Single-phase polycrystalline samples and single crystals of the complex boride phases Ti(8)Fe(3)Ru(18)B(8) and Ti(7)Fe(4)Ru(18)B(8) have been synthesized by arc melting the elements. The phases were characterized by powder and single-crystal X-ray diffraction as well as energy-dispersive X-ray analysis. They are new substitutional variants of the Zn(11)Rh(18)B(8) structure type, space group P4/mbm (no. 127). The particularity of their crystal structure lies in the simultaneous presence of dumbbells which form ladders of magnetically active iron atoms along the [001] direction and two additional mixed iron/titanium chains occupying Wyckoff sites 4h and 2b. The ladder substructure is ca. 3.0 ? from the two chains at the 4h, which creates the sequence chain-ladder-chain, establishing a new structural and magnetic motif, the scaffold. The other chain (at 2b) is separated by at least 6.5 ? from this scaffold. According to magnetization measurements, Ti(8)Fe(3)Ru(18)B(8) and Ti(7)Fe(4)Ru(18)B(8) order ferrimagnetically below 210 and 220 K, respectively, with the latter having much higher magnetic moments than the former. However, the magnetic moment observed for Ti(8)Fe(3)Ru(18)B(8) is unexpectedly smaller than the recently reported Ti(9)Fe(2)Ru(18)B(8) ferromagnet. The variation of the magnetic moments observed in these new phases can be adequately understood by assuming a ferrimagnetic ordering involving the three different iron sites. Furthermore, the recorded hysteresis loops indicate a semihard magnetic behavior for the two phases. The highest H(c) value (28.6 kA/m), measured for Ti(7)Fe(4)Ru(18)B(8), lies just at the border of those of hard magnetic materials.  相似文献

Polycrystalline samples and single crystals of the complex boride Ti9Fe2Ru18B8 were synthesized by arc-melting the elements and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and energy-dispersive X-ray analysis. Ti9Fe2Ru18B8 is a new substitutional variant of the Zn11Rh18B8 structure type, space group P4/mbm (No. 127), whose remarkable feature is that it contains one-dimensional chains of dumbbells of magnetically active Fe atoms, which form "ladders" along the c axis. The Fe-Fe distance within a dumbbell is 2.489(2) A, and the Fe2-Fe2 distance between two dumbbells is 2.968(1) A; in contrast, the chains are well-separated from each other by distances of at least 11.217(2) A. According to the results of tight-binding electronic structure calculations, Ru-B and Ti-Ru contacts are responsible for the structural robustness, while Fe-Fe interactions influence the magnetic behavior. According to magnetization measurements, Ti9Fe2Ru18B8 orders ferromagnetically between 10 and approximately 200 K. A model for ferromagnetism in this ladder-based structure identifies ferromagnetic coupling among neighboring spin-triplet Fe2 dimers along the c axis as the origin of the magnetic behavior.  相似文献

[Ru(II)(por)(PH(n)Ph(3-n))2], [Os(II)(por)(CO)(PH(n)Ph(3-n))] (n=1, 2), and [Os(II)(F20-tpp){P(OH)Ph2}(PHPh2)] (F20-tpp=5,10,15,20-tetrakis(pentafluorophenyl)porphyrinato dianion) were prepared from the reaction of [M(II)(por)(CO)] (M=Ru, Os) or [Os(VI)(por)O2] with the respective primary/secondary phosphane and characterized by 1H NMR, 31P NMR, UV/Vis, and IR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, and elemental analysis. The reaction of [Os(VI)(por)O2] with PHPh2 also gave minor amounts of [Os(II)(por){P(OH)Ph2}2]. [Ru(II)(F20-tpp)(PH2Ph)2] exhibits a remarkable stability toward air and shows a reversible metal-centered oxidation couple at E(1/2)=0.39 V versus [Cp2Fe](+/0) in the cyclic voltammogram. The structures of [Ru(II)(F20-tpp)(PH2Ph)2] x 2CH2Cl2, [Ru(II)(4-Cl-tpp)(PHPh2)2] x 2CH2Cl2 (4-Cl-tpp=5,10,15,20-tetrakis(p-chlorophenyl)porphyrinato dianion), [Ru(II)(F20-tpp)(PHPh2)2], and [Os(II)(F20-tpp){P(OH)Ph2}2] were determined by X-ray crystallography and feature Ru-P distances of 2.3397(11)-2.3609(9) A and an Os-P distance of 2.369(2) A.  相似文献

