Let Ω be a compact Hausdorff space, X a Banach space, C(Ω, X) the Banach space of continuous X-valued functions on Ω under the uniform norm, U: C(Ω, X) → Y a bounded linear operator and U #, U # two natural operators associated to U. For each 1 ≤ s < ∞, let the conditions (α) U ∈ Π s (C(Ω, X), Y); (β)U # ∈ Π s (C(Ω), Π s (X, Y)); (γ) U # ε Π s (X, Π s (C(Ω), Y)). A general result, [10, 13], asserts that (α) implies (β) and (γ). In this paper, in case s = 2, we give necessary and sufficient conditions that natural operators on C([0, 1], l p ) with values in l 1 satisfies (α), (β) and (γ), which show that the above implication is the best possible result.  相似文献

Given an operator T : XY between Banach spaces, and a Banach lattice E consisting of measurable functions, we consider the point-wise extension of the operator to the vector-valued Banach lattices T E : E(X) → E(Y) given by T E (f)(ω) = T(f(ω)). It is proved that for any Banach lattice E which does not contain c 0, the operator T is an isomorphism on a subspace isomorphic to c 0 if and only if so is T E . An analogous result for invertible operators on subspaces isomorphic to 1 is also given.  相似文献

Theω′-topology on the spaceL(X, Y) of bounded linear operators from the Banach spaceX into the Banach spaceY is discussed in [10]. Let ℒw' (X, Y) denote the space of allT∈L(X, Y) for which there exists a sequence of compact linear operators (T n)⊂K(X, Y) such thatT=ω′−limnTn and let . We show that is a Banach ideal of operators and that the continuous dual spaceK(X, Y)* is complemented in . This results in necessary and sufficient conditions forK(X, Y) to be reflexive, whereby the spacesX andY need not satisfy the approximation property. Similar results follow whenX andY are locally convex spaces. Financial support from the Potchefstroom University and Maseno University is greatly acknowledged. Let X be a normed space that satisfies the Johnson–Lindenstrauss lemma (J–L lemma, in short) in the sense that for any integer n and any x 1,…,x n X, there exists a linear mapping L:XF, where FX is a linear subspace of dimension O(log n), such that ‖x i x j ‖≤‖L(x i )−L(x j )‖≤O(1)⋅‖x i x j ‖ for all i,j∈{1,…,n}. We show that this implies that X is almost Euclidean in the following sense: Every n-dimensional subspace of X embeds into Hilbert space with distortion 22O(log*n)2^{2^{O(\log^{*}n)}} . On the other hand, we show that there exists a normed space Y which satisfies the J–L lemma, but for every n, there exists an n-dimensional subspace E n Y whose Euclidean distortion is at least 2Ω(α(n)), where α is the inverse Ackermann function.  相似文献

Let μ be a measure on ℝn that satisfies the estimate μ(B r(x))≤cr α for allx ∈n and allr ≤ 1 (B r(x) denotes the ball of radius r centered atx. Let ϕ j,k (ɛ) (x)=2 nj2ϕ(ɛ)(2 j x-k) be a wavelet basis forj ∈ ℤ, κ ∈ ℤn, and ∈ ∈E, a finite set, and letP j (T)=Σɛ,k <T j,k (ɛ) j,k (ɛ) denote the associated projection operators at levelj (T is a suitable measure or distribution). IffLs p(dμ) for 1 ≤p ≤ ∞, we show thatP j(f dμ) ∈ Lp(dx) and ||P j (fdμ)||L p(dx)c2 j((n-α)/p′))||f||L p(dμ) for allj ≥ 0. We also obtain estimates for the limsup and liminf of ||P j (fdμ)||L p(dx) under more restrictive hypotheses. Communicated by Guido Weiss  相似文献

Let X 1, X 2,... be independent identically distributed random variables with distribution function F, S 0 = 0, S n = X 1 + ⋯ + X n , and n = max1⩽kn S k . We obtain large-deviation theorems for S n and n under the condition 1 − F(x) = P{X 1x} = el(x), l(x) = x α L(x), α ∈ (0, 1), where L(x) is a slowly varying function as x → ∞. __________ Translated from Lietuvos Matematikos Rinkinys, Vol. 45, No. 4, pp. 447–456, October–December, 2005.  相似文献

AssumeV=L. Let κ be a cardinal and forX⊆κ, n<ω let α n (X) denote the least ordinal α such thatL α[X] is Σ n admissible. In our earlier paperUncountable admissibles I: forcing, we characterized those ordinals of the form σ n (X) when κ is regular. This paper treats the singular case using Barwise compactness, an effective version of Jensen's covering lemma and β-recursion theory.  相似文献

