of the excited dipole controls the kinetics. In the nonviscous solvents, the LW* state originates from the SW* state, while in the viscous GTA solution, both states are formed simultaneously within the 1‐ps laser pulse.  相似文献

The emission behavior of a new V‐shaped organic fluorescent compound (p,p′‐bis(2‐aryl‐1,3,4‐oxadiazol‐5‐yl)diphenyl sulfone ( OZA-SO ), consisting of diethylamino (donor) and sulfone (acceptor) units, has been studied in various polar solvents and with different morphologies. As expected, there is the gradual transition from the locally excited state to the intramolecular charge‐transfer (ICT) state with the increasing solvent polarity. The photoluminescence intensity of OZA-SO initially decreases with a low water fraction (fw), owing to ICT effect, and then increases with a high fw, owing to crystallization‐induced emission enhancement. At the same time, the fluorescence lifetime of OZA-SO increases from 0.062 ns in dimethylformamide (DMF) to 5.80 ns in a solution containing 90 % water, and then to 7.49 ns in a solution containing 60 % water. Furthermore, the solid‐state emission of OZA-SO can be tuned reversibly from green to yellow by fuming/grinding or fuming/heating owing to morphological changes. This color‐switchable feature of OZA-SO may have potential applications in optical‐recording and temperature‐sensing materials.  相似文献

The spectral and photophysical properties of a new intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) probe, namely 4′-dimethylamino-2,5-dihydroxychalcone (DMADHC) were studied in different solvents by using steady-state absorption and emission spectroscopy. Whereas the absorption spectrum undergoes minor change with increasing polarity of the solvents, the fluorescence spectrum experiences a distinct bathochromic shift in the band position and the fluorescence quantum yield increases reaching a maximum before decrease with increasing the solvent polarity. The magnitude of change in the dipole moment was calculated based on the Lippert–Mataga equation. These results give the evidence about the intramolecular charge transfer character in the emitting singlet state of this compound.  相似文献

Bis[2,4‐di(trifluoromethyl)quinoline‐7‐yl]amine ( 1 ), bis[2,4‐di(trifluoromethyl)quinoline‐7‐yl]methylamine ( 2 ), bis[2,4‐di(trifluoromethyl)quinoline‐7‐yl]phenylamine derivatives, Q2NPhX; X=NO2 ( 3 a ), I ( 3 b ), H ( 3 c ), OMe ( 3 d ), and NH2 ( 3 e ), tris[2,4‐di(trifluoromethyl)quinoline‐7‐yl]amine ( 4 ), and bis[2,4‐di(pentafluoroethyl)quinoline‐7‐yl]‐4‐nitrophenylamine ( 5 ) were prepared as functional fluorophores. On irradiating the solution samples, 1 showed no noticeable alteration, whereas 2 , 3 a – d , and 4 showed emission color changes from yellowish green to blue, indicating that a photoreaction took place. Analyses of the photoproduct based on absorption and emission spectra, 1H NMR spectra, and X‐ray crystallography indicated that photocyclization reactions occurred regioselectively and quantitatively to form bent–bent dipyridocarbazoles. In 3 a – d , the reaction rates depended on the solvent polarity and the substituent on the benzene ring. The photoreactions were accelerated with decreasing solvent polarity and with increasing electron‐withdrawing character of the substituents. The photocyclization of triquinolineamine 4 was faster than that of 3 a in all solvents. The results of semiempirical quantum‐chemical PM6 calculations suggested that the observed regioselective photocyclization could be explained by stabilization of the excited triplet transition state for the bent–bent form because of the molecular geometry with the CH?NQ hydrogen bonds. The solution of 5 in MeOH displayed photoreaction‐induced self‐assembly behavior to form twisted tape‐like fibers of width 200 nm, as determined by TEM imaging.  相似文献