The n = 1 Ruddlesden-Popper (RP) phases LaSrM(0.5)Ru(0.5)O(4±δ) (M = Co, Ni and Zn) have been prepared by solid state reactions and structurally characterized by powder X-ray and electron diffraction. All the samples adopt the tetragonal I4/mmm space group with random M and Ru cation occupation on the B-sites. The potential causes of no cation ordering are discussed. A combined analysis of the tolerance factors, the distortion of the octahedral coordination of M and Ru cations and the magnetic interactions between M and Ru cations provide a better understanding for forming a phase with 3D cation ordering on the B-sites in the n = 1 RP phases. The investigation of XPS spectra suggests that the transition element species exist as mixed ion pairs, Ru((4-δ)+)-Ru(4+)? Co(2+)-Co(3+) in LaSrCo(0.5)Ru(0.5)O(4), and Ru(4+)-Ru((4+δ)+)? Ni(+)-Ni(2+) in LaSrNi(0.5)Ru(0.5)O(4), which is consistent with cation disorder over the B sites. LaSrCo(0.5)Ru(0.5)O(4) shows a weakly ferromagnetic behaviour below 50 K; LaSrNi(0.5)Ru(0.5)O(4) is evidenced by the presence of long-range magnetic ordering at a Néel temperature of 125 K, and LaSrZn(0.5)Ru(0.5)O(4) exhibits a paramagnetic behaviour down to 5 K. Due to atomic disorder, Ru4d, O2p covalent coupling is weakened, strengthening the intraatomic spin-spin coupling among the π* electrons. Charge transfer between Ru and Co or Ru and Ni, as well as the increasing overlap of both nearest-neighbour and next-nearest-neighbour Ru 4d electrons due to atomic disorder, favour the formation of ferromagnetic interactions. Although antiferromagnetism is dominant, particularly in LaSrNi(0.5)Ru(0.5)O(4), ferromagnetic interactions are stronger in the title compounds than in the related La(2)MRuO(6) (M = Co, Ni) double perovskites where the B-site cations are ordered.  相似文献

The chiral clusters [H(4)Ru(4)(CO)(12-n)(L)(n)] (n = 1, 2; L = NMDPP), 1,1-[H(4)Ru(4)(CO)(10)(L-L)] (L-L = DUPHOS, DIPAMP), 1,2-[H(4)Ru(4)(CO)(10)(DIOP)] and [{H(4)Ru(4)(CO)(10)(DIOP)}(2)] have been synthesized by derivatizing the parent carbonyl cluster [H(4)Ru(4)(CO)(12)] with the appropriate mono- or didentate chiral phosphine ligand. The phosphine-substituted clusters were found to be able to catalyze the (asymmetric) hydrogenation of tiglic acid albeit with relatively low selectivity (enantiomeric excesses varying from 0 to 23%). It was found that the stability of the chiral ruthenium hydride clusters and the product distribution obtained in the catalytic reactions are dependent on the nature of the chiral phosphine. The crystal structures of [H(4)Ru(4)(CO)(12-n)(L)(n)] (n = 1, 2; L = NMDPP), 1,1-[H(4)Ru(4)(CO)(10)(L-L)] (L-L = DUPHOS, O-DUPHOS (partially oxygenated ligand), DIPAMP), 1,2-[H(4)Ru(4)(CO)(10)(DIOP)] and [{H(4)Ru(4)(CO)(10)(DIOP)}(2)] are presented.  相似文献

Electron-transfer processes facilitated by hydrophobic-lipophilic interaction ( HLI) between excited N-alkylcar-bazoles (1-n, n=4, 8, 12, 16) as electron donors and 2,4-dintrophenyl carboxylates (2-n, n = 4, 8, 12, 16) or pentafluorophenyl carboxylates (3-n, n = 4, 8, 12, 16) as electron acceptors have been investigated by means of fluorescence spectroscopy in aqueous or aquiorgano binary mixtures. The fluorescence quenching of -n * by 2-n or -n indicates that preassociation precedes the electron transfer. The extent of HLI-driven coaggregation of the acceptor and the donor may be assessed from the B value of the equation I0/I = A B [Q]. The chain-length effect and possibly also a chain-fold-ability effect, as well as the solvent aggregating power (SAgP) effect have been observed. Comparison of the quenching constants (B) for 1-n * /2-n combinations and 1-n * / 3-n combinations shows that the order of increasing R values for the quenching processes is 3-n < 2-n.  相似文献

