Summary The trace elements composition of gallbladder stones samples of the types cholesterol, pigment and mixed stones in addition to bile have been investigated by k0-instrumental neutron activation analysis (k0-INAA). The samples were obtained from several individuals of adult subjects of the Libyan population who undergone open surgery of gallbladder (cholecystectomy) at Al-khadra University Hospital in Tripoli. The samples were lyophilized, irradiated together with Au wire and Zr foil, which serve as flux ratio monitor and a parameter at TNRC. Concentrations of 24 elements in gallstone and 23 elements in bile were determined. The levels of the trace elements in the various samples investigated are measured and discussed. The reliability of the analysis was checked with several biological standard reference materials.  相似文献

In this paper the performances and the limitations of three multi-elementary analysis techniques are compared applied to a study of air pollution biomonitoring in Morocco. These techniques are: (1) 14 MeV neutron activation analysis (14 MeV-NAA), (2) thermal neutron activation analysis using the k 0 quasi-absolute method (k 0-NAA) and (3) energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence analysis (ED-XRF). The experimental procedures and the control of the analytical results using certified reference materials are described and discussed. The three methods were confronted for the analysis of lichens, mosses and tree-barks. The complementarity of these methods enabled us to determine 43 elements in different samples. The most suitable method for each element was selected according to the sensitivity and selectivity necessitating the minimum corrections of the matrix effects and/or the interfering reactions.  相似文献

In order to determine multiple elements by k 0 standardization-based neutron induced prompt gamma-ray analysis (PGA), measurements and evaluation of k 0 factors for the elements have been performed. The k 0 factors using Cl as a comparator for 27 elements, which are effective for the analysis by PGA, were measured with precision almost less than 3% using the cold and thermal guided neutron beams at JRR-3M. The accuracy of the k 0 factors were better than 10% except for the non-1/v elements of Cd and Sm. Neutron spectrum correction is necessary for common use of k 0 factors of the non-1/v elements.  相似文献

In the under developed countries, the people of far-flung rural areas still depend to a large extent upon herbal medicines. At the foundation of usage of herbal medicine is the experience of thousands of years. The present paper deals with the characterisation of exotic fruits for essential and toxic elements. The samples include Morus nigra, Morus alba, Salvadora persica and Carissa opaca (from low and high altitude). Two standardizations of neutron activation analysis, that is, semi-absolute k 0-instrumental neutron activation analysis (k 0-INAA) and epithermal neutron activation analysis (ENAA) were employed for the quantification of elements. The analysis methodologies were validated by analyzing the IAEA-336 (lichen) and NIST-SRM-1572 (citrus leaves). Sixteen elements including Br, Ca, Cl, Co, Cr, Fe, I, K, Mg, Mn, Na, Rb, Sb, Sc Sr, and Zn were determined in all samples. Daily intakes of various elements from the samples were measured and compared with the dietary reference intakes. Additionally, principal component analysis was performed to extract information regarding samples and elements.  相似文献

Instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA) for traces and major elements of several geological samples from “Zgounder” region in Morocco was performed utilizing the k 0-standardization method. Sample irradiation has been done by the 250 kW Triga Mark II reactor at Jozef Stefan Institute in Slovenia. Due to its accuracy, sensitivity and specificity, the k 0-standardization method is the most suitable method for non-destructive multielement analysis mainly for trace elements in rocks. It requires an accurate knowledge of the parameters of the irradiation facilities and other instrumentation parameters. It is an absolute standardization method, where the absolute nuclear data are replaced by a nuclear constant, the k 0-factor, determined experimentally with high accuracy. More than 40 elements were determined using about 30-second short and about 7-hour long irradiations. Gamma-rays emitted from the irradiated samples have been determined by a high purity germanium detector. Accuracy was assessed using the standard reference material AGV-1. This was less than 1% for major elements and about 5% for traces. This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

