Minimum selections and fixed points of set-valued operators in Banach spaces with some uniform convexity

A new continuity theorem of minimum selection is presented for a continuous set-valued operator from a topological space into a Banach space with some uniform convexity. As applications, some problems concerning minimum right inverses for linear operators and minimum fixed points for condensing set-valued nonlinear operators are discussed. Also, the existence of minimum solutions for an integral inclusion is proved.

Computing a Minimum Weight Triangulation of a Sparse Point Set*

Investigating the minimum weight triangulation of a point set with constraint is an important approach for seeking the ultimate solution of the minimum weight triangulation problem. In this paper, we consider the minimum weight triangulation of a sparse point set, and present an O(n ⁴) algorithm to compute a triangulation of such a set. The property of sparse point set can be converted into a new sufficient condition for finding subgraphs of the minimum weight triangulation. A special point set is exhibited to show that our new subgraph of minimum weight triangulation cannot be found by any currently known methods.     

Point Code Minimum Steiner Triple Systems

The point code of a Steiner triple system uniquely determines the system when the number of vectors whose weight equals the replication number agrees with the number of points. The existence of a Steiner triple system with this minimum point code property is established for all v 1,3 (mod 6) with v 15.     

Some Applications of Critical Point Theory of Distance Functions on Riemannian Manifolds

In this paper, we use the theory of critical points of distance functions to study the rigidity and topology of Riemannian manifolds with sectional curvature bounded below. We prove that an n-dimensional complete connected Riemannian manifold M with sectional curvature K _M 1 is isometric to an n-dimensional Euclidean unit sphere if M has conjugate radius bigger than /2 and contains a geodesic loop of length 2. We also prove that if M is an n(3)-dimensional complete connected Riemannian manifold with K _M 1 and radius bigger than /2, then any closed connected totally geodesic submanifold of dimension not less than two of M is homeomorphic to a sphere.