A high-yield synthesis of mixed-bridging-ligand Ru2 compounds, Ru2(D(3,5-Cl2Ph)F)(4-n)(OAc)nCl [n = 1 (1) and 2 (2)] was developed, where D(3,5-Cl2Ph)F is bis(3,5-dichlorophenyl)formamidinate. The acetate ligands in 1 and 2 can be quantitatively displaced with DMBA-I to yield Ru2(D(3,5-Cl2Ph)F)3(DMBA-I)Cl (3) and Ru2(D(3,5-Cl2Ph)F)2(DMBA-I)2Cl (4), respectively, where DMBA-I is N,N'-dimethyl-4-iodobenzamidinate. When compound 2 was treated with 1 equiv of HDMBA-I, a unique Ru2 compound containing three different types of bidentate bridging ligands, cis-Ru2(D(3,5-Cl2Ph)F)2(DMBA-I)(OAc)Cl (5), was obtained. Subsequent reactions between 3/4 and (trimethylsilyl)acetylene under Sonogashira coupling conditions resulted in Ru2(D(3,5-Cl2Ph)F)(4-n)(DMBA-C[triple bond]CSiMe3)nCl [n = 1 (6) and 2 (8)] in excellent yields, which were converted to the corresponding bis(phenylacetylide) compounds Ru2(D(3,5-Cl2Ph)F)(4-n)(DMBA-C[triple bond]CSiMe3)n(C[triple bond]CPh)2 [n = 1 (7) and 2 (9)]. Structural studies of several compounds provided insights about the change in Ru2 coordination geometry upon the displacement of bridging and axial ligands. Voltammetric studies of these compounds revealed rich redox characteristics in all Ru2 compounds reported and a minimal electronic perturbation upon the peripheral Sonogashira modification.  相似文献

The influence of thermal treatment on the structure of lithium titanium ferrite spinels of general formula Li(0.5+0.5x)Fe(2.5-1.5x)Ti(x)O4 (x=0.16, 0.44, and 0.72) has been studied by X-ray and neutron diffraction and analysed by the Rietveld method. The results allow us to conclude the presence of an ordered phase (space group P4(3)32) at room temperature for the sample with x=0.16; this phase does not appear for the remaining compositions. The magnetic properties evidence a ferrimagnetic ordering in the structures when a random cation distribution (space group Fd3 m) is obtained. An exhaustive study carried out by neutron diffraction measurements on these samples shows a different behaviour when the titanium content is increased, concluding that the lower substituted phase (x=0.16) exhibits a Neel's collinear ferrimagnetic structure, with the higher substituted structures being noncollinear (x=0.44 and 0.72).  相似文献

A systematic method for the incorporation of the {(η(6)-Me(n)C(6)H(6-n))Fe} fragment into the dicarbollide cage was developed based on reactions between [(η(6)-Me(n)C(6)H(6-n))(2)Fe][PF(6)](2) salts (1) and Tl(2)[nido-7,8-C(2)B(9)H(11)]. These reactions proceed with elimination of one arene ligand to generate a complete series of the neutral [1-(η(6)-Me(n)C(6)H(6-n))-closo-1,2,3-FeC(2)B(9)H(11)] (2) complexes with n = 1-6 in yields ranging 15-70% depending on the arene. The structures of mesitylene and pentamethylbenzene complexes were established by X-ray diffraction analyses. All compounds were characterized by (11)B and (1)H NMR measurements, mass spectra, melting points and elemental analyses. Correlations between selected (1)H and (11)B NMR parameters and the Fe(II/III) redox potentials and the number of arene methyls for complexes 2 are linear. These facts establish direct evidence for a strictly additive character of electron donation by the methyl substituents to the arene ring and further to the Fe center and the second (dicarbollide) ligand.Correlations between the number of arene methyls (n) and selected (1)H and (11)B NMR parameters or the Fe(II/III) redox potentials for complexes [1-(η(6)-MenC(6)H(6-n))-closo-1,2,3-FeC(2)B(9)H(11)] are of strictly linear character.  相似文献