The k 0-standardization method has been applied and evaluated at the cold-neutron prompt gamma-ray activation (PGA) facility of the Swiss spallation source SINQ (Paul Scherrer Institute). The k 0-factors for 26 elements of interest were measured using chlorine as a comparator. The results showed good agreement with the values determined at other cold and thermal neutron guided beams, except for a few elements. Then, standard reference materials were analyzed to assess the accuracy of the method using the obtained k 0-factors. Finally, the technique was used for multielement determination in various samples coming from nuclear waste storage, geochemistry and geology. In addition, the non-destructive nature of PGAA offered an interesting application in archeology.  相似文献

This paper presents elemental data of sediment samples and its analysis methodology. The samples were collected from Central Karakoram—an unexplored region in Pakistan. Surface sediment samples (0–10 cm) were collected from 9 different locations along the Hunza River in Central Karakorum at an average altitude of 1,561 m covering almost 100 km length along the river. Samples were analysed by the k 0-insturmental neutron activation analysis and the activation constant method for 34 elements (Al, As, Ba, Ca, Ce, Co, Cr, Cs, Dy, Eu, Fe, Ga, Hf, K, La, Mg, Mn, Na, Nd, Rb, Ru, Sb, Sc, Se, Sm, Sr, Ta, Tb, V, Yb, Zn, Zr, Th and U). The analysis methodology was discussed with important sources of nuclear and fission product interferences. The important components of uncertainties identified were the k 0-factor, Q 0-factor, detector efficiency and counting statistics. The methodology was validated by analyzing the IAEA-S-7 (soil) and IAEA-SL-1 (lake sediment) reference materials. The mass fraction data was explored by principal component analysis. Measured elemental mass fractions were compared with the similar data from other locations of the world. It was shown that anthropogenic activities have little influence on the elemental distribution in the sediment.  相似文献

The k 0-based cyclic neutron activation analysis (k 0-CNAA) technique has been studied to explore the applicability at the Portuguese research reactor (RPI). In particular, for the determination of elements which form short-lived radionuclides, particularly fluorine (20F, 11.16 s half-life) and selenium (77mSe, 17.36 s half-life) in polymer, biological and environmental samples. The detection limits obtained for F and Se were about 50 and 0.01 mg kg−1, respectively, in the investigated materials. The timing parameters for the procedure were 10 to 20 s for irradiation, 5 s decay, 10 to 20 s counting, 5 s waiting and performed with eight cycles. The k 0-IAEA program was modified to use millisecond time resolution for irradiation, decay and counting times as needed for interpreting k 0-CNAA data in terms of concentration, accuracy and detection limit. The quality control of the procedure was performed by preparing a standard solution containing fluorine with different contents as well as using the certified reference materials containing selenium from which the bias between the results and the certified values were within 15% for most elements at the investigated content ranges. The analytical results for several other elements producing short-lived or detectable radionuclides, e.g., Al, Ca, Cl, Cu, Dy, I, Mg, Mn, Ti, and V were also obtained by the k 0-CNAA procedure with accuracy within 12%.  相似文献

We have established an instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA) method, including k0-based INAA, at the Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS) for the certification of reference materials. As part of establishing INAA measurements, KRISS infant formula certified reference material was analysed for multiple elements at three different metrological institutes: KRISS and NIST for the standard comparator method, and JSI for the k0-INAA method. The mass fraction of most elements was consistent within expanded uncertainty (k?=?2). In addition, the results were used to verify the validity of elemental analysis of Zn using the standard comparator INAA at KRISS, and spreadsheet-based INAA calculations were evaluated.

In this work k0-INAA (via IAEAk0-software) has been applied on glass samples to determine major, minor and trace element concentration. As many as 50 elements were detected and quantified with 3–5 mg of 0.1 % AuAl comparator monitor (0.1 % gold–99.9 %Alumimum wire). The average concentration of SiO2, Na2O, CaO, Al2O3 and MgO ranged between 76–96 %, 11.15–12.66 %, 5.26–10.71 %, 1.13–2.73 % and 3.51–6.23 % respectively. The relative concentrations of impurity elements; Cr, Fe, Mn and Co determined from the glass samples were used to match the physical appearance (color) of the glass based on general knowledge of colored glass production. The analytical procedure was validated using SRM 610 (glass matrix) and SRM GBW07106 (rock matrix) both as control samples which indicated a relative uncertainty of 15 and 6 % respectively for SRM 610 and SRM GBW07106. The relative sensitivity at which some of the elements were detected in major, minor and trace levels have indicated, that the k0-method in instrumental neutron activation analysis using low power research reactor is a useful technique in glass analysis and could equally be used for forensic and archeological glass characterization.  相似文献