Any regular mixed Tsirelson spaceT(θ n ,S n )N for whichθ n n → 0, whereθ=lim n θ n 1n , is shown to be arbitrarily distortable. Certain asymptoticl 1 constants for those and other mixed Tsirelson spaces are calculated. Also, a combinatorial result on the Schreier families (S α ) α<ω 1 is proved and an application is given to show that for every Banach spaceX with a basis (e i ), the two Δ-spectrums Δ(X) and Δ(X, (e i )) coincide. Part of this paper also appears in the first author’s Ph.D. thesis which is being prepared under the supervision of Prof. H. Rosenthal at the University of Texas at Austin.  相似文献

It is shown that ifA andB are non-empty subsets of {0, 1} n (for somenεN) then |A+B|≧(|A||B|)α where α=(1/2) log2 3 here and in what follows. In particular if |A|=2 n-1 then |A+A|≧3 n-1 which anwers a question of Brown and Moran. It is also shown that if |A| = 2 n-1 then |A+A|=3 n-1 if and only if the points ofA lie on a hyperplane inn-dimensions. Necessary and sufficient conditions are also given for |A +B|=(|A||B|)α. The above results imply the following improvement of a result of Talagrand [7]: ifX andY are compact subsets ofK (the Cantor set) withm(X),m(Y)>0 then λ(X+Y)≧2(m(X)m(Y))α wherem is the usual measure onK and λ is Lebesgue measure. This also answers a question of Moran (in more precise terms) showing thatm is not concentrated on any proper Raikov system.  相似文献

LetX be a Banach space and letA be the infinitesimal generator of a differentiable semigroup {T(t) |t ≥ 0}, i.e. aC 0-semigroup such thattT(t)x is differentiable on (0, ∞) for everyx εX. LetB be a bounded linear operator onX and let {S(t) |t ≥ 0} be the semigroup generated byA +B. Renardy recently gave an example which shows that {S(t) |t ≥ 0} need not be differentiable. In this paper we give a condition on the growth of ‖T′(t)‖ ast ↓ 0 which is sufficient to ensure that {S(t) |t ≥ 0} is differentiable. Moreover, we use Renardy’s example to study the optimality of our growth condition. Our results can be summarized roughly as follows:
(i)  If lim sup t→0+t log‖T′(t)‖/log(1/2) = 0 then {S(t) |t ≥ 0} is differentiable.
(ii)  If 0<L=lim sup t→0+t log‖T′(t)‖/log(1/2)<∞ thentS(t ) is differentiable on (L, ∞) in the uniform operator topology, but need not be differentiable near zero
(iii)  For each function α: (0, 1) → (0, ∞) with α(t)/log(1/t) → ∞ ast ↓ 0, Renardy’s example can be adjusted so that limsup t→0+t log‖T′(t)‖/α(t) = 0 andtS(t) is nowhere differentiable on (0, ∞).
We also show that if lim sup t→0+t pT′(t)‖<∞ for a givenp ε [1, ∞), then lim sup t→0+t pS′(t)‖<∞; it was known previously that if limsup t→0+t pT′(t)‖<∞, then {S(t) |t ≥ 0} is differentiable and limsup t→0+t 2p–1S′(t)‖<∞.  相似文献

Given an extremal process X: [0,∞)→[0,∞)d with lower curve C and associated point process N={(tk, Xk):k≥0}, tk distinct and Xk independent, given a sequence ζ n =(τ n , ξ n ), n≥1, of time-space changes (max-automorphisms of [0,∞)d+1), we study the limit behavior of the sequence of extremal processes Yn(t)=ξ n -1 ○ X ○ τn(t)=Cn(t) V max {ξ n -1 ○ Xk: tk ≤ τn(t){ ⇒ Y under a regularity condition on the norming sequence ζn and asymptotic negligibility of the max-increments of Yn. The limit class consists of self-similar (with respect to a group ηα=(σα, Lα), α>0, of time-space changes) extremal processes. By self-similarity here we mean the property Lα ○ Y(t) = d Y ○ αα(t) for all α>0. The univariate marginals of Y are max-self-decomposable. If additionally the initial extremal process X is assumed to have homogeneous max-increments, then the limit process is max-stable with homogeneous max-increments. We prove a structure theorem for locally finite connected graphsX with infinitely many ends admitting a non-compact group of automorphisms which is transitive in its action on the space of ends, Ω X . For such a graphX, there is a uniquely determined biregular treeT (with both valencies finite), a continuous representationφ : Aut(X) → Aut(T) with compact kernel, an equivariant homeomorphism λ : Ω X → Ω T , and an equivariant map τ : Vert(X) → Vert(T) with finite fibers. Boundary-transitive trees are described, and some methods of constructing boundary-transitive graphs are discussed, as well as some examples.  相似文献