This work deals with the type and incidence of nonclassical Si--H and H--H interactions in a family of silylhydride complexes [Fe(Cp)(OC)(SiMe(n)Cl(3-n))H(X)] (X=SiMe(n)Cl(3-n), H, Me, n=0-3) and [Fe(Cp)(Me(3)P)(SiMe(n)Cl(3-n))(2)H] (n=0-3). DFT calculations complemented by atom-in-molecule analysis and calculations of NMR hydrogen-silicon coupling constants revealed a surprising diversity of nonclassical Si--H and H--H interligand interactions. The compounds [Fe(Cp)(L)(SiMe(n)Cl(3-n))(2)H] (L=CO, PMe(3); n=0-3) exhibit an unusual distortion from the ideal piano-stool geometry in that the silyl ligands are strongly shifted toward the hydride and there is a strong trend towards flattening of the {FeSi(2)H} fragment. Such a distortion leads to short Si--H contacts (range 2.030-2.075 A) and large Mayer bond orders. A novel feature of these extended Si--H interactions is that they are rather insensitive towards the substitution at the silicon atom and the orientation of the silyl ligand relatively the Fe--H bond. NMR spectroscopy and bonding features of the related complexes [Fe(Cp)(OC)(SiMe(n)Cl(3-n))H(Me)] (n=0-3) allow for their rationalization as usual eta(2)-Si--H silane sigma-complexes. The series of "dihydride" complexes [Fe(Cp)(OC)(SiMe(n)Cl(3-n))H(2)] (n=0-3) is different from the previous two families in that the type of interligand interactions strongly depends on the substitution on silicon. They can be classified either as usual dihydrogen complexes, for example, [Fe(Cp)(OC)(SiMe(2)Cl)(eta(2)-H(2))], or as compounds with nonclassical H--Si interactions, for example, [Fe(Cp)(OC)(H)(2)(SiMe(3))] (16). These nonclassical interligand interactions are characterized by increased negative J(H,Si) (e.g. -27.5 Hz) and increased J(H,H) (e.g. 67.7 Hz).  相似文献

The synthesis, structure, and physical properties of the series of molecular magnets formulated as [ZII(bpy)3][ClO4][MIICrIII(ox)3] (ZII = Ru, Fe, Co, and Ni; MII = Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, and Zn; ox = oxalate dianion) are presented. All the compounds are isostructural to the [Ru(bpy)3][ClO4][MnCr(ox)3] member whose structure (cubic space group P4(1)32 with a = 15.506(2) A, Z = 4) consists of a three-dimensional bimetallic network formed by alternating MII and CrIII ions connected by oxalate anions. The identical chirality (lambda in the solved crystal) of all the metallic centers determines the 3D chiral structure adopted by these compounds. The anionic 3D sublattice leaves some holes where the chiral [Z(bpy)3]2+ and ClO4- counterions are located. These compounds behave as soft ferromagnets with ordering temperatures up to 6.6 K and coercive fields up to 8 mT.  相似文献

Previously, the synthesis of compounds Ru(2)(D(3,5-Cl(2)Ph)F)(4-n)(O(2)CFc)(n)Cl (n = 1, 3a; 2, 4a), where D(3,5-Cl(2)Ph)F is N,N'-di(3,5-dichlorophenyl)formamidinate, from the carboxylate exchange reactions between Ru(2)(D(3,5-Cl(2)Ph)F)(4-n)(OAc)(n)Cl and ferrocene carboxylic acid was communicated. Reported herein is the preparation of analogous compounds Ru(2)(DmAniF)(4-n)(O(2)CFc)(n)Cl (n = 1, 3b; 2, 4b), where DmAniF is N,N'-di(3-methoxyphenyl)formamidinate, from Ru(2)(DmAniF)(4-n)(OAc)(n)Cl. Compounds 3 and 4 were characterized with various techniques including X-ray structural determinations of 3a and 4a. Voltammetric behaviors of compounds 3 and 4 were investigated, and stepwise one-electron ferrocene oxidations were observed for both compounds 4a and 4b. Spectral analysis of the monocations [4](+) indicated that they are the Robin-Day class II mixed valent [Fc···Fc](+) species. Measurement and fitting of magnetic data (χT) of 4a between 2 and 300 K revealed a typical zero-field splitting of a S = 3/2 center with D = 77 cm(-1), while those of [4a]BF(4) are consistent with the presence of S = 3/2 (Ru(2)) and S = 1/2 (Fc(+)) centers that are weakly coupled (zJ = -0.76 cm(-1)).  相似文献