The k 0-IAEA program developed for implementation of the single comparator instrumental neutron activation analysis method (k 0-INAA) has been used for elemental analysis with NIRR-1 irradiation and counting facilities. The existing experimental protocols for routine analysis based on the relative method were used to test the capability and reliability of the program for the analyses of geological and biological samples. The Synthetic Multi-element Standards (SMELS) types I, II and III recommended by the international k 0 user community for the validation of k 0-NAA method in NAA laboratories, furthermore, the following standard reference materials: NIST-1633b (Coal Fly Ash) and IAEA-336 (Lichen) were analyzed. Results obtained with the version 3.12 of the k 0-IAEA program were found to be in good agreement with the data obtained with the established relative method using WINSPAN-2004 software. Detection limits for elemental analysis of geological and biological samples with NIRR-1 facilities are provided.  相似文献

Major and trace element contents in iron ore reference materials were investigated using k 0-instrumental neutron activation analysis (k 0-INAA). To avoid iron interferences, radiochemical separation was developed (k 0-RNAA). The determination of the investigated elements in the inorganic phase from hydrochloric acid solution was performed after radiochemical separation of iron by diisopropyl ether. It was found that after the Fe elimination, the limit of detection for some elements was much lower that enables their direct determination. The distribution of 39 elements (with intermediate/medium and long half-life radionuclides) after Fe removal was investigated.  相似文献

The k 0-standardization method (k 0-NAA) is known as one of the most remarkable progresses of the NAA with its many advantages. For the application of k 0-NAA method at the NAA #1 irradiation position where the neutrons are well thermalized in the HANARO research reactor, KAERI, Korea, the determination of the reactor neutron spectrum parameters such as α and f have been carried out. The measured values of α and f using the “Cd-ratio” triple monitor method were 0.127±0.022 and 1010±70, respectively. To evaluate the applicability of k 0-NAA in our analytical system, the analysis of three kinds of SRMs was executed. The analytical results showed that the relative error of most of the elements was less than 10% and the U-scores were within 2. It is turned out that the procedure of the k 0-NAA in the HANARO research reactor is available for a practical application in the environmental fields.  相似文献

The k 0-standardization method of NAA is known as one of the most remarkable progress of NAA with its many advantages. Recently, our laboratory is highly involved in various areas of application of k 0-NAA. This paper focuses on the application of the k 0-NAA method in Nutritional and Health-Related Environmental field. Tobacco holds a leading position among different commodities of human consumption. The adverse health effects of toxic and trace elements in tobacco smoke on smokers and non-smokers are a special concern. In the present study, the concentration of 24 trace elements in cigarette tobacco of five different brands of Algerian and American cigarettes have been determined by k 0-based INAA method. The results were compared with those obtained for samples from Iranian, Turkish, Brazilian and Mexican cigarettes tobacco. To evaluate the accurate of the results the SRM IAEA-140/TM was executed. The analytical results showed that the relative error of most of the elements was less than 10%.  相似文献

Exploration and modification of data for k 0-PGAA (prompt γ-ray activation analysis) values used as standards for k 0 standardization are needed. An integrated system has been installed and calibrated in Hot Laboratories Center for PGAA, using 252Cf isotopic neutron source with neutron flux of 6.16E8 n/cms. The prompt k 0-factors of about 12 elements were determined versus the 1951.1 keV γ-ray of the 35Cl, as well as analyzing crude oil and oil product samples. The concentrations of the elements in crude oil H, B, Mg, Al, Na, Si, P, S, Cl, V and Cd were 1.18E5, 0.084, 5.48E2, 8.45E2 4.88E2, 1.62E2, 3.72E2, 8.2, 144.3, 393 and 209.2 ppm while in oil product samples were 1.32E5, 5.87, 4.56E2, 4.22E2, 7.16E3, 699, 157, 8.74, 492.3, 61 and 198.2 ppm. Validation of the k 0-PGAA was applied in analyzing standard IAEA reference material (soil-7) which give good agreement with the literature data. The 252Cf neutron beam in radiation position was characterized by the cadmium-ratio method, and found that the cadmium ratio (f), was 160.  相似文献