Donor–acceptor systems based on subporphyrins with nitro and amino substituents at meta and para positions of the meso‐phenyl groups were synthesized and their photophysical properties have been systematically investigated. These molecules show two types of charge‐transfer interactions, that is, from center to periphery and periphery to center depending on the peripheral substitution, in which the subporphyrin moiety plays a dual role as both donor and acceptor. Based on the solvent‐polarity‐dependent photophysical properties, we have shown that the fluorescence emission of para isomers originates from the solvatochromic, dipolar, symmetry‐broken, and relaxed excited states, whereas the non‐solvatochromic fluorescence of meta isomers is of the octupolar type with false symmetry breaking. The restricted meso‐(4‐aminophenyl) rotation at low temperature prevents the intramolecular charge‐transfer (ICT)‐forming process. The two‐photon absorption (TPA) cross‐section values were determined by photoexcitation at 800 nm in nonpolar toluene and polar acetonitrile solvents to see the effect of ICT on the TPA processes. The large enhancement in the TPA cross‐section value of approximately 3200 GM (1 GM=10?50 cm4 s photon?1) with donor–acceptor substitution has been attributed to the octupolar effect and ICT interactions. A correlation was found between the electron‐donating/‐withdrawing abilities of the peripheral groups and the TPA cross‐section values, that is, p‐aminophenyl>m‐aminophenyl>nitrophenyl. The increased stability of octupolar ICT interactions in highly polar solvents enhances the TPA cross‐section value by a factor of approximately 2 and 4, respectively, for p‐amino‐ and m‐nitrophenyl‐substituted subporphyrins. On the other hand, the stabilization of the symmetry‐broken, dipolar ICT state gives rise to a negligible impact on the TPA processes.  相似文献

In this paper, we theoretically explore the motivation and behaviors of the excited‐state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) reaction for a novel white organic light‐emitting diode (WOLED) material 4‐tert‐butyl‐2‐(5‐(5‐tert‐butyl‐2‐methoxyphenyl)thiazolo[5,4‐d]thiazol‐2‐yl)‐phenol (t‐MTTH). The “atoms in molecules” (AIM) method is adopted to verify the formation and existence of the hydrogen bond O? H···N. By analyzing the excited‐state hydrogen bonding behaviors via changes in the chemical bonding and infrared (IR) vibrational spectra, we confirm that the intramolecular hydrogen bond O? H···N should be getting strengthened in the first excited state in four kinds of solvents, thus revealing the tendency of ESIPT reaction. Further, the role of charge‐transfer interaction is addressed under the frontier molecular orbitals (MOs), which depicts the nature of the electronic excited state and supports the ESIPT reaction. Also, the electron distribution confirms the ESIPT tendency once again. The scanned and optimized potential energy curves according to variational O? H coordinate in the solvents demonstrate that the proton transfer reaction should occur in the S1 state, and the potential energy barriers along with ESIPT direction support this reaction. Based on the excited‐state behaviors reported in this work, the experimental spectral phenomenon has been reasonably explained.  相似文献

Studies are reported on a series of triphenylamine–(C?C)n–2,5‐diphenyl‐1,3,4‐oxadiazole dyad molecules (n=1–4, 1 , 2 , 3 and 4 , respectively) and the related triphenylamine‐C6H4–(C?C)3–oxadiazole dyad 5 . The oligoyne‐linked D–π–A (D=electron donor, A=electron acceptor) dyad systems have been synthesised by palladium‐catalysed cross‐coupling of terminal alkynyl and butadiynyl synthons with the corresponding bromoalkynyl moieties. Cyclic voltammetric studies reveal a reduction in the HOMO–LUMO gap in the series of compounds 1 – 4 as the oligoyne chain length increases, which is consistent with extended conjugation through the elongated bridges. Photophysical studies provide new insights into conjugative effects in oligoyne molecular wires. In non‐polar solvents the emission from these dyad systems has two different origins: a locally excited (LE) state, which is responsible for a π*→π fluorescence, and an intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) state, which produces charge‐transfer emission. In polar solvents the LE state emission vanishes and only ICT emission is observed. This emission displays strong solvatochromism and analysis according to the Lippert–Mataga–Oshika formalism shows significant ICT for all the luminescent compounds with high efficiency even for the longer more conjugated systems. The excited‐state properties of the dyads in non‐polar solvents vary with the extent of conjugation. For more conjugated systems a fast non‐radiative route dominates the excited‐state decay and follows the Engelman–Jortner energy gap law. The data suggest that the non‐radiative decay is driven by the weak coupling limit.  相似文献