For a given bi-continuous semigroup (T(t)) t⩾0 on a Banach space X we define its adjoint on an appropriate closed subspace X° of the norm dual X′. Under some abstract conditions this adjoint semigroup is again bi-continuous with respect to the weak topology σ(X°,X). We give the following application: For Ω a Polish space we consider operator semigroups on the space Cb(Ω) of bounded, continuous functions (endowed with the compact-open topology) and on the space M(Ω) of bounded Baire measures (endowed with the weak*-topology). We show that bi-continuous semigroups on M(Ω) are precisely those that are adjoints of bi-continuous semigroups on Cb(Ω). We also prove that the class of bi-continuous semigroups on Cb(ω) with respect to the compact-open topology coincides with the class of equicontinuous semigroups with respect to the strict topology. In general, if is not a Polish space this is not the case.  相似文献

Let Ω[ξ] denote the polynomial algebra (with 1) in commutative indeterminates {ie65-1}, 1 ≦i, jn, 1 ≦k < ∞, over a commutative ring Ω. Thealgebra of generic matrices Ω [Y] is defined to be the Ω-subalgebra ofM n (Ω[ξ]) generated by the matricesY k=({ie65-2}), 1 ≦i, jn, 1 ≦k < ∞. This algebra has been studied extensively by Amitsur and by Procesi in particular Amitsur has used it to construct a finite dimensional, central division algebra Ω (Y) which is not a crossed product. In this paper we shall prove, for Ω a domain, that Ω(Y) has exponentn in the Brauer group (Amitsur may already know this fact); consequently, for Ω an infinite field andn a multiple of 4, iff(X 1, …,X m) is a polynomial linear in all theX i but one (similar to Formanek’s central polynomials for matrix rings) andf 2 is central forM n (Ω), thenf is central forM n (Ω). (The existence of a polynomial not central forM n (Ω), but whose square is central forM n(Ω) is equivalent to every central division algebra of degreen containing a quadratic extension of its center; well-known theory immediately shows this is the case of 4‖n and 8χn.) Also, information is obtained about Ω(Y) for arbitary Ω, most notably that the Jacobson radical is the set of nilpotent elements. A sufficient condition is given when a subspaceLL 1(μ,X) of the space of Bochner integrable function, defined on a finite and positive measure space (S, Φ, μ) with values in a Banach spaceX, is locally uniformly convex renormable in terms of the integrable evaluations {∫ A fdμ;f∈L}. This shows the lifting property thatL 1(μ,X) is renormable if and only ifX is, and indicates a large class of renormable subspaces even ifX does not admit and equivalent locally uniformly convex norm.  相似文献

LetT(t) be the translation group onY=C 0(ℝ×K)=C 0(ℝ)⊗C(K),K compact Hausdorff, defined byT(t)f(x, y)=f(x+t, y). In this paper we give several representations of the sun-dialY corresponding to this group. Motivated by the solution of this problem, viz.Y =L 1(ℝ)⊗M(K), we develop a duality theorem for semigroups of the formT 0(t)⊗id on tensor productsZX of Banach spaces, whereT 0(t) is a semigroup onZ. Under appropriate compactness assumptions, depending on the kind of tensor product taken, we show that the sun-dial ofZX is given byZ X*. These results are applied to determine the sun-dials for semigroups induced on spaces of vector-valued functions, e.g.C 0(Ω;X) andL p (μ;X). In the present paper we consider a von Neumann algebra M with a faithful normal semi-finite trace τ, and {α t }, a strongly continuous extension to L p (M, τ) of a semigroup of absolute contractions on L 1(M, τ). By means of a non-commutative Banach Principle we prove for a Besicovitch function b and xL p (M, τ), that the averages 1/T0 T b(t)α t (x)dt converge bilateral almost uniformly in L p (M, τ) as T → 0. Let X and Y be Polish spaces with non-atomic Borel measures μ and ν of full support. Suppose that T and S are ergodic non-singular homeomorphisms of (X, μ) and (Y, ν) with continuous Radon-Nikodym derivatives. Suppose that either they are both of type III 1 or that they are both of type III λ, 0 < λ < 1 and, in the III λ case, suppose in addition that both ‘topological asymptotic ranges’ (defined in the article) are log λ · ℤ. Then there exist invariant dense G δ-subsets X′ ⊂ X and Y′ ⊂ Y of full measure and a non-singular homeomorphism ϕ: X′ → Y′ which is an orbit equivalence between T| X and S| Y, that is ϕ{T i x} = {S i ϕx} for all xX′. Moreover, the Radon-Nikodym derivative ∘ ϕ/dμ is continuous on X′ and, letting S′ = ϕ −1 Sϕ, we have T x = S n(x) x and Sx = T m(x) x where n and m are continuous on X′.  相似文献