Diruthenium tetracarboxylates monocations are utilized as building blocks for cubic 3-D network structured molecule-based magnets. [Ru(II/III)(2)(O(2)CMe)(4)](3)[M(III)(CN)(6)] [M = Cr (1a), Fe (2), Co (3)] were prepared in aqueous solution. Powder X-ray diffraction indicates that they have body-centered cubic structures (space group = Imm, a = 13.34, 13.30, and 13.10 A for 1a, 2, and 3, respectively), which was confirmed for 1a by Reitveld analysis of the synchrotron powder data [a = 13.3756(5) A]. [Ru(2)(O(2)CMe)(4)](3)[M(III)(CN)(6)].xMeCN [M = Cr, x = 1.8 (1b); M = Mn, x = 3.3 (4)] were prepared from acetonitrile. The magnetic ordering of 1a (33 K), 1b (34.5 K), 2 (2.1 K), and 4 (9.6 K) was determined from the temperature dependencies of the in-phase (chi') alternating current (AC) susceptibility. The field dependence of the magnetization, M(H), at 2 K for 1a showed an unusual constricted hysteresis loop with a coercive field, H(cr), of 470 Oe while the M(H) data for 1b, 2, and 4 showed a normal hysteresis loop with a coercive field of 1670, 10, and 990 Oe, respectively. The (57)Fe M?ssbauer spectrum of 2 is consistent with the presence of low spin Fe(III) (delta = -0.05 mm/s; DeltaE = 0.33 mm/s) at room temperature, and the onset of 3-D magnetic ordering at lower temperature (<2 K). The effects of M(III) in [M(III)(CN)(6)](3-), and the large zero-field splitting (D) of diruthenium tetracarboxylates are discussed. The increasing critical temperatures T(c), with increasing S could not be accounted for by mean field models without significantly different J values for 1a, 4, and 2. By fitting the T(c) data with mean field models [H = -2JS(Ru).(S(M) - micro(B)(g(Ru)S(Ru) + g(M)S(M))H], J/k(B) are 4.46, 1.90, and 0.70 K for 1a, 4, and 2, respectively.  相似文献

Ru(II) polypyridine species have been assembled about dirhodium(II, II) tetracarboxylate cores. The complexes prepared have general formulas [{(terpy)Ru(La)}n{Rh2(CH3COO)4-n(CH3CN)2}]2n+ (a-type compounds: terpy = 2,2':6',2' '-terpyridine; La = 4'-(p-carboxyphenyl)-2,2':6',2' '-terpyridine; n = 1, 1a; n = 2, cis-2a and trans-2a-cis and trans refer to the arrangement of the Ru(II) species around the dirhodium core; n = 3, 3a), [{(Lb)Ru(La)}n{Rh2(CH3COO)4-n(CH3CN)2}]2n+ (b-type compounds: Lb = 6-phenyl-2,4-di(2-pyridyl)-s-triazine; n = 1, 1b; n = 2, an inseparable mixture of cis-2b and trans-2b; n = 3, 3b; n = 4, 4b), and [{(terpy)Ru(Lc)}{Rh2(CH3COO)3(CH3CN)2}]2+ (1c; Lc = 6-(p-carboxyphenyl)-2,4-di(2-pyridyl)-s-triazine). As model species, also the mononuclear [(terpy)Ru(La)]2+ (5a), [(La)Ru(Lb)]2+ (5b), and [(terpy)Ru(Lc)]2+ (5c) have been prepared. All of the complexes have been characterized by several techniques, including NMR and mass spectra, and the stability of the various species is discussed. The absorption spectra of all of the compounds are dominated by the Ru(II) polypyridine moieties, showing intense ligand-centered (LC) bands in the UV region and intense metal-to-ligand charge-transfer (MLCT) bands in the visible. The compounds exhibit several metal-centered oxidation and ligand-centered reduction processes, which have been assigned to specific subunits. Both absorption and redox data indicate a supramolecular nature of the assembled systems. Efficient energy transfer from the MLCT triplet state of the Ru-based components to the lowest-energy excited state of the dirhodium core takes place for the a-type compounds at 298 K in acetonitrile solution, whereas such a process is inefficient for the b-type and c-type species, which exhibit the typical MLCT emission. At 77 K in butyronitrile matrix, Ru-to-Rh2 energy transfer is partly efficient for both the a-type and the b-type compounds and is inefficient for 1c. The reasons for such behavior are discussed by taking into account arguments concerning the driving force and reorganization energy of the complexes.  相似文献