The interplay between excited‐state charge and proton transfer reactions in protic solvents is investigated in a series of 7‐azaindole (7AI) derivatives: 3‐cyano‐7‐azaindole (3CNAI), 5‐cyano‐7‐azaindole (5CNAI), 3,5‐dicyano‐7‐azaindole (3,5CNAI) and dicyanoethenyl‐7‐azaindole (DiCNAI). Similar to 7AI, 3CNAI and 3,5CNAI undergo methanol catalyzed excited‐state double proton transfer (ESDPT), resulting in dual (normal and proton transfer) emission. Conversely, ESDPT is prohibited for 5CNAI and DiCNAI in methanol, as supported by a unique normal emission with high quantum efficiency. Instead, the normal emission undergoes prominent solvatochromism. Detailed relaxation dynamics and temperature dependent studies are carried out. The results conclude that significant excited‐state charge transfer (ESCT) takes place for both 5CNAI and DiCNAI. The charge‐transfer specie possesses a different dipole moment from that of the proton‐transfer tautomer species. Upon reaching the equilibrium polarization, there exists a solvent‐polarity induced barrier during the proton‐transfer tautomerization, and ESDPT is prohibited for 5CNAI and DiCNAI during the excited‐state lifespan. The result is remarkably different from 7AI, which is also unique among most excited‐state charge/proton transfer coupled systems studied to date.  相似文献

The D‐π‐A type phosphonium salts in which electron acceptor (A=‐+PR3) and donor (D=‐NPh2) groups are linked by polarizable π‐conjugated spacers show intense fluorescence that is classically ascribed to excited‐state intramolecular charge transfer (ICT). Unexpectedly, salts with π=‐(C6H4)n‐ and ‐(C10H6C6H4)‐ exhibit an unusual dual emission (F1 and F2 bands) in weakly polar or nonpolar solvents. Time‐resolved fluorescence studies show a successive temporal evolution from the F1 to F2 emission, which can be rationalized by an ICT‐driven counterion migration. Upon optically induced ICT, the counterions move from ‐+PR3 to ‐NPh2 and back in the ground state, thus achieving an ion‐transfer cycle. Increasing the solvent polarity makes the solvent stabilization dominant, and virtually stops the ion migration. Providing that either D or A has ionic character (by static ion‐pair stabilization), the ICT‐induced counterion migration should not be uncommon in weakly polar to nonpolar media, thereby providing a facile avenue for mimicking a photoinduced molecular machine‐like motion.  相似文献

Three carbazole‐containing methacrylic monomers, 2‐(N‐carbazolyl)ethyl methacrylate(CzEMA), 6‐(N‐carbazolyl)hexyl methacrylate(CzHMA), and 11‐(N‐carbazolyl)undecyl methacrylate (CzUMA), and their saturated model compounds, 2‐(N‐carbazolyl)ethyl isobutyrate, 6‐(N‐carbazolyl)hexyl isobutyrate, and 11‐(N‐carbazolyl)undecyl isobutyrate, were synthesized and polymerized. UV absorption spectra showed that there was either negligible or no interaction between the carbon–carbon double bond of the methacrylic group and the carbazolyl chromophore moiety in the ground state for these monomers. Fluorescence spectra of the monomers, their model compounds, and the polymers were recorded in the solvents with different polarities. CzEMA exhibited the fluorescence structural self‐quenching effect (SSQE), but CzHMA and CzUMA did not. In addition, the SSQE of CzEMA depended strongly on the polarity of the solvents. That is, the stronger the polarity of a solvent was, the more obvious the SSQE was. Therefore, the SSQE of CzEMA mainly was caused by the intramolecular charge‐transfer interaction between the excited electron‐donating carbazolyl chromophore moiety and the electron‐accepting carbon–carbon double bond of the methacrylic group. This was confirmed by the fluorescence‐decay curves and the fluorescence lifetimes of the monomers, their model compounds, and the polymers. The monomers, their model compounds, and the polymers initiated the photopolymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) upon UV irradiation. CzEMA showed greater initiation ability than the other two monomers and their model compounds; this was ascribed to the photoinduced intramolecular charge‐transfer interaction. The higher initiation efficiency of the homopolymers compared to that of the copolymers with MMA was interpreted as the result of singlet energy migration of the excited carbazolyl chromophores along the polymer chains. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