The k 0 standardization method has been studied and applied at JAERI for the accurate determination of multielements by neutron-induced prompt gamma-ray analysis (PGA). The k 0 factors for 26 elements using Cl as a comparator were measured by the cold and thermal neutron guided beams of JRR-3M with an uncertainty less than 3% except for a few elements. The k 0 factors for most elements obtained with both cold and thermal neutrons agreed within 3%, and agreed also with those measured at other cold and thermal neutron guided beams within 10%, except for a few elements. Multielement determinations in reference materials were performed using the k 0 factors obtained to evaluate the accuracy and precision of this work.  相似文献

A suite of natural matrix reference materials (RMs) were used to assess the quality of analytical results obtained by k 0-instrumental neutron activation analysis (k 0-INAA) at the Joef Stefan Institute (IJS). Five certified reference materials (CRMs) from the Institute for Reference Materials and Measurements (IRMM), two standard reference materials (SRMs) from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), three RMs from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and one RM from IJS were analyzed. Altogether, results for twenty-four elements in inorganic matrices and twenty-nine elements in organic matrices, obtained by k 0-INAA, were compared to certified values. Results obtained show good agreement with certified or assigned values except for Fe, La, Nd, Sm and U in inorganic matrices, and Ag, Al and Cr in organic matrices.  相似文献

Two samples of Napoleon's hair were received for determination of arsenic, mercury and other trace elements by INAA. Before sample irradiation, the hairs were washed following the IAEA washing procedure. Two standard reference materials of GBW09101 (human hair) and NIST/SRM1572 (citrus leaves) were analyzed along with Napoleon's hair for quality control. Standardization was conducted by applying the k 0-method implemented in the program MULTINAA. The contents of arsenic and mercury as well as three additional elements chromium, antimony and zinc in Napoleon's hair are reported. Compared to the present normal levels, all of the determined elements in Napoleon's hair, except the mercury, are found to be irregular.  相似文献

The k 0 method has been introduced at the 30 kW miniaturized neutron source reactor (MNSR) at the Pakistan Institute of Nuclear Science & Technology (PINSTECH). It involved the full energy peak efficiency calibration of the HPGe detector for different counting geometries and the characterization of the neutron flux at four inner irradiation channels. The latter involved the determination of the thermal to the epithermal flux ratio, epithermal flux shape factor, the modified spectral index, Westcott’s g-factor, the Maxwellian neutron temperature and the fast flux. The method was validated by analyzing IAEA-SL1 (Lake Sediment) and NIST-SRM-1572 (Citrus Leaves) reference materials. All calculations were performed in Excel, including the optimization step. The results revealed that most of the elements were estimated with less than 10% relative deviation from the certified value.  相似文献

The use of thek 0-standardization method in instrumental neutron activation analysis gives good accuracy and precision. The analysis time can be reduced drastically by employing software for thek 0-standardization calculations. In this work samples were irradiated in a TRIGA reactor and the gamma spectrum was analysed by Sampo 90 and thek 0-standardization by the KAYZERO/SOLCOI code (DSM Research). The efficiency measurement and the peak to total ratio at the reference and other geometries were measured and tested for their accuracy by analysing some reference materials. Reference materials such as SRM 1572 (Citrus leaves), SRM 1573 (Tomato leaves), SRM 1575 (Pine needles), IAEA Soil-7 (Soil) and SRM 1646 (Estuarine sediment) were analysed for the major, minor and trace element contents. The results were in good agreement with the certified or literature values. The recently released IAEA 140 (Sea plant homogenates) was also analysed for 28 elements.  相似文献