The absorption spectra, redox behavior, and luminescence properties (both at 77 K in rigid matrices and at room temperature in fluid solution) of a series of [2x2] molecular grids have been investigated. The latter were prepared either by means of sequential self-assembly, or by a stepwise protection/deprotection procedure, and are based on a ditopic hexadentate ligand 1 in which two terpyridine-like binding sites are fused together in a linear arrangement. The molecular grids studied include the homometallic species [[Fe(1)](4)](8+) (Fe(2)Fe(2)), and the heterometallic species [[Ru(1)](2)[Fe(1)](2)](8+) (Ru(2)Fe(2)) and [[Os(1)](2)[Fe(1)](2)](8+) (Os(2)Fe(2)). For comparison purposes, the properties of the mononuclear complexes [Ru(1)(2)](2+) (1-Ru) and [Os(1)(2)](2+) (1-Os) have been studied. All these compounds exhibit very intense absorption bands in the UV region (epsilon in the 10(5)-10(6) M(-1) cm(-1) range, attributed to spin-allowed ligand-centered (LC) transitions), as well as intense metal-to-ligand charge-transfer (MLCT) transitions (epsilon in the 10(4)-10(5) M(-1) cm(-1) range) that extend to the entire visible region. The mononuclear species 1-Ru and 1-Os exhibit relatively intense luminescence, both in acetonitrile at room temperature (tau=59 and 18 ns, respectively) and in butyronitrile rigid matrices at 77 K. In contrast, the tetranuclear molecular grids do not exhibit any luminescence, either at room temperature or at 77 K. This is attributed to fast intercomponent energy transfer from the Ru- or Os-based subunits to the low-lying metal-centered (MC) levels involving the Fe(II) centers, which leads to fast radiationless decay. The redox behavior of the compounds is characterized by several metal-centered oxidation and ligand-centered reduction processes, most of them reversible in nature (as many as twelve for Fe(2)Fe(2)). Detailed assignment of each redox process has been made, and it is apparent that these systems can be viewed as multilevel molecular electronic species capable of reversibly exchanging a number of electrons at accessible and predetermined potentials. Furthermore, it is shown that the electronic interaction between specific subunits depends on their location in the structure and on the oxidation states of the other components.  相似文献

Equilibrium structures of H(4-n)Ti(OH)n (n = 2-4) molecules and the Ti(OH)4 dimer and trimers were optimized at the B3LYP level of theory. Theoretical vibrational frequencies of TiO stretching modes obtained with several basis sets were compared with the existing experimental frequencies of these vibrations, and the 6-31+G(d) set was chosen for cluster calculations. Only one energy minimum was found for the [Ti(OH)4](2) dimer, but two isomers without symmetry elements stabilized by internal hydrogen bonds and two isomers, belonging to C(s) and C(i) point groups, with free OH groups were found as minima at the [Ti(OH)4](3) potential energy surface. The structure with the linear arrangement of hexacoordinated titanium atoms in the Ti3O12 skeleton may be proposed for trimeric species observed in liquid titanium alkoxides as the only structure satisfying experimental spectroscopic evidence about the presence of center of inversion in these species. Frequency changes of TiO4 modes which accompany the oligomer formation are predicted and discussed.  相似文献

R(33)Fe(14-x)Al(x+y)B(25-y)C(34) (R = La or Ce; x ≤ 0.9; y ≤ 0.2) and R(33)Fe(13-x)Al(x)B(18)C(34) (R = Ce or Pr; x < 0.1) were synthesized from reactions of iron with boron, carbon, and aluminum in R-T eutectic fluxes (T = Fe, Co, or Ni). These phases crystallize in the cubic space group Im3m (a = 14.617(1) ?, Z = 2, R(1) = 0.0155 for Ce(33)Fe(13.1)Al(1.1)B(24.8)C(34), and a = 14.246(8) ?, Z = 2, R(1) = 0.0142 for Ce(33)Fe(13)B(18)C(34)). Their structures can be described as body-centered cubic arrays of large Fe(13) or Fe(14) clusters which are capped by borocarbide chains and surrounded by rare earth cations. The magnetic behavior of the cerium-containing analogs is complicated by the possibility of two valence states for cerium and possible presence of magnetic moments on the iron sites. Temperature-dependent magnetic susceptibility measurements and M?ssbauer data show that the boron-centered Fe(14) clusters in Ce(33)Fe(14-x)Al(x+y)B(25-y)C(34) are not magnetic. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy data indicate that the cerium is trivalent at room temperature, but the temperature dependence of the resistivity and the magnetic susceptibility data suggest Ce(3+/4+) valence fluctuation beginning at 120 K. Bond length analysis and XPS studies of Ce(33)Fe(13)B(18)C(34) indicate the cerium in this phase is tetravalent, and the observed magnetic ordering at T(C) = 180 K is due to magnetic moments on the Fe(13) clusters.  相似文献
